Verizon LG G2 screen keeps timing out - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Most times I press the power button on my Verizon LG G2 and whatever I am doing, the screen times out. It happens several tiems (about 10-20 times) until it stops and I can properly use my phone. When this happens, the Knockon (tap tap) feature does not turn on my phone, though it can turn it off, so if my phone doesn't turn on by tap tap, I know that it will time out. The display option is clicked on always on, and I even tried several third party apps to disable screen time out, though it still happens, making my phone unusable. Is there any app or fix for this?

try uninstalling the last 5 apps you've installed. also you can do a full backup and then the reset in case your system is corrupt.

Make sure u don't have your finger or anything near the proximity sensor. U only have to have something close to it to cause this problem. If it persists and u r sure there is nothing near it then it may be malfunctioning.

The phone is more likely to turn off if i do touch it, however it will still time out even if i dont touch it. What i forgot to mention, is that if it times out while in a call, the screen wont turn on and i have to reboot the pphone. I tried factory reset with no effect. From research there was apparently an update after the release of the phone, but it ddidnt fix my issue. Is there no way to have the screen not turn off a all?

screen does not shut off after timeout

so I put the dimming to be after 30 seconds, which works.
however I put it to shutdown the scree after one minutes, however it stays on forever, unless I physically press the hang up key, the screen will be on all the time.
the other question I have.
2- When I search on google, and press on one of the results in opera it takes me to the definition page, rather than the actual result that I wanted
3- is there a fix for LED notification, I installed the cab to fix that, but it didnt make a difference.
4- the pink spot at the middle, I searched around but didnt see any real solution
can anyone help please
regards
While I can't offer any help, I can feel your pain! I too am experiencing this f**ing event! I placed in my pocket before boarding for a 6 hour flight yesterday and found it still powered on when the flight had ended. I had just enough power to make and receive a call! Great.
I've double/triple checked my settings after this same thing happened to me previously! WTF!
edved.
i had the same problem what you need to do is to change the screen light setting in the settings menu

Ok. I'll try your suggestion, but please tell me what the screen light setting should be?
Thanks.
just go to the backlight settings, tap ok and it seems to be fixed..
(but offcourse check if is set to turn off after a minute or whatever your needs are)
I experienced this yesterday.. just like in normal windows, some functions just stop working with no particulair reason.. I don't really worry about it.. probably fixed in the next rom.. same sometimes happens with the screen lock, sometimes it's gone.. also after reboot, althought I find it more convient that way, it can be fixed by locking the device manually.. this does proof we can disable the device lock somewhere, I really don't need it in the case I use, the power button is enough..
good tip to always push the power button before putting the device away.. saves a lot of battery too then to wait for the minute before it powers of by itself.. the large screen is the battery's biggest consumer.. this way you also don't have to trust the automatic power off.
problem is pushing the power is not enough.
because if there were any even that woke the phone up, it will never shut down the screen unless you saw it, and do it manually

no the automatic power down is seperate from the screen lock, but for some reason they connected it with the automatic power down and left the options to choose out.

issus on the unlock screen

feel lag on when is unlocking. did any one having a same problem with me??
please delete this post...
The unlock swipe would lag for the following reasons:
1. Your wifi was turned on but is off because of screen being off. You turned on the screen which makes the phone re-enable wifi and connect to a network. This process will lag the swipe animation.
2. You used some kind of app (ie. JuiceDefender) that would disable APN (3G) when your screen is off. Turning the screen on again will make the phone to try to reconnect to 3G and this will also lag the swipe animation.
3. You just turned on your phone and because things are still loading at startup, doing the swipe will lag.
Tip: Try to wait for 5 seconds after turning the screen on and then do the swipe motion. It should go back to normal.
If none of that applies to you, do a factory reset =)
this is my second time to hard reset it but still the same.
I often find that swiping doesn't unlock the phone; the arrow won't go all the way to the edge of the screen (it sometimes just stops halfway). When that happens, I press the power button to lock the screen, then try the process again. 9 times out of 10 it'll work fine the second time.
This happens when the WiFi is off, and I am not using any APN software, nor have I just switched the phone on.
It doesn't really bother me, unless this happens when a call comes in, and I can't answer it! (it often takes me a few swipes to answer a call, and I have to swipe it slowly and carefully)

