I've recently been duped into the official 4.3 update for Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337M Rogers) and now it seems I can no longer do anything with my phone. Secret menus for unlocking have been stripped, can't flash anything in Odin or recovery, can't do a damn thing. Previously I had flashed from the original 4.2.2 to 4.4 Gummy ROM but then went to flash what I thought was 4.2.2 stock (so I could use sim unlock in service menu) in Kies and got 4.3.
My question is, is my phone doomed? I've been googling trying to figure out how to fix this for about a week and am ready to take my phone and beat a Rogers rep with it and give up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks yeah I know I've already tampered with it since I originally flashed the 4.3 stock and the flag is there. I flashed/rooted other stuff fine but then reverting to stock last time, I can no longer flash anything. I'll try CF auto root again but Odin doesn't seem to be able to flash anymore. I'm downloading the latest Odin and drivers now and I'll follow up later. Thanks!

Thanks for the links. Turned out I needed to get the latest Odin + install the latest drivers (which I swear I already had, but anyway). Was able to flash 4.2.2 revert the bad sim unlock then enter the unlock code I got from cellunlocker, unlocked worked, reflashed latest 4.3 stock carrier rom, patch modem for AWS support and it all works. I'm now happily an X Rogers customer getting 10X the services with Wind Mobile for 1/3 of my old Rogers contract cost.

I have rooted my S4 using CF-Auto-Root.
I'm not sure if the 4.3 upgrade is available at the moment or not, but if not it should be available soon.
Is there a way to revert the rooting so that the stock android would allow me to do the upgrade ?
Would that leave me unable to root it again, or CF-Auto-Root doesn't care whether i'm running 4.2.2 or 4.3
Thanks in advance

Hi,
You should have asked before you did something that you were unsure of.
At the moment there is no way of getting completely back to stock if you customize your i9500.
The Triangle Away method of resetting your counter, does not currently work for the i9500.
So , you probably cannot return to complete stock in order to get the OTA , if and when it comes.
Your choice of ROMS is HERE
Does not look like much in the way of 4.3

Well i beg to differ with you Sir.
In I9500 the binary counter is hidden and that has nothing to do with OTA updates
To OP you can revert to Stock by downloading the latest STock rom and flash it via odin..
After you have flashed it VIa odin then you are pure stock and OTA updates would work like Charm
What you have done with CF-Root has only triggered the Binary counter and makes your phone out of warranty ( until the triangle away is available for i9500)

Hi,
I am only reporting what other people have reported.
It may be that you are correct as well. :good:
I do not wish bad on anyone, but some have reported no OTA possible after they rooted.
I hope that I am wrong.

Not completely true, Samsung has instructed service points to repair faulty devices under warranty even if they are rooted. This is however a ONE time courtesy, from the second time the owner has to pay to repair if the phone is rooted.

Ya, but i guess it depends on region to region..
Have the Canadian s4 (rogers variant) i377m , I was running gummy 1.1 (kitkat) rom and decided to revert to stock after some issues with wifi camera, time not updating, etc.... and someone had requested some files from the variant for dev unbrick stuff. Crappy timing, because when I pulled the stock fw from samsungupdates it was 4.3 . flashed via odin, lost my cwm and root but figured I'd just repeat the auto-root method. Then I saw Knox. Did some research, and saw all the issues everyone is having with custom recoveries not booting. Then I found a work around, however performing said work around would set Knox status to 0x1 and void warranty. Since phone is only 2 weeks old, figured I'd hang tight for another method.
Did some more checking and t turns out, Knox isn't actually installed, nor are the files when I search by name, if I tap it it tells me I can download and install knox (no thanks) and I just haven't bothered. it's just a shortcut. I'm wondering if anyone can answer whether or not I can safely flash with Odin via auto-root method to re-root and install TWRP or CWM recovery? I'd prefer not to lose warranty, but since knox doesn't appear to be actually installed, not sure I have to worry about that.
Here are my particulars:
Rogers i377m
JB 4.3 (official)
im mk6 baseband
kernel is 3.4.0-2142508 with build date of sat nov 16 (believe still custom from rom???)
However, SEL Linux is now enforcing.
Can anyone tell me with above config, which method would be best to use (to obtain root) . I did backup my IEMI with qpst back when I was on 4.2.2 . Could I potentially restore said IEMI with qpst, then re-flash the 4.2.2 fw to get out of this Konx/SEL enforce I'm seeing?
I don't have a ton of experience, but I have been reading as much as I can, and I've flashed my phone from 4.2.2 to all my custom stuff (and a co-workers) and have reverted back to stock with odin. I don't have a usb jig if I soft brick (but I suppose I could make one), and I work in the IT field so I'm faily competent. Need a little direction/confirmation.

