I noticed the new OTA updated on my phone today and decided not to install it. Once I got home, I plugged my phone into my computer to charge it and it installed the OTA update without even asking. So with that being said, what do I have to do now to get back to where I was which was stock with root access?
I did a backup this morning with Titanium, could I do a factory reset and restore with Titanium?

I believe you are stuck like me! I was using a jailbroken iphone which would block any update from apple and I got used to that. I forgot to freeze the updater and it automatically updated my brand new s4 that I had just rooted and tweaked to my liking just a few days ago :crying::crying::crying:

You guys are on hold right now.
I don't understand how you guys are getting OTA updates with a rotted phone. When mine was rooted, it said updating was disabled because my device was modified.

some are seeing, even if they are rooted, it will say official and do the update, lose root after, but it has been seen.

Avoid all updates by flashing custom roms. You can always go back to factory stock, unrooted and untouched. But this way, you can see what updates do what, and then decide.
The Ax says, just a helpful tip.
I tried to avoid the update but lost the battle when I plugged my phone in to charge and walked away! I should have froze those services listed in another thread. I had no idea. Its only time... Hopefully

I don't mean to make matters worse for you, but stories like these are really depressing. I sincerely hope that some of our advanced Devs will find a solution for MF3 root soon.
And now for the potentially helpful part: AT&T typically has a 14 "buyers remorse" policy. They'll take back the handset (so long as it is in perfect condition) for ANY reason and exchange it for another (or same one, as far as I know). Two caveats:
You will likely be forced to pay a $35 re-stocking fee. Might be worth it for root/ROMs though!
You can only do this once per purchase.
Otherwise, you'll need to wait until a solid root is found for MF3. Even still, keep in mind that your "aboot" has been patched, and now Loki will not work for you (it means no custom roms/kernels, and no custom recovery). This might be permanent, as the bootloaders are locked-down TIGHT. The Loki exploit was just a workaround, but even it is gone in MF3.
I just posted this in another thread, so here you go again:
For future reference, or for someone else, you could have avoided this easily!
1) When it tries to update, don't hit "remind me later"! You can only do that so many times before it forces the update automatically. INSTEAD, you can just hit the home button and force your way out, not making any decision. You can do this indefinitely...but it's annoying so you should just 2) Get Titanium Backup and freeze the OTA update apps so they don't bother you! It's right at the top of the sticky beginner's info aka noob helper thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301762
You probably already knew this but maybe it will help someone else who's not prepared to avoid this OTA!

I did that exactly. I just ignored it. I have no idea what triggered my phone to do the update. I checked just now and even when I plug my phone in, Kies doesn't even open. I'm not sure what I did... Its really annoying though.
I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Just curious, when I first got got the phone and rooted twice, I became unable to perform profile/prl update along with software update checking as well. I also couldn't do a ##786 or ##72786. I really want to root again with MF9 to do the hotspot mod. Anyone els ecome across this issue and can offer any advice I would really appreciate it.

I use aosp 95% of the time I've had my GS4 and I never update prl/pro and I have lte when other people who are completely stock tw don't and have to update to get it. Not sure what your issue was, all tw have the option to update pro/prl maybe something was up with Sprint..? I've had no issues using Aosp and we have some killer roms (official) for this device! Maybe someone else will have a solution to this.. I used Chainfires auto root twice and always was able to update em.

The error I get which I forgot to mention is "session in progress, please try again later". it only does this while rooted. I can immediately unroot and flash back to stock and everything works perfectly.
I've seen that a few times but I immediately hit update again and everything works fine.
Oh and I'm always rooted.

Hey guys,
Great site. I have the lag problem with my S7 edge after root. Downloaded fix file from link in other in (Rooting Problem). Not sure what to do now. Do I flash zip with Flashfire? Leave it in the zip state? I realize this is elementary to most, just been a very long time for me. Hated to ask the question again. Wouldn't let me ask it in the thread I mention.
Never mind, figured it out. Thanks for the 37 views without advice.
Well what file did you download and did you use flashfire to install? I don't have root just curious

There's a file on the Verizon forum that helps most if not all the issues with root. Just flash it once and you're good to go. OP just doesn't understand people here aren't obligated to help him, self entitled privilege at it's best.