you might have a problem with your screen where some parts wont respond to your touch
download any drawing programs " i find magic marker " is the best from the market place. its free. and tap dots all over your screen, if there is/ are parts that doesnt response to your tap from the first time, that means u have problem with the screen and its not accepting your touch input. which is why your swipe doesnt go all the way sometimes.
Yes there is lag on the unlock screen. I see it as just bad programming by SE.

My swype keep changing direction, anyone nows how to set it to a particular side?
@mirdones - it changes sides when you start with your finger at the top of the swipe arc and slide your phone across the screen (left to right or right to left)..
@everyone - my swipe unlock occasionally stops about 3 quarters of the way along.. all I do is re-swipe from where it stopped and it's fine - that said, it doesn't happen as much now that I have stopped using task killers and startup auditor.
I find that instead of a slow swipe more of a flick works well for me.
Does anyone know if its possible to disable the se lock and just use the android one?

[Q] phone locks during call so I can not hook it

I am using the European Tab, but that probably makes no difference.
For security, I lock the phone automatically after 3 minutes of inaction. This works fine for all apps except phone. Strangely, after dialling (or after picking up a call) the phone first turns off the screen, and briefly thereafter locks the device, within 10 seconds. I can continue the call, but as the screen is off, I can not hang up, unless I first switch it on and enter the password.
I have not found a parameter to influence this behavior. But I know it is not related to the proximity sensor, as the effect happens the same way even when not moving the device from the desk.
Is this a confirmed behavior or does anyone know a cure? It's ok if the screen goes dark, and even if you must turn on via power button, but the password?!
Thanks for any help,
Rolf

It happens to me lately after I flashed a new Rom but I highly doubt that has anything to do with it...it feels like a proximity sensor issue, and a autolock issue as well . I am Clueless sorry

Screen Wake On Calls

Hi, I just got my Galaxy s8 about 3 weeks ago. I've had very little in the way of problems with it. Well, except one thing... Everytime I make a call on it the screen will wake up at random. It doesn't matter if it's a call from the installed phone app or hangouts. I thought this might have something to do with the apps edge so I disabled that. Didn't fix it. I thought it might be the home button so I put it on the lowest sensitivity. Didn't fix it. I frequently call while laying in bed (who wants to hold a phone up all the time?) so the phone is between my head and a pillow. When the screen wakes up it clicks and than shuts off after five seconds because I turned on the keep off when in pocket or whatever it's called in settings. Before I turned that on the screen would stay on and buttons would get pressed usually ending up with me ending a call. I still think it's the home button but I'm not sure how to fix it. It anyone has any ideas or has the same issue please let me know.

Proximity sensor is working though.. I have no way to test it properly but if I place my hand near it the screen goes black and when I move it it lights up again. It also doesn't make the click
Had this bug on every device
So it's just a bug? No fix currently? I'm just wondering because I haven't seen anyone talking about this specific issue before ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm also suffering from this issue

LG g2 screen randomly turns black

Hello,
I know its old model, but i really like my phone, so i would like to keep using it.
The problem is, that my phone screen randomly turns black, sometimes when i unplug charger, sometimes when i put it down somewhere, sometimes when im just using it or talking to someone. Phone itself is still on and i can answer calls if i swipe in correct place etc. Force restart can only fix it, but sometimes it takes some time until it turns on correctly. I suspect it has something to do with proximity sensor. I tried changing distance in hidden menu, but it didnt seem to help at all.
Is there a way to turn it off or somehow fix it? I couldnt find setting to turn it off tho. i dont mind if screen does not turn off when on call, i just want it to be on when i need it. I cant really open it fully as i dont have screwdwiver small enough atm.
Any suggestions?