I am waiting for an answer to that question too. Got my S4 on friday. Was on 4.2.2 and I let it update to 4.3 without even asking myself "Is that OK?". I've read all that stuff about MF3 (AT&T) and I am wondering if Canadian's MK6 is something like MF3. Forcing us to use other recoveries than CWM or TWRP.

Yeah I don't particularly care about the Knox counter and warranty, what I do care about is being able to run custom recovery (CWM in particular). I would hate to root, blow the knox counter, then find out can't run custom recoveries anyway. I've read conflicting info on this. I know once knox is installed, that's what can happen. However with our particular rogers variant (at least mine, I flashed with odin to 4.3 tho) Knox isn't installed anywhere, at all, just a shortcut to install if desired. And I don't desire. May have to just bite the bullet and try, but I'll wait a bit longer first to see if someone has a concrete answer on our particular MK6 version.

According to post above, SGH-I337M from rogers running 4.3 MK6 can be rooted with CF-AUTO-ROOT
not sure about that bootloaders, but the method shoud work with odin.
Az
I also have the Rogers 4.3 update installed on my I337m, and I only see the Knox shortcut. Does this mean it's not installed? Will it still trip the counter if I root?
You can use that but it will trip the counter. I know because that's what I did. There are apparently other methods floating around that won't trip knox. However I am able to root and run custom recoveries and roms just like before no problems.

Honestly? I don't know. I have the same. Knox shortcut (deleted). I guess the easiest way to check would be to boot into download mode (VOL down+power+home at start up) and check for
KNOX = 0x0 (warranty good)
KNOX = 0x1 (warranty void)
then just pull the battery and boot back up normally.

Yeah, there is a method of cooking the root into the image before flashing with odin. just google "universal root de la vega" for method. I haven't tried this method yet, but it seems to work well for everyone that has (on i337m) , and wants to keep knox un-tripped. Apparently Kingo can do it too, but i hear adware complaints about that. Not sure I care about knox, as there are other methods of flashing official modem update files via odin (when new updates are released) to obtain the updates without using OTA or kies.
canadian bell user here...
I flashed the 4.3 update and yes it does include knox bootloaders.
Yes, rooting, installing custom recovery or kernel will trip a Knox Warranty Counter, that has not been hacked yet. (word is, that it is software not hardware based).
Did I trip mine? yup.
Do I care? nope.
Bell Smartphone Protection Plan 8$ per month, plus 160$ when getting replacement (beats 600$) covers lost/stolen, water damaged, and smashed phones... and dont care if the bootloader or flash counter is tripped. (kinda hard to tell if the screen is smashed or phone is stolen anyway.)
They ship it to samsung who disassembles the phone, replaces the broken parts, and flashes back to stock with counter reset, tests, and puts it in the refurbished pile. . they never check, care or can do anything about it after a point.
This is how i got my S4, broke my S3 and had the opportunity to get a different replacement model for same price. They shipped my new phone in 3 days, with a return postage sticker for my old, cracked but still functional S3. 0 downtime. 0 hassle.
cf root work
Cf root worked for my 4.3 update on my Canadian rogers. I'm looking for the 4.3 stock rom for rogers now with no luck. Does anyone have any idea
4.3 stock is on Samsungupdates i cant post links yet or i would post it. I used it, and mentioned it in this thread.

