Any remote control app?

Are there any PC remote control app? Something similar to the team viewer app for iphone or another one?

Gmote 2.0 is kind of a remote app, mainly for media though.
It allows you to search through your files of your pc, from your phone,
and either play them on your pc, or on your phone. Has normal, play pause volume settings.
I.e. if i have an episode of family guy on my pc, i can use my phone to play it on my pc, which means i can be lazy and not move off my bed and watch it.
Also if i fancy doing it the other way round, i can stream the episode to my phone.
Only works over a local wi-fi though.

It works perfectly on my Desire and Windows 7 PC (even though the installation instructions say XP/Vista).

Only annoying thing is i cant stream most of my videos to my phone , buts that not the app fault, its fact there mostly .avi .
Great little app for us lazy people! Very useful when your watch a series of something with 20 mins episodes and you cant cant be bothered to get up and go the next one!

If any of you use MCE try myRemote, its awesome!

GRemote Pro is also awesome, not free though...

Thanks for your suggestions but I was looking for something more than just file browsing and running applications, more like having my PC desktop displayed and the mouse controllable on my desire's display.

GRemote Pro will allow you to control your mouse cursor and type etc, but won't display your PC desktop, you're talking about remote desktop software, not remote software.
For that try the LogMeIn free beta, or PhoneMyPC.

TeamViewer and LogMeIn are both working on an android app I believe

I can Highly recommend Gmote.
Tried it today on Ubuntu desktop machine and It's awesome!

Logmein is already available. Teamviewer is still in dev.

phonemypc is awesome. The execute Actions feature allows me (with the help of the app developer), to open a MS Access database on my pc with one button press. When that database is opened it automatically runs macros within Access.
I then press another button from my Android to close the MS Access database on my PC. You can of course remotely control your PC from your android. However, as mentioned above it is the ability to one button press an action that can be a bat file on your PC.
Excellent and well worth the money IMHO

If it's a remote desktop app you're after, have you tried RDP Client or PocketCloud?

UnifiedRemote looks pretty good.

I just got PhoneMyPC and whenever I try to connect to my PC, the application just crashes. Any ideas?

TeamViewer beta 6.x both for desktop and phone work excellent! Pretty much exactly what I was after for months.
Initially, their front page ad scared me. Some Indian and Philippine fraudsters were using the same ad on their websites with a different edited product name which looks very similar overall (and the same blue website theme). They were phoning UK/US homes disguised as a legit business trying to get you to install such a product on your PC with lofty offers in return (free software, movies, etc). The product allowed them to basically take over your Windows machine without you realizing.

What do you actually use webtop for?

I havent used it yet, but I may install the webtop over HDMI hack soon. I am wondering what people actually use webtop for though.
Any by that I dont mean I want an answer as to what it CAN be used for, but what YOU ACTUALLY are using it for, if that makes sense.

I mainly use it to take notes in classes, remote desktop into my desktop when i'm away, browse the Web in bed. This mostly applies to using the laptop dock though, do not sure how much this will help you.

My primary use of webtop is landscape mirroring of the phone screen. It's pretty convenient when your out and can just plug into an hdmi port and have streaming netflix on a big screen. In addition to having the phone screen, the full firefox browser is nice for youtube and streaming from my orb media server back at home.
IMO the webtop interface is what sets this phone apart from other android based devices out there and I love messing with it. Someday I'll get around to setting up full ubuntu if not just for the bragging rights. "My phone is also a complete linux computer."

I mostly use it to get remote terminal sessions into my Unix and Linux boxes at work. And for IRC, of course.

I love my lapdock.
I use it at work to see my Ip cameras and answer mails.
At home I use it for browsing the web, checking videos and my tv series.
I edit some of my files and print them right away.

4. Do some Word and Excel document creation and editing
5. Do some basic Photoshop editing (GIMP)
6. Do major remote desktop through LogMeIn (Website) to my workplace and family computers.
Now I don't have to haul my heavy laptop.

