I've been using the Google Cloud Print app on my Nexus 10 since it came out. I went to print one of my notes from Google Keep today by long pressing and then accessing the share menu. However, Google Cloud Print was no longer listed. So I looked in my app drawer and noticed it was missing. I then went to the play store to reinstall in, however it was already installed! The strange part is when I click on it, there is no option to open it or uninstall it like there usually is. I figured this probably got messed up when the Kitkat update came out. But I looked on my wife's Moto X which is also on 4.4, and hers can still access the Google Cloud Print app from the share menu of Google Keep (and it still appears in her app drawer). Her phone is just Android 4.4, while my Nexus 10 is 4.4.2, so I'm not sure if they changed it between 4.4 and 4.4.2. Since I only had regular 4.4 on my tablet for about a week, I don't recall if the Google Cloud Print app worked when I was on regular 4.4 or not. I'm guessing Google may have disabled it thinking that app developers would all start using the new print capability of Kitkat. But not even a 1st party app like Keep supports it yet! Does anyone else have this issue? Or at least a work around so I can print from Keep?
I'm using Google Print, but I don't have an app, it's in Settings, towards the bottom. I've had no problems.
Edit to add that I dont use the Keep app, so cant help you there. I mostly print from Gmail.

Thanks sttovo. I do have it in Settings under the Printing section as well. But it seems that only shows up in apps that have the new Print capability. The nice thing with the old Good Cloud Print app was that you could access it from the share menu in apps. Once more developers add the Print capability to their apps, this shouldn't be an issue any more. But in the mean time I don't know that there is a solution for apps that don't have a Print option but do have a Share option.

OK - I understand now. The native Google Print integration for 4.4 is for certain apps, like Gmail, Chrome and Google Drive.
I use Printershare Mobile Print (not free) to do what you stated. I don't know if it integrates with every app, but it did have a share-to option. I haven't used it about 6 months, so make sure you read up on it if you decide to buy. Sorry I wasn't of any help.

Thanks sttovo, I will check that out. Prior to the Official Google Cloud Print app, there was one by a 3rd party app that I used (also called cloud print). I may try that one again or try the HP e-Print app.
Any local network only alternatives to Android printing?
I get that the cloud is the way of the future and there's a huge convenience factor (no drivers, print from anywhere, etc...) but I just prefer not to hand sensitive docs out to a cloud service just to get them printed. Is there a way to remove the "Cloud" from printing with Android? I have never been able to print from Android because I'd really like to keep my printing local and not send sensitive documents to the cloud.
If my printer has no gateway configured and I'm able to disable my Nexus 10 wi-fi and print a document, I'd be on cloud 9 (ok, bad pun intended)

Look at my post, 2 before yours, is that not what you need? I know it's not free, but it doesn't involve the cloud at all.

Cloud print and cloud print pro (registered version) that is a frontend by Paulo Fernandez for Google cloud print. It works with any app that has a share button and can print from drop box, Google drive and sky drive or even straight from the clipboard Or Google calander. I love this app. I noticed Google added the cloud print to a few of their apps this time around, but still prefer this app (along WITH google cloud print) since it has many more setting you can change . you can also still print from almost any app/screen on the n10 (can't with Google print alone, yet)
I absolutely think this is where Google print should be heading, but it is already in this app!

I don't want to get into the details of my upcoming presentation, I'm not in sales. We're looking into potential tools in my workplace. I need suggestions for reasons why the Evo is an ideal smart phone. I've already outlined the obvious (Android's apps, large screen, 4G, fast...) and I DO NOT want to compare it with the iPhone.
I'm looking for bells and whistles (because of my target audience), things that other phones can't do--stupid cell phone tricks like, using your laptop remotely with your android device, that sort of thing...

Plug your phone into a massive projector or TV.
Then play a video on youtube about some features and you're good.
Also mobile hotspots/tethering means people can connect to your phone through wifi and use your 3G-4G internet on any device.
It has an err kickstand.
If you really wanted to you could run a desktop operating system on it, though you would need to root..
8MP camera for great still shots in ample lit rooms.

if we're talking stock unrooted, i really like the intergration sense did with contacts/facebook/twitter/gmail. i also show off the kickstand (it gets more oooh/aaah reactions than i expected).

