Hello, I've been using CM9 but I find it a bit laggy.
What is the best ICS rom and kernel combination for speed?
Thanks

i still prefer kwiboo's v2 + franco kernel.
i would love the SEUV kernel if USB and Data Limits was working. It was the only missing function.
PS: franco's wifi tethering is broken with the above combination.
After many convinacions I prefer Kwilboo v2 + franco
Cm9 isn't out yet nice joke.

I think the OP is talking about Alpha 11. Anyways, I am sporting Alpha 11 with Franco's kernel and works very well. I haven't seen any lag at all. Make sure you force hw in the developers option.

I hope that the current batch of ICS ROMS do not represent how the real ICS performs, or even comes close for that matter.

Its alpha cm9, but without the cmparts (cm settings) we're used to in CM.. as of now. Soon to change, I'm sure.
. . NS4G . . CM7 . .
I've tried Koush's ROM (now known as CM9 however refuse to call it that since there is nothing CM about it), and Kwiboo's ROM v2 and have to say that Kwiboo's ROM is the most stable and contained most of the features working before any other ICS ROM out there.
Pair Kwiboo's ROM v2 along with franco.kernel and you should have no problems. (I've tried the stock kernal along with the GlaDOS kernal as well.) Also running the franco.kernel with Kwiboo's v2 ROM fixes USB mounting and data usage!

Isn't that was makes CyangenMod, a CyanogenMod? Otherwise it's the same as any other ICS AOSP ROM out there.

just to clarify here a little bit - data usage and data usage limits are 2 separate functions.
data limits works with franco, but data usage has been working stock on v2.
i'm going to flash v3 soon and test out the differences.
IMNO kwiboo has a clear separation between kernel/drivers and AOSP which is probably why signal indicator isn't fixed yet. T__T
some screenies...
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
I've used the following combinations:
Kwiboo v2 + franco kernel
Brainmaster mix v5
CM9 Alpha 11 (Koush's ROM)
I've found CM9 to be the most stable and quite fast. Franco kernel would probably make it a bit faster but seems a bit unnecessary.
So far everything looks like it works in CM9 Alpha 11, whereas certain things don't work in the others (such as the camcorder in Kwiboo, and BM messes some apps up because of the ad-free hosts).

best combination of kernel and rom

Hi Guys,
In every week, updates are coming for both kernel and ROM. So we can maintain this thread for posting your opinions about the perfect combinations of the kernel and ROM at that point of time..It will be very helpful for noobs like me Cool.
please give you opinions abt all the combinations of ROM like-
ICSSGS
CNA
teamhacksung's CM9 ALPHA
CM9
AOKP
and kernels like
devils 14.2
devils 1.0
glitch
semaphore
thunderbolts
Hope this thread will be active and will be healpfull to all
Currently I am using the combination of-
RC4.2+ devil 14.2 kernel.
I didnt face any problems till now other than battery back up..also some feauters like video calling etc is missing.
Is there any better ROM available. I heard that CNA is coming with updates in a regular basis and they have more features. Also android open kang project(AOKP) which is updated yesterday seems to be good. Did any one tried that? please post your suggestions
MyICS 2.2.13
Devil 1.1
very smooth, no lag .......
Slim ICS + Team Hacksung Kernel
AOKP and Semaphore 0.8.1 is the best for me, no lags, fast as lightspeed and stable as a rock.
RC4.2+ devil kernel 1.1
tried aopk+ semaphore
seems good...there are somany good options
nw with build16 + devils1.1
good one..aslo battery back up is awsm.....
hi all
today one new rom came- DARK Knight.
did any one tried that..seems goos
Which kernel is running in that one?
CM9 build 16 with semaphore 0.8.1
tried them all but the others don't come close in speed, battery life and features - e.g. I really need T9-dialer and CM9 has it but AOSP doesn't, neither does Onecosmic etc
Running CM9 build 16 and semaphore 0.8.1, tried a few over the past week and this seems to hit just right
I'm currently also using Teamhacksung B16 - stock kernel, and that seems fine to me. Before that I was on Darky 10.4(.2)+Semaphore kernel - wasn't bad, either.
What are the advantages to Semaphone on THS B16?
now running dark night....gys try this one ..it is awsm
Guys Stick to CNA or ICSSGS .....those are very stable buils nd use either Onecosmics playtypus kernal or DEVIL 1.0 BFS ! ROCK SOLID !
for me Teams ICSGS & semaphore 0.8.1. Also tried devil 15.1 & 14.2 but so far this is best for me.

