So I'm pretty new to root so any help would be appreciated. I am running carbon rom on my nexus 4. I've recently been playing around with themes and mods and not sure if this is where I would ask this question or not. I installed a custom theme (root* not a launcher) but I don't like the lock screen. Tried zip themer but nothing sticks. After reading more about it, from what I understand, and correct me if I am wrong, is the reason it won't work is because a theme redirect the request for that image (default lock screen image) to its image. And the mods I am using through zip themer change the default images not the themes images. So my question is, how do I modify the themes lock screen image to what I want?

So i've been looking to theme my X and someone told me to use Rom Manager for themeing because it's easy. But if all i did was a basic root and i didn't change bootloader or i'm not deoxed or whatever else you can possibly do to this phone will this mess my phone up? Or is it fine to use to theme my phone with just a basic root?

Rom Manager will need the Bootloader in order to do the installs. Rom Manager basically boots into recovery and installs the .zip file you downloaded.
If you don't Deodex your phone and install a theme, I do not think it will 'break', but your theme is likely to be half-a$$ed. Themes replace images (which should still work even if not de-odex) and they edit certain parts of other files (services.jar for example) to change the colors of some text. If your phone is Odexed, the coding for those colors will not be in the right place and thus won't change.

You can Deodex. You can either follow the manual process (there is a thread in the Themes section.
Or if you want to download Rom Manager/Bootstrap, you can then either load a complete system (Nandroid backup) of a 2.2/rooted/deodexed system (There's one of these in the Themes section as well)
Or there is a version of the 928Droid Black Glass that supposedly will Deodex your system while it installs the theme ...
Hello everyone,
I have used the GreenDevDroid theme as the base due to its animations (Thanks to giveme13s) and did a quickfix of the aspects that I felt to be not too appealing.
Changes:
1. Changed the green notification bar to black and did a few minor modifications to the notification area
2. Changed boot animation from the flipping coin to 'Android Particles 1'
3. Changed system font to Comfortaa
4. Replaced the battery indicator with circular battery (Version I)
Screenshots: Attached (Blanked out a few areas )
Instructions:
1. Copy zip file to sdcard
2. Boot into recovery
3. Make a NAND backup
4. Flash zip file (it is signed)
Download:
multiupload.com/IOMI1GQSNS
Notes:
I am using a modified void #delta rom but I presume that the theme would work with other roms. In case you only want the circular battery, you may use the framework-res.apk from this theme or just pick-up the relevant png files within it.
will try it now on lol rom..feedback later..
edit:
its working on lol rom..i love the boot animation and the effects
tnx mate!
Thanks got you did it!!!Iwas trying all night to do it without result. Thank you!
Doesnt work for me on stock rom. Errors appeared - cannot run LG home, cannot run market and so on. Had to do nandroid restore. Anyway thanks for your effort!
Exactly what was in my mind Thanks a ton
Works well on VOID ECHO.
Best theme i've seen so far, it's just what i wanted, black & green. And works great to.
I wish you could make another zip, exactly the same theme, but with the original font inside, the font you used is a little unreadable when it's small.
Try one of the fonts here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801160
I am using UBUNTU 10.10. Seems a little better. You just need to flash it from recovery.
And also, I thought the animations were too much of a distraction. Returned to standard animation.
Now it is just perfect.
Thank you so much guys.