[Q] The ultimate Phone-and-tablet symbiosis

Hi everbody,
I've been using my transformer for about a month now and all in all I am very happy with it. It has been rooted and Custom ROMed since day 1 and I got a big amount of apps on it.
As I use the transformer mostly for things I did with my regular computer, it has now come to a point where I find the transformer a bit too less integrated with my android phone.
With my regular PC it's been a one-click-action to send my current browser window to the phone via "Chrome2Phone" and vice versa with "2cloud".
Now with the transformer I have to use a chat app or twitter or anything alike to transfer the links to my phone. It takes a little to much effort to open the chat app, open the message, click the link... you get the point.
But instead of searching for a solution limited to this particular problem, it came to my mind, to ask you, how you "connect" both android devices to get the most out of it:
How do you get the best symbiosis-like experience out of an Android Tablet together with an Android Smartphone?
I'm not talking about having contacts in sync or tethering the phone to the tablet, it's more meant like the above things...
Maybe how you accomplish having apps and their data in sync, easily transfer things back and force from phone/tablet,
make notifications appear on both, have ringtone settings, locks, themes etc synchronized, have the same media on both devices, have a permanent dlna server on one of them to be available at every time, use one device as the input device for the other and so on.
Please think about everything that connects both devices in a smart way. As you can see I'm suffering from a lack of ideas considering how to make most use of my devices.
Is there a way to make an app bought/downloaded from the market on the phone automatically appear on the tablet and vice versa?
I hope we can collect a good collection of input, app recommendations to get more out of our great devices.

EDIT: it's a 5" (or 5.3 maybe?) tablet/phone combo. Supposed to be able to fulfill both roles.

I have my tablet using my phone's internet when I'm not at home, I have my contacts and calandar synced on both and have a dropbox account. I also have the app Tablet Remote which isn't as I would like it yet but currently does allow me to control my tablet with my phone and vice versa.
I use my phone for music, texting, reading e-mails/news on the go and my tablet for when I settle down. I'd say they're working pretty well as a combo.
@Mutnat Isn't that a bit too big? I mean 4,65 inch is also enormous but it seems it's getting bigger and bigger!

By using more cloud services (Dropbox, Cashbase, etc) and using Tablet Talk for SMS stuff -- works waaay better than TexTab or Bluetooth SMS.

Likely, yes. Too big for a phone, too small for a tablet. But having never tried one, I can't say for sure.

Thanks to Spidey01 I learned about a new cloud service to manage my expenses.
I already read about the shared text stuff beforehand, but unfortunately most of my mobile to mobile communication has shifted to Whatsapp and while there is a solution to run Whatsapp on the tablet, it adds more conflicts, as the tablet left at home with wifi permanently connected catches all those messages I'd rather get on my phone.
Concerning the Samsung Note I go with Mutnat. But it's definetly not an option for me as I prefer to have to separate devices.
One thing I'd like to throw in is Skifta, which is a fairly simple DLNA Server/Client that can be run on any android device. Start it on the phone, start in on the tablet and watch all your phone photos on the big screen.
Still curious what others do, so keep the thread going

I've been playing with Evernote and it has some sync-between-devices features.

Box.net is great for cloud storage and with esfile explorer, you can view the contents as an on machine folder on android. Gladinet has a free program that lets you mount cloud services as local folders. Add foldersync from the market to android and you can sync cloud folders to all machines.
Not ideal and not the continuous client you're aiming for, but helps keep the folders (pics, documents, movies, etc) in Sync.

on exactly what you want, no, i have never seen and dont know. but if you are willing to make an app that collects this data and sends it to the likes of box.net or dropbox and receive it and open on the other device would be good.

Apps like Colornote, Astrid and Evernote sync so quick notes on the phone end up on the tab and Google Voice works on the tab too. I use that number for text messages.

I have found twonky mobile very good for sharing media between devices.

I recommend Google Chrome as your main browser so that you're synced across all your devices. However it works just on Android 4.0.
I'm using so a GNEX, a linux PC, a Windows PC, a Windows laptop and my Transformer and it makes life a lot more easier.
In addition I recommend Google Music makes the handling with Music over multiple devices much easier.
And last but not least Google Docs for documents.
The only thing which I'm missing is an app which gives me the possibility to sync all my ebooks.

I've been using Aldiko and Aldiko Sync. The pro version has an automatic sync to dropbox. The great thing about Aldiko Sync is it remembers where you left off reading and saves that state, so when you switch devices you can immediately start reading.

hey guys i am an absolute noob at all this stuff, but im a uni student with an a500. It really annoys me that each note taking app just lacks in different ways, but none of them are capable for solid note taking for lectures. Im looking for 'MS word' which for obvious reasons will not pop up on android anytime soon, so i was wondering if i could somehow get windows running on the iconia tab. Im not asking for a dual boot or anything, just like a virtual machine or something, but again, i don't want something like splashtop remoted desktop client or anything, because then i might aswell just use my computer. My tablet is on 3.2.1, so if i have to root it, please tell me that aswell. I downloaded VMware view from the market, but have NO idea whatsoever how to get things running. Please tell me if it is another desktop streamer, because thats not what i wanted at all. If it isnt, then could someone please tell me how to use it?

check out splash top in the market. It's cheaper on Amazon app store. You can remote connect to windows even over the internet. If you have wifi at school. Fast enough to stream and play computer games on the tablet.