Sorry guy. You are right. I should of explained. I followed directions from this youtube video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kqb-p2JO5I4 ). Worked , but was lagging and wifi issues. Came here, found and flashed with Flashfire., the wifi fix file , which I can't seem to find here now. Everything worked great. Until next morning it was stucked on AT&T logo. Only could get it into download mod. Had to do a factory rest. Want to youtube to look for a different way to root. Found this ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcFEcycZZnU ) followed directions and seem to work great right now. But time will tell. Sorry for the rushed details, busy day. Thanks.
Update. Yesterday got stucked on AT&T logo AGAIN. I decided the heck with this root, 4th time I had to set phone up from start. I did a factory reset. Set my phone back up. Lost my root according to Root Checker. But I am getting security warning, and when it reboots. It still shows custom and unlocked. Any ideals? As so, I tried to do the AT&T update, but it fails.
If it is showing custom & unlocked, you might have a custom recovery and/or unlocked bootloader. Just got the S7 edge, so I haven't really messed around with the internals yet (or anything dealing with rooting or unrooting), but that's usually what that means in my experience. The fix is usually an odin flash to the stock image, but as I said, I haven't really gotten too involved with it yet. A factory reset will set the system back to stock, but I don't think it does anything with the other partitions. Good luck and if I can find anything out that might help, I'll come back by.
So far as the update, do you have all the prerequisite stock bloatware installed? There are apps that are required for an update to work. If you uninstalled any it will freeze you out of getting updates.
And my signature is so out of date it is funny.
Hey guys! Just a couple of minutes ago a really strange thing happened. I ended a phone call and right after it I got a request to grant root permission for zygote64. Anybody who knows what this is? Kinda freaked me out to be honest Will add a screenshot so you will be able to see my root apps, and the denied root request for zygote64. Besides root the only mod I have is Viper4arise, and my device is on Android 7.1.1, February security patch.
Searched around a little but couldn't find a clear answer, so would really appreciate some help Thanks!
Sounds like you might be infected http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/166211/why-are-zygote-and-whatsapp-asking-for-root
Wow, thats not good at all :/ Anyone know what might causes it? And just to be on the safe side is it enough to flash the system again with something like flashfire, or should I consider to complete reset and setup my phone as it was a new one?

Have you considered something less drastic like running anti malware software first? Something like Malwarebytes?
There was a discussion about this over in the SuperSU beta thread last month. Here's a link to Chainfire's response. Maybe this will help?

I thought of doing that, but decided to flash system again just to be sure, but looking at the thread linked in the post above it may have been some weird root issue tough. Made some backups of my most used apps so it wasn't that big of a deal actually to restore But thanks for the help!

Glad to hear you got it sorted.
Today I got the same pop up. I just exited Apple Music and locked my screen until suddenly my lockscreen came on. I unlocked my Nexus 6P to see "zygote64 requests root access" by SuperSU. I denied it but did not check whether it sticked after a reboot or disappeared like for most other users. I restored to a backup I made two weeks ago just in case. I mainly install apps from the Google Play Store but check other apks with VirusTotal before installing.
While many believe it can be a virus, I suspect it is a bug with a root app or SuperSU (maybe even Magisk). With "ps | grep zygote64" I could not find any suspicious processes except zygote and zygote64 which is normal. Even Chainfire once pointed out that this can be due to a development bug that should not be in public releases but still often are.
If anyone has the same issue, I would really appreciate any information. I'm still kinda freaking out that this is malware even though I find it very unlikely. Moreover, the Triada trojan is one year old, used bugs fixed in LineageOS14.1 and should be detected by Kaspersky. I've installed several anti-virus apps and none found anything unusual.

I have an SM-N910P (SM-N910PVPU5DQI5)
hardware: N910P.05
OS: 6.01
Build: MMB29M.N9100V0U5DQI5
Wi-Fi only since the connection to Sprint is no more (use my Note 8 for that)
TL;DR - where can I find the ROM for this phone for 8.1 Oreo? Where can I find instructions on how to do it?
I'd like to root it (have oneclickroot) to get rid of the crap finally; then upgrade the OS. Version 8.1 would be fine, 9 is buggy on my Note 8 so not sure I want to go that far yet.
What I can't find is what I need for the phone I have to do what I want. Yes, I've done searches. Yes, I've even used my Google Fu. But most of what I find is from 2016-17 or earlier. After so much researching and reading, I am in acronym hell.
ROM = something you flash to upgrade OS (yes?)
ODIN = some special something that can do all but I can't find (makes my head thor....sorry, couldn't resist)
TWRP2 = twerp something that helps with booting but not sure what else
I have found threads that discuss it but there's a lot of broken linkages both here and elsewhere due to age of articles.
I am a root-virgin. I was going to root my Note 10.1/2013 tablet but replacing the battery did not revive it. Funeral was beautiful, though.
There is a Lineage OS Unofficial 15.1 trlte based on 8.0 Oreo. However, being an unofficial version it will have some bugs. My suggestion is to search XDA Note 4. Then scroll down to Android general development Snapdragon and go to LineageOS 16.1 unofficial version, scroll down and it will have a link to the unofficial 15.1. Then look for the download version trlte. And just for the record, I totally understand what you mean by acronym hell. I went through that also. Had to stop reading to search 5 or 6 times within 1 paragraph of reading. It takes time to understand but if you persist youll get the jang if it. As for the oneclickroot I can offer you no info as I have no experience with it. I will say, Odin is the preferred method here on XDA. There may be members that look down an app to root. I am not one of them as I began my root with the S3 years back. I was unfamiliar with Odin, drives, and PC. Rooting with an app helped to get started. As. for your search, you mentioned most from 2016 & ,17. Yep , I know. The developers for the most part have moved on to newer phones.
Oh, if you have TWRP custom recovery, I strongly recommend backing up of all your parttisions before you begin, meaning check all the boxs before you back up. Also, there is an app called Tipatch which patches TWRP adding the ability to back not only data but alll internal memory. Make sure you TWRP is set to backing up to your external SD. If your looking for something close but not Oreo. Try GRX home zip on stock deodexed rom. Good luck
Twrp (team win recovery project) is a custom recovery which replaces your stock recovery. It is very important to download the correct one for your phone. I use twrp 3.2.3-0-trlte.img.tar and flash it with Oden. Make sure to turn off auto reboot. YouTube search for more details. A custom recovery lets you flash custom roms, kernel, and various zip files. The most important thing it does is backup all the parttisions. If you make a mistake later on soft brick your phone , you backup may be the only thing that gets it working again. I recommend backing up all parttisions (check all boxes ) before you root or mod anything. That way you have a clean backup of your original firmware. Backup everything to external sd and if possible make a duplicate and save to pc, flash drive...... And yes, its a bit overwhelming at first so do some research and ask questions if needed.
Back up what's that? LOL.. When I backed up mine, then started the wipe process I accidentally wiped away my back up. LOL lucky for me I have a complete stock firmware on reserve if it is ever needed. I'm itching to try something new, but might just stick to what i have now..

