Visited Amazon.com today and was presented with an offer to pay 25% down on any HDX tablet with 3 additional payments occoring evey 90 days. No credit check, no interest.
Been on the edge of ordering the 8.9 HDX for awhile and this pushed me over the edge. Should arrive tomorrow.
Apparently this offer isn't available to anyone, as some have mentioned that going to this link gives an error page rather than the offer page. Figured it was worth posting it in case anyone wanted to take advantage of it.
Amazon Payment Deal
If the link doesn't work for some reason, try just visiting the main homepage of Amazon.com
Thank you for this!!! This helped my decision as well.
Funny, I can't help but wonder if I'm partly responsible for this new promo. I doubt it, but I just had it out with Amazon over offering their try before you buy the new kindles to random customers that have absolutely no interest in buying the tablet, as opposed to previous Kindle owners that would clearly be interested. The long-winded email was delivered directly to their marketing department.
Unfortunately in my case, the fiasco with their customer service 4 times in a row was enough to return my 7" Hdx and cancel my prime. Mostly just me sticking to my principles at this point, but it's nice that they gave some people other options.
Edit: although, it's certainly much easier to believe, considering the activity around this forum, that they just haven't been selling very well

Thanks for the info.
But for my account, there is no 25% off, instead of 4x25% of full price payment, each delay for 90 days.
You agree to pay the full price of the qualifying Kindle Fire HDX device you selected in four equal quarterly payments. No interest or finance charges apply to this offer. Any interest, finance charges or fees assessed by the issuer of the payment method to which payments are charged may still apply. Any applicable tax and shipping charges will be assessed when you check out and will be due in full when you make your purchase. Your payment schedule is:
Payment Due Date
Initial Payment Purchase Date
First Payment 90 Days from the Purchase Date
Second Payment 180 Days from the Purchase Date
Third Payment 270 Days from the Purchase Date

When I said "25% down", I meant a 25% downpayment, not a 25% off deal. Sorry if that was confusing.

As best I can tell, they seem to be selling pretty well, however most of the people who would normally be interested in rooting a 7" tablet likely have already gone to the Nexus 7 (which also seems to defeat the purpose of unlocking the bootloader in the first place seeing as they get updates before pretty much anyone else, but I digress...).
Bezos has said the intent was to sell the devices as close to cost as possible. Considering all of these occasional discounts and alternate payment arrangements, I wonder if they're seeing a reduction in their parts costs and are, instead of waiting to do a full-on price cut, instead doing these half-measures to coax out some additional sales for the holiday season and then just make them permanent later on.
I jumped on it to get the 8.9 HDX 64g with Verizon 4G.

Well, updates to Aosp also means updates to most roms eventually, which is also good stuff. I have an n4, and I'm always excited to see what the devs do with new android releases. Further polishing updates from Google, so I can understand the Nexus ecosystem.
I would be surprised to find they're selling enough to actually cut the price of the Hdx though. It's a very niche tablet, but then again Amazon has a lot of users. Really could've gotten a lot more sales if they allowed sideloading Google services though. But in the long term, it does lock more people into Amazon services, so we'll see how it plays out for them.

This deal works on the 4g models? I never tested it, but was considering it and then in the fine print it said wifi models only. Maybe I should have checked to see if the 4g models worked. Either way, I jumped on the 32gig 8.9" model. I've been pretty happy with my 7" HD and was wanting a slightly larger screen. Even with my Nexus 10, I find myself using my smaller tablet(s) more often. Maybe time to sell the Nexus 10 to cover this cost!

Seems to work with any HDX. Either the 7" or 8.9 in all of their various configurations.
As for how to get the deal, make sure you are logged into your Amazon account when you click the link in my original post. I have seen some situations where people are just being told they are not eligible, for whatever reasons.
Restrictions per Android central:
There are a few restrictions, though. Folks from Washington, DC or Florida need not apply, and you have to have been an Amazon customer for two years. In addition, you need to have a credit card on file that expires no earlier than March 2014*— no debit cards are accepted.