Did it the easy way using the Cyanogen Installer (http://beta.download.cyanogenmod.org/install).
Ended with CM10.2 and CWM 6.0.4.4
Then I found this link for flashable zips for CWM and TWRP.
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=8421
Got this link from there:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43216990&postcount=3
Make sure you thank iB4STiD
I flashed CWM Touch 6.0.4.4
I was running the stock AMG1 which showed KNOX. I was told that if I can flash a custom recovery such as TWRP or CMR, that my phone is not locked. So I flashed AMDJ to see. I also flashed TWRP with no issues. I then installed Gummy version:1.1-11-21-13-UNOFFICIAL. I found KNOX but was able to remove it using Titanium Backup. Apparently it was not activated? I am now on Android 4.4, Baseband I337MVLUAMDJ, Kernel Version [email protected] #1 Thu Nov 21,2013, Gummy Version 1.1-11-21-13-UNOFFICIAL, Build Date Thu Nov 21, 2013, Build Number KRT16S, SELinux Status Permissive. I would like to install AWS Bands for T-Mobile on my BELL I337M. I am currently running Gummy 1.1 on version 4.4. I was told that I can't install T-Mobile AWS bands without messing up my IMEI etc. if I am not on a stock ROM. Can anyone confirm or deny this? My phone runs painfully slow on T-Mobile (Edge 2G). Any information would be much appreciated.
Fido s4 user here. I updated to 4.3, used auto root, and don't care about tripping counter. But since doing all that (2 weeks ago), I've tried two custom roms, and they don't get past boot screen after installation. I get this thing about seandroid and kernel, recovery. Not sure what to do about that. :-\

Try Flash the proper kernel. Do a factory reset via cwm after flashing as well to remove the old user data.

What kernel are you talking about? Do you have a link by any chance?
so since updating to 4.3 via OTA, then rooting phone (auto root). If i wanted to unroot the phone (SELinux is enforcing), I shouldn't have any problem unrooting it via Odin 1.85 with fido firmware for 4.3, correct?

If having kernel issues then i find easiest way to remedy is to flash a stock firmware. The img file contains the stock kernel. This will get you back to a working state, then use saferoot or kingo to reroot, goo manager for twrp or cwm installer for custom recovey, and off you go.
I generally avoid roms that don't include the proper kernel. Gummy rom (kitkat) includes proper kernel and is the most stable non stock fw ive run, personally.

Selinux is enforced on 4.3 yes. There are methods for putting into permissive, but isnt really necessary as most apps have been updated to run on 4.3.
Regarind unroot via flashing stock, correct. Stock will flash stock recovery, stock kernel and os, and yes it removes root. Like any flash, be sure to wipe old sys/user data via a factory reset after flashinf stock if you boot loop (soft brick).

Let me makes things clear for you mate , right now i have an old bootloader (No Knox warranty void, when i go to download mode) means i can flash any 4.2.2 firmware without having any knox void warranty. this is what i do i flash a pre-rooted rom then use a triangle away to reset the binary and use Phil recovery and flash any 4.3 custom rom i want! but if you need to send your phone to samsung because there's a hardware problem , feel free to flash a 4.2 from you country.(Since more likely after they fix your phone they will prolly update it to 4.3) remember flashing a 4.3 mk9 stock rom means a new bootloader/Knox void warranty 0x0 willl be activate. So if you flash root/custom rom that should void your warranty to 0x1 Please feel free to check more about Knox from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447832

Yes I understood that. I'm in the same situation as you as in the way I flash ROMS. I didn't realise that the counter still worked even if it was an official update with bootloader, just thought if I flashed a custom rom with new bootloader it started the Knox warranty void.
Thanks for all your help. I'm gutted now though coz your right Samsung probably update my phone and then I'm b****ed anyway if I root again and custom rom it. Your link doen't take me to a 4.2.2. rom though so I'll keep looking.

Yes I'm unbranded and on 3 network. Unlocked
Would rather have sammy 4.2.2 to return it on please. Not confused just don't know how to find older version. It just brings up latest.

