Cannot install recovery. - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So at this point in the night, I have gone through most every way to install a customer recovery. I have been through the basic click and watch methods and the ADB manual methods. Something must have gone wrong with my initial attempt as the TWRP installer was giving me plenty of weird responses (skipping steps, steps out of order, failing but still continuing). Once I finally got a full beginning to end install on the automated method I restarted the phone to just have it post some very small white text about "certification verify" and then a black screen. Hard reset after a few minutes and all was fine. Tried a few more methods to get into recovery and it started a fastboot screen that gave plenty of errors whenever I attempted to connect to it (also would attempt to mount 20 or so storage devices). Now it has landed back to the certification verify error with the black screen. I need to get back to factory without recovery and the only guide I found was referencing downloads on a page that was over it's bandwidth cap. Anyone been able to get out of a similar situation that can help? Going to sleep for the night so won't be able to respond until tomorrow after work.

Anyone? My phone is still usable but my recovery mode is nonexistent.

Thanks, this was actually the post that I found originally that the OP's bandwidth cap had been reached. Giving the guide a go now.
EDIT: Works now. Went through the LG Flash Tools (came from Samsung devices, ODIN was easier to me). Now this time I went ahead and rooted then installed TWRP. Working like a charm.

Grouper bricked after latest 4.3 OTA, no recovery

Heya...
On my 16GB Grouper I had installed the stock rooted 4.3 rom. Yesterday a system OTA update message appeared on my screen - 1.7 MB. I let it download and install over night and just went to bed. Came back in the morning to a boot loop where the device got stuck with the four colorful thingies animation. I can access the bootloader, but the recovery seems to be broken. Can't remember if I had anything other than the stock one... Anyways, now I'm strugling to get this thing going again. I am a zero at ADB but willing to learn whatever is necessary to get me started with a working recovery at least. No tool root box will do anything really for me...
Thanks for your help in advance
Hey!
Had a problem just like yours. If your running windows then install this program its called nexus tool kit. I'm a newbie here but if you Google 'nexus toolkit wug fresh' you can find it
All you need to do is plug your device in and open the program, then select flash OTA with the boot loop option and then follow the on screen instructions
That should put you back to normal with a fresh start meaning all you data will be lost. You can also root from there to.

Yeah. It would be dumb to actually learn what you are doing to your device. You should totally use a toolkit.

Thank you guys. You might not believe it, but I'm not a newb to Android or flashing. It's just that I've always been playing around with Samsung devices and there you'd normaly turn to Odin in case something went wrong. Here it's different.
Anyways, with this comprehensive guide I've been able to reflash a recovery image and my old rom. Unfortunately losing all of my data in the process, but there was no way to save it.

[Q] Help - GS4 - Even Best Buy could not Flash

Hello All,
I am quite new to the world of Android, but have searched and read up for multiple days on this site before finally posting my issue.
I have a GS4 that had been running stock with the MF3 OTA update. I finally decided to root and install safestrap to mess with a few custom roms. Everything went well. I was able to create a Rom Slot and load a custom rom for testing whilst keeping my stock in original form. NO issues what so ever. I used the Wicked Rom.... Eventually I decided that I would delete Rom Slot 1 and go back to stock. I followed directions to the T, deleted the slot and selected to boot from Stock. NO GO. This is where the horror begins:
Now, the phone boots up but I see the Samsung Galaxy S4 logo and it stays there...does not go back. I no longer see the SafeStrap recovery screen when booting up. --- I cannot even get into recovery on the phone any longer: it says recovery booting in blue and stays there.
I am able to get into Download mode to re-flash - but naturally none of the stock firmware files are loadable via Odin due to an error I keep getting NAND Flash! (Fail).
I finally decided to drive to Best Buy and asked the guy to flash my phone to stock there. He put the phone in download mode and used their multiflash tool which did not detect the phone and thus he could not move forward. The laptop did detect the phone at best buy, but their software did not and thus flashing did not occur.
I am looking for any and all advice to get this phone running without having to return it to Samsung....please and thanks in advance.
My apologies if my search did not yield a positive result and there is something out there....
Well There is no way to flash with Odin while on MF3, so that effort is completely fruitless at this time. Did the guy try a different USB port, cord or even restarting the computer he was using?
Can you get into your recovery to do a factory reset?

Best buy should be able to do it. I remember reading somewhere that someone had to go to 3 different stores before they found someone smart enough to do it.. Lol
Sent from my SGH-I337 using XDA Premium HD app
I cannot get into recovery at all, it just says recovery booting and sits there....recovery booting is displayed at the top left of the screen in blue.
The guy did not try a different port or reboot. When he plugged the phone in, in download mode, the computer did recognize the phone but his Samsung software did not.

