I just recently got my Note 10.1 (2014) WiFi a few days ago, but have been doing quite a bit of research. One thing I really wanted was my tablet to be... well, mobile. I could always use it at home through WiFi, but off the WiFi connection it serves very little purpose if any at all besides playing offline games, and playing offline content.
So, I did some research and found that its actually pretty easy to have Bluetooth Tether automatically enable itself and connect when you have your phone and tablet near each other.
Items needed: Android Phone, and Android Tablet
1. Download Bluetooth Auto Connect on your tablet.
2. Download Bluetooth Auto Tethering on your phone.
3. Download Tasker on your phone / Llama on the tablet. I used Tasker on my phone and found it slightly difficult to get this to work on the tablets end, so I used both Tasker and Llama to get this to work, your preference however.
4. In Tasker (which I have enabled on my phone):
Add New Task > Add Action from Plugin > Click Bluetooth Auto > If Bluetooth ~ On > Click pencil icon next to configuration > Make sure Enable Blueooth Tether is active > Save.
Once you complete this click the upper left corner "back" button twice and you should see your new "Tether" task listed on your phone.
5. In Llama (On the tablet):
Events > Click plus sign on bottom right of screen > Add Condition > Wifi Network Disconnected (any wifi network) > Add Action > Locale Plugin > Bluetooth Auto Connect > Make sure you set it to your device, in my case its the Moto X > Save.
Once you complete this, click back on your tablet and you should see the new event listed.
6. Profit
-------------------------------------------------------------
To test, disable and enable bluetooth on your phone, go into settings and check to see if tethering was activated automatically. On the tablet, enable WiFi (given you can connect to a network). Once connected to the network, disable WiFi on the tablet. It takes about 5-10 seconds to kick in, but you should connect to your phones bluetooth internet connection automatically. I ensured my phone was connected to data and not the wifi when I tested, but any connection (wifi or data) will work through tether.
Now, it might be just as easy to do this all in Llama, but its working for me using both apps. I will try to get pictures and format this better later on, but I figured I would share. Let me know if you have issues!
Thank you, this was very useful!
Will deffo give this a go - Thanks
I think there is something I am doing wrong. I followed the steps and couldn't get this to work.

If I understand well...
The easiest way: install on both device the Tablet Talk app and voilá! 1 minute and it works!
EasyTether is my app of choice
Gets installed on your phone, pc and tablet. Supports usb connected or bluetooth. Very handy.
Does this still require you to have a bluetooth tethering plan on your phone?
Kit Kat (4.4.2)
It was mentioned that this was used on the Galaxy Tablet 10.1 (2014). I am wondering since the new update to KitKat 4.4.2 has gone through does this still work? I ask because I was running this method with a mix of FoxFI and PDANET - Tablet, and it worked fine until the update, now its not working. So wanted to see if this method was.
Thank You,

I just set my tablet's TTL to 65 and use wifi tethering.
Anyone know if tethering still work with these? I just bought 2 wifi models for $299 (refurbs) on ebay. We want to possibly deploy them for the business. Everyone has Droid Maxx's with unlimited data and it would be nice to tether them together. The tablets are shipped with Android 4.3 and Im afraid to upgrade to 4.4 kitkiat (I know it automatically will). Are there any kitkat tablet tethers for non rooted phones?
If not, is it possible to root the Note 10.1 and permanently stop the OTA update?
thanks ill try it soon on kitkat

I followed all the steps but I cant complete the tasker part. Whenever I go in to it and try to add a new task, it prompts me to tell it what task I want to add. I dont get the option to add plug in. Am I doing something wrong?
how can i get these apps? Bluetooth Auto Tethering? Cant acess it from austria - unavailable in your country
Is there an apk available or so?
Needed solution for my Phone to tether bluetooth with inet. The solution I have is with Automate (like Tasker but free) See picture.