You need to flash a pre-rooted rom from djembey thread. Then you can use triangle away to reset the binary .and the flash a stock rom and sent it for repair. Please read the instruction on djembey thread so you wont void ur warranty.
2nd opinion . Flash a stock rom with odin by selecting PDA. And root your phone using saferoot (i dont know about this if it works) install triangle away . Reset binary . Reflash stock again then send.
Sent from Hell ?
Is the pre rooted stock rom so that triangle away will work??? I'm on a pre rooted custom rom but need a samsung kernal for triangle away to work properly. If a flash the stock rom I have on 4.2.2 will that aslo flash stock recovery???

Thats correct ,as long its a Stock and rooted then yes you can reset the binary.then flash the stock rom again and you should be fine . incase your phone are still in old bootloader (no knox, never flash 4.3 Samsung rom) then feel free to flash a 4.2.2 Pre-rooted BMGA-odex-FULL from djembey thread ,once your done, Download/Install triangle away and reset the binary, flash a Normal stock rom from samsung, Boot into download mode and you will see it says Official and your good to go Goodluck mate
You've been a great help thanks. Stock recovery is that also flashed when I flash the stock rom last through odin???
So I'm gonna flash a stock rom pre rooted 4.2.2 with CWM then use triangle away then flash stock samsung through odin.

Hey guys so i have heard that if i install the old firmware for my s4 from sammobile using Odin one from early 2013 that it will give me access to service menu so that i can unlock my phone. So my question is that is it 100% safe to Odin flash the older 4.2.2 rom when i am on 4.3? Can i flash it unlock my phone then upgrade my phone to a custom rom again? Thank you

Do not do this. This will brick your phone. If I am not mistaken, there is a method to unlock mk2 in the general section.

You should ask this in the t mobile s4 forum. I believe your bootloader is unlocked and you can flash an older firmware version. But check there first. This is the att s4 forum. It can't be done on the at&t s4.
Is the service menu missing on the stock T-mo 4.3 ?
Nooo guys i have an unlocked bootloader i have the s4 that is very similar to the tmobile and it's the same as the Canadian versions. And yes the Canadian version which is 1337m and mine which is m919v don't have access to service menus but i have flashed a lot of custom roms simply by philz recovery so doesn't that mean i have an unlocked bootloader?

If you're on 4.3 I believe you also have Knox, in which case I don't think you'll be able to go back to 4.2.2. Read through this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40903040

Did you ever take the ota to 4.3? Do you know what firmware your device is on? A 4.3 custom Rom wouldn't have knox but if you took the official update to 4.3 you would have Knox.

Idk, I'm not that familiar with your device. From the little bit of reading I've done I would say no, you can't flash an older firmware. But again, I'd post this question in the t mobile forum. They'd be more familiar with your device.

Did you ever update you device with kies or ever take an over the air update ? It's fine if you were on a stock based 4.3 rom as long as you never took an official update. If so then you can't go back. Just flashing a stock 4.3 rom won't change that status but the 4.3 bootloader would.
You would have know by checking in settings under SE

I remember i soft bricked my phone one time and had to flash my firmware but the 4.3 latest one from sammobile and after i did that i got knox but i believe i already tripped the knox counter because in download mode it says 0x1 so i guess i cant?
so i corrupted the efs on my SM-N900W8 note 3 but i used a method flashing a efs script reset and the phone booted up perfectly. But for some reason no matter how much i factory reset or flash stock roms i cannot get the phone to go back to offical status.
Please help thanks alot guys.
Why do you need it to go back to official status may I ask? Do you need to send it back for repair?
As far as I know if you either root, flash custom recovery or kernel it will always stay at custom. In my case, the only time it goes back to official is when I use odin to flash back the rogers stock rom.

It's originally Rogers so I suggest you use Rogers. Unfortunately you will have to download it from sammobile ( unless you can find an alternative ) since the link I use isn't working anymore. Download the MJ4 since it's the latest one from them.
edit: found a live link here.

It will work. The reason you're getting custom despite flashing stock rom from wind is because the phone is originally rogers and if anything other than that is flashed, it will show as custom.
