Help (Samsung Galaxy S4) - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hallo all
Today I accidentally deleted all my folders on my Samsung Galaxy S4....
After my phone turned off because of low battery I charged my phone and restarted it.
Now when my phone is starting, im getting the error Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please Select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
I tried to install the Stock S4 rom and tried it with the PIT file but it's telling me FAIL! (Auth).
I don't know what to do know, it's an unbranded version.
Please help me! Thanks!

I tried that and it's saying i9505 does not support initialising
Edit: I can only boot into phone with CF Autoroot. But when I got to download mode then and try to install my stock rom, I get the FAIL! auth again. And then I have to boot with CF Autoroot again....

Can u boot into recovery or flash a custom one, then flash a custom rom ?

Well CF auto deleted the CW recovery, so it's on the stock recovery now.
I'm trying to install the CW recovery now.
One more question, I live in the Netherlands and my phone is dutch, is it possible to install the stock rom from another country on the i9505 or only the PHN(dutch) one?

In order to try to help you, I cannot find some basic info like this:
1. What stock rom file are you trying to flash and you get fail? (Complete name of the file)
2. What rom did you have installed before the problem?
3. Which version of Odin are you using to flash the rom, and which version to flash cfautoroot?
Please, answer these questions and I am sure we will help you successfully.

Ok, other question, which stock ROM is AOSP GE 4.4 from Jamal rom based on?
And also, 3.09 is ok for flashing a rom, but if you are flashing cfautoroot with that version, you are doing it bad. Cfautoroot must be flashed with Odin 1.85, the version that chainfire (the cfautoroot author) includes inside the zip for cfautoroot. Other versions can damage the partitions. But anyway, let cfautoroot apart until you fix your problem and get boot into a stock rom. Please, answer my question.

Buf... how did you wanted to flash that? ? Anyway, if you are right and it is based on a mj5 stock rom (Android 4.3), this means you have a 4.3 bootloader and you are trying to flash a prior version. If this agree, you will see in download mode at top left of the screen the warranty bit (knox bit) set to 0x0 or 0x1. Is it?
If so, if you are trying to flash that file you posted it will give you fail, it would be normal. You must search for a 4.3 stock rom and flash it with Odin 3.09. You can use mk8 PHE from Spain for example.
But before do it, check if you have warranty bit.

Yes that's right I got a warranty bit: kernel on the leftside when my galaxy s4 boots.
And in the download mode:
knox kernel lock 0x0
knox warranty void 0x1
Edit:
I installed the germany 4.3 android stock rom MK8 on my phone and that's working atm. What is the difference between MJ and MK?
Is there any possibility to go back to the Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 unbranded stock kernel? I got another kernel installed now but I don't know how to go back to the origional one. <---- FIXED THIS
Only problem left now is that I can't find the Netherlands (PHN) 4.3 Android stock rom because hotfile is down -_- Any other way to get the Area PHN stock rom?

I'm glad you finally fixed your problem. You was trying to flash a 4.2.2 rom over a 4.3 bootloader what fails. Because this it is important everyone with a problem like this includes in his first post all concerning his rom...
To get a different rom you should wait until sammobile upload all the files into a new server, they are working in that new...

I look at some forums and when you have the KNOX 0x1 warranty bit samsung will only fix your hardware and not your software.

It sounds logical. Once you get 4.3 bootloader and flashed a custom ROM, your warranty bit got increased... (I also have 0x1 because I rooted it and it isn't a problem for me...)
I use to advice that with a new device as our S4 it is better to work with stock roms and kernel for some months. Once custom development kernels and roms get better than stock one, you can start to experiment with custom kernels and roms... In all my LG P970, Samsung S2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 after some custom kernels and roms, I use right now CM10.1 in all devices; I am sure my S4 will ends its days with CM11 after trying some kernels in stock roms, but now it is so young...

HELP!! Odin failure

Hi everyone. I was trying to flash a firmware with Odin 3.04 and it was "fail" all the time and then it appeared a message in the phone saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I don't know what to do. I can't turn it off, I just can get to the download mode and it shows this message.
Help me please!!
Take the battery off, put it in again, go to download mode then and try flash OTHER firmware. :highfive:

No, It won't kill your phone.
Is your phone a S4 I9500 or a S4 I9505?
What firmware were you trying to flash?

It's I9505, and I was trying to flash MH1 (non company Spanish, without knox, 4.2.2). Now I'm waiting for a firmware to download and I'm going to try another procedure that I've found in a spanish forum. It's MF8 I think. If I can't solve this, I will take it to the technical service on monday.
If your phone had a later version of software (with KNOX bootloader) installed before, then downgrading through Odin will fail. Is that the case?

1. I9505 must be flashed with odin 3.09 (except cfautoroot)
2. anyway, if you have actually android 4.3, installing any stock 4.2.2 with any odin version will fail.