Currently, im running on F1 Galaxy S II Ver. 8 rom + latest Semaphore 2.5.0scbm kernel with Voodoo Sound Manager Control...the battery life seems so good,no lags.ultra super smooth scrolling because it uses:
1.Thunderbolt Script
2.TouchWiz 4.0 like Samsung Galaxy S2 and etc..
You can check this link for reference:

try it..you won't regret...
I'm now using AOKP Build 23 with Semaphore 0.8.1...no lags...great speed...no issues so far..
Recommend it...

Too soon?

So what's the best ROM? I know I know, "try for yourself" will be the first answer, but I just wanted to see who's the ppls champ

Hi,
Today I tested :
- CM10 Nightly
- MIUI
- Stock with custom kernel
I didn't find any bug in those three version. I wouldn't say one is better then the other, they are just likely different.
- MIUI : As a really beautiful interface, it is a little closer to iOS but far from looking like it. Try to get picture
- CM10 Based on Stock and looks just like the stock version but has extra features + supports themes
- Stock well the original rom but I use a custom kernel to overclock my cpu to 1.8 Ghz
For now I will stay with Stock + Custom Kernel
I hope it answer your questions

I tried build 1 on my galaxy nexus and its not bad but still missing lots of features of the old ics aokp. Im running paranoid right now on both devices and it has loads of features like the ics aokp. Its been very stable so far. I really like the ability to use tablet mode for certain apps.

Best rom for nexus s?

Hi all, there are many roms un development section but i m confused which one to flash...can someone help me? Which one is the fast smooth JB rom? And with which kernal?? Currently using PA2.54 very slow...

There is dozens of this exact thread in the Nexus S forums. A few active and talking right now in this very sub forum. Its all a matter of personal opinion. Do some searches, read some reviews, flash and try and base your decision by your use cause no one uses their phone the same way with the same signals.

You seem new to roms, its probably best for you to start out with this combination:
ROM: Cyanogenmod 10 Nightlies
Kernel: Default CM10 kernel
or
ROM: Rasbeanjelly
Kernel: Trinity kernel
Also heres a popular list of roms and kernels
ROMs: CM10 Nightlies, Slimbean, Blackbean, Rasbeanjelly, Strawberry
Kernels: Marmite, Matrix, Trinity, Air
You can find all of them here.

You need to wipe everything (except sdcard) if you're moving from a different rom (PA)
Just do a nandroid/titanium backup and everything will be fine.

CM10 is your best bet, other ROMs like Rasbeanjelly+Trinity is also good too but it's more likely a gimmick imo.
Definitely start out with CM10. I just recently got into flashing custom ROMs on my Nexus S (was rocking stock for a long time), and CM10 + Marmite kernel (smartassV2, cfq, 200/1000) is my preferred setup.
I've also tried my luck with Slimbean and Strawberry 4.1.2, but both of them always had little annoyances that you simply don't have to worry about with CM10. That being said, the AOSP-based ROMs like Strawberry and Slimbean do run very smoothly. I do plan on trying out AOKP, however, as it has a TON of customization options and appears to be pretty polished overall.
Slim Bean is the best rom for me, but I can customize everything so I have no problem. For most people it's better to use CM10 and the Jelly Bean 4.2 gapps.

Both the ROM and kernel can have an effect on gaming performance. Try testing out another kernel to see if anything improves.
Like I said earlier, I highly recommend Marmite for the Nexus S. It has great performance and battery life.

1. Yes, that's the latest nightly. Should be very stable, as far as I know.
2. DO NOT download that gapps file. The one linked in that article has the old, ugly prototype keyboard and has force closes up the anus. You can search this forum for better packages of the 4.2 Google Apps, but they are all still a little too buggy or incomplete for my tastes.
3. No need to flash a radio. CM will not overwrite your current one.

Plese help me with custom roms, i thinks overcloking on my defy is bad because when i over clock from 800mhz to 1000mhz (on gingerbread 2.3.6) my defy reboot himself. Please help me guys

You can use the ROM of Epsylon or Quarx 4.0.4 or 4.1.2 , they are stable. I have -10% accu per night. Undervolted low speed CPU and off all not needed. Some days no charger, ok for me. I use now 300/20, 600/30, 800/40 and 1000/50. I have GB accidently.
The new 2ndboot 525/526 CM10 of Quarx give you 4 steps. For longer accu go lower with the steps, exept 300MHz!

OK, stupid question: What is "wiui"?
just get CM7.2 stable from the official website. It couldnt get any more stable than that.
You have some options: install a stable CM7.2 or (because none of the CM10 is not stable by now) you can try a mix between a last CM10 of your choice and the 18.11 Quarx kernel.