Show them Proxoid and explain the free tethering if they root.
Get a copy of LogMeIn Beta (it's floating around on here...) and show it.

All kidding aside, the kickstand is a huge one. If you're in a 4G area, big seller there, notification LED for missed calls/texts/emails/etc, front camera, HDMI if you have a good TV there.
Take off the battery cover and show them the MANLAND hiding inside!

Ok, PhoneMyPC is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. That is an intense app. Thanks, I'd never heard of it. I'll try it tonight.
RemoteDroid - use your phone as a trackball keyboard to control your computer on the same wifi network, useful for powerpoint presentations etc (it's also been recently open sourced)
USB webcam - although in its infancy, allows you to use the evo's camera as a webcam on your pc. Its choppy, but it works if you're in a pinch.
Touchdown - An email client with activesync support for exchange accounts, one of the only mail apps that allowed me to access mail at work
Rockplayer - Plays a variety of multimedia files without the need to recompress, simply drag/drop to sdcard and play
Astrid tasks - An open source todo list manager that you can schedule notifications for, also has a widget for easy viewing of pending tasks.
PureCalendar - Self explanatory
Gmote.
With Gmote, you can use your phone as a remote control for your PC or laptop, including using it as a keyboard if you want. I use it often for PowerPoint presentations.

Cool apps not found in market and some great unknown apps that are in the market. You'll get some cool ideas here as well as download links.
Don't forget to highlight Google Maps & Navigation...as it's hands down the best maps GPS application out there BAR NONE - and it's free.
A few people also mentioned this, but the text-to-speech integration is also insanely cool.
And Swype (or really swapping out any stock keyboard) is a nice touch, as most phones are locked to a single input type.
If your phone is rooted, it also wouldn't hurt to use ShootMe or the other screenshot app I'm drawing a blank on ATM...I believe you can even remotely display the phone interface on a PC, which does wonders for any kind of presentation.
Then there's the cheese - games, live wallpaper.

Printershare works well. You basically long click the url, select share-> printer share and you can send it to a wifi printer.

One of the things that all android applications (and the system itself) lacks, is the ability to print. As mentioned, there are some weird HACKS that you can do to make this functionality a reality (hackishly), but what would be REALLY cool would be native network printer support. There is NO reason why this hardware can't handle CUPS.
Note that you CAN install CUPS on the phone and it WILL work, which would give you the ability to print from the terminal... and this is relatively easy... but due to application limitations, you wouldn't be able to print from any android applications that I am aware of.... the actual functionality on the application side would NOT even be difficult.

I've been using my transformer for about a month now and all in all I am very happy with it. It has been rooted and Custom ROMed since day 1 and I got a big amount of apps on it.
As I use the transformer mostly for things I did with my regular computer, it has now come to a point where I find the transformer a bit too less integrated with my android phone.
With my regular PC it's been a one-click-action to send my current browser window to the phone via "Chrome2Phone" and vice versa with "2cloud".
Now with the transformer I have to use a chat app or twitter or anything alike to transfer the links to my phone. It takes a little to much effort to open the chat app, open the message, click the link... you get the point.
But instead of searching for a solution limited to this particular problem, it came to my mind, to ask you, how you "connect" both android devices to get the most out of it:
How do you get the best symbiosis-like experience out of an Android Tablet together with an Android Smartphone?
I'm not talking about having contacts in sync or tethering the phone to the tablet, it's more meant like the above things...
Maybe how you accomplish having apps and their data in sync, easily transfer things back and force from phone/tablet,
make notifications appear on both, have ringtone settings, locks, themes etc synchronized, have the same media on both devices, have a permanent dlna server on one of them to be available at every time, use one device as the input device for the other and so on.
Please think about everything that connects both devices in a smart way. As you can see I'm suffering from a lack of ideas considering how to make most use of my devices.
Is there a way to make an app bought/downloaded from the market on the phone automatically appear on the tablet and vice versa?
I hope we can collect a good collection of input, app recommendations to get more out of our great devices.

