Was originally rooted, but I took the MF3 OTA update and, basically, I want to go "back" so I can try my luck at custom ROMs.
Long ago, before the first OTA update, I used the method found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261573
and it worked fine. Will there be a problem doing this again even if I now running the MF3?
My plan is to go back to stock, completely stock, then root and try some custom ROMs.
Is this possible?
You can't go back--sorry
Look thru the Q&A Section for MF3 threads and read up on it and progress

Nope, nothing you can do on MF3 at this time except root. I can tell you haven't read the available information about this, so I will suggest you go to the 'general" section and read the "pinned" threads. Q&A has some pinned threads that you need to read as well. Also read anything having to do with MF3 before you brick your phone. There is a method in development that might be a partial solution for people on MF3, but it's still in the works. There is more information about that in the "General" section as well. Good luck.
Wow, glad I asked!
I will go to the "general" section and read-up
Thank you very much
:good:
you will find quite a bit of info there--
Sorry that you see the same post from me everywhere but this needs to be said EVERYWHERE
On July 26, 2010, the United States Copyright Office announced a new exemption making it officially legal to root a device
The US government is ok with it so whats AT&T's problem ?!?!?!?

While that is completely true, it is not necessary in this thread. This thread is not a discussion on why the providers are trying to stop us from rooting our devices. This Is a help thread asking about going back to stock on MF3. They are 2 completely different topics. Please try to maintain the topic of discussion on any thread you stumble into. If you have trouble doing so, remember the rules.

That's exactly what I've been looking into as well. Just going back to stock. Even if it's MF3. Will there be any consequences if factory reset back to stock. I've been checking the threads and there is no definitive answer. Can anyone help.
There is no way to return to stock at this time.

@graydiggy do you know if on mf3, if you do a factory reset in the stock recovery will it reset your apps like you would normally expect from a factory reset? I don't have an i337 so I don't know what will happen.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I957 using xda app-developers app
If you don't have a I337,you are not on MF3.
What is expected is that it removes root and returns the device to factory settings. What has happened is that it has bricked the device in certain instances, on MF3.

If you cant find out how to root a the device than you probably shooting be attempting to root it at all. If that's what you mean by did it work for you.
Not to be mean but a huge clue/hint was given to you. Go back and look in the Q&A section. There is a sticky that can help.

Is there some way possible to fool odin into letting us downgrade similar to this? I did do a search regarding this. If there is a simple answer I and others would appreciate it. For those more with more knowledge then myself please inform.
It isn't Odin. It is a qfuse in the device itself.
Lookup Safestrap. The is a discussion thread in the general section.

I understand that. So are we saying that we would need a totally different bootloader to work with the current one? I'm a little lost and will reread the Safestrap discussion.
Downgrade from mf3 to the previous firmware? No. There currently is no successful way in doing so as of now as far as I'm aware of.

If I am correct it's because Odin doesn't recognize MF3. So my question is, why can't we fool odin to believe this is a i9505 or some other variant to initiate the odin reflash?
The qfuse is blown. This completely disables any other firmware from being flashed.

I understand that. However, if Best Buy can reflash MF3, could we not get our hands on this program and just re-engineer it? By "we", I mean people smarter then me.
The Basically, the new bootloader looks for a specific key. We don't have that key. If it is not present, it can't flash.

I am in the works of getting my hands on the program. My cousin works at BB in geeksquad. He is going to have me bring my laptop in and you know what happens then. I can't really say much else on the topic for security reasons. But, if we get the Odin files, at the least, we will have a way to recover from a bricked MF3 device.

I am sure people are hard at work figuring out methods of downgrading and creating MF3 unlocking/recoverys. However the firmwire update (as said above) is coded to disallow a majority of this and usually ends up bricking the device, as the bootloader becomes rigged in MF3. Until Samsung's releases official MF3 support for odin/kies, development will probably be slow. You'll have to stick to safestraping for now.

No. That is just an alert that you have done something to the software of the device. It is to say that your warranty is voided.

The custom sign is there because you've rooted it. I'm assuming you're MF3 so no you cannot downgrade to the previous firmwire as of now.

Both of you need to do a lot of searching and reading. Just minimum effort would have answered these questions and the next questions you will ask about the issues if you don't read. These issues have been covered MANY times.

You didn't fool Odin. It'll let you flash whatever you want. Most of the time that's a big mistake though and you end up with a brick. Only flash what's specific for your device.

This has already been discussed in detail, but because people won't read I'll say it again. The "SMART" program is a proprietary program that Samsung uses to complete an entire suite of tasks. One of those tasks is to re-flash the latest and current firmware to many Samsung phones. Each Samsung employee is assigned a unique password that is needed to access Samsung's servers for the needed firmwares. Each copy of the SMART program will only work on ONE PC once it is installed. The program is no good without server access and the firmware package it installs is no good without complete access to the SMART application. So you see, modifying the SMART application will do no good and accessing Samsung's servers without a functional SMART application will also do no good. Not to mention it is completely illegal to modify a proprietary program or access Samsung's servers without consent. If you did get a hold of the program and was able to install it on your PC, AND, you had access to a working password, it would still only work from that PC for a short period of time until Samsung disabled it.

If you had searched (and done a minimum amount of reading) you would have found that this subject has already been covered. Your laziness does not make me a ****. Start following the XDA rules and guidelines before you call others names. When you made this thread, a list of "similar topics" was also offered to you. You clearly ignored those as well. The others poster's comments about the "SMART" program were already covered also. I was still nice enough to take my time and repeat that information again.
You are not above the XDA rules and are expected to follow them the same as everyone else. I agreed to this when I made a user account, as did you. If having this pointed out to you pisses you off, you might want to find a place with different rules and expectations where people that follow the rules are considered "dicks". I would suggest "Facebook" or "Twitter".
I'm getting quite frustrated with Xda these days it used to be that the moderators would post stickys of [ROOT]. Not anymore I see. I know there is a thread out there detailing how to flash 4.3 then root then re flash stock kitkat. But I've been searching about 30 min now and can't find it again. Will someone help me to find this thread? Or maybe just maybe a moderator could actually be useful and do as they used to and post it as a sticky.
