OK Guys, I think my phones dead. Here's the deal. The power button no longer works, been the case for a few days now. Ive been using gravity screen to switch on the display, but always worried what would happen if my phone should shut down. And today my phone ran out of charge and shut down So Now Im stuck with a phone which is charging and will work perfectly fine if it switches on but IDK how to switch it on. Phone not yet rooted. Anyway to get it to boot?
If Not would it be possible for the LG service centre to get it working? or is it gone forever?
Replacement not possible, since I got it from the US and Im now in India.
My friend got repaired his power button in LG store for some 500rupees, he brought his nexus from amazon.com so they can help you.

So the power button on my nexus one completely stopped working. I shut off the device and could not turn it back on. After popping battery in an out a few times I finally somehow, got it to turn on. Now i'm going to need to make sure it stays on all the time.
Now my question. To me this looks like a manufacturers hardware defect, so would the unlocked bootloader and me being the second owner of the device make any sort of difference here?
Any other way to turn the device on when its completely shut off?
Update #1: 7/30/10
Called HTC, then i got transferred to Nexus one department then back to HTC. Described my problem to everyone. They were nice to say they will get that taken care of. Told him i got the phone as a gift, updated my info, and I'm doing the swap option. He also said that any "physical" damage to the device might be charged, aka broken screen or w.e, regular wear and tear is fine. Mentioned nothing at all about software. I'm flashing back to stock either way. Will update as time goes
Same power button problem. Haven't checked into warranty with bootloader being unlocked, but if you plug up the usb cord, wait for the little led light to come on, take out the battery and put it back in as soon as the light goes off, then it will power the phone back on.
Ah i guess that's how i got lucky with turning it on then.
Hmm, i might give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.
Let us know what they say if you don't mind.
No worries with HTC. I was a second owner of my first N1. I traded my Iphone 3GS for it. Unlocked the bootloader first 10 minutes i had the thing. Few weeks later. I saw dust under the screen. Called up HTC. Gave them IMEI. Told them my girl got it for me for my birthday. They gave me an address.(original owners). I said nope and gave them mine. Went through the process. I had them put a hold on my credit card for $525. They sent a replacement phone next day. I packed mine up and sent it back. I had to do this twice because the replacement after 3 weeks started getting dust again and i could tell the power button wasnt really working well also.
Now im a second owner of another N1. I traded my tmobile N1 for a ATT N1. woot.
You can also root the phone and put trackball wake on it....also, when the phone is off completely, the trackball WILL boot it - tested this myself today.

Honestly when my phone was off I tried booting by pressing trackball and holding, just pressing and nothing. How did you do it? is there a specific process? I already have trackball wake selected thankfully before this even happened.
Another question is, how in the hell would i get into recovery or any of those functions now?

Has anyone of you guys encountered the same issue with your HTC HD2? Care to share the fix you did? Would this mean bye-bye to my HD2 already?

If a clean install (task 29) doesn't help, then I guess you have no other option than sending it for reparation.
It seems like there is a limited life span on the touchscreen. Mine died in October, and I had to buy a replacement because nothing I did fixed the problem.
I had the same issue as you, but in my example touchscreen is slowly dying. For example I can't wake up the phone pressing right (red) button. So I learned that using any other button will not cause freeze of screen. I also discovered that if you gently slap your phone on hand, magically screen starts responding. Weird, but it's ‘working’ like this since 5 months so far.
I just encountered this problem with my HD2 as well. It seems that this is a fairly common issue. Apparently the digitizer for the touchscreen is located directly beneath the red power button and has a tendency to lose its connection.
For me, holding the red power button down with some force for about 5 seconds fixed the issue. Is this temporary? Perhaps, but it has worked just fine for a few days now. Try that out.
Can't Unlock the Phone..
I am having the same problem..I can't unlock the phone..No matter what android Rom I installed.I tried to removed the lock screen and the touch stopped working..But when the phone restarts and you put you pin etc,I can use the phone normally..but when it goes black and trying to turn it on again nothing works on the screen..
Though the hard buttom works..Home screen etc..but can't get the touch to work after the screen goes black!
It's not rom related
I have installed WM6.5 (Stock), Android GB, Android ICS, Android JB But the problem appears to be the same in all
when I press Red button touch doesn't work any more
I would go with digitizer theory
BUT my question is this:
is it gonna get worse? cause for now as long as i avoid Red button everything is OK :good:
and I love my HD2 but if getting worse is possible I have to get rid of it :crying:
Well i had the same problem.now my phone has been to the service centre for reparing