Wow, you didn't read his post at all, did you? He clearly said NO splashtop or such.
As for the OP: no, you cannot run Windows on A500 in any meaningful way. Emulating a complete different architechture would simply bring the tablet down to a crawl. Vmware view afaikis for use with vmware server, btw.

This isn't really an answer to your specific question, but have you tried Freenote from the market? It works pretty well for me, and allows for both typing and freehand writing with a stylus. A bit cumbersome until you get used to it, but after messing with it for a bit, I manage a pretty damn fast freehand writing speed with it.
As far as Windows goes, its like WereCatf said...not a thing available that would do what you want. At least not that I can find.

You can't run windows, but you could use supernote, that's what I use.

You're wholly welcome.

VMWare View is not what you are looking for.
View is merely a client to connect and deliver virtual machines from a pre-existing VMWare ESX / vSphere / vCenter setup... which is thousands of dollars in infrastructure and licensing.

The 'next best thing' so to speak would be to run Linux (debian) in a chroot (which is basically a very crude form of virtualization, requiring the two OSes to be similar enough to run on the same kernel)... To run Windoze on a simulated x86 CPU, qemu should work but it'll probably be way too slow (it's slow enough running Android ARM on my 2x2.2GHz machine with hardware virtualization support -- which Tegra doesn't have).
EDIT: The best way to get Linux chroot is to use Linux Installer from the market. Many tutorials on the web tell don't tell you about that, unfortunately.

getting an emulator onto the tablet would waste battery life like crazy.. i see no benefit to running virtualized desktop from the tablet for note taking purposes.
what about just an MS office-like app... OfficeSuite Pro does the job for me with note taking...
it syncs up with google docs / box / and dropbox accounts. paired with my bluetooth keyboard and usb mouse i never have issues taking notes.

First as has already been pointed out emulating windows in order to just take notes is rather stoopid. There are many apps that will let you make and edit word documents quite well. Secondly if you want to do windows things on your tablet, dolphin (or other remote desktop) is the way to go. Hell vmware view is a remote desktop where you are only using a portion of the server. With fast wifi Dolphin is really really nice.

[Q] Help getting the best use of my Nexus 10

Hi All
Please bear with me, as this post might get a bit long. But I'd like to provide as much info as possible in order to get the best help (hopefully).
So why'd I get the Nexus 10? Well I was eyeing it out for a few weeks but it was out of stock. Finally we went to John Lewis to buy me a Nexus 7 for my birthday, but while there, we tried the Galaxy Note 10.1. I absolutely loved the Polaris Office and the handwriting recognition. So I foolishly thought this was stock on all Nexus and when I checked online, the Nexus 10 32GB was back in stock. So I bought that instead.
So when I got the tablet I was understandably excited But the more I used it, the more disappointed I got. From trying to setup the email to searching for apps. So I am now on the fence about keeping it or sending it back because just about everything I want to do is just not simple and straight forward and productive. BUT I love the screen and the build and the spec. So I'm here desperately trying to find the tools to get the best out of the tablet so I don't have to send it back
I think now is the time to say, this is not an Android bashing or Android vs iOS/iPad argument. I want to stick to my Nexus 10, but I just need to get the best out of it.
So what do I want to get out of it?
* reading eBooks. I think I've finally found a suitable reader in moon+ reader. I've tried all the other free readers and either they don't zoom images or the options are rubbish.
* browsing the web - I've tried all the popular browsers, Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Dolphin, Puffin, Boat, Ocean, Maxthon. All except Chrome are missing the function I need the most, the ability to have all my tabs still open when I go to launch the browser again. Chrome is the only one that does this, but it has crashed SEVERAL times already in the last few days. To the point of causing 100% CPU (according to cool tool and lack of responsiveness). I'd also like an "almost" or as close to desktop browsing experience as possible. There's no point having the larger screen if I just keep getting redirected to the mobile versions of sites.
* Email - the built in email client is pants and incomplete. I need to have access to my Gmail and to my exchange mailboxes, which I do. But I can't access any of my sub folders in my exchange mailboxes. The other problem is you can't archive gmail emails and for some stupid reason, deleting mail from the gmail mailbox moves the email into an "Imap/deleted" tag, rather than the Gmail bin. Even the stock iOS mail app does this and I'd have expected something on Android to be even better. Using the Gmail app is not an option as it's slow and I'd rather use one app. Oh! My other problem with the default mail app is that when you open an email in landscape, it only uses about 2/3 of the screen for the actual email. What's the point in that? Oh, and when you setup the email account, you get the option to sync tasks, but I can't see a tasks app. It also seems to "wrap" text at 80 characters, but it wraps by cutting part of the words, rather than wrapping an entire word.
* RDP - I need to access my work PC using RDP and without having to install some other "host" software which most/all of the apps I've tried so far require. 2xClient seems ok, but Zooming in causes all the font to be grainy. iTap seems good, but is not free.
* Editing word and excel documents - I've only found Kingsoft Office, as all the others aren't free. But Polaris Office looked SOOOO much better.
* Notes - no built in notes app. Any recommendations?
* SSH, Ping, Traceroute - TBH I haven't searched for these apps as I've spent a load of time searching for the other apps. So suggestions are welcome
I'm sure I could possibly overcome many of the issues with the stock ROM by installing one of the custom ROMs, but the reasons I haven't done this so far are:
1) I don't want to change the ROM and invalidate the warranty
2) I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the info (even though I'm a pretty proficient tech). I used to load custom ROMs on my windows mobile and I've jailbroken my iphone in order to get other useful tools like the activator and bitesms etc.
3) I just haven't looked long enough to find a good custom ROM. Most of the ROMs threads don't have screenshots and "feature lists"
Anyway, I said this post would be long Thanks if you've read this far and thanks in advance for any help/advice.

