Hello to all,
I recently received a Nexus S....I must say its a wonderfull phone...the screen is amazing and the touch in the hand isnt so bad...however is as some flaws that I cant live with it, specially I have been dealing with some lack of reception of network.....If I cant make phone calls why I want this phone???
Comparing the reception of the Nexus S to the Nexus 1, in my experience the N1 its way better....even the sound quality on the other end (phone call) the receiver say its more clear..(probably due to the microphone at the back of the N1)
I am almost leaving the NS except for one thing...
Gingerbread...simply love it....for me, much more fluid that the froyo...
I am thinking of leaving the NS and turn to the N1 only if I can installa decent room....
So my question and I really need your help its for these:
I can root my phone and install a custom room with Gingerbread,
Would you please help me advising which room is the best and functionall as a daily basis use?
Thanks in advance...
MicroMod777's Gingerbread AOSP ROM is pretty damn nice on the N1, seemed quicker than Froyo to me.
MIUI...
smooth like butta
I'm using CM7 beta which is gingerbread. Has lots of sweet mods users of CM roms are used to like the drop down menu toggles and lots of tweaks.
Beats spending $500+. I even went to best buy and played with it. Set up my desktop and background the same... eh. Screen is a Tad brighter but eh. I'm happy that my year old phone is just as good as new phones today.

+1 for MicroMod777's Gingerbread v20!
Another +1 to micromods gb rom. Smooth, no bugs that I have noticed and great battery life. It remains as close to stock as possible so if you want more then you can try cm7.
i am loving fitsungly's nightly of the cyanogenmod alphas
he pulls from aosp and cyanogen's gerrit, all of the latest approved check-ins on twitter on @cmsrc

And there is the problem with the Nexus S. It's not a "new phone today", it's a phone from March '10 with Gingerbread slapped on it.
Sure it's a good phone, but it's nothing special.
The second Nexus phone should have been in the Atrix class really, pushing the boundaries again.

very true... I am just amazed that just weeks after launch of Nexus S, Samsung demos the SuperAMOLED plus and also gives hints about upcoming Galaxy S2 series of phones. Was google in the dark about this or just dumb!?
The only advantage for Nexus S is Google's promise of regular updates. However, considering how good the developing community for android is, we don't really have to rely on Google for updates. In fact, everyone seems to use stock Google ROM only the first week after its launch... then we just go back to custom builds.
Hello
Thanks for the advices
I rooted my N1 (frg83d) with super one click and installed the micromod rom gingerbread thelatest version v20
I have to tell you its practically the same experience as the nexus s, the only thing I miss are some ringtones....
Thanks for everybody help

So how many people we really still have using and working on the vibrant? I'm feeling kinda lonely with my love for this phone =P seems like the vibrant is getting left in the dust allot quick then my G1, which is sad =/
Also side note, anyone else feel like with a SGS there really isn't anything good enough to upgrade to yet? Only phone I'd even consider is the original SGS2 or the sprint SGS2. And those are iffy due to crappy audio. Vibrant is the best phone I own period. Beats my nexus S in everything =P even beats out my HP touchpad easily IMO. Thoughts?

I feel you man, I'm getting bored of this phone. I will probably upgrade to the muiu phone. Since, it's battery lastes so long.

I just got the Vibrant about 2 months ago, as my wife's Motorola crapped out on her and our carrier swapped it out for the Vib. She wanted to swap with me, so I did and I have to say that once I upgraded it to a custom ROM, I actually like it a lot. It works well for me and what I want.
I think that most of the Jump-ship is because of boredom and not performance. I feel that and understand it. I have been there myself, but I like this phone and it is really easy to handle, breakdown (mean ADB by this) and there have been some really great customizations out on it.
Plus between the 16gb internal and my 32gb external, that is some serious storage for a phone. My old computer from a few years ago only had 30gb hard drive in it.
I am here and plan on staying for awhile.
I'm still here, kinda. My G2x is my main driver, but i still got my Vibrant and still build kernels when i have time. You're not alone

But this phones death is due from no updates.from tmobile. it just makes it way harder to develop for....
Go to the galaxy s2 forums ;-) .
You will find most of the great devs from many of the different forums there.
It seems as though Samsung shipped out yet another phone with outdated filmware lol....imagine that,
They are promising to send ics thru kies lmao ....I believe we have been thru this BS before
There are 3 vibrants in my home. My wife upgraded to the sensation and after a week gave it to my son and took her vibrant out of the drawer. I personally love this phone. Thanks to all the devs who still work on it. I have stockpiled my fave roms and kernels....just in case the remaining devs leave

I just got my Vibrant 2 mth ago from my fren who sold to me. Im not chasing the technology so i tink this phone is great for me. I like it a lot n planning to stay with it for a while longer cos i dont have the 2yrs contract matter. Btw cos im frm Singapore and we dont have Vibrant here so that makes my phone unique than the original SGS..lol. But i really dissapointed on Samsung on the firmware case and yeah this phone if rooted fly high. So i have to say i love my vibrant. Also thanks to all the devs here, appreciated what u guys have done for us n for staying with us making us great customs roms/kernels.

