I'm searching for a ROM where everything or almost everything is disabled.
I only need the ability to set a Wallpaper of my own, have at least WiFi Access (SIM isnt inserted in the I9000) and install the following Apps (Market can be disabled too):
PowerAMP / Full Version / ICS Skin
any simple Explorer
Simple Last.fm Scrobbler
Voodoo Sound
The complete rest i don't need, nothing of them.
Is there any rom that fits my requirement?
Slim ics

Try Amestris with Semaphore Kernel. It's a GB-Rom with great battery life. Not ICS-themed but similar.

For listern music, I would recommand stock music player + voodoo sound:thumbup:

Music quality is better on JB/ICS than on stock GB. Take a stable nice ICS ROM like CM9 or SlimICS.
Sorry, but the Stock Player is crap! Stay with PowerAmp! And CyanogenMod is anything but not frugal.

i tried for now just the SlimICS/Bean Version and i have with both the Problem that i can't connect to WiFi. I think it is because the Rom use the wrong Bandwith / Channels. Any solutions? (i'm in European - Germany)
I used Amestris till some month ago and before I migrate to JB, it is really slim and perfect
Well, i still didnt got WLAN to work ... so i will try Amestris with Semaphore Kernel ... i don't care which Version it will take to be slim and have low battery drain. For that I have the Galaxy S 3.
Hopefully with this combination WLAN will work and then lets take a look at the Battery Life
Your best bet is to choose a ROM you like and stick the phone in airplane mode. Wifi will still work.
You can also try the Rom and Kernel in my Signatur. That fits all your needs. I listen 6-10h music every day (with PowerAmp and Voodoo Sounds) AND do all the other Stuff like surfing (3g always on), gaming, texting and of course Phone calls and I come without a charge through the day. And you can disable all the Apps you doesn't need.

If you end up on ics/jb, make sure you use deep idle.

Well, i now installed (or tried to) this Kernl / ROM but i don't get VoodoSound to work ...
Steps i did yet:
1. Install "Odin_XWJVZ_MultiCSC_Deodexed_Zipaligned" (2.3.6 - with Odin)
2. Install "Semaphore_kernel_JVZ_2.1.1bm" (with Odin)
3. Install "Amestris_V12_Rev.01_ODEX_WIPE" (with CWM)
The ROM is working and WLAN as well ... just VoodoSound (Market loaded - Free) say that this Kernel isnt supported
Have you tried the Semaphore Kernel 2.7.4 I'd postet above? (this one)

With some ROMs offering nightly builds sometimes these may not work with the newer nightly ROM builds, just depends on what gets changed.
Just head the warnings and be prepared for possible incompatibility.
I will work on having a current zip installable kernel available from the latest Hellybean Builds as DerTeufel1980 releases them
I have also put together some

Please don't ask about " devil kernel manager" || it still doesn't like to work except for a few settings,,, like big mem, etc... ... ... ...
.......... I honestly just copy that section over into -- mctweaker init.d settings -- which carries all the other tweaks i need and use... And it works... see Below
As well as plenty other programs
"Devil Kernel Manager" does work ,,, Some setting, though, do not stick across a reboot
and
I prefer to Use

OK what do you recommend for optimal settings in bb7? I've discovered the music skipping issue came back right after I flashed devil kernel, with some trial and error I settled on interactive and cfq setup, I haven't noticed any garbled music issues since I stick with these settings. I just wish I knew what was causing this because I would like to use other governors and such.

It's just odd because right after I put devil kernel on my album art gets all blurred when using PowerAmp then I get garbled music. But I'll keep experimenting, are you oc'd all the way to 1400?

Re: [Kernels] Flashable & [Tweaks] Jellybean 4.2.x
I'm pretty sure I have it completely figured out I use MediaMonkey on my PC and when I tag the album art sometimes it saved into the folder. When I transfer the specific folder with the music that I want on to my mesmerize that album art jpg comes with. I believe the problem is I use very high resolution album art images on my PC and my sd card is having issues reading that part in power amp. So I deleted all album art images from my PC and reset power amp to download album art and prefer downloaded album art in player. No more skipping issues as of yet!