EDIT: it's a 5" (or 5.3 maybe?) tablet/phone combo. Supposed to be able to fulfill both roles.
I have my tablet using my phone's internet when I'm not at home, I have my contacts and calandar synced on both and have a dropbox account. I also have the app Tablet Remote which isn't as I would like it yet but currently does allow me to control my tablet with my phone and vice versa.
I use my phone for music, texting, reading e-mails/news on the go and my tablet for when I settle down. I'd say they're working pretty well as a combo.
@Mutnat Isn't that a bit too big? I mean 4,65 inch is also enormous but it seems it's getting bigger and bigger!
By using more cloud services (Dropbox, Cashbase, etc) and using Tablet Talk for SMS stuff -- works waaay better than TexTab or Bluetooth SMS.

Likely, yes. Too big for a phone, too small for a tablet. But having never tried one, I can't say for sure.

Thanks to Spidey01 I learned about a new cloud service to manage my expenses.
I already read about the shared text stuff beforehand, but unfortunately most of my mobile to mobile communication has shifted to Whatsapp and while there is a solution to run Whatsapp on the tablet, it adds more conflicts, as the tablet left at home with wifi permanently connected catches all those messages I'd rather get on my phone.
Concerning the Samsung Note I go with Mutnat. But it's definetly not an option for me as I prefer to have to separate devices.
One thing I'd like to throw in is Skifta, which is a fairly simple DLNA Server/Client that can be run on any android device. Start it on the phone, start in on the tablet and watch all your phone photos on the big screen.
Still curious what others do, so keep the thread going

I've been playing with Evernote and it has some sync-between-devices features.
Box.net is great for cloud storage and with esfile explorer, you can view the contents as an on machine folder on android. Gladinet has a free program that lets you mount cloud services as local folders. Add foldersync from the market to android and you can sync cloud folders to all machines.
Not ideal and not the continuous client you're aiming for, but helps keep the folders (pics, documents, movies, etc) in Sync.

on exactly what you want, no, i have never seen and dont know. but if you are willing to make an app that collects this data and sends it to the likes of box.net or dropbox and receive it and open on the other device would be good.
Apps like Colornote, Astrid and Evernote sync so quick notes on the phone end up on the tab and Google Voice works on the tab too. I use that number for text messages.
I have found twonky mobile very good for sharing media between devices.
I recommend Google Chrome as your main browser so that you're synced across all your devices. However it works just on Android 4.0.
I'm using so a GNEX, a linux PC, a Windows PC, a Windows laptop and my Transformer and it makes life a lot more easier.
In addition I recommend Google Music makes the handling with Music over multiple devices much easier.
And last but not least Google Docs for documents.
The only thing which I'm missing is an app which gives me the possibility to sync all my ebooks.

I've been using Aldiko and Aldiko Sync. The pro version has an automatic sync to dropbox. The great thing about Aldiko Sync is it remembers where you left off reading and saves that state, so when you switch devices you can immediately start reading.
This is using the app Onlive Desktop, available in the market but daftly "not compatible"

OK so download the app from android police.
go to the onlive website, sign up for an account, ignore the USA only nonsense, it works fine in uk.
install the app, sign in, and you get, windows desktop with Office.
you can minimise, resize windows, spell check works, its fast and smooth and the most awesome app i have ever seen - it ROCKS
You need to pay $5 per month for internet explorer but Office is free with 2gb dropbox storage.

Keyboard dock works perfectly.
The back key works like the ESC button in excel for example.
shortcuts work in word too.
The 2gb storage is not dropbox btw, its onlive's own servers. There is only 1 save place in the app which auto syncs with their cloud storage on the onlive servers, which is not connected to your transformers file structure.
So to open apps on your computer you have to go to:
http://files.onlive.com where you login again and use a web interface to upload, download, delete, rename.
I did this in dolphin browser - you cant do this from within the app, you have to use an alternate browser.
Makes it a bit harder to keep all your files synced etc but i think they are working on improving the storage / saving relationship so it will be like ubuntu and share your data - who knows if or when though!
only thing i have found missing - no macros in excel, you cant open the VBA coding pages or bring up a macro tab or recording ability. not the end of the world but would have been nice!

not sure what you mean? Is your dock not doing anything at all in Onlive?
I just started typing and using the trackpad, nothing special, it was always working.
try restarting or maybe unplugging and replugging your dock into the tablet to see if that does it.