Well he is an idiot for not troubleshooting his system. I have had the same exact thing happen with multiple different computers and phones. The computer detects the device correctly, but the program I needed to use would not. More often than anything a quick changing of ports or a reboot of the computer fixed it. I have had to completely wipe out the drivers a few times and reinstall them to get it to work. 9 times out of ten, it is not the phone that is the culprit, it is something else before the phone.

FIXED
Well it seems the guy at my best buy was a TOOL! I took the phone in again today, had the battery pulled before I arrived - put it in download mode for him. Told him that Samsung tech support said he should reboot his pc. He did. Voila, reflashed to stock. Thank goodness....thank you guys for the advice.
Apply cold water directly to burned area.
Who's awesome?
ME!
Anyways, glad you are back up.

How the hell did you brick it? Give us some more background on what tweaks, root methods, flashing recovery methods did you use or else its hard to diagnose the issue.

ok. i was on stock. rooted with the IO method. wanted to flash a ROM (clean rom). downloaded ROM, wipe dalvik/cache/data. after reboot, phone booted into recovery mode. tried going into download mode to revert back to stock and LG FlashTool failed. said phone was the wrong model number (D802). the ROM i Downloaded said it was for VZW G2. obviously it wasnt. so i finally ended up using fastboot to push boot image and it booted, but in about phone, it says it D802 model (i just got it to boot, where as before i was stuck in fastboot mode). now i need to return to stock, but dont know how. any ideas?

yes. not sure why its doing that. is there any way that download mode can be deleted from the phone? also, how do you get into fastboot mode?
EDIT: nevermind. i finally got it into download mode!! (thank god!!) flashing right now. damn that was a pain in the ass. i was starting to freak out that i messed up my phone. this is my first LG phone so this process is a little new to me (been on moto for the last few years) thanks for trying to help me out. this was def a learning experience.

Just a quick question. Why would you even need to go into download mode to flash a Rom? Never once have I done that. Really, just curious.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.

I was thinking the same thing. It's best to stay out of those modes. Get a recovery installed ASAP and do everything that you need to do from there. I recommend TWRP Recovery.
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Maybe because when flashing stock rom download mode is needed (atleast in my old sammy phone, maybe same in moto phones)
What's wrong with restoring the backup of the stock rom that should have been made before wiping and flashing a different rom? Not sure what I'm missing here.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
Download mode is useful to flash the entire phone back to stock using the OEM tools. It's not just for the stock ROM. It's everything. It's useful if you get a bit carried away in TWRP and wipe partitions you really shouldn't be touching. Or if you somehow manage to bork your recovery, or at least can't get into it. It's also good if you want your phone to be completely stock to sell it or to send it in on warranty. I'm sure someone could come up with other scenarios where it's useful.
But yes, it is a good idea to keep a backup of your stock ROM. And as always, know what you're flashing, make sure it's for your phone and check md5s. And be mindful of what you're doing in recovery. You should be able to avoid most issues. Download mode is indeed something you shouldn't be using often but as I said above there are situations where it is useful or necessary. It's actually something I suggest you know how to use. I say it's always a good idea to know how to get back to complete stock for warranty stuff, selling, or if something just goes majorly wrong.
The Rom I was trying to flash was apparently for a different model number, yet it was under the Verizon thread. There was no md5 to cross reference. In the end I ended up finding the proper boot image/twrp files and pushed them via fastboot (since I was unable to use adb) which then allowed more to restore a backup of the original Rom. Just took me all night to finally get back to stock. Then I decided to restore to out-of-the-box stock just to make sure all files weren't corrupted our anything.

You can you adb side load which is the same for flashing rom, pushing, or pulling file from the phone which is the first thing to learn before flashing anything to the new device that you got and know nothing about.

So confused now... Bricked? Not bricked? Please help?