yea so recently my nexus wont keep the option to keep wifi on during sleep checked, everytime i pickup the nexus its gone back to "never" keep connected.
also, in the wifi advanced settings theres an options called "direct-wifi" it bring up peer devices,,,, is this a file sharing feature?
edit: ok "facepalm" a reboot seems to have solved the wifi-on prob., but still wondering what wifi-direct is
edit 2: found it Wi-Fi Direct
Android now supports Wi-Fi Direct for peer-to-peer (P2P) connections between Android-powered devices and other device types without a hotspot or Internet connection. The Android framework provides a set of Wi-Fi P2P APIs that allow you to discover and connect to other devices when each device supports Wi-Fi Direct, then communicate over a speedy connection across distances much longer than a Bluetooth connection.
NEW REPLY,
ok now its gone back to resetting to switch wifi off with screen off,
with this option constantly re-enabling itself will i be able to receive notifications while screen off?
FOUND ANSWER.
problem was a app called wifi-unlocker that i had given admin right to, it was for some reason shutting off my wifi with the screen off.....dont know why but uninstalled checked the box rebooted and now no issue
All,
I'm having a problem with a mod that allows Bluetooth tethering that I found in the development section. I'm hoping someone here might have some ideas on how to fix it.
First... the problem. I took the framework-res.apk from Nottach's P-ROM because it opens up the "Bluetooth tethering" option in the Hotspots and tethering menu. The process seemed to work (backed up my original framework-res.apk and replaced it with the new one in Nottach's P-ROM), and I have the option to enable Bluetooth tethering now. Unfortunately, none of my devices are actually able to use the Bluetooth connection for tethered access. I have a Note 2 that has Bluetooth tethering enabled, and it works like a champ.
A couple things I've noticed (not sure if it will help identify the problem):
- When connected to my laptop (Windows 8), I can usually right click on my Note 2 in the devices panel and select "Connect with" ... "Access Point". There's no such option when connected with the S4. It just says "Connect with"... "Direct connection", but that doesn't allow internet access.
- When I go into the "Tethering and portable hotspot" menu on my S4 (where the Bluetooth Tethering option is located), I noticed that the "Bluetooth tethering" option is not "checked" for a split second after the screen opens up (even after I've turned it on and then backed out of the screen). A check will appear after a split second, but it's visibly not there when I open the screen. On my Note 2, the check is always there after I turn the option on.
Anyone have any ideas of what I may be missing? I'm not a developer, but I'm not afraid to tinker a bit if anyone has thoughts on the subject.
Thanks in advance.
I don't know if you're still following Nottach's thread, but FYI... I've posted a $10.00 bounty over there for an installable, ready-to-run apk that will enable bluetooth tethering. If I get any takers, I'll let you know.

Hate to Necro and old thread but literally... Try renaming your phone's Bluetooth name to ALL caps only... It jumps after reconnecting to connecting as access point. Don't believe me try it out and go egg later

My S4 doesn't have the Bluetooth Tethering checkbox. Where would I look for your suggestion?
On my wife's and my own Galaxy s4 running FreeGS4 v2.0 ROM - the hotspot works via menu, I have a toggle widget for it that works too. I can connect up with multiple devices to either phone...
But neither phone will allow more than 2 devices to connect at any one time.
I went into the LAN settings to confirm settings are correct - and they are, DHCP is active and allow up to 100 connects - this was default, i tried lower and lower numbers, all the way down to 8, but neither phone will allow more than 2 connections at the same time.
I tried to toggled airplane mode on and off, I've tried rebooting. I've tried manually entering the settings.
I'm starting to worry that it is a flaw in the ROM itself, but a friend of mine who also has the same phone and ROM as I do claims he can connect more than 2. So I'm not sure but I am at hair pulling out stage at this point.
Anyone have any ideas?
edit - search works! I found the solution, and I feel 3% more stupid for somehow missing it earlier