ICS for Vibrant? Looking foward to this.lol
this is a great phone and when rooted does everything i've ever wanted a phone to do. although the experience with ICS will more than likely be better I'm still content with what we have so far. there are no hardcore 3d games that have pushed the hardware to the limit so I don't see any real hardware upgrade necessary. I stopped buying games on my vibrant any way cause I wasn't finishing the ones I had bought before and realized I was wasting my money. So i'm simply using it for media apps, social apps etc. These don't really need a dual core processor with 1gig of ram. The only thing I could want is an identical ICS theme and I'd be set at least for another year on this phone even if we don't ever get ICS.
Yeah, I could maybe see myself moving over to the Nexus S simply because it's got a bigger dev community and the T-Mobile version can be found for pretty cheap, but otherwise I just can't justify moving on from the Vibrant. If I don't go for the Nexus S I'll probably ride out with this until more ICS phones come out.
Hey ECOTOX, I've been quietly learning some stuff about Android and whatnot, I wouldn't consider myself a dev, not even close to one, but I'm learning and I catch on quickly, if you need any help, or have any tips, I'm here. I love this phone, and I won't be moving on to any other phone anytime soon.

I feel the same. I just don't see a lot of end user support with the Samsung products such as the Vibrant, and many other iterations. Updates seems to either take forever or it'll may never see the light of day. As for developer community? I can't really complain about their support for this device, since they are bringing out the goodies out of their own time with no expectations of donations, etc. And I'm grateful that they are cooking up roms, etc. In the future? I will be purchasing a Google branded phone: prompt updates, and great end user support. I just can't live with a dead end product, just feels like I got cheated out.
Well I just went to T-Mobile store and played with the sgs2 and I must say I'm completely impressed.
With a quadrant score of 2748 stock I'm blown away.
With my shattered screen and assurion's choice of replacement I'm sticking with my broken vibrant with miui ...I'm hoping sgs2 gets miui soon ...but I'm getting antsy and just might go out next week and buy the sgs2 outright

After you've used the SGSII for a bit could you post a review comparing it with the DHD; what's better, what's worse, etc?

Me too mate. With G1 getting the ICS I have high hopes that it will be great on DHD. So i'll able to squeeze out another 6 months from the device.
And maybe next year lay my hands on a quad core
Good luck to the OP. He's got a hell of a device.
I've only recently joined, progressed from a year with a Desire. That too an awesome phone.
My wife also has DHD after a iphone 3gs (cough) and immediately I have rooted both, s-off eng and both using custom ROM's with the easy guides and excellent feedback/support found on here. It nice to see equally friendly people on here as well as the Desire forum.
There is still loads of life in this phone for me and the quality of the handset is also superb!
Not only a goodbye to people leaving but a massive thanks to the devs for staying and dedicating time and effort into making superb releases. Donations are on the way shortly.

nope, unfortunately it doesn't because you can say that SGII is theoratically 15% faster than DHD (DHD with custom rom and OC to 1.3ghz ish).

A valid factor ...but only if you're looking to upgrade solely for the increased CPU clock speed/performance etc.
But me guesses an individual will be looking at multiple key factors to deem whether the phone upgrade was indeed worth it... ^_~
A few things coming to mind would be:
Aesthetics (External hardware/OSInterface etc)
Ease of use (External Hardware/Interface)
Features/Compatibility with their existing stuff, ie work, music, vids, pics, games to name a few...
Battery Life
Durability
...all I could think of at present, but I'm pretty sure there are more points to consider.
Either way, opinions on this will be pretty much subjective...
ie, my personal preference would be to steer clear of Samsung's dreaded touchwiz UI, despite how technically superior the overall spec of the SGS2 Compared to DHD... and SGS2's somewhat 'plasticky build' might not last very long with me after my little boy pinches it to watch his kids tv without me knowing about it...
but that's just me... might be completely different for someone else... like the OP thats just decided to upgrade... ~_^
I have the dhd and I got the wife an SGII
For me the SGII is the better phone, display is a lot clearer, the ui is more res2oldponsive even when clocked down etc. Dont get me wrong I love my dhd but its a bit "old" these days
Downside to the SGII is the battery life, standard and modified roms are both poor in my opinion, an in car charger is essential so it can be topped up before going to work or coming home from work etc.
I thought about this option too, upgrading to a SGS II coming from my DHD, especially seeing the big price drop on the SGS II now..
But then..

