Does anybody know of a list or site that lists existing tablets that have had Windows 8 running on them.
Or if you have a Windows tablet now and have tried the dev preview what has been your experience?
I ask because I'm hoping to invest in a decent Windows base tablet for purposes of upgrading to Windows 8 instead of buying a "certified" overpriced tablet. Hopefully we will see manufacturers releasing better drivers for existing devices if they are needed aswell.

i have installed win 8 on My wetab and It runs pretty well. It has Somme hickups Bud i think thats more to win8 not being completely ready For release.
I have the Lenovo S10-3t Netbook with the monitor that swings around and turns it into a tablet... It runs awesome on this thing.
If you want a good slate you should look into the Samsung Series 7 slate. It has been reviewed as one of the best windows slates. Unfortunately for pricing it is not that great it starts at $1099 and goes to $1399.
I ordered a Dell st2220t touch screen display a while back in anticipation of a beta (I know this isn't a beta but close enough). Hooked it up to a cheap dual core ATOM/ION2 nettop and it runs really great. Wished there were more apps to test out and really live in the touch environment but it works very well. It kind of sucks not to have flash in the metro browser but I won't be surprised if Chrome 100.0 (or whatever version Google has out by release) gets turned into a alternative touch metro browser with Flash support baked in.
Altogether I think it was a pretty cheap experiment and well worth it: $230 for the monitor which was a steal BTW (1080p, touch AND freaking IPS) plus $220 for the nettop.
Ever think the Galaxy 10.1 will accommodate it? I would rather W8 than HC at the moment
I have a HP Touchsmart tm2t tablet and win8 runs extremely well on it, the capacitive multitouch screen works like it should with win8 and I've really been enjoying it so far. I put in a different HDD so i can switch between win8 and win7 just to play/test win8 when i want to.

still far far far cheaper than a dell xt3, hp 2760p, Lenovo x220t for the power provided by the convertible
The difference between the current crop of slates and Microsoft slates/convertibles is that they're not toys. In that the tablet/convertible can stand in as a computer or a main PC
So what is being sought as a price isn't all that bad
That said I've tried on a hp 2740p, dell xt2, hp tm2, and Lenovo x220t. The installation is flawless and really extends the life of the dell xt2 and hp tm2, which are extremely old in comparison to the others I mentioned.
I was thinking that after playing with Windows 8 for so long on a convertible its hard to go to an ipad2, android tablet, hp touchpad because the experience and speed is just incredible. Even on the hp tm2, which is somewhere along 4 years old and it works extremely fast.
It works just fine on Iconia W500.

Iconia W500 is a slate running windows 7, just load it off an SD card and install... Did you think he loaded it on a Iconia A500, the A is for android so windows 8 current build wouldn't run on it...
W500 is available for a great price though, really thinking about it...
I have a Dell Inspiron Duo, and the dev preview runs really well. The performance is definitely smoother and faster than win7 on this device, which is very impressive!
The only issues I have so far are that windows 8 doesn't detect the accelerometer and compass in my device, let alone provide drivers. Although, this is a very early release to get developers used to the metro UI so its not really a problem as they'll probably be in the full release.
Secondly is that Microsoft office brings up compatibility errors and won't install (making do with the very capable open office suite) this will obviously be fixed though.
The one other niggle being with hardware not software. I wish Dell had put some volume hardware keys and a physical start button on the sides of the screen rather than having to open up to the keyboard each time I want to use them. (So this is really just my personal preference)
That being said, you can just swipe in from the right of the screen to bring up a start button and volume/ brightness settings among others.
So as far as upgrading win7 hardware, at the moment I would say nothing would really be stopping you. I would wait to see how windows 8 matures up to release before making a decision however.

I have an ASUS Ep-121 with Windows 8 loaded on it. It runs flawlessly. Better than it did with Windows 7 anyway.
I have been running WDP8 on my HP Slate with eveything working fine.
All the drivers installed fine as well.
Have had a couple of BSODs in two days, mostly when waking from sleep.
The automatic orientation rotation is super fast at least ten times faster and smoother than Win 7 !!
Overall a very good experience......

Yep, Win8 on a Slate runs so far better than Win7 it's like the Tablet goes to warp speed! (W500) If fact I had a little trouble initially using win8 after installation because I was dragging my fingers sooo hard on the screen in order to enable a touch command, which didn't work! Turns out the touch is sooo sensitive you just need to brush your finger across the screen in order to access the Charms, Tabs, and switches!

