I've tried everything and I cannot boot into recovery on my S4(GT-9505).
I have reverted to the stock firmware for my carrier using Odin, and installed CWM and held the three buttons until the screen came on and let go of them. Still, black screen, then reboot. What can I do?
Yes when I first flashed recovery I had same issue, to fix I just reflashed again and all was good.

I flashed Philz recovery for the 50th time and it worked.
Keep trying, don't let the aching fingers bring you down!
SOLVED!
The easiest way to boot to recovery is:
Hold volume up+power button
When you see blue writing release power button but keep volume up button pressed.
Hold volume up until recovery boots
Easy as that

10000 thanks!!!!
When attempting to enter recovery mode on my xt907, I get a sideways android figure with a red triangle instead of the normal recovery screen. I have not attempted to root the phone. Everything is stock. I usually boot into recovery once in a while to clear the cache. I have not changed anything since the last successful recovery boot. Any ideas?
Doesn't this always happen... then you have to press vol up and vol down to then enter the recovery menu... this should show you how to get in there... http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JtzubRAGMWc&desktop_uri=/watch?v=JtzubRAGMWc

In that screen, hold volume down and tap volume up to get into the recovery menu.
It's very strange - I can't get to recovery by holding down power + vol-up + home buttons. The message comes up that it's booting recovery but then disappears for a second and then either powers off or boots normally.
I can boot into recovery through the toolkit/odin/goomanager however and I've also found that I can boot into recovery if I first go into download mode, press vol-down to cancel download and boot normally and then immediately press the vol-up/power/home button combination.
I have TWRP installed but I previously had philz CWM and this problem happened with both. If i remember rightly the first recovery I tried to install was the original CWM with odin but when I booted into recovery it was still the stock recovery. I'm not sure if this information is necessary though.
Can anyone help me with this or why this could be happening?

When was the last time you updated SuperSU?
Go to the playstore and download/install the latest version reboot the phone normally and after reboot reboot into recovery.
Good luck!
Thanks, that worked. I can now get into recovery with the button combo.

I have been using goo manager to reboot into recovery on my ls980 on a stock odex rom. I went into a bootloop while flashing a new Rom. I couldn't boot into recovery or factory erase mode using the methods that I've seen. I messed around with my phone for about an hour and finally got it to work.
What I have to do is hold power and volume down button at the same time, when the lg screen pops up release the volume down button while keeping the power button pressed. A splash screen will pop up saying entering recovery mode. It will then boot into recovery.
I searched xda and Google and haven't been able to find this method so if had already been covered I couldn't find it.

I have a Philz recovery installed because I wanted to root my phone but it doesn't work so i want to change it with Chenglu's CWM recovery but i don't know how. When i press Vol up+ Home button + power button at the same time, it goes to recovery mode. How can i change it then to download mode and how to remove Philz recovery to install Chenglu's? Thank you!
Turn phone off and press Volume down + power