Well, you can change the language allright (I tried Word in french) but the keyboard layout seems to be impossible to enable... so as much as I like the concept, this app is useless for me, as I just can't type in french...
Must be the reason why it is not available in my country, according to the Market.
Does networking work on it? Is there any way to get another browser on it without having to pay for IE?
It's nice but the novelty wears off pretty quick IMO. The features are too limited. I would rather use splashtop to stream my own win 7.

Agree Nice to have a familiar page to work on, but unless you have wifi access it is useless. Several other tools offer many of the functions, without the strings attached. Also company not clear about security of your saved docs.
The transformer is compatible if you install by going to market.android.com in your browser and pushing the install to your device. Weird, but it works.

It should be compatible from the market on the tablet that's how I got it.
External mouse seems to work OK but the right-click was not working properly (at all). Scroll wheel wasn't working either.
If anyone is paying for the plus features can you install programs on it?
I heard you can but that would be awesome if you could use steam or something or install onlive.. (lol)
It might be a really limited version of windows 7 but if you can install programs that's pretty cool. I have a macbook unfortunately so I think it's really cool being able to play around with windows 7 even if it's not full featured. And to give onlive credit. Quite a few of those "touch screen" tablet like windows 7 devices run around $1,000 or so. I've played with a few at the MS Store. Not everyone might have a use for this but I'l sure some will and it's just really cool to be able to do.
I too would only be interested in this if I can use some of my familiar windows apps, like photoshop and after effects..that would be the only reason if onlive can get these apps installed and working on my TF, otherwise I will stick with splashtop and just remote to my home-based PC.

Then OnLive will have to pay Adobe a ton of licensing fee, which will be passed down to the users, or resort to using advertisements.
Either way, I am not willing to pay a fee or deal with advertisements to use programs that I already have(not gonna say own, lol) on my personal computer.
i have just used word and excel to prep a finance report, works fine. Bit slower and clunkier than doing it on a PC, but if you dont have a PC and therefore cannot use splashtop then this is a decent solution.
i needed to use both word and excel, you just cannot do that in polaris - it only allows 1 type of document open at once so you can flick between the two.
i tried using kingsoft office but you cant even do bullet points in its word, and its excel cant even do formulas lol
so for me to use word and excel, onlive is the only way and it worked fine, even if a bit slower than an actual PC.

If you're not happy with how the phone handles things and if it can't do certain things you need it to do the best way to go is to sell the phone and get one that does. Given that you already tried to find solutions for some of those things and found out that they could not be done differently on WP you are left with only two options:
- live with how things are done/can be done (e.g. Jump Lists in the App List, pinning important Apps to the Start Screen)
- get rid of the phone and use something else in the hopes of it doing things the way you want them done
You can be sure not a troll nor stupid. I use mobile phones from the beginning and can very well distinguish pros and cons. We can and do build out own servers and use the phone as a business tool. Just see what MS did with the BT stack, incomplete, you cannot connect a simple keyboard which is needed when taking notes in conferences, Using the cloud for confidential information is a nono, DropBox does not work with WP8.... Me or someone else calling stupid shows where your standard is.
When I make a final decision to sell the phone you will be the first for an offer. It will come with a nice black leather case open front and 32 GB SD card. I need some additional research to find the right solution.

So to avoid wasting more thread space criticizing OP:
1. Yes, the BT stack is limited, but what's there works well (other phones have all sorts of issues with BT freezing on connect, etc.)
2. If by "Outlook," you mean Outlook.com or an Exchange server, nothing syncs better with those than WP; same with OneNote; the only thing that would make sense is if you mean data stored in a local PST on the desktop Outlook app, which WP doesn't directly sync to-- valid point, but other platforms don't do native sync at all (or very well) either, so the only real comparison point is Windows Mobile 6.x lol; if you do want to do local Outlook syncing, try Akruto Sync

Good answer, but please see that DropBox (will try Boxfiles App)or Team Viewer or Dragon and other do not work, As an attorney- (working with very sensitive data) I cannot have data from clients in a cloud, I could loose my shirt. I need a weekly calendar which also shows to do and notes like in Outlook.. OneNote on the PC is not fully compatible with OneNote in WP8. I made it work, but it is a work around. In the list of Apps I have at least 10 single letters and when you click on it, it opens the full alphabet, nothing else. SkyDrive is for me only of limit use, A BT Keyboard is a deal breaker, I use the phone in meetings to take notes which later will be part of a client electronic file. Samsung Ativ is a nice phone, basically I like it, but it has to assist and function in my daily work. I do not care to store a lot of music or videos. Miss a good file manager. You mention the top bar, not on the Samsung above the tiles. It shows only the time. Imagine you have a fight with the IRS for hundred of thousand of $$ and I would as your attorney leave documents in your case on SkyDrive.