Posting from a W500 on Windows 8 right now, Windows 8 is absolutely made for it. That said, the metro browser is the only useful metro app and it's completely unstable.... but very snappy when it works. Since this is such an early version I have high hopes.
Side note: has anyone gotten the accelerometer working in 64-bit? Acer doesn't provide drivers and the manufacturer (Bosch) doesn't seem to either.
Had some issues with Accelerometer myself, although it was on the 32bit version.
You can try these options, however if it doesnt't work then you'll need to revert/re-install the 32bit version.
First, see if the bosch drivers install for 64bit, if they do then you can procede if they don' t then you won't have a functional G-sensor for 64bit.
Secondly, if the above works, you need to install the Acer ATI graphics driver (d/l from acer site, also the Application HID driver & Device Control won't hurt either)
After installation (and restart, yay!) Open the AMD Vision Engine Control Center program from the program list, it will tell you there is a compatibility conflict and do you wish to revert to .Net 3.5.1 (or whatever), Select yes. It will then download this driver from the net, and after installation: Voila!
(Of course you could just go into Windows Resources and revert to the aformentioned drivers, but the above was just to make sure )

Okay, so recently we've seen the sprout of Windows 8 tablets and RT tablets. And it got me wondering, now that we have Windows tablets with keyboard docks, what's the point of the TF300 or Transformer Line at all?
I mean, look at it this way, for the users who bought it with the keyboard, we bought it for the tablet/pc experience. But now with Windows 8 tablets (and Win 8 Pro), what's the point of the TF300? Wouldn't you be more satisfied with the Surface tablet running full fledged Windows 8, and being able to use it with some of their basic apps for a tablet like experience?
That's just my 2 cents, I dunno. I'm thinking about saving for a Surface tablet without RT.
I still think TF300 is the best. It is Android (not Windows crappy SO) and my dock gives me more battery life. Windows 8 apps are sloooow to load, surface comes with many problems related to sound, and well, I'ts a Windows - after some months it will start to stay slow and buggy. I also hate that metro thing that you cannot even change. If I didn't buy the transformer at this time, I would buy it anyway.
The other Windows tablets don't even come close to the functionality the Asus Transformer Pad series offers. You don't have to use crappy Windows 8 for a start.
I am usually an early adopter, but I am waiting to see how the Windows RT market develops. In time, I think it will be as rich as the iOS and Android app markets, but it ain't there yet.
I also like the open nature of Android over iOS or Win RT. Windows is aiming for a compromise between the two environments: less restrictive than Apple, but still not open to multiple markets and varying levels of quality control/risk on the Android platform, which a lot of users will prefer. But Win RT is restricted, unlike the x86 version of Windows 8 (and all previous Windows OSs). So I don;t see Android losing its appeal, and thus the Transformer models are still strong tablets with keyboard capabilities.
I haven't seen a Windows tablet yet that will touch this Transformer.

I mean recently I've been looking into getting a ASUS VivoTab which is similar to the Transformer series, but uses Windows 8 Pro, and an Atom Clover Field Dual-Core 1.8GHz processor, w/ 2GB's of RAM. It'll sustain my web browsing and be able to run legacy apps. That's what I'm really interested in, a laptop/tablet hybrid.
The TF300 doesn't keep me excited the way it used to :/ I really do wanna like it though.

The way I see it, Windows 8 Pro looks great. BUT it can wait for the next laptop upgrade, at which point all laptops will be a tablet hybrid. Plus, going by the Microsoft "every other OS" curse, Windows 8 will suck compared to Windows 9.
Not just Android, but also price point: you're looking at US$200 more for the RT equivalent of the TF300.
I want a tablet, not a PC, and all the reliability you get with a tablet. I don't think there's anything wrong with Windows or Microsoft - I have two Windows PCs and think it's great for working on my desktop - but it's horses for courses, and I like the open nature of Android. You can expect Microsoft to mess something up or stifle development at some point: if Android didn't exist and development was left up to Microsoft then it'd be a much worse environment.
I can't imagine that I'd have a real use for a hybrid tablet/laptop though, not until the prices for touch screens come down a lot. At work and in my office here, the laptops end up getting plugged into a larger monitor and external keyboard for comfort reasons.
Or maybe I'm just getting old and resistant to change.

The biggest downside for windows 8 rt is you can only run rt apps which are few. I'll consider later when there is more app support. As I see it now if it isn't included you are stuck, compared to hundreds of thousands of apps for android.
Obsolete? No I don't think that is accurate. Newer tabs out, yes. That is the tech world. Buy today and get more bells and whistles tomorrow or use a current product until there is truly a good reason to upgrade or spend your bucks to have the latest.
I know which is best for me but you are the only one who can make a proper decision for yourself.
If it is right for you then certainly get one. No one can or should fault you for that.

Honestly I don't like the way windows 8 is layed out. I do like the tablet / laptop design. But seriously windows 8 does not look compelling to me, they are trying to hard to make it look like android .