Yes, but It was the At&T not Verizon. Sorry.
I decided to give this a try as well. With Prime I will have it by Tuesday. I have held off on any of the Kindle devices, but after getting and being really happy with the Nook HD+ I figured for the initial $125 out of pocket the HDX 8.9 was worth checking out.
Well, I'm pulling the trigger as well thanks to this thread and deal.....thanks for sharing O/P!!!
I do have a question though, not that rooting won't be in my future with this device but I'm just curious if the Kindle 'market' is any better than the Nook Market or is everything a purchase in that one too?
Pushed me over the edge also... went for the 8.9 64Gb. They made it irresistible. Here's hoping I can put my existing apps on it!

Man I have my fingers and toes crossed for us
Related
Tablets are appearing left, right, and center these days and I think I have decided that I would like to support the innovative little guy. However, I have sent several emails over the course of the last month inquiring how someone could place an order.
I am in the US (if that matters) and was wondering if anyone had successfully ordered or put their names on a waiting list recently (and if so how?), and how long it takes from start to stop to get your adam.
Thanks!
RE: pre-order windows? existance is futile?
I've been wondering the same thing. Every time I talk myself into grabbing one I can't seem to locate any way of pre-ordering.
Aside from the few that are marked up/snarked up on *bay... I too would rather support the little guy. Though I fear that once I get around to talking myself into picking up a tablet again, an iPad2 will head my way.
I believe Notion Ink has finished taking orders for their 2nd pre-order.
http://store.notionink.com/subscribe.php
This link gets you on their list of people who have interest in purchasing one. If they have any left to sell they will contact you.
The first batch of orders in Dec were across the map as far as time from ordering to delivery (Some got theres in Jan, others not till recently)
I don't believe anyone in this second batch has gotten delivery yet. I ordered mine on Feb 9th and the estimated shipping date is March 3rd-10th (but who knows if that will hold true).
There is a reason why they are calling these "Pre-Orders", I think it is taking them some time to produce them which is certainly a risk us consumers are taking. But have faith if you think this device suits you the best.
iPad 2 really doesn't look like it offers much more then the iPad 1
Yes it is thinner/lighter, yes it has two cameras, and yes it now has a dual core processor....but the main reason I gravitate towards the Adam is the fact is offers most of that along with more consumer friendly inputs/outputs, a physical design that will be easier to hold, and of course Honeycomb which offers so much more for me over the Apple OS 4.3
iPad 2
I agree the only thing I like about the iPad 2 is the cover, which if I am honest really is brilliant in its simplicity, utility, and awesomeness. Other than that...
Still, I am not sure which device best fits my needs (I just know I want to support small innovators) My problem is that I am a grad student who is trying to go paperless. I try and read my articles, grade my papers and read my news on a monitor, and it might be nice to have something that I could hold rather than put on my lap.
Also pretty sure that 7 inches is just too small (maybe 10 is too big) who knows...I wish there were more brick and mortar stores where I could try them out.
The Xoom is available to try out at best buy. So you could at least get an idea of what 10inch's is like as well as Honeycomb vs. the Apple OS.
The LG Optimus Pad and supposedly a new Galaxy Tab are coming out with 8.9inch screens.
If you are focusing on the Adam for its Pixel Qi screen for reading I would research more reviews on how it does indoors vs. outdoors. I opted to order the LCD version only since I don't plan on using it as an e-reader or for outdoor purposes. I mainly want it to replace my personal laptop that i lug around whenever I travel just to check email/surf the web/ and watch movies.
I ordered mine feb 5 and received it yesterday if it helps any.

I consider that good news for 9th orders. Means that the promised 3rd March shipping date is still realistic.
Edit: Actually, bad news. Means I'll have to start checking the pre-order site multiple times a day now out of sheer compulsive curiousity.