LOL , Im glad you liked that"back up whats that?" LoL Perhaps I should have been a bit more tactful in my responses but I couldnt help myself . Just couldn't seem to convince that member the importance of making a backup before flashing and modifying everything. As for the systemimg fail in Odin, the PIT file from another firmware has partitioning that is incompatible with 5dq15.
It could be a combination of DM-verity, DRK, emmc/mmc fail and all the rest.

Ya I forgot to make my back up go to the external SD card, or at least transfer it to my computer desktop.. I love having complete control of my phone.. It actually works better than my Pixel 3a Xl... Only issue I have found so far is after upgrading my youtube vanced, I lost screen rotation, and can't figure out why.. I'm going to uninstall it just to see if some how that caused the issue.. If not then time for a complete reinstall... LOL I always visit this forum at least 3-4 times a day to see what is up.. Hopefully more people will come to realize, that the newer phones are just not worth the price, as they have become to restrictive and to expensive, plus not to mention to intrusive.

The 512gb Note 10 plus at about $1,200 is an experience device. The hardware is impressive, however, restrictive US versions have locked bootloaders.
Your YouTube Vanced app may conflict with YouTube when updating. I believe you have to uninstall YouTube updateds and disable automatic updates in Google PS. Then install YouTube Vanced . Advice to confirm this as Im not certain of the exact procedure. Just be careful not to unistall Youtube Good luck.

Youtube was originally installed, but taken out with TT back up and root, before Youtube Vanced was intalled.. So I went ahead and reinstalled the rom. Will see what happens over the next few days.. I know a fix was posted in the Rom thread, but the link is broken, as it is no longer being supported naturally.. But hope someone has a copy, for future use, rather than keep on re-installing.

I haven't the experience with YouTube Vanced so I can not advise. As far as the broken links in the developer threads it seem to be a common issue. Im guessing , the more time that passes the less the links will provide a download. As I notice your post on Dr. ketan rom and it links to a n910g xda thread. If you do go back to rooted stock deodexed rom before installing a custom rom then consider copying your system csc file/folder to external sd. Also, you may wish to check out the GRX home v8 touchwiz mod .zip. Its modern and customizable but can not easily be ported to the Dtux rom as some setting overlap but once familiar with the setting in GRX then you can avoid conflicting issues with the rom control app of the custom rom. GRX works really smooth and I liked it so much than when I installed Dtux the touchwiz launcher felt out dated. Anyway the last pic is an app for themeing the Play Store.

Stuck on the 5DQ15, I noticed something in looking threw a .zip custom rom with knox system app removed./deleted. The files/app inside the folders were deleted. The folder was not delete but the property permissions were changed. I found this to be consistent rom to rom developer to developer. Ill post a few pics in the next post. So now I do the same thing with a root file manager. I just copy and past the folder to external sd before I delete files/app from the system. Then back out and change the folder permissions and reboot. Its recommend to wipe dalvik/chache making changes to the system but I get lazy and just reboot.
If you still have the Dr. ketans M12 rom or another rom with system apps that have been removed then you can look threw the rom .zip and copy the touchwiz home app to the external sd . I use an older app (ZArchiver pro) to be able to copy an app from a .zip without the need to extract the entire .zip to do so. Perhaps the newer free version will do the same.