Funny (or sad) thing is we don't have an official service center here
so only option is to replace it or sell it as the way it is
Try this:
Lock the screen normally, screen turns off. (Power button)
To turn it on again by pressing any other screen buttons other than the power button. (DONT USE THE POWER BUTTON TO DO THIS)
I found that if I do it this way, the screen runs normal.
First of all, I have been using this phone for over 18 months without any issues it is an amazing phone, but, all of the sudden all lower buttons (back, home and search) are not working anymore. It all started a few days ago and only the Home button started to fail but worked again after a phone restart, and now even after a restart all 3 buttons does not work
So far I have tried:
1. A hard reset, lost all my data but that did not fixed the buttons.
2. Opened the phone uncovering the display and mainboard trying to see if a cable was not fully plugged in but no, then I assembled it again. This made the buttons works for almost a day but then failed again.
My phone is already out of warranty, does somebody has/had the same issues?, what can I do to resolve or should I just get a new phone???

Just let the phone rest for a day, or 3 days, then check it but dont turn it on until the days passes. Usuall this works for all phones with touch panel.

My back, search, camera, home, & up volume is not working at all. I have to turn off and on my phone if I want to go to a different app. I have took the battery out, tried turning it off, and 100% rebooting it (and loosing everything) but nothing seems to be working.
Not sure what to do now. I really need my phone and cant afford to get a new phone. It sucks having to turn it off and on so much and it is killing the battery.... :crying:

Can't it be a hardware problem??? there are replacement parts for cheaper price in ebay
So here is what happened:
My phone screen got a huge crack on its screen from a 3 inch drop, I sent in in for a unofficial repair because my phone was rooted and had cwm and cm11 installed. Got my phone back today, I can already tell the glass is different (no rounded edges, button is smooth against the glass when you don't press in and you can feel the glass when you press in) and it worked fine. Mind you my batteries are at 100% (I checked this with the external battery charger kit you can get for the s4 at Samsung's website, it turns green when fully charged). Then when I put my case on it, my phones screen turns off. I take the case off to turn it back on, no luck. I tried removing the battery and putting a new one in, no luck it too was fully charged. I noticed that when I plugged in my phone without a battery, the top of my phone started to warm up near the camera lens with the back off. I can confirm this is my phone that I sent in because everything is as it was before, before my phone decided to not turn on. I cant get it to a bootloader, Odin cant recognize it when I hold up+home+power then wait a bit to press up, my computer cant recognize it, nothing. The light that usually blinks when booting doesn't turn on. It just refuses to turn on at all or show any signs that it was working before. Can interrupting the cm booting process do this to your phone? I doubt it but you never know.
Sounds like you have one of your buttons stuck down.
Check to make sure each button has a positive click sound and feel to it.
Obviously your phone was dismantled so maybe not put back together 100% correct.

All my physical buttons feel just fine, however it could be possible that the phone wasn't put together back right. How would of it been able to work just fine before the case though?

Hello, I got my S4 new - about 1.5 years ago, rooted and flashed it - i even forgot the name of the Rom.
The device has worked flawlessly since. It is being used by my daughter. Recently she called me from college, indicating that the device is not turning on and not charging.
I picked it up and found that it is turning on and not even charging (USB port unresponsive): tried different cables but that didn't help. Pulling the battery out and directly connecting to the AC does not wake up the device. It will not enter into recovery or download mode either. The device is dead cold.
It looks like this is a hardware problem...I am not sure. So what are my options?
Thanks - MN
Sounds like the hardware failed. You really don't have any options. You could try mobiletechvideos.com. If they can't fix it they won't charge you other than the postage costs.

Well, thanks for your response - a little twist - I went by ATT Device Support Center. The phone was able to respond briefly - for about 10 seconds - it tried to boot but hanged up on the Samsung logo screen, then after 10 seconds went cold again. However, they were not able to wake the phone up using the power button ... so does it sound like a soft or hard brick ...
thanks - MN