My Feb 9th order has shipped
I realize that Notion is a small company, but how can they think they will stay in business when people can't figure out how to order or have to wait a ton?
I like the idea of the Adam, but not the idea of waiting to pre-order then waiting a month or more for my unit.
So is it worth the wait?
Depends on what your needs/wants are in a tablet.
I came to the decision of handing my money over to Notion Ink instead of any other company for the following reasons:
- 2 x Full USB 2.0 Ports
- Tegra 2
- 6 Physical Buttons (4 on the face, Back button and Power button on the side)
- Full HDMI Out
- Ergonomical Design
- Promise of Honeycomb
- $425 price tag
I too am wondering if this tablet is worth the wait. I ordered mine Feb 14 and I am tired of waiting. My original estimated ship date was now pushed back to 3/3-3/10. This is insane. I have no idea how these guys intend to run a successful company doing business like this. This is absolutely unacceptable. If this estimated ship date is pushed back one more time I am going to cancel my order. And if they give me any sh*t going that route I'll simply refute the charges and let my AMEX deal with this B.S.
Of course, I hope I don't have to go that route and I hope I will receive an email shortly telling me my Adam has shipped. I really want this device but refuse to wait around like a scorned lover begging for attention. I'm paying good money. It's not like I won this thing in a contest and am waiting on them to ship one once they have extras. This is INSANE!!!
I bought the Adam because of the reasons I posted above. No other company is putting a tablet out that offers the same functionality.
With that said....
There is a BIG reason why they are calling this a "PRE-ORDER". They are a small company, they did not have the money and means to start mass producing these. But from what we read from Rohan they are growing quickly and starting to strategically plan for a larger roll out that also includes better support.
Adam is their first product, they are dedicating resources towards designing the next one. This kind of innovation is a beautiful thing. I don't understand how people "expect" this ordering experience to be similar to that of purchasing an Apple or Motorola product.
What are the price-points of the various options?
My friend and I both just recently signed up for pre-orders but who knows when the next batch will roll out....just trying to plan ahead!
Thanks.
Of course I wouldn't expect it to be like buying an Apple or Moto product. The surprising part is their website is a little too filled with mystery. The tech audience in general is not a patient bunch and signing up for unknown pre order dates and long waits wont fly with everyone. For their own sake I hope they can step up production a bit. I do believe their pricing is very good from what I could find but having to google them vs being front and center on their site is kinda lame.

I bought one there a few days ago and had BB adjust the price today.
This tablet is a sleeper currently. Folks seem to just pass by anything that isn't a Nexus, Samsung, or Ipad. I bet the price will soon hit what the new Nexus 7 is going for, I will keep my eyes peeled and get a further adjustment if that happens. Lots of price wars happening with Microsoft and android tablets lately.
Good thought on watching the price and having them adjust for any drop. I grabbed two, one white from my local Best Buy and one black from one across town. I'd been thinking I wanted black since my current/previous tablets have been black (or dark gray in a few cases), but the white one does look pretty slick, so I might try that for once. I'll obviously cancel/return the one I don't keep.

I'm liking it so far. No hot buttons currently and I think it is a sleeper currently for price and quality right now. The Nexus 7 is very good, I have one but 16:10 aspect ratio on a 7 inch is tough for me to tell the truth.
No lag with games, videos don't buffer, web browsing is fine, reading on it is very good. SOLD!!!
Just sold an iPhone 5 I had for $220 so Im waiting for any Christmas sales. Will have about $330 by Christmas so Im just watching:laugh: out for any good deals.
I bought one at BB today myself... Having some drinks waiting on the first 100% Charge.... Returned my Nexus 7 2013 for this puppy.. I think this is the *Perfect* size for a Tablet.

Yeah, I think I'm inclined to agree after playing with it for a few hours. This is a really great device! I rooted it and restored apps and data from my Nook HD+ using TiBu. Very responsive in everything I've thrown at it so far. Great deal at $280 (wish I'd gotten the NewEgg deal earlier this week though!).

