[Q] GS4 Sprint Newest Radio - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hello All,
I've tried searching quite a few times over the weeks and I'm having difficulty locating any sort of radio update files for the Sprint GS4.
I constantly have issues with my phone reconnecting back to the network. To be honest, I switched from an Evo 4G LTE (On sprint) which connected beautifully to both 3G and LTE networks. Once I got the Samsung it was complete ****.
I've searched this forum and Google for Radio updates in regards to the GS4 and i haven't come up with much in the past few months I've owned this device. I've tried the OTA PRL and Profile (not sure if that's correct, but I'm rooted and will not do an OTA Samsung Software or Firmware Update).
Any clues?
Thanks!

I've read about MK2 and it was referred to as the "modem" is that what the term is rather than Radio?
Thanks for the info!

I flashed the moderm on the link above and it borked my wifi. Had to flash the MJA tar and download the original MK2 update to upgrade to it. phone is working just fine.

yes modems are what is commonly used. then firmware is the second term.

Yeah, I also came from a phone world where it was always "radio".

Where can I find the latest radio update? I tried clicking the links in the th3fallen's thread on rooting the Nexus One, but they just take me directly to www.modaco.com. Help is appreciated, thanks!

I'd stick with the OTA update and its radio update. There aren't any benefits with the unreleased radio update.

What are the supposed benefits, im still on the OTA ERE27, i keep hearing lots of reports of reception problems with ERE36

That's my point... there's a reason ERE36B hasn't been released OTA yet. Skip it.
I had ERE36B and I had issues. Wifi kept giving me a connection error if I left wifi range and returned. My 3G wasn't as stable. I went back to ERE27 and had no more issues.
My personal experience is that the reception problems are present in ERE27 and ERE36B. But, I just pull the *#*#4636#*#* menu and set it for 3G only. I have 3G everywhere I go, so it works for me. And, I do get faster data with ERE36B.
I got no connection problems at all ...
Have 4.03.00.21_2 (I think it´s not the newest radio though..)
Edit: jst updated to latest one, found at modaco site..
Another Thread?
Well, the newest radio is EPE54B or something like that..
but it's the same as ERE36B
Apparently the AT&T N1's come with the latest leaked radio...EPE54B.
so does that mean that my tmobile nexus one will be getting a radio update soon?

Recieved ICS OTA to 9020A - Getting No Service

I received the OTA for ICS today, and it updated without any problems like some are having. However, since receiving the update, I get NO SERVICE most places. I'll occasionally show 1 bar of service and at that point SMS will come flooding through and send out. I have a 9020A and i'm wondering if they didn't change the radio to the T-Mobile version. Is anyone else having similar issues? I plan on possibly flashing a different radio to the phone when i get home (i'm currently at work)
I'm kinda going nuts. I only recently went to this from an I9000. I haven't even rooted it or flashed any roms. It was entirely stock. I'm admittedly a novice with this phone. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Model: 9020A
Android - 4.0.3
Carrier - Immix Wireless
Baseband - NO DGSXXKI1
Build - IML74K
Kernel - 3.0.8-gb55e9ac [email protected] #1
And why didn't you grab a link before you ran the update? My guess says is you got a failed update and need to reapply.
I'm a noob to all this BUT at the very least I can tell you that you need to flash a different radio since "Baseband - NO DGSXXKI1" indicates a radio that is not going to work.
Is this a troll
Did we just get trolled? Dude that's so cruel.
Grab the radio here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884 and flash it with fastboot. That should get you the proper radio and get your phone back in working order...

I used that guide as a referemce:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396937
You will have to re-flash a radio, if you paid attention, you probably saw a line about flashing a new radio during the process.
Flashing a radio is a quick and painless process if you have the SDK with fastboot installed. (Newer version on Mac doesn't include fasttboot, you have to get it on top of it)
Here's the link to the Radios:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
I suggest you look for your carrier, you might found people recommending different radio for different speed/reception. Get one radio, flash it, test speed and signal and find the one that works best.
You should be all set with those links.
Thanks everyone, I'll try this out in a bit and get back to you. I never read anything about flashing a radio. Again, I got the ota directly from Google... At least wifi is working.

I guess i know why now. shouldnt be much longer if the just have to package the proper radio. cross your fingers

[Q] Update to 4.3?