go to settings - hotspot - "press on configure->show advanced options->maximum connections" Thanks
Click on configure hotspot and page down in the pop up menu that appears. Click the box that says show advanced options and then set the maximum connections you want to allow. You can also set 2.4ghz or 5.0ghz in this menu.
First Draft Here, will probably come back to edit this as I get the time. But I want to acknowledge the maker of Cloudnotify and the effort to get the old school Android-based Gear connected to the iPhone. I was able to use those tools to make this happen.
This is one way I used to get my iPhone 6 Plus Notifications on my Omate Truesmart and InWatch Z. It’s not the only method, and certainly not the easiest, but it doesn’t require a third device or changing your number. It also lets you get those notifications basically anywhere.
Basically, the biggest obstacle is (apart from the jailbreak) iOS’s block on SMS messages from any outside app. You could use your carrier’s tablet SMS app (ATT/Verizon messages, etc) on your watch, but scaling is terrible and it breaks easily with updates. You could port your number to Google Voice, but even if it doesn’t cost you an ETF, you still compromise group MMS ability. The final workaround, and easiest, is to use the ever-awesome Swapplink on an Android tablet using one of the aforementioned carrier SMS apps to get your SMS notifications. Personally, I love my Surface Pro 3 too much to get an Android tablet, and would rather keep the number of devices involved to a minimum. So, we have to break into the iPhone’s SMS notifications with the jailbreak app CloudNotifier.
What you’ll absolutely need
Any jailbroken iOS Device with Cydia.
-I set this up on my iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8, but you just need CloudNotifier ability
Receiving device (Omate Truesmart, Inwatch Z, Gear S, Neptune Pine, etc.)
CloudNotifier (costs $3.99 in Cydia)
A Pushingbox.com Account
Notification method that suits your watch
-I use pushbullet on pushingbox, but you could use Newtrify, or anything really with IFTTT. This is why you could use a Gear S, as you could IFTTT them to any phone number.
Extras
Tasker
-This is how I set up tethering on my watch. There are several profiles, but you can do your own. I’ll get into more detail later, but basically, if I’m not connected to my home Wifi on my Omate, I tether to my iPhone. If the iPhone isn’t in range, it turns on mobile data.
Wifi Better Battery
-To better manage your watch's Wifi State
iPhone with Tethering ability
-If your iPhone permits (or has been jailbroken to permit) tethering, you can use Bluetooth to tether your watch. Works well, but is less stable than Wifi (and doesn’t let your Phone use Wifi) thus Tasker.
STEP ONE- iPhone Prep
First, let’s set up Pushingbox and your iPhone. We’re going to go ahead and do this now as it will take some time for your API keys to register. In my case, I had to wait overnight, but a little googling suggests it takes 3 hours. The sooner you do this, the better.
1. Go to Pushingbox.com and create an account.
2. Add a Service that works for you. In my case, it was Pushbullet. There are instructions within the service you choose to configure your API, etc.
3. Once you have a Service ready, create a Scenario on Pushingbox. Call it whatever you want. We’re going to use this new Device ID in your iPhone.
4. For the Title put $application$
5. For the Message put $texte$
6. Note the Device ID for the Scenario, add your previously configured service, and save.
7. Go to Cydia and install Cloudnotifier. It will say iOS 6/7 only, but 8 works too.
8. Once installed, go to settings on your iPhone and find Cloudnotifier.
9. In “Account” put the following- http://api.pushingbox.com/pushingbox?dev=xxxxxxxxxxxx for the xxxxxxxxxx put your Scenario’s Device ID.
10. Now your notifications are freed! Every notification with a Banner will now be sent to the service you configured. This will likely take a few hours, but if you put the ID in properly, it will work.
STEP TWO- Watch Prep
Now we need to receive ALL notifications on your device. If you used Pushbullet, simply grab the APK from evozi (it probably won’t let you download from the store but it works fine). I recommend Pushbullet but any other client is fine to for your platform. If you have a Gear S or any GSM device that isn’t Android, you can configure an IFTTT channel to push them to SMS (Beware your carrier’s SMS rates!) or Email.
