bump...

Had the same problem, dfs shows write into nv items successful but read again gives the original state.
auto prime in his LS970 repair post says needs to flash zeroed efs first then connect to disgnostics port to be able to flash in dfs. I did not flash zeroed efs and when I put my g2 into diag mode and connect to windows I can only see usb serial port but no disgnostics port. I am wondering how to make this diagnostics port show up so I can connect to it and try to flash again.

Dialing ##3424# then enable diag only bring up these 2 ports & only one is read able in such programs. But it doesn't lock in the values, we need to flash the zeroed efs to be able to hold the values. DON'T FLASH THAT ZIP, I'M PRETTY SURE IT WILL HARD BRICK YOUR DEVICE!!!

that's right. There must be a way to hold the values after you change that and we have yet to figure out how. I was able to flash through this usb serial port for note 2 and s3, didn't know why or how this doesn't work for the lg phones.

Yup me too, lg phones have to be zeroed out first. That's what I had to do for my friends LS-970 to even take the flash. I just want my phone back up & running.

I followed the directions that qwertyegg posted on howardforums...but after the first flash the esn just sticks at all 0000000s and the meid keeps changing to some weird number. I cannot get it to change to the right settings and hold to save my life. I could really use some help if tegezee or qwertyegg have time to help me fight my ls980.

Check out the post from qwertyegg for the most up to date info I am aware of.
I can't post links yet but its on howardforums and page 97 of the Getting-Epic-4G-Running-on-Sprint-SERO-Legacy-Plans-With-HTC-Touch-Pro-2 thread.
That has the directions I used but be careful, i haven't gotten them to work and have all 0000000s now.

I did. I'm going to try to restore it after work and I guess try from scratch again...
Can you double check those directions; there are some steps and specifics missing I think.
Like: step 6, what size are we reading eeprom? step 16, I can't pick load from file under all nv items, only eeprom, is that correct? step 21: is it pointless to read meid after writing it until after the whole process? no matter how many times i write it, it always reads incorrectly.
And again, thank you, I really appreciate you're help.

I would have to unflash my phone to figure out how I did it but those directions are pretty much how I did it. The phone rebooted & my imei changed to my meid, & everything fell in place. There is a more straight forward way to it but that worked for me after like 4 days of trying.

Alright, successfully restored efs and I got a little farther but it is still not working. The IMEI and MIN are holding solid it seems...NAM1 and 2 seem ok. But MIED and ESN just will not hold. Tried to force the change a few ways other than those directions and still nothing. Anyone had any success and have any suggestions? Anyone do it in a different order?
thanks

SPRINT Activation Bypass

FOR SPRINT GALAXY TABs - DEACTIVATION OF SPRINT ACTIVATION MESSAGE ON BOOT and ACTIVATE DEVICE NOTIFICATIONS.
Ok well the verizon method of bypassing the activation everytime you start the tab doesnt work (vol up once, vol down twice, etc. etc.)
I used the 2nd post in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866162
to try and deactivate the activation screen, but it bricked my Sprint Tab. I had to use the rom available here which messes up GPS and modem. But anyway foxmeister mentioned why not just go to the app and delete, freeze, it.
1) I used Root explorer and went to:
/system/app/
2) put the folder in R/W mode (look at top for button)
3) now look for -
sprintadroidextension.apk
4) long hold press it, either copy it and paste it in another folder as backup.
5) go back to /system/app/ and long hold press sprintadroidextension.apk
again and Delete it.
6) put the folder back in R/O mode.
Now restart and you should not see anymore activation messages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =]
Thank you to : foxmeister, sirmacbeth, rkmj
RKMJ stated you can try to use Titanium Backup and freeze the app instead of deleting it. I just deleted it and it WORKS =].
I also saved a backup in another folder so in case i need the app i'll have it.
I'll try to upload the apk for anyone who needs it later.
I made a separate topic on this because 1) i tried it and it worked 2) the other thread is confusing and can lead you to brick your sprint tab fast.
Finally!!! Something that finally appears to work!
Thank you!
Sent from my Galaxy Tab.
Thanks

R/W button?
I can't STAND the activation prompt... until today, I just put the tab in Airplane mode, and rebooted. That got rid of it, but I have to manually turn on the WiFi every time i boot it. I'm in position, but can't for the life of me find the R/W mode button, or a way to change the permissions... lil' help please?
Thanks for this! Whether ot works for me or not, I HAVE learned something!
=IP IHI II IL=
is your tab rooted? Are you use root explorer?
when you get over to the /system/app directory, on the upper left/middle side of the screen you'll see a button that might say either R/O or R/W
Click that button, it will switch from read only mode to read/write mode.
It might say Mount R/O or Mount R/W, i forgot exactly how it was.
I don;t have my tab on me, sent it into samsung because I did some stupid stuff nd lost my GPS capability.\
Cheers.
Worked good for me. Thanks!
I'm still going to use my G Tab in Airplane mode for the most part however. I have a hunch it's draining battery when it's locked onto the EVDO network, and there's signal bars in the status bar at the top of the screen.