Currently I have 4.2.2, so theoretically if I flash 4.3 the problem would be fixed, right??
Btw, probably I will have to flash a firmware with Knox, is it possible to install roms (like cyanogenmod) with Knox activated??

If you actually have 4.2.2 without knox bootloader (are you really sure of this?) and you are trying to flash another 4.2.2 without knox bootloader, you shouldn't have any problem with odin 3.09 (others odin versions could fail in some situations...)

Why would you flash a 4.3 stock rom ? you should flash a 4.2.2 pre-rooted rom then install a triangle away to reset the binary and then install Philz recover (any recovery) then download any custom rom you want . and Stay away from flashing any stock 4.3 via odin because your gonna get infected! have a nice day.

Knox kernel lock: 0x0
Knox warranty void: 0x0
csb-config-lsb: 0x30
write protection: enable
sw rev. check fail: fused: 2, binary: 1
That's it. I've tried with a technical service package (pit, bootloader, csc, phone/modem, pda) with odin 3.07 and nothing happened.

Yes, you have the first knox rom which Samsung published (a 4.2.2 room with knox bootloader) , so you can only flash stock 4.3 roms, otherwise odin will give you error. Download and flash last 4.3 rom using odin 3.09 better than 3.07 (3.07 is full compatible with i9500, but isn't with i9505, 3.09 is).

Odin 3.09 was specifically made for LTE version of S4 (i9505). You could have inconsistent issues on any partition such as baseband partition.

[Q] Questions before updating SM-N900

Well, as i am really a new user in this thing I just have a few questions regarding the upcoming update to 4.4 in my Note 3 (N9000)
I have modified like everything in my stock rom and i really want to keep on going in stock roms, so the 4.4 is coming and i am collecting the tools that i need to update and have root once more.
I am a rooted user using 4.3 in Samsung Stock Rom, also have xposed framework, superSU, i do change the bootanimation, also have CWM as my recovery, volume tweak and another little things so....
1. When the 4.4 for N900 get released, do i need to do something to flash it through ODIN or just flash it directly?
2. I know that i need to wait for the upcoming CF-Auto Root to be compatible with my N900 and i know also i need to wait for an update of CWM to use is again as my recovery... am i correct?
3. If i backup all my apps with the configs (i use ROM TOOLBOX PRO) in 4.3, will i be able then to restore all the configs of that apps in 4.4?
4. Is there any chance to flash 4.4 without wiping or wipe is a must to get better performance?
I was reading something related that the new version of Samsung Rom has a new Bootloader and i really don't get it, i mean, don't understand if i need to do something with this thing or it came just with the version of the software...
Anything else that i nee to know before flashing the new 4.4?
Sorry for my bad english, i am from Argentina and is really hard to me, lol and thanks all for taking your time an patience!
YaM
Anyone :C?

You should avoid flashing 4.4 XEO for the moment on non-EU N9005 since it is unclear at this point if that can work - there are at least 2 reports that is does NOT work on Hong-Kong versions and you are left with a soft-bricked device.

If it gets released for your particular device then there's no need to worry about anything. Just use Kies to update it for you.

I thought you're asking if you have to do something special to flash it so I said that just use Kies and no worries.
If you want to flash 4.4 through odin then it doesn't matter what bootloader you have right now as it will be upgraded to the latest one otherwise your phone will soft brick. I believe you can even flash the official one from Poland if you can't wait to have a taste of Kit Kat.

Yessss thats the answer that i was looking!
So... as soon as i update i will loose my recovery, my root and the actual bootloader right? So i need to re do all of that.
Also it will install all the apps again right??
And no i cant install the Poland one because it is for the N9005 and i am using N9000

Yes you will loose your recovery, root and bootloder and you have to redo them.
It depends on the released rom you're going to flash. I read that the official poland release didn't erased the data and apps of those people that flashed it on top of their current 4.3 firmware. On the other hand, the leaked poland firmware erased everything.

Official firmware whitout Knox

Gals sorry if this was asked before, really sorry... i dont want to bother you..
I have some issues whit TWRP, the backup that i made of my official firmware (4.2.2 whitout knox) doesnt work.
The problem is that i installed a custom and now i dont know how to go back.
I know that in sammobile i can find the official 4.2.2 but ¿there is any way to install a 4.3 o 4.4.2 (oficial whitout knox)?
My head hurts.. after reading and reading i dont know what to do... i cant understand the modems and baseband things...
Cheers for the help
First, it depends on what firmware you're currently on what you can and can not do. Second, 4.3 and 4.4 both have Knox and there is none without it.

Thanks for the reply jd.
Right now im using C-Rom, i went from 4.2.2 stock to this custom (i did not flash anything else like modems or basebands).
Everything works fine but i want to return to stock.
So, ¿exist a stock rom (knox free) flashable vía twrp or CWM?
As i understand you.. ¿The only way to have 4.3 or 4.4 stock its vía official firmware whit knox?