OK as far as readers I just use Google books. For browser look for chrome beta as it is muuuuch better than chrome. Office wise king soft is the best you're going to get for free. I personally use office2012 text maker. RDP you can search vnc also. There is one app that is decent but I'm blanking on the name works with vnc and rdp. Notes there is ever note or there is a "floating" note that was developed on xda but again blanking on the name. Finally for ssh etc I say terminal ide has from ssh to vim or for a simpler try connectbot . for ROMs I prefer aokp with kt's kernel visit the forum on a browser not the app theyll usually have screenshots etc. Or check just features of aokp/cm as most are based on those. hope any of that helps

It "was" much better than Chrome. They're both on-par for now (Chrome got the engine updates that Beta had recently).

Thanks for the response. Google books looks great, except it doesn't allow you to add your own books (at least I couldn't find the option).
Also VNC isn't an option for accessing my work computer unfortunately. It's just not as flexible or secure as RDP. I'll have a search for the SSH clients you've mentioned. I've been looking in this forum for the ROMs, maybe I'll just have to go through each of the threads.

Ah didn't know haven't used it at all as of late.
I only mention vnc because the client I'm thinking does both. I looked it up and is called pocket cloud. It asks you to install host stuff but is not necessary to use either rDP or vnc. I haven't actually tried adding my own hah so not sure on that. I prefer terminal ide since it includes a lot of tools. Most useful for me is vim. As for ROMs I suggest Mr Robinson or bigxies aokp pub or task650 aokp or eos or carbon, lots of people also really like rasbean

I had downloaded pocketcloud but then deleted it because I thought it needed the desktop software. I've just tried it and the free version is alright though it doesn't scale too well in the free version. I've tried 2xclient but it makes Outlook 2013 really blurry when zoomed in. I now have to decide if I'm going to spend the money on the pro version of iTap or Pocket Cloud or Jump Desktop or AccessToGo or the free RemoteToGo. Either way I think I have some good choices/options now

Thanks. I also saw ParaAndroid (hopefully spelt that right) and I am working up the courage to change the ROM
I also discovered UC Browser from one of the other threads in the Apps forum and I must say I am actually liking it so far. It has gestures, is quick and smooth and it remembers all the tabs I had open. It also has a very nifty floating button/toolbar which is customizable and gives me the option to scroll to top (something that iOS provides by clicking on the toolbar in any app - I use mouse gestures in Windows so this is something I personally use).
I also discovered (albeit by mistake) that the stock email app does indeed show/support subfolders in exchange accounts. You simply need to double click the folder and it will expand the sub folders. Joy! It's now good enough to do the job and I can get used to the other differences/quirks.
Thumb keyboard does indeed look good, but it's not free. I don't really want to spend money on something I may not like. I am currently trying FloatNSplit which is similar but doesn't seem to have all the features of Thumb Keyboard.
I think with a custom ROM and a few more tweaks, I may actually start to properly enjoy my Nexus 10.

Thanks. I'll have a look. Hopefully they have a trial. But I watched a video of the Galaxy Note 10.1 mail client and it seems to have all the features that the stock client in Android is mssing. Is there any way of getting that client for free?
I am still torn between keeping my nexus 10 because of its great screen and specs or to send it back and get a galaxy 10.1 for its awesome S-Pen & productivity features/tools

For me, at work, I rely on rules in Exchange to route messages to different folders. Then, I assign different sounds to the different senders/folders. I also need to be sure my message notifications are always being pushed to the phone, no matter what folder they land in. Touchdown allows for all of this. Its expensive at $19, luckily I was able to expense it to my work. But after using Touchdown there is absolutely no way I could go back to the stock versions of email, etc..