Since this is basically every notification from your phone unless you remove the banner on the phone, I suggest disabling notifications for apps on your client device, as the duplicates will get old fast. As long as your Phone is on you’ll get these notifications via your preffered push.
EXTRAS
Now you’ve got the functionality! From here, you’ll start getting the notifications soon. Here are some final recommended steps if you have an Android 4.4 watch. Jellybean seems to be a Bluetooth tethering disaster, but it may work on your hardware.
You can tether to your iPhone via Bluetooth, but use Wifi as often as possible if you want to use Wifi on your phone too. Leave your portable hotspot on in your iPhone for Bluetooth access automatically. Use Wifi Better Battery and Tasker to set up your connection to the phone. Wifi Better Battery will do all the Wifi connecting for you. My Tasker Profiles are configured like this-
Wifi on? (Wifi connected)
-Disable Bluetooth
-Disable Mobile Data (use the secure settings tasker plugin)
-Turn off “Phone Not Near?” Profile
-Turn on “Wifi Off?” Profile
-Turn off “Phone Near” Profile
Wifi off? (Wifi Not connected)
-Turn Bluetooth ON
-Turn Mobile Data On
-Bluetooth Connect to iPhone
-Turn off “Wifi off?” Profile
BT Status (Is Bluetooth on)
-Wait 30 seconds (to let tether operation finish)
-Turn on “Phone Near?” Profile
-Wait 30 seconds (To let the Phone near check finish before the Phone Not Near)
-Turn on “Phone Not Near?” Profile
Phone Not Near? (Is the watch NOT connected to the iPhone via Bluetooth PAN?)
-Turn Mobile Data On
-Turn off “Phone Near?” Profile
-Set Bluetooth Off
Phone Near? (Is the watch connected to the iPhone via Bluetooth PAN?)
-Disable Mobile Data
-Turn off “Phone Not Near” Profile
-Wait 15 seconds
-Turn on “Bluetooth Disconnect” Profile
BT Disconnect (Has Bluetooth disconnected from the iPhone?)
-Turn “Wifi off?” Profile on
-Turn “BT Disconnect” off
I know this is not exactly Android head unit topic but it's closely related to using the device.
So here's what's going on. When I manually turn on wifi tethering (Hotspot) on my phone (NOA H10, 7.1.1 nougat), device (head unit) connects to it as it should, and everything works.
On the otherhand when I use tasker, or any other app to trigger wifi tethering on Bluetooth connection, the hotspot turns on but device can't connect to it. I get obtaining IP address issue, and when I set to static IP it connects for a few seconds and then drops the connection. It's really frustrating because I know it can work.
I know l can always turn the hotspot on manually when I get into the car but I want it to be automatically turned on when Bluetooth connects to my unit.
Anyone else has/had this kind of issues? Any ideas/solutions?
AFAIK most of these units don't support bluetooth tethering at all. Not really sure if any do at all.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm not talking about bluetooth tethering.
Ok I get it, trigger wifi on bluetooth connection with the triggering attempted on the phone side.
I have 0 experience with android phones but I know my iphone will never allow a connection (to anything) unless you open the hotspot setting manually. When I do that my units all automatically connect.

I use Macrodroid app to activate the hotspot when muy phone is conected by bluetooth, and all runs ok
I tried macrodroid. Same thing as the other apps. It turns on hotspot but can't connect to it.
So here's the SITREP, when I use connected to a bluetooth device trigger without specifying a device, the hotspot works. Only if variable, device name and/or mac address is specified the device will not connect to hotspot.
Install and use this plugin
Doesn't work. But I managed to get it work with secure settings and touch task plugins.

I'm using secure settings and touch task Tasker plugins to simulate manual hotspot toggle. When my phone connects to my headunit it triggers screen on then screen unlock to unlock the phone, then quick settings (drop down) menu and finally touch on hotspot tethering icon. Same command is executed on Bluetooth disconnected status.