I seen that deal also Wells.. but I rather buy at a Brick & Mortar.. I had a situation where a Asus HD 7 freaked out and looped doing an update to the latest firmware 5 minutes out of the box.. the turn around for refund or replacement would have been over a week if I purchased it through Newegg.. As it was, I just walked it into Walmart and got my Cash back.. So, I for one don't mind at all paying the $30.00 difference to avoid the headache of returning an item such as this should I have an issue.. My unit has fully charged while typing this and I've just powered it up for the 1st time.. and it's FABULOUS..
Thanks for this post! Mine is slated to arrive Tuesday from Best Buy Online. I will contact them today to see if I can get a $20 credit since I paid 299. I posted this in the accessories page ...

you guys might appreciate it as well. So that you don't waste as much time as I have researching official accessories as seen in the hands-on reviews from certain websites, I can assure you that the official accessories like the dock and the quick cover are not yet available in the US even though they appear on the LG US website. I just spent a hell of a lot of time on the phone with LG trying to show them that their own website lists the items complete with full instructions on how to use them. I finally got someone to admit that the products are not available in the United States at this time. I picked up an Asus cover on Amazon that will work with the LG.

Which Asus cover works with the G Pad?
I too ordered one. I missed the Newegg one thought I would just wait one more day lol, one day to late. The taxes from Bestbuy gets it up to $300. Still good price. Going to test it against the HP Slate8 pro. At 1st I really liked the HP (Tegra 4) yet the speakers at the bottom portrait mode I cant tell ever if its stereo. Then way to many times it gets sluggish. The only thing I can relate to this is on my PC many years ago when running to many apps it would be swapping memory you get that lag.
I did try the EVGA note. Was nice yet the battery life is very short. Then on the HP running things wow the higher rez really made some apps and games look so much better. Battery life on the HP is really good. I really loved the Kendal HDX speakers. So all I need is a tab with kendal speakers, a stylus, 32gb + 2ram and I will be happy.

unfortunately, none of them. It's the Asus 8 inch Note tablet cover that is being listed as completely compatible with the LG Gpad 8.3. However, I ordered a white one twice now from two different companies on Amazon and both times my order was cancelled because they are out of stock. You can probably get it in a different color or maybe black, but I'm holding out for white. Just a search on Amazon and it will come right up.
"VSTN LG G Pad 8.3 Multi-Stand PU Leather Cover Case with Hand Strap&Card Holder (For LG G Pad 8.3, White)"
I picked one up on on the 7th after missing out on the newegg $249 deal. I also used my amex $25 off $250 so that helped cover the tax. If it drops in price before the extended holiday return period (almost a certainty) I'll get that as well. Now I just need to decide if I'm going to return the N7 32G I picked up last week for $209. The overall dimensions for the 2 are pretty close but the screen size is the reason I got the G Pad.

Well some of us jumped on the G Pad but to tell the truth there is just no visibility with this device. All BB stores in my area don't have one on display and unless one is savvy, you wouldn't even know they carried it.
And I'm unsure what other big box retailers carry it either where you can just walk in and buy it. This may or may not hurt with a price drop in the near future. If the manufacturer monitors sales, I don't no how they can expect much more without the product being more visible to the public. A shame really cause it blows away much of what is out there currently available!

I wouldn't have bought one with being able to try it out beforehand. The closest BB didn't carry it but one not too far away supposedly had them in inventory. When I went I naturally went to where the tablets were and it was nowhere to be found. I asked a sales associate and they said they don't carry it I mentioned that BB online shows they have them so he dug a bit deeper and found out they have them over in the mobile department. It makes no sense to me since it's currently WiFi only but there it was with the LG phones.
Looks like Best Buy is running the $100 trade in program again. I took advantage of this when I got my N9.... I wonder if they aren't selling well enough?
Even though they have this going on, none of the stores by me have any in stock and it's been that way for a while.

There's like 10 Bestbuys within 30 miles of me and none have any white ones in stock. Neither the 16gb or 32gb.
The 16gb Black looks to be the most plentiful.