Idd..
If I'm upgrading it will be to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.. But so far still having lots of fun with the DHD and the loads of possibilities of custom ROM's
Hey,
Do you really see a battery life improvement ?
I had a SGS1 (Captivate), and couldn't stand Touchwiz. It drove me insane. What drove me more insane was the way Samsung would treat the dev community. Not much has changed since then with the release of the SGS2.
My girlfriend has the SGS2, and I will say the screen is nothing short of brilliant, and the form factor/weight is superb. However...Touchwiz!!! Argh...I hate it. It won't go away, either. Development is pretty slow as Samsung won't release the kernel source (they said they would...but then released some different source that wasn't the one on the phone)
I hate to see one of the premier Android handset makers acting so much like Apple. All that being said, I'm saving my money for the Galaxy Nexus...should be able to get it some time in February.
I think Samsung would exponentially increase their user and fan base if they would just ditch Touchwiz. Although, one of the main complaints I hear from people (mainly women/girls) about Android is that it's too complicated. I don't get this, but OK. I guess that is why Samsung seems so determined to mimic iOS.

hi guys,
bought a LG Optimus 2x ...
last rom i flashed to gt540 was miro's last AOSP because there is no need for swap (and an sd-card) and its stable and fast...
But know he has also left so its time to change ...

i got my HTC One V a few months ago. just gave my GT540 away to charity (screen was broken for the 4th time anyways , and couldnt get the motivation to fix it) still look in these forums from time to time, for nostalgia purposes i guess goodbye to you all and it's been a great 3 years
After a long time away i decided to stop in here for a while. The gt540 was my first android phone, in fact it was my first smart phone. Since then i have had galaxy s, galaxy s2, desire hd, hd2, iphone 4, 4s and 5.... In no particular order.
Learning how to root and install roms were all part of the fun and learning. It was great being part of this community.
And now i must say..... Goodbye

Farewell dear friends, I changed my phone with a clone dell'S3, I had fun with you and hope to meet again one day. With some of you there have been controversies, but I love you and I appreciate the work you have done for this phone, I will not forget! Thanks for everything .. bye!
Inspire 4g was my first smartphone ever.
I never knew about what rooting was until i typed, "Inspire 4g jailbreak(haha silly me)" on youtube.
it gave me some results to rooting.
So i did and followed the instruction.
the link sent me to XDA.
never knew what XDA was until I looked further into the website.
For the past 2 years here on DHD/I4G , I had a great time flashing every rom.
I think i at least tried every single rom.
Im sad that some amazing rom/dev stopped supporting the dhd/i4g like....Rcmix team, Leedroid, coredroid, the family because they moved to a new phone as well.
Now that I got my Nexus 4 in my hands, I'm proud to move unto a new phone.
Flashing new roms and new stuff from different amazing devs.
Hope I have some fun time over at Nexus 4 forum!
Im still going to be keeping my Inspire 4g to play around.
If any devs need a "tester" to test something, hit me up for it.

hope to see some of you over at Nexus 4 forum !

Have a great time @ Nexus 4.
I only registered today, after reading along and flashing my DHD for the past one and a half years..
Also thought about moving on to other phones now, but none of them really suits my need. One X looked awesome, but Hardware/Software didn't excite me. S3 works like a charm, but I couldn't stand that cheap plastic cover. Note II pretty much the same, and can't be used with one hand. One X+ is quite awesome, but already feels outdated with the DLX in clear sight - plus no LTE here. And Nokia and Motorola can't excite me either.
Maybe the updated DLX (LTE, non-cable loading, 2500+ mAh) will be what I'm looking for.. but until then, I guess I'm staying with my beloved DHD.
It simply is a flawless device.

I'm using Sabsa Prime v9.0 at the moment, and it has fantastic battery life, even with Wifi turned on and doing stuff every now and then, it holds for an entire day, with mobile internet probably more, haven't tested that yet though.
Unfortunately the ROM is taken offline at the moment, they are saying the dev copied some code from somewhere, nobody knows if it's true.. you will have to wait a few days, until it hopefully is online again. :fingers-crossed:

im pretty sure the nexus 4 will satisfy you.
at least for me...it did.
Nexus 4 is not under the contract.
(my contract ended so i can get another newer phone whenever I want + Nexus 4)
Nexus 4 has great spec for its low price.
Nexus 4 can fit into 1 hand
Nexus 4 comes with the latest updates and provides fast updates
It is pretty normal that people sooner or later will change their devices, especially in the world of Android where the new/improved hardware coming out every 6 months or so, render even the today flagship devices to obsolete within less than 1 year (look at the fate of One X).
Right now I still rocking my DHD with ARHD 6.3.3, it is still runs very fine since I bought it brand new earlier this year except for battery which is already shown the sign of decreased performances. So, congratulations for those who had already have One X or the shiny new Nexus 4 in their hands! See you in that devices forum next year when I have some money to throw at that flagship.
Nice. Congrats