OK, so here is the current situation. I've been searching, reading, and following different recovery procedures, but nothing seems to be working as it should, so now I'm posting here to get some guidance as to how to proceed.
I have a Verizon VS980. I had Malladus ROM 1.2.4 with furnace 0.1.0 kernel installed. I have Philz Touch recovery. I wanted to try out Sliding Lockscreen, but when I got installed and tried to reboot, my phone went into a boot loop. I booted to recovery and tried to restore a backup, but it said it couldn't find any backups... although I did have backups. This is when I started getting confused. I tried wiping cache and dalvik, no effect. I read through a bunch of threads here, tried a bunch of things that worked for other people, etc. Finally said screw it and did a factory reset through Philz. No joy. Tried several different methods to revert to stock. No joy. Oy vey.
So now the bottom line is it only gets to the LG screen with the LED doing its color changing thing, and thats it. Stops there. I CAN boot to Philz Touch recovery by power+vol. down, go through the factory hard reset menu, then it gets to Philz. Now, there has got to be a way to regain my phone from here. Like I said, I tried the 2 different methods to revert to stock... I can get all the way to the point it supposed to start flashing the stock ROM with the tot file method, but it just doesn't start flashing the ROM when its supposed to. Is there a way I can get a ROM from my computer to the phone? When I enter download mode (vol. up while plugging in USB), it says updating firmware, warns not to unplug while its updating, but its not doing anything at all, and at the bottom of the screen in a box it says something like "b100" in the top left corner of the box, and "ROOTED" in red letters at the bottom.
So, what in sam hell is going on with my phone, and how do I fix it? Is there a way to get either the stock ROM or Malladus from my computer to the phone so I can re-flash? I'm thinking thats all I need to do to get out of this.
Please... someone help a totally confused and now smartphone deprived guy? Please?
Dude, are u running the flash tool on pc while trying to flash stock rom? Just booting into download mode won't help. Or u can transfer a rom to a USB drive, connect it to ur mobile via OTG cable and then flash the rom via recovery

I was able to revert to stock. After stepping away from the computer and phone, taking a cig break and a few deep breaths, I reread the tot revert instructions for 127th time. Found my mistake... I kept forgetting to change the com port to 41. Did that, revert worked just like it was supposed to for people who are not blind idiots who miss crucial little tidbits like that. I can't believe I kept missing that. COM Port 41 is ingrained in my memory forever. I may have to get a tattoo of it now.
I went so crazy trying to find the solution (yeah, didn't think of a flash drive either) because I was so determined not to have to resort to posting in the forum. The moment I give up... boom, I figure it out. Live and learn.....
Well, on to re-rooting the phone, re-flashing Malladus, and re-downloading all my crap...
Lol, happy to know that ur phone is back working, cheers mate

PLEASE someone help me... I cant believe this is happening

Ok so i just bought a new lg g2 d801.
I unlocked it succesfully, then went on to root it succesfully using ioroot.
Then I tried installing twrp using freegee and it didnt work giving me comparable results to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50501346&postcount=867
so I went on to install it manually from terminal emulator (I installed the rogers version as suggested by another user here as this is exactly my situation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50502408&postcount=869
I followed this method for the code in terminal emulator:
su
dd if=/sdcard/recoveryfilename.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
replacing "recoveryfilename" to the name of the rogers .img.
Now the phone just boots normally into the stock interface but it is all glitchy, no wifi, computer doesnt recognize it and then within about 1 minutes it boots into the lg logo with the "turning on" sound randomly and keeps doing that.
adb devices gives nothing. I cant browse the contents of it but it does seem to be interacting with the computer since it is saying "driver updating... etc."
Ahhhh not too sure what to do from here.
If anyone can guide me I will be infinitely grateful, so discouraged right now.
I just want to bring it back to stock, nothing valuable at all on it, I have had it for 4 hours.
U can do a factory reset and see how it goes. Go to settings > general> backup and reset> factory reset.
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I cant access any settings.
Just says: Error
In a little black box. I can browse the menus but cant actually enter into the specific settings areas.
I did factory reset from twrp which is accesible, didnt help.
Thank you though, I would love more ideas!
In that case u should flash stock rom using a computer. Go through this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476

I actually didnt even sleep last night. Havent done that in a long time, I figured I would manage to figure out by morning but I was not even close!
Much love to all who helped.
Hopefully this works.:good:
Actually I have a question... In your link they are using .tot files. I have only ever seen .kdz files for this purpose... Am I safe to follow the procedure with a stock .kdz file?
Thanks
Ok so I have managed to succesfully reinstall the original exact videotron firmware that the phone was running just one day ago.
There is something else going on. Its still rebooting every 10 seconds, whenever there is a text input prompt the cursor goes when I press within the box but the keyboard never appears. Wifi is non functional. Imei is saying "null" now whichI find extremely worrying...
Anybody heard of this before? I would really love to understand what is happening to this seemingly incredibly fragile phone.
Im about ready to toss it in the trash.
It seems like it has a virus or something.
Every now and then during the short glimpses of functioning it undergoes, there is a small grey box that appears near the bottom that says error.
It is not recognising my sim card either.
Please somebody help me out, I am willing to pay for help at this point.
Much love,
Zach
Also, I can never close/lock the screen. If I close it, its a guaranteed reboot. Every signle time. so for the phone to work screen has to stay on. 24 hours ago it was showing absolutely no signs of any of this