If you want to return to stock, I'd user Odin and flash the 4.2.2 firmware. You can get that at sammobile.com

Can I install CM on non-KNOX bootloader?

Currently I'm on a Pre-rooted stock ROM and would really like to update as stock OTA is not working.
Info:
Model : GT-I9505
Android : 4.2.2
Baseband : I9505XXUBMGA
Kernel : 3.4.0-1081224
Build number : JDQ39.I9505XXUBMGA
So, I don't have the newer bootloader with KNOX yet.
Further, I already installed CWM 6.0.4.4 recovery
My questions:
Can I simply install CM10.2.1 or CM 11.2 through CWM?
Or do I have to update the bootloader first or does it include in CM?
Is there a catch in updating my phone concerning KNOX and chance of bricking?
I'm I stuck on CM or can I always revert to my backup of rooted stock 4.2.2?
Thanx in advance for any help.
I searched, but couldn't find correct answers...
Yes you can just install cm but if you try to install newer touchwiz roms then you need to change your modem. And wrong section....

So KNOX is all about stock Samsung ROMs?
And I don't need an updated bootloader for all other ROMs like CM and OMEGA and can switch between them without issues?
yes.

Knox is basically a counter to counter rooters. You should be able to flash any ROM like normal but there may be some changed needed to be done for the modem. I'm sure there are multiple threads about the i9505 modems...

bootloop
Hi all,
Unfortunately I ended in a bootloop. I was on 4.4.2 stock with root and knox 0x0. Followed the steps using Mobile Odin PRO (everroot unchecked, rom loaded without BL/CP) and the Aroma installer started. I checked "Rom Base" and "Wipe data" options...installation finished 100% and rebooted. Then the bootloop, I tried removing battery and power on again, same. I then wanted to go in recovery to wipe data again but it loops also when the text "Recovery Booting" is displayed. It can go only in Download Mode. I hope there is a method to not delete everything on internal SD because I've many whatsapp pics on it.
Before flashing with Mobile ODIN, I had the software update icon to install lollipop but I always postponed, could it have affected?
At this point could you please suggest what can I do?
UPDATE: Got it working again after installing BL and CP with Odin PC.
Tnx man
For a great rom
Hi,
sorry, not sure about this, so I'll ask before I brick my device:
I upgraded my rooted stock Android 4.4.2 with towelroot, Knox 0x0, now on 5.0 BNL2 since last week thanks to this ROM also with root and 0x0 with Odin Mobile Pro.
Now there are some fixes in 5.0.1 (my smartphone is working like a charm on BNL2 anyway), but if I got this right, Mobile Odin Pro does not yet work on 5.0...!? So, can I just flash BNL7 over BNL2 from PC without any issues? Do I have to wipe again? Will I have to update Modem/CSC/anything else again?

BNL7 is not 5.0.1, is just a newer 5.0 firmware, and in order to keep Knox 0x0, you need to downgrade to 4.4.2 kitkat (wipe needed) and then with Mobile Odin flash the newest version of this awesome DevBase...
Regards.

Hi .. I just tried to flash this rom but I got stuck on recovery booting in blue and nothing happens. . I also tried the polan stock non rooted rom and got the same problem.. can someone help me here.. coming from stock 4.4.2 ..
When we are in the verion 5.0 and want reflasear a later version with root and Knox = 0:
I am struck not downgrade directly to 4.4.2 before June in which to put the root directly without changing the kernel. Do these versions are not available? Or there is any impediment that I don't know.

No wipe data needed if you are on Lollipop already
Enjoy

Hi'
Damage but too bad. Anyway, the ROM works like a charm
I tried to flash the BLN9 with Mobile Odin Pro v4.20
But MOP tells me:
"This is not an OTA/Update Zip file!
Zip files containing partitions are
not supported. Do you want to
extract the Zip file instead?"
MD5 checksum is correct.

The Problem was SuperSU. May not be installed before flashing with MOP
go back to 4.42

IMPORTANT NOTE to KNOX 0x0 users (on Lollipop already):
DO NOT install the ROM using Mobile Odin Pro 4.20 - it doesn't work after updating to Lollipop anymore! More info HERE. At this moment, to keep KNOX 0x0, you have to downgrade to 4.4.2 first (wipe data needed), then root the phone (HERE), and then install BNL9 DevBase (wipe data needed again) using Mobile Odin Pro 4.20
Hopefully @Chainfire will update the MOP soon...

I have the BNL9 install and with knox 0x0
So if I need to install again your rom or your next one , I have to flash the G900FXXU1ANE2 first, with KERNEL_G900FXXU1ANE2.tar.md5 and CP_G900FXXU1ANE2.tar.md5 and direct make the root before to install odin and the new room ? like this I wouldn't tuch knox..
Sorry for my question it's new for me, i used to flash by CWM my old Galaxy s2..
Thanks
No NJ1 or better NK7 then downgrade the kernel to NE2 and root, superSU, install MOP and flash BLN9 devbase. Already said at another place, on a french forum
