Anyone had issues with using the Chromecast with a G2? My music would stop after after a while with the screen off. It seems like the wifi would turn off and that would be the end of it. To combat that I used an app called REGON to combat this. I believe that app just keeps the wifi on. The problem is that REGON is killing my battery. Any suggestions?

This might sound stupid but have you checked under Advanced Wi-Fi settings to make sure it always keeps Wi-Fi on during sleep?
I don't see advanced WiFi options. Where should they be.

On my AT&T variant, once I'm in the list of all the Wi-Fi networks, I hit the menu button and it brings up a list of stuff like WPS Push Button... with the last being Advanced Wi-Fi. Don't know if yours would be the same.
Oh. Well it showed as always on. I turned off WiFi optimization so I'll see if that makes a difference

My wifi is always on during sleep and I have optimization checked. Never had an issue with streaming to my chromecast

I can say that I've had the exact same issue. It's extremely annoying especially since I heavily use casting and I've actually almost stopped subscribing to All Access... I'll install CM and see if the same issue persists.

I did a little more testing last night. The problem is only present with google play music, it doesn't seem to happen with using netflix.

Seems that my G2 doesn't always "re-connect" properly when I wake the phone up. My G2 is already setup to "Always" within the Wireless WiFi Advanced setup. Is this a common problem with G2s?
Mine does. May be a problem with your kernel
Mine sort of had that problem but then I just changed the wifi sleep policy so that it never turned off.

I can't figure this out and its driving me batty. When my phone is on wifi and the screen is off, it will stop syncing with Google.
I turn my screen on and the wifi signal is grey, then after a moment, it turns blue and I get my Google voice texts, gmail, etc.
Dies anyone have any idea?

well, i gave it a go and ran with it all day. still no incoming gmail or google voice texts when the screen is off
even when the screen is on, the notifications are very delayed. might it be a router setting..? it does only seem to happen at home..

what ROM/kernel are you running? Did you flash a kernel with updated wifi drivers and flash another (kernel) without reinstalling the ROM?
Otherwise, yes...check your router settings.
I'm sorry that changing out to wifi never sleeps, didn't fix your problem.

The stock Droid 3 ROM has a battery saving "feature" in the settings. Do you have that somewhere?

Make sure to read the changelog of the kernel. Some kernels include updated WiFi/Bluetooth drivers and if you switch kernels you must reflash the ROM to revert the drivers.

Hello all,
currently my Nexus 4 is losing it's mobile internet connection when i am a long time connected to a wifi. I am on O2 germany as a carrier, when android was much younger, like 1.6 i had the same issues, but somewhen on android 2.X it was fixed.
Somehow it looks like in 4.2 it's now the same issue
When i am just a few minutes in the wifi and lose wifi connection like moving away from the building everything is fine and the nexus 4 is switching to mobile internet
when i am a few hours in the wifi and to the same it's not switching, i've got cell connection for call and text but no Internet,
switchting from 2g to 2g/3g fixes it then, but it's somehow annoying
any ideas or anyone with the same issue?
edit:
seems that people are having the same issue on the galaxy nexus too, but even with older android versions

it actually happens to me as well. I live in Australia and thought the problem lies with my provider. And yeah I can get the 3g connection back when i tried to change to 2g then back to 3g connection. Has this issue been reported before? hope it can be fixed soon.
This has happened to me twice since I got my N4. I'm in Canada btw. I wonder if it is a frequent problem out there.

my solution so far is: airplane mode on -> airplane mode off
This is what I usually end up doing. Although it sucks that a phone of this caliber has problems with this.

Im having the same problem. Doesnt matter which rom im on. Been on stock, modaco, and some PA rom with this problem. Also used matr1x kernel and franco kernel. Solution for me is to jump into airplane mode and back.
I'm in the same boat and only quick fix is airplane mode on/off.

I have the same issue.
I dont know whose fault it is, Google, LG or my carrier... but it's quite frustrating from time to time.
I thought i had solved it by activating "choose automatically" in mobile network settings> network operators.
It worked yesterday and this saturday, i didnt drop 3g connection when i disconnected wifi.
But i lost it again this morning as i left for work, just like last week...
I've had this problem since 2.1. I seem to remember it being on the Google fix boards. The aeroplane on/off is the easiest workaround. But, still, it's annoying, and it is also not consistent. If it makes you feel any better, the same issue arises on iphones. This suggests it is not simply an android issue, it might be interesting to know if bb or wpx does it.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
i think the issue is neither LG nor Google
i think it's something with qualcomm driver and the provider
because on older devices i had with qualcomm chips had the same issue
the sgs2 and the hox which had exynos and nvidia chips didn't had the issue

so if you check the google support forum thread
it looks like a lot of users are having this issues
i don't undersand why google is not even giving a statement
It happens to me very often, because I turn off data overnight. Airplane mode doesn't help, the only thing that brings connection back without reboot is Mobile Networks -> Network operators -> search... It finds my operator again and connection comes back. I had the same problem with Galaxy Nexus 4.1.2 (fixed in 4.2, though), but airplane mode did the trick there.