Hey guys
So I have had my S4 for a while now, I used the CF Autoroot to flash the MF9 stock firmware from this website: http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SPH-L720.
Then I installed the TWRP and was able to do a few mods.....
So now, I'm pretty much clueless on if I should or shouldn't update to 4.3.... Is there any radical changes? Should I wait for 4.4?
If I were to update, how would I do so since I don't see the firmware listed on the samsung-updates website?
Thanks

Think it through....if you update with the leak, it will be permanent for now. No downgrading back to 4.2, im noticing weaker reception. Im sure alot of other users may or may not be experiencing all the same issues. I wouldnt do it if i was you.

sorry to hijack this thread..
I'm on 4.2.2 and every time i try and apply the 4.3 update, all i get is my teamwin boot loader coming up. Can I apply it manually in there or do i need to odin something?
Only mod i have is the bootloader and wifihotspot hack.

You can't apply the update if anything in the system has been modified (hot-spot mod) and you must be on the stock recovery. You can odin the full mf9 tar file and then apply the update or try one of the MJA roms and firmware that don't install the new bootloader.

I think I've read that you have to be on the stock recovery to be able to install the update (I assume you're on TWRP).
Anyone know if someone's working on the update without the knox bootloader?
Anyone try to update only the modem and seen any changes/improvements to the reception?
thanks guys, looks like 4.3 is so new i'll wait for a downloadable update.zip that i can use TWRP with. I'm in no hurry.

LYZ28E (T-Mobile image) radio is MDM9625_104649.09.05.14R
LMY47D (Verizon OTA) radio is MDM9625_104446.01.02.98R
And the previous builds have even lower build numbers. Pretty sure the T-Mobile image/OTA radio is newer. Not that that makes it necessarily better, to be sure.
So this isn't specific to Tmobile? - Been waiting for this for AGES!!

I can only judge by the filename
LYZ28E: radio-shamu-d4.01-9625-05.14+fsg-9625-02.93
LMY47I: radio-shamu-d4.0-9625-02.95
LMY47E: radio-shamu-d4.0-9625-02.98 (This was the Verizon Build)
LMY47D: radio-shamu-d4.0-9625-02.95
While the LMY47x Builds have a radio image of 83.4MB, the LYZ28E Radio is "only" 65.9MB
Not sure whether something missing or new compression algorithm
I'm just wondering where the open international images are at. Isn't very nexus for a us carrier to get them first.

I was wondering the same thing since all Nexus are the same. I am guessing that WiFi calling only works for T-Mobile so any other prepaid carrier that tries to use WiFi calling won't work, and since Google doesn't want any confusion they release it for only Tmo

Cell sig problem

I have a 64gig 6P on T-Mobile. I don’t know when the issue started, I use the phone as part of the digits program, but the cell signal is constantly dropping. It rotates through LTE, 3G, H then drops and starts over again in a few min. My S7 sitting next to it stays on LTE with no issue.
I thought it was a digits program beta issue so swapped sim cards. Did not help
I was on the android beta program, so took the device off and did a full reset with no additional apps installed. Did not help.
I did a search on the forum and the only advise I can find is to flash an older radio, but I haven’t read anywhere that this helped.
Has anyone found a way to fix this?
Phone is currently stock, non rooted, on 7.1.1 with march update and warranty just expired...
Thanks

Baseband version 03.81 came with 7.1.2 and is available in the forums. 03.79 was intended for Verizon devices, but I used it on AT&T until 03.81 came out. Have you tried a different APN or modifying your APN. T-Mo has many. I would also try using a different carrier SIM, preferrably a non-MVNO. I've seen a lot of T-Mo users complaining on XDA of constant signal drops, cycling and having to reboot the phone to get it to reconnect to LTE. I hear you with the S7 comparison, but I'm still suggesting you try a different carrier SIM to rule out a hardware issue, which it could be.

Both a new radio and bootloader came with the new 7.1.2 image, but it is also available in General. There is a dedicated thread there. If you don't intend on updating to 7.1.2, I'd suggest you download both the baseband (03.81) and bootloader (03.67) and fastboot flash them. If you don't like it, you just flash back.

Question have you updated carrier services in the play store?

Yep, everything is updated. Taking off the beta program again to try. Turns out my warranty runs out in April. So going to try to have it fixed under warranty...
Huawei is going to repair or replace it under warranty. I'll post on if this fixed the issue in a week or two.
Guys I am having the same issue. My Nexus 6P went out of warranty this Feb. I flashed 3.72, 3.75 and 3.79 but the issue still persists. I am on AT&T. Has anyone had any success with the newest Radio?

No, but it only takes a minute to try it out. If it doesn't work for you, just flash back to the radio that matches your bootloader. Like many have said the answer is not going to be a different radio.