Yup, I went to BB the other day to trade my original N9 in and they had two 32gb black, zero white and about 20 16gb black.
I don't see white ones in stock at any BB in my area (Central Texas).
I did this a couple of weeks ago. I traded in my 8gb 2012 Nexus 7 (normally they would only give $10 for this), and was able to get a 32 gb Nexus 9.
I did run into an issue where the Nexus 9 wasn't in stock and the $50 coupon is for in-store use only. When they went to order it for me, their system wouldn't take the coupon and they told me coupon could only be used in the store. I reminded them that we were in the store having this conversation. The manager ended up "taking care of it", and knocked $50 off of the price.
Terms and Conditions for Tablet Trade-In with Purchase of Google Nexus 9 Tablet
Valid 11/23/14–11/29/14. Coupon redemption valid through 12/06/14. In store only. Get a minimum $50 gift card for trade-in of any working tablet. Excludes the Barnes and Noble Nook and e-readers.

ive read on the best buy forums there have been mixed results on doing this in store with random tablets because they are not in the system. i have read that people who complain on the best buy forum, and with an admin/ cs rep responding, will get success because apparently the rep is contacting the store directly to have them push the trade in through.
i love my launch day moto xoom but love the nexus 9 a bit more ..
To bad it's already over
Google is offering a 25% discount off the Pixel C for developers. You can read about it here, and sign up for it here.
I signed up and got a code several hours afterwards.
Give it a shot...

I'm not gonna lie, as a day 1 adopter, this kind of breaks my balls. Those of us here who dealt with problems with the touchscreen and wifi since release should be receiving this "developer" discount, as we were the ones that were basically beta testing this for Google. I feel somewhat betrayed for this, but I am also glad at the same time, as this should increase the adoption rate of what has turned out to be an amazing tablet.
Sadly this is only for the USA. Too bad for the rest of us

Damn, that's a proper kick to the family jewels...
I bought the Pixel C two weeks ago. I called and got an RMA and ordered it again. Saved me $150.
Nexus products always go on sale a few months after release. If you want a brand new Nexus when it first comes out, you pay a premium. This is the case with most electronics anyways.
I'm getting my Pixel C delivered Tuesday
I really want to buy it.. but every single tablet I have bought I rarely use them (nexus 7 1st and 2nd gen, lg g pad)
I'm not sure if the Pixel C would be any different.. decisions decisions
To those of you who've received the discount: how do they decide whether or not you're a developer? And how long did it take for you to receive the code? I've written simple apps, but never published anything.

Don't think they did any checks I don't have a developer account with google (although I've done a few off playstore apps) I got mine within 30 minutes after submitting the request.

Thanks. Just got mine.
For reference: I don't live in the US, and my Google account is not registered there. I used a VPN to register for the code, and I plan to have it sent to relatives in the US and have them forward it to me.

I think you don't need a VPN. I got a code without it but can't use it I don't have any relative in the US so I can't buy it with the code. Still waiting that G extend the promotion...

i would think you would just need an u.s. address with someone who would forward it. personally, i think the developer for N preview thing is somewhat of a guise just to help boost sales without overtly offending those who spent full price on tablet. i have not seen google do a 25% off sale 90 days post release. The recent Christmas promotions did not go to 25% did they?
For info, it's also available for UK and for Ireland, Australia (and somewhere else I can't remember). I'm UK and received my code a few hours after application. There's no check, it's just an offer based around the fact this is a dev device like the Pixels. Unfortunately, el goog have moved away from low price offerings to the faithful (and early) adopter, especially abroad. The N6P went with $50 play credit in the US and nothing elsewhere. Part of me sees this Pixel C discount as some reparation to the lack of pre-order Nexus love.
Ramble over, apologies!
Any word if discount codes are still being sent out? I signed up for one today (Saturday), just curious if I should expect to get one still or not.