What is this activation prompt? I have a Sprint Tab and have never seen it.
I'm sure there was some sort of activation the very first time I used the device, but certainly not every time I turn it on.
after deleting the file with root explorer it came back again.
how to delete the file? the tab is rooted
Ok, so I did everything and when I delete the file it comes right back. As soon as I go back to the system folder it seems the program regenerates itself.
Now I am having a problem with the R/O mode switch. When I first open the program I can change it to Mount r/w. However, as soon as I get into the system folder and the app folders the mount r/o button kind of greys out and when I click it nothing happens.
any ideas?
Thanks! This worked well for me. Only change was I used Super Manager rather than Root Explorer to delete the file (since it was free and on the Market for Sprint). If you don't set the directory to R/W is seems to work but dfoes not actually delete the file.
My question now is do I have to be concerend with firmware updates. Will they reset this or fail to apply? TIA
I think I answered this myself - Can't get OTA firmware updates and if you try it tries to activate again!
Future firmware updates are problematic too I hear - they will attempt tp prevent people hacking or rooting the device.

Yes, you can get Titanium Backup for free through the market and freeze the app. Also, for anyone having trouble deleting the app, freezing it through Titanium Backup will produce the same result of removing the activation prompt.
Bump for Woot buyers.
I've been having this problem on my Sprint Galaxy S III. I tried this method but it didn't work - activation came up again right after reboot. I tried searching for activation disabling on the GSIII and this was the only thing I could find. Anybody have any ideas on how to get the SIII to can the activation screen?
ADDED
I tried moving the sprint_installer.apk to my newly created backup folder where I also moved the sprintandroidextension.apk. I checked and that file did not regenerate as it did for another user in this discussion. Both are in the Backup sub-folder I created in the /system/app/ folder. Could it still be seeing these .apk's in there and loading them anyway? I've even picked up the paid version of Titanium Backup so I could try freezing the file (free version won't let you reeze but I use TB enough I figured $3.99 was more than reasonable for use I'd already gotten from it whether it helped this situation or not) but for some reason, it refuses to see the sprintandroidextension.apk file at all but I was able to freeze the Sprint-Installer.apk but it didn't appear to have any effect whatsoever.

[MOD] Custom Boot Screen (for Gingerbread ROM's)

Well I had been getting asked a lot lately about the GB ROM's and my original boot screen packages that I had created where I modified a param.lfs to contain no boot image and allowed a script to place whatever image you wanted in it's place for a custom boot logo. In the past I had edited the param.lfs for the AT&T i897 bootloaders which does not work with the GB boot loaders.
This is not the boot animation, nor the kernel logo, but the first logo your phone displays when it's turned on.
Anyhow, I re-wrote the param.lfs to allow a blank for the logo.jpg that Gingerbread calls upon in the bootloader and it works great. So for all of you that used my boot screen package in the past for i897, i9000 and t959 2.1, 2.2 and 2.2.1 ROM's, here it is again for 2.3+ ROM's.
This should also work fine for Vibrant but I will check in case any T959 people are scoping this out.
These will not be compatible with CM7 (due to the proprietary fs used on param.lfs)...
Big thanks to TRusselo for being a BETA tester, tossing in the latest ODIN package and writing the readme as well as contributing the JPEG's offered in the package. I decided to keep the Canadian boot screens for you northern neighbors on the Roger's network up there...
Donations are always welcome but not required, press THANKS, follow me on Twitter or like my cause on FaceBook.

Done, soft-bricked (Odin failed) but got back into DL mode and re-flashed. I've got the i896 logo up there now.
Thanks a lot!
yeah odin sometimes does that... the newer odin does that LESS.. lol.
i soft bricked a few times using this.
just keep forcing the params until it passes, no need to go back to stock!
with GB button combos, and the soft brick, i found:
Vol Down + USB = Download mode
Vol Down + Pwr = Soft brick screen.
hope that helps.
Just an fyi to anyone not familiar with it, but you will have to make sure you have your screen active when running the batch file so that you can click Allow to the superuser permission request when it attempts to mount the partition.
This wasn't noted in the readme, someone without much experience might miss it.
Just a question but why are there some screens with "AM HUNG" as the name and not Samsung?

[GUIDE] How to edit APN on unlocked Boost Mobile LG Stylo 2 LS775 (and others?)