Internet stops working when left idle for long
I bought the phone a week back & am facing the same problem.....not just been with Wi Fi even if the phone is left idle the internet stops working & i have to restart......post that it comes back to normal & active.
Its quite annoying to restart phone every now n then everytime internet stops working.
Also, tried Airplane mode on/off its worked.
Are there any experts that can help to resolve the issue for a better & permanent solution....?!
So me and both of my friend had trouble loading a YouTube video, it was so slow and kept pausing. We both have the Nexus 4 and were on wifi by the way. So we tried using another friends S III and it loaded the video fine. When I ran a side by side speed test he got a 19 mbs download and I could only pull 2. Is this happening to anyone else?

It obviously shouldn't be that way. Since this is wifi, try a mix of different networks. Lord knows, this wouldn't be the first phone with wifi issues with certain network security types right out of the gate (or wifi problems in general).

Yeah I switched to another network and it went fast again. Was just wondering if anyone knew the cause of the sudden slowdowns though.

On T Mo, I have had it flip from H+ to 3G but all in all in my speed test without changing anything APN wise I consistently get around 16mbps down. You tube and such flies (HQ) and even on wifi on Xfinitys basic package on a G band router I have no issues at all with wifi and YouTube in HD. Sorry, I'm no help but I haven't had an issue.
Oh my bad, I forgot to mentioned that we were on the same WiFi.

I've also had this on WIFI, thought it was my router, may have to play with router settings a bit to see what's happening.
Its only really noticeable when I try to play a youtube video, although had it other times too.
Also switching to mobile data for youtube as its faster!

Update!!! I figured it out its googles servers they are overloaded this is what makes me think that. Play store loads slow as well as YouTube! Not our phones!

I'm seeing this issue as well and it's occurring on 2 completely different wireless networks: at home and in the office. I've tried tweaking wifi settings on both my Nexus 4 and on my router at home but nothing has fixed the slow wifi speeds. And none of my other Android devices are experiencing this issue (Nexus 7, Galaxy Nexus, Motorola Xoom).
I called Google Play support just now and they didn't have any info to offer on whether or not this is a known issue, they just asked if I'd tried restarting my phone and/or done a factory reset. After I verified that I'd already done both things and neither action resolved the issue they said I could exchange the phone, so that's what I decided to do.
If this problem is indeed being caused by faulty hardware in the phone, hopefully the replacement phone will be in a better state and work properly. <crosses fingers>
It's the router that needs to be updated, not the phones. Obviously if you're is broken though that is irrelevant.
Can't say why that is, but I read a thread awhile back detailing it, I will try and locate it.

I think remydlc is referring to download speed over a cellular data connection, and not WiFi (which is what this thread's topic is really about). At least that's the way I read it...
Is this related... I have noticed compared to my old S2 and iPad my nexus has fewer bars and the signal can drop if held in the left hand. The connection speed can be much less too.
Not good.
could it possibly be trying multiple networks? I have a dual band 5 and 2.4 but they have different ssids - my initial set up was to the 5 ghz but when the google restore happened it populated my 2.4 ssid and pw. I found I had to "forget" all my configured access points and just set up my 5 ghz one and everything was smoking

I don't think this is causing the issue (at least for my phone). I've had the slow WiFi speeds on 2 completely different networks, with one being the campus network of the university I work at. Also, I've tried using my Nexus 4 on 2 different routers at home, one of which can do both 2.4/5.0 ghz and when I tried manually setting the phone to just use either the 2.4 ghz or the 5.0 ghz network it made no difference; the phone's WiFi speed was still very slow.
I'm feeling pretty convinced at this point that it's something faulty with the phone. I pretty much tore down and rebuilt my home network yesterday and tried all different types of settings to test the result on my Nexus 4 and nothing made the WiFi speed any better on the phone.
I just got the s4 and its total stock but it keeps dropping on and off wifi. In fact in settings it sometimes says I have poor wifi conection. But I know my router is good and my wifes g2 has no problems. I read online there is alot of issues sinve the 4.3 update and even after the patch. I also read samsung is not going to do anything there blaming sprint or your wifi. Should I switch to the g2 while I still can or hold out for a fix or does anyone know a fix?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Also it took 4 hours to set up phone. Most was the crazy slow download of apps from play store and updates from play store. Small apps would take 10 minutes to download then about 5 to install while on my wifes g2 same app same time downloaded and installed in under a minute

WiFi switching on and off is probably under wifi settings. Just turn it off and it will stop switching on and off.