I took advantage of this deal and still feel like it is overpriced at $400 for the 32gb considering its being marketed to developers as a quasi nexus but then we are punished for unlocking the bootloader with 30 second warnings on start...
I'm building aosp for it right now hopefully I can get $400 worth of fun out of it somehow

Do you guys think, since the discount was expanded to UK, Australia and so on that there is a chance Google will expand it even further, to maybe other countries in europe?

It was extended only to English speaking countries so it seems unlikely to me
I just came across this deal with Bestbuy. It would lower the month rate for the 128gb version by $4.17 per month. Nothing be done or traded in. Still have the option for up to $300 on a trade in.

S8 S8+ and Note 8 are $250 off though.....in Bestbuy
I did this. No problems at all. Happy to get away from an LG G5 and to the Pixel 2.
Thanks for posting this! Think I'll be headed over to best buy today, was going to jump on the Pixel 2 anyway, I'll take the extra $100 break. Wish my Nexus 6 was trade in eligible.

according to Google, your phone is worth $70 for trade in (although, $100 off at best buy is better). on swappa, it's going for $135+
Interesting thanks for the info. I'll have to check out swappa!
FYI my local best buy didn't have stock on the Pixel 2. They got 2 in (yes two) and they were sold before they ever hit the floor with no ETA for more. Gave up and went to the Verizon store and they had plenty. Paid more but have a shiny new phone now. They said no trade value for the Nexus 6.

interesting. wish you did not boot up... folks on the other thread are trying to see if you can unlock the bootloader by leaving the SIM card OUT before the initial boot.
personally, I plan on waiting until black friday/cyber monday to see if the price drops to something more reasonable.
The Verizon person powered the unit up in the store, though I'm not worried about unlocking the bootloader myself. The email app I have to use for work checks for a rooted/unlocked phone and locks me out if I'm using one. Sucks.
I did notice however that when I enabled the developer options in the phone settings there is a switch for "OEM Unlocking" in the developer menu and the switch is available, it's not greyed out. If unlocking didn't factory reset the phone I'd give it a shot but really don't want to set the phone up all over again if by some miracle it were to actually work.
I wanted to wait until black Friday too but my Nexus 6 was getting so laggy I couldn't handle it any more, it had to go. I will say I really love the Pixel 2 so far. Such a nice upgrade from old Shamu.

thanks for the feedback.
i called VZW today inquiring about any upcoming promos/black friday. rep claimed that he did not see/know of any aside from the $300 trade-in credit (which my phone is not one of).
he did offer to waive the activation/upgrade fee ($35), free shipping overnight, and honor the $100 gift card (which I think is only applicable to new lines). he mentioned there was a sale of $15/month on the XL that ended on the 9th, but could not re-enable it for me.
so I'm going to sit tight (not really, just getting antsy), and wait to see what promos come out on Black Friday.
also, he did say that the device comes with the bootloader unlocked - I reminded him what that meant, as most reps think that this means password locked or something - but he sounded very certain he understood what I was referring to - so this could be a good sign, but I'm not holding my breath.
from my understanding, unlocking the bootloader does NOT root the device, as root has not been established on this device (yet).
looks like the $100 off at best buy is gone.
just waiting for VZW black friday announcement. last year, they announced it on 11/4 - so this year could be on Friday, 11/3.
I keep checking google for any other promotions, but no dice.
so if anyone sees any deals, please post it here.

i didn't buy them.... but why wouldn't we believe it?
on a side note, was showing my kids all of those "iphone drop from 1000 feet tests", and it got me thinking....
maybe the manufacturers place such a high price tag on the phones when they first come out to make these folks think twice about trying to intentionally break the phone. then, once they've been out for several months, the price drops for those that are really interested in keeping the device rather than experimenting on them....
just a thought....

Well - of course it is too good to be true. Doesn't take much to figure that out. Why the hell would they sell a new phone at a loss instead of just canceling the preorder or returning it.

but you're 100% correct, check the reviews first.