I don't really thing there is 1 overall optimal setting,,,, every phone and personal setting may and usually does need the setup different.
bbrad has made a good recommendation though
That is the fun of having all the options of the Devil Kernel,,, to try and test,,, ,,,
"I/O schedulers" and "governors" and the "SD read ahead" tweaks all effect how our phones perform,,, ,,, and with production tolerances SD speeds are all over the place no 2 are alike , just like snowflakes,
check to OP I just updated it with some new links in the :: "" Interested in more about :: schedulers and governors"" section

Hi, im not really great at android development/ development in general, so this is a newbie question sorry...
My idea is to make a widget that displays my current prepaid money balance by sending the appropriate USSD code to my carrier and then ripping the money part out of the response. My widget is now working and finished, and i only need to implement this USSD part. After some research i found out that there isnt any official method for this, but a hidden interface called IExtendedNetworkService inside the telephony package and that there someone has implemented it: https://github.com/alaasalman/ussdinterceptor
So far so good. I downloaded the source code for that but i dont find out how to get the response string out of that service! I looked at the code and googled for it but i still have no idea :/ so i thought if maybe here at xda there is anybody that can help me and could explain it to me as easy as possible...
Thanks very very much in advance, i hope someone helps me
Edit:: I just found the blog post on that explains the service. Now so far i hav understood that i just have to activate the listener and then the reply comes as a broadcast:
//listener is active, so broadcast data and suppress it from default behavior
//build data to send with intent for activity, format URI as per RFC 2396
Uri ussdDataUri = new Uri.Builder()
.scheme(getBaseContext().getString(R.string.uri_scheme))
.authority(getBaseContext().getString(R.string.uri_authority))
.path(getBaseContext().getString(R.string.uri_path))
.appendQueryParameter(getBaseContext().getString(R.string.uri_param_name), text.toString())
.build();
sendBroadcast(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT, ussdDataUri));

Click to collapse
Now my only lasting question is, what does that broadcast tell me exactly? How do i get the USSd reply out of there?

I am also trying to get the USSD response into a string or something, can you share your solution? It seems there is no offical support for this from google.
thx
@stunnahonsa
I had a private conversation with karuna.joshi about this and he told me it turned out that this solution doesn't work with newer android versions anymore. I haven't continued my project du to other problems in the meanwhile so i can't tell you for sure whether it works or not.
But i could imagine that if you register a broadcast receiver for that mentioned broadcast above, then in the onReceive method you get the data uri by calling intent.getData(). So now i researched that you will get the appended query item (in this case the ussd response) by calling uri.getEncodedQuery()
Would be cool if you try this and tell me if it worked
Hey guys I would like to develop and app in which there will be tips and tricks etc...Thats is simple...
But what I dont know and want to learn is like I would like to update the tricks on daily or whenever a new trick is available in the app. Not like updating the whole app but just like if the Tricks are in the ListView I want that somehow I can update the content and add a new trick which will add one new list to the activity with the content as the Trick,,,,
Hope I have explained which I need. Rest if still I'm not clear please let me know I will try to explain it in more detailed manner.
Thanks
You could put your trick strings on the internet, for example on a google dev server, i dont know exactly how this service is called, but google gives u a place on one of their servers where u can put data. Then in ur app u can collect this data by connecting to the internet

Any guidance on the same?
Personal help would be preferred as I'm new to Web services.
Thanks

Before you go on and implement them, I'd suggest you reconsider whether it's a good decision. As a user before than a developer, I feel tips&tricks pop-ups/pages feel very 90s, outdated and IMO makes sense only in those cumbersome app where you need to explain your bad designed UI.

Well you can firstly create a collection of some tips etc inside the app without using web services, if u first are not sure about whether to implement this... personal help with this is kinda diffucult as i myself dont really have experience with it it only was explained in my android/java learning book, and that one's in german
