I installed some kind of camera when rooting. - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm not sure about this question. Sorry if I offend anyone for posting it on xda. When I updated to mje then went to root with (u know who) it told me to install some type of camera. Did anyone else do this?

Yes that's used to root the phone. You need to flash chainfires most current supersu in safestrap recovery to get rid of the files that your root method used.

Here's the current supersu. Flash it in recovery.

You can root 3.2.1 if you modify the update and root it before you install it.
obvious you can PRE ROOT A ROM .. Then flash it to your device.. But everyone very well knows that this is not what the OP WAS ASKING.. it was just not worded exactly correctly. The thread you are posting is a pre rooted rom needed to be flashed with special scrips..
THAT IS NOT ROOTING A TABLET WITH 3.2.1 . That is flashing a rooted rom.. totally different thing .

Well, not entirely. If we wanna be really pedantic about it, one can also first root, then make a backup of the SUID binaries and remove write permissions from them, install 3.2.1 stock ROM, then use the backup binaries to re-root

That requires you to flash a ROM though. Pretty sure the OP is wanting to root an already installed ROM, probably stock. AFAIK, you can't do that at the moment.

I want to stock root my att lg g2. How?

As the title says, can someone kindly point me to the thread for rooting this phone (att) and keeping stock.
Thanks

i did a quick search and didnt dig too much. My apologies and thank you.
in the root thread, I didnt read any mention of adding recovery. Does it do that? Or is that a separate install?

TWRP's page has information. Admittedly, I did dig around for a day before I got my G2 to put stuff together to root it, so, there's no one-stop-shop for it all.
Just follow the instructions. After you root, you use the command on the page. Get the latest .img file, do not attempt to get the latest file, which is a zip, and unzip it or something. And of course, get the recovery for your phone.
And type carefully.

my phone keeps telling me that there is an update from att for the phone of 55mb or so. I've tried to download it several times, but it times out apparently after 10% or so.
Do I do that update BEFORE I root? Or can I do it after? I am currently on JB 4.2.2 build JDQ39B
EDIT - I found my answer in another thread. OTA after root = problems. I will retry the update and then root. Is there a way way push the update from the pc somehow?

[Q] Some Noob questions

Ok, sorry to post such rudimentary questions, but here goes.
My phone is a Chinese LTE, the SM-N9008V. It has been updated to 4.3 There is little to no information available about it that I can find so I find myself asking these questions here.
I have flashed with Chainfire's CF-AutoRoot with success albeit KNOX 1X0. SuperSU is installed as well as Flashify. That's about as far as I got.
I don't care about knox really so all's good in the hood where that's concerned.
I want a custom recovery, and I know CWM from my Note 2 but I am having trouble figuring out which one to use. In one of the threads about CWM it says not to use CWM if you root with Chainfire's method. I don't know if it means don't use it period or don't flash CWM through AutoRoot (not sure if that's even possible.)
So, my question is can I use CWM, and if I can, would someone be so kind as to point out to my stoopid nooB a$$ which one I should be using?
Also, would you recommend unrooting, installing KK and then re-rooting and THEN doing the CWM+custom rom thing?
Help. Thanks.
Kudo's to Chainfire for making a such an easy to use (even for a nooB) process to root with.
This thread should hopefully help
I had trouble installing due to the bootloader, then found out there was a specific version needed to work with that bootloader. This thread should point you in the right direction.

There is a few threads in General where people have done it successfully . I don't know if I would be willing to try it , but it has been reported to have worked for at least 2 people so far.

People have done it successfully, but the OTA only installs if your system files weren't modified at all. I couldn't the OTA to install - probably due to changes I made in Xposed. I'm going down the leak KK route for now.

OTA failed for me as well. I have removed or frozen just about anything Verizon. Waiting for the MD5 firmware from Sammobile to download so I can try to Odin the file
SuperSu survival mode
Well, I took the leap.. downloaded the md5 file from sammobile and flashed via Odin.
Alas this is not the way to keep root. I no longer have root. And now have all the bloat from Verizon back on the phone.
So much for trying to be a pioneer.
Now where did I put that hammer.....

Yea me too. I should have used Odin to reinstall 4.3 to stock Then root, then take OTA as my ota wouldn't take.

Does anyone have any tips or what to look for if the update keeps failing?
I had Xposed Framework installed...and I think that's the only thing that I had installed that modifies system files...but I uninstalled it's modifications from within the framework app itself, then unistalled the framework apk, then all of the module apk's, then I disabled SU, but the update still won't take...
Anyone have any ideas without losing all my stuff?
Thanks!

I guess I'm just a little nervous since I've never used Odin before...
But if I follow this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2543386
...I should be OK right?
I just want to return to latest JellyBean (MJE) stock, root (with Kingo), and then update to NC4 with root intact.

Just be cautious. It doesn't always work to to update to NC4 w/ root intact. I did it just to see if it was possible and then posted to let everyone know. Kinda wish I hadn't mentioned anything about it.

I just wanted to report back and say everything went great and I am now on NC4 with root! Yay!
Just for the record, in SuperSU I had set SuperSU to DISABLED, then set the Survival Mode to ON, then set default action to DENY. Not sure if that matters, but that's what I had and it worked.
Thanks for the tips everyone!

To clarify, how did you finally get the OTA to take in the first place? I did the same as you - uninstalled Xposed modules and framework, reverted framework-res, disabled SU, unfroze any applications, but OTA failed.
EDIT: Or did you Odin back, then disable SU, then OTA? Just confirming before I do it
Thanks!
If you really want to keep root I would not flash NC4 at all, you're risking the possibility of never getting it back. No one has found any major changes from NC2 to NC4 so you really won't be gaining much but could lose a lot.

Yeah, I hear ya. I generally like to just stay stock+root, though, so staying with the official OTA is generally my preferred route. Might just wait and see what comes out in the next few days.

[Q] The noob question.. How to root and install custom recovery?

Before you say that.. Yes I searched both in this and in other forums the answers to my questions and yes, I know what I am doing. I've owned an Oppo Find 5, a Nexus 7 and an HTC One M7. All rooted and with custom recovery (via adb on Mac).
Anyway, I can't get how to approach this SGS4. I know there are some problems related to knox, to my current firmware etc. Can somebody help me out giving me a step by step guide on how to install a custom recovery?
My firmware is KOT49H.I9505XXUGNE8
Thanks in advance.
Use towelroot to root your phone without tripping knox.
After using towelroot and getting your phone rooted, use flashify to flash a recovery. (This will trip knox)

Ohh and i forgot.
After you use towelroot, you must install supersu from the playstore. This will help you disable knox and its related apps

Haha..yeah..flash the latest stock firmware for your phone and youre unrooted
Plus supersu has an inbuilt unrooting facility.

You don't need root if you only want a custom recovery. Just flash it true Odin.

Actually, I just flashed TWRP and AntaresOne's CM12 Build. It worked like a charm. I guess that now I'll have to worry if/whenever I'd choose to revert it back to stock or to drop it to an assistance center.