I wonder why I hadn't seen that thread before, may be because I haven't spent too much time over here Anyway since I had already made zip files for the original font as well as for comfortaa, I have attached them to the first post.
Excellent Work.Thank you guys!!!
Thanks for this theme. There is no match for the original fonts(Personal opinion). Love the battery/bootimage.
thanks for the theme.. gosh there are tons of theme compatible with void.echo.
good job!
now i am just curious about window animations. is there an animation like the flip page in windows phone 7?
i think its cool to have that one too.
and i also have used some window animations in Ubuntu, like the beam-me-up-scottie kinda animation... when the window was liked beamed up to starship enterprise... you know those animations?
its also kewl to have that...
thanks and more power!
This is currently the best theme i get for my void.
Overall it is just so awesome.
Thumbs Up for the effort.
I am on void # echo, I am continously getting sdcard mount/unmount problem. By the way I am having a class 4 sdcard and it never had this issues.
i am reinstaling fresh void#echo and will update here, if it happens again.
Good work man, I love you theme.
nice theme dude
love it
i tried your framework-res.apk because i only wanted the circular battery, but it seems that the file had more modifications that that. Anyway, love the change, but it seems that mi clock en the top bar cant be seen cause thar bar is now black as the clock font.
How can i solve this?
Thnks man!!
Nice themes.. thank you.

Hey just wondering if anyone might know as to where I would be able to change the hue color that is around the recent apps when opened on left side of screen. Would like to change it from being black in ICS, I'm sure that honey comb had pretty much the same setting for this. ANy help is appreciated.
This is in the system UI.APK.. there are lots of icons .png files in there in different folders.. There is a Thread i read here on xda.. I do not think it was in this forum .it was a thread about honeycomb.
I do know you need to be rooted or BE Fairly skilled with adb. I did a search with luck on finding the thread i read. There are also in the themes and apps thread on here some stuff about doing this.
Sorry I am not much help.. Google search is your Best bet.
As Erica said, these options are in the SystemUI.apk
You can unzip the apk, to a folder on your hard drive, and modify the images as you desire (provided you keep the original file-name and PNG format)
Normally, you can change the colors in photoshop or Gimp.
If you wish to modify the xml files, then you will need to de-compile the apk. The good thing, is that PNG's are not really compiled, which makes them relatively easy to alter. After changing the images, just re-zip the entire directory structure, keeping the original file-name, and rename to SystemUI.apk (not systemUI.apk.zip)
Yeah I have gone through and change what I thought was the hue color image in both systemui/res/drawable-mdpi and systemui/res/drawable-sw600dp-mdpi. But the changing the color of that icon had no effect on the hue. Also I would think that it must be a .9.png image but those are not really panning out atm. I have got a dev of themes to get me his apktool he has been using for ICS framework and am going through the .xml files. But I don't have my tab with me a work today so will have to test more when I get home.
Hi there, as the title said, i would like to know if there is a way to resize a lockcreen (took directly from the OPO), i've found a flashable zip and after the reboot it's look like i've disabled my lockscreen, but i not. When i lock my phone and unlock it again, it shows my launcher.
So in fact i don't really knows if this is due to the wrong size of the launcher (Which have xxhdpi and mdpi drawable folders in it) Or if it's just a buggy lockscreen.... Any ideas ?
up.
Up.
up.
title pretty much explains itself. i have not been able to change the boot animation. im running 4.4 google play edition rom.
More details please. What boot animation are you trying to use in place of the GPE one? What happens when you do make the change? Where are you copying the new boot animation to?
euhm well i tried apps and manual copying. i tried placing gif, zips and qmp? files in /system/media and some other locations. i tried allot of apps and explainations but nothing worked. when i made the change it either didnt change or it went completly black. im a root noob btw but fast learner sorry for the little detail and thanks for the quik reply!
You cannot use QMG boot animations in the Google Play Edition, Cyanogenmod, or AOSP ROMs as QMG only works in Touchwiz. The only boot animations you can use are in the ZIP format, such as the one linked in my signature. Instructions on how to manually install it can be found on my boot animation's thread, but in short, you use a file manager, copy the new boot animation to where the old one is, change permissions, and reboot.
so tried exactly what you said and it would not work. in my /system/media therr are only qmg files.(and now the zip) now i think i have the wrong location. like its the location from the original ma from the samsung system.
If it didn't work, you're not on a Google Play Edition ROM. Please take some screenshots of your About Phone listing in Settings and post them so I can see them.