On the top bar, if you tap anywhere in the bar (on the time or anywhere to the left of it), the cell + Wifi + BT + battery status show up. They disappear after a few seconds in the interest of clean design (then show up only when there's a problem, like no signal or low battery). On the app list, in addition to the alphabetical jump-list, there's also a search button at the top-left.
The Calendar app has to-dos (see the "to-do" tab to the right of "agenda"). Week view is indeed missing-- MS should prob implement it in landscape view, as Apple did when it added week view in iOS 5. You can sort of approximate it by tapping month view -> day for each day of the week. Something weird about the month view is that if you look at it carefully on a 720p device in landscape, you'll notice the number of items matches how many you have scheduled for that day, but the actual text is gibberish (lorem ipsum) instead of your actual items, since it's not meant to be visible haha.
I've been a pretty heavy OneNote user- the WP8 app is not the full desktop app by any means, but it's better than what you get on Android or iOS. The local file manager issue is valid-- WP8 does not expose the file system in the interest of simplicity, which does make things less flexible than, say, Windows Mobile. I use SkyDrive as a sort of local drive, since everything in WP8 can save there-- but if you have concerns with consumer cloud services (SkyDrive, Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, etc.) being subpoenable, etc., that's a valid concern.
There is some motion in that space, though-- I know of many law firms that have switched to Office 365 for Exchange/Sharepoint/etc. (which is a lot more data than just files in SkyDrive), since the uptime and security is actually better than what they had in-house (http://www.microsoftbusinesshub.com/Industries/Legal). That includes "SkyDrive Pro," the Sharepoint file store.
If I can suggest something, take a look at the Surface RT, with the Type Cover. You'll get a full-blown Windows experience, with local files, full-blown Office 2013 (minus x86 macros) with desktop OneNote, etc., and a great keyboard, but 10-hour battery life, in a 1.5 lb form factor. There's a TeamViewer app for WinRT, and you can access almost anything a full PC can (here on XDA, people have even ported x86 desktop apps and an x86 emulator). I generally carry the Surface + WP8 everywhere now-- phone for quick stuff and Surface for longer content.

U couldnt have data from ur clients on a cloud? Then u shouldnt use android
And if u want not to use Skydrive with Onenote u can also create Offline Word Documents and write down ur Meeting Information there.
And what exactly isnt working with One Note on PC and ur Phone?
But for what r u using dropbox? Isnt that a cloud too?
After u press a Letter in the Apps Menu the Alphabet is show so u can select the Letter u want ur App starts with.
For the Topbar u can always touch on the Clock to get the Whole Topbar shown with all Informations.

Androids bt stack is also incomplete. Most of the other things you mention are there. If its trully business usage you want then buy a WM device, not even your beloved android comes close to wm. The only thing wm doesn't do better is games and video playback and most of that is down to crap drivers from the oems

On the PC I have in One Note a personal and office section. The office section can only be seen with Sky Drive.Why not having both section direct in the Phones One Note without Sky Drive. Any suggestion? I guess it is possible but do not know to get it done. It seems Logitech will bring a compatible Keyboard for the Ativ,

I like vnc better then teamviewer personally. Ive never had as problem with one note or outlook syncing. I also enjoy the android os on my tablet. Perhaps that might be a solution for you. I use my Aviv s to provide internet to my android tablet.

If there is one thing that WP does infinitely better than Android, that is protecting your privacy.
Hell, on android you can even get spyware and trojan downloaded from the marketplace, and you will never even know it. If you want privacy, go for WP and stick with it.

LOL.......it seems that 95% of WP apps require access to your location, and they send this also to Microsoft. Having access to my location is fine, as long as it makes sense.

cause yeh LOL google maps location process doesn't run like 100% if time in the background on ANY android phone.