1 - Extract MAINROOT.zip to your adb folder.
2 - Open a Command Prompt as administrator in your adb folder.
3 - Type in step1.bat in command prompt and hit enter.
4 - You should now be in an adb shell prompt, type in run-as con and hit enter.
5 - You now have shell access and you can tweak the android system with these permissions but tweaking the barebones of the linux kernel will be impossible without a full root. Selinux is the culprit.
6 - You can use the package manager (pm) to block apps and settings command (settings) in this adb shell prompt to tweak the workings of android or use the activity manager to access the hidden sprint and lg menus to change APNs and tweak CDMA radio control.
7 - In the adb shell prompt type in pm list packages and hit enter.
8 - From the list of packages find one that has system activities we'd be looking to access and tweak such as com.lge.hiddenmenu.
9 - Type in dumpsys package com.lge.hiddenmenu and hit enter and in the list you will see activities which can be started, such as com.lge.hiddenmenu/.Power.TherDaeMitigation.
10 - Type in am start -n com.lge.hiddenmenu/.Power.TherDaeMitigation to start the activity.
11 - You'll want to disable thermal mitigation to boost the raw performance of the phone.
12 - Repeat steps 7 -10 to access any activity you find interesting and wish to tweak.
13 - Hint : am start -n com.lge.SprintHiddenMenu/.iot.IotHiddenMenuMain is a good one many people were hoping to access.
Thanks to @anthonykb. He was on ZV6 firmware version.
I no longer have a stylo 2 so I am limited in what help I can provide - I just asked @anthonykb for permission to post this guide here because I knew how much I wanted to do this when I did have it
This method may also work on other phones such as LG X Power (someone care to try?)
It also might open a path to find a way for permanent root for those on firmware higher than ZV3?...
Can i add GSM apns with this? I have a LG Stylo 2 LS775 ZV6

ask @anthonykb he will know more than me
Hi.
I'd appreciate your input on my situation - unlocked Boost LG ls775a on Android 7, Z8, - I have SPC code, I have access to h*n menu.
T-Mobile SIM - only LTE mode works. I can send SMS or browse internet, but regular call does not work. If I press call #, - the phone permanently attempts to call, no error, - you can switch to other apps. T-Mobile Fast APN.
I tried to turn on VoLTE RF in h*n menu, but no luck.
I believe the phone might be still configured to route calls thru CDMA (Boost legacy). Can you give me general approach on how to de-couple from CDMA or any other ideas to make regular calls work?
Also, if I switch from LTE mode, say, to GSM/WCDMA auto, - nothing works at all (no calls, no internet, SMS - not attempted).
Next, I tried FreedomPop SIM (for ATT). FreedomPop registers thru WiFi. Then I turn off WiFi. In LTE mode - no internet, no calls (in FreedomPop calls routed thru Internet) are possible.
I read somewhere on XDA forums, that ATT doesnt allow LTE if MIED is not registered with them, so not registered phones work on slower-than-LTE protocol/speeds. Other phone works with FreedomPop, H+ is displayed next to connection quality bars, and ATT is displayed as network. Does it mean I need WCDMA working on the phone, and it somehow doesnt work?
I have menu similar to this t=2022763
Edit APN

US996 IMEI null - 0's - How Do I Fix THIS?

After doing an official LG Bootloader Unlock and installing TWRP, I accidentally restored the EFS partition from my other US996 when attempting to "clone" it (not the IMEI, though, of course).
First thing that happened was a RED exclamation triangle (instead of ORANGE) with CORRUPT message, no boot.
So, I used LGUP to upgrade and was back to stock, locked bootloader.
When I tried to "fastboot unlock unlock.bin", I got an error. The IMEI shown was all zeros and the message, naturally said "Invalid unlock.bin file".
I used the DirtySanta method to unlock/TWRP/SuperSU, but, even though I could get into TWRP recovery, in normal boot, the phone wants a secure boot password and gives me 22 of 30 tries left.
So, I did LGUP again and I'm back where i was before DirtySanta.
How do I fix THIS:?

Thanks, but... After spending over an hour, I can't get the diagnostic ports to show on my PC. I used HiddenMenuCall.apk to get to the service menu and enabled the ports on the phone, installed the port drivers and all other software in the guide except ADB platform tools (have it) and the video that shows the procedure to hex edit the file is impossible to follow because the command window is illegible.
Anyone want a useless US996?
Going through this crap just isn't worth the $132.50 the phone cost me. I'd just as soon buy another one. I only got it as a tester/backup so I don't screw up my good one by messing with ROMs.
Try Keypad *#546368#*996#-->SVC Menu-->CRCWIZARD Test-->(Auto MID tab) & try typing in your details there (IMEI - Wifi MAC - BT Address etc)

Have in mind this is just a temporary fix (you may need to re-apply after a full wipe).

I have my doubts, but I'll let you know. This one's just a test-toy anyway.
Thanks again.

Did a full wipe. All fields stay filled, unlock.bin still works. All better. Thanks again.

So you press MID WRITE? got to it by installing hidden menu app but nothing happens when pressing write. I only entered imei as I only have that now
Ok, now it worked after some messing around. entered imei from back of phone and the others from settings and it seems to stick but not radio still. Maybe it dos not have the right bands, I'm in Norway. But my VS995 and F800 have no radio problems