I have to start by saying I've been a long time Windows guy. I've had many tablet PC's and liked the ability to use a stylus for both ink notes and ink to text. However, tablet PC's were always too heavy for real portable use. I've never been a fan of Apple products and really have considered the iPad more of a toy than a business machine.
When I first saw the Galaxy Note 10.1 I figured this was what I had been waiting and for. I like many features of the Note. Particularly the ability to take ink notes with LectureNotes. However, after using Android for a full year, I realize there are many shortcomings if you are trying to use as your main portable computer. I use all the Microsoft Office products and Android just falls short on all of them. So I tried using Remote Desktop to simulate Windows. However, all the apps I found are glitchy.
I stopped in my local Windows Store and discovered Windows 8 has pretty much all the capabilities I need. I tried the Surface Pro but found it to be too heavy, runs hot and is loud. Then I discovered Samsung makes a series called ATIV Tab 5 or 500T. I bought one from a store that gives a 15 day return trial. This thing is really cool. It has built in USB and HDMI ports, has an 11.5" screen, is light, runs fast yet stays cool. I can do all my Office stuff plus load full programs, which is a huge plus. The HDMI port allows connection to a monitor and Windows 8 has the built in ability for dual screens. This ends up being a full blown computer when I need it to be!
I'm not sure that I understand the huge angst for Windows 8. So far I think it is fast and I just got the 8.1 update, which is supposed to make it faster.
Long story short - after trying the Android for a year I found it just isn't capable enough as a work computer. Try the Samsung 500T, I think you'll like it.
The 500T is excellent but Windows 8 lacks the integration with Android phones (Note II, and I have had a Windows phone and felt trapped) as well as many of the customization options that are available on Android. Plus I prefer native Google Maps and search to Bing.
But yeah I mean if you need a full OS it's a good way to go and Samsung has made it compatible with things like S-Note.

recently been scouting the pro 2, but also lookef at some of asus offerings and Samsung as well including the ones yo mentioned
battery still concerns me so i may keep my note for those long plane rides, but the multi tasking on windows 8 i feel brings something great to the table

This tablet is great and for the price I paid well worth it but I need more. I'm gonna sell this and probably go for the new surface or an ativ with my Christmas bonus.

You can even use usb 3.0 external hard drives on pro 2, they are sweet but very pricey also.
I picked up a Dell Latitude 10 from the outlet store for £250 iirc to do an experiment in Windows tablets (couldn't justify the cost of a Surface Pro) and I must say, having used it for a couple of months now I love having a fully fledged OS on a tablet. The version I got came with the 4 cell battery which gets me over 18 (YES I did say 18) hours of productive use. When used as a laptop/desktop replacement I get over two days between charges, if I use the productivity dock you can double that easily. In real world terms, one charge can last a week depending on what you are doing. Using the Note in the same way I'd need to charge it daily.
I still use the Note 10.1 but more as a secondary/backup/internet device. The weirdest thing I've found since going over to a Win 8 tablet is how it has sentenced my desktop AND laptop to the dust bowl with only the latter getting out for the odd gaming session.
As a predominately Linux user (mainly used windows for gaming) I think what Microsoft have done with Windows 8 is genius and I am one of those weirdos that actually love the simplicity of Metro for basic things and desktop mode for everything else. I would love to be able to switch between Linux and Win 8 like I'm used to, but tbh I have not missed using Linux too much since getting it.

I like the 500T but do not like that you cannot use the pen to navigate around (webpages etc).
Touchwiz has alot of nice touches with the s-pen and mobile use.
Only thing need Win8 for is MS office. Android options are garbage. tied of professors getting mad about sloppy formating.
Once MS puts office out for Android(if ever) then no point.
But Samsung will soon have Dual boot with WinRT...though I was shocked the 500T has full Win 8.
I heard the Tab3 is garbage tho..

Old windows 8 tablets are crap. New ones (depending on what) aren't bad at all. Im actually now looking at the lenovo yoga 2. 13in screen, i7 processor, 8gb ram amd 256gb ssd usb 3.0. Full windows 8 so I can use lightroom and photoshop. Battery life is decent. Good enough for me. I don't need all the android apps. I need full programs. I have my phome for the little android apps.

I've been considering switching from my note tablet to a surface tablet. I really like Windows 8 and as someone who has been using computing devices since the mid 1980's , I just want one device to rule them all. I love my note, it is a great device. But it doesn't have one note. I really like the s-note program, but onenote is far superior.

I'll tell you this, we still need windows 8 tablets. Unfortunately Microsoft having been to late to understand the mobile trend acted slowly. The 2 giants Microsoft and Intel dominated the world for 20 years, but both giants are now having difficulties in adapting.MS could have adapted its phone OS to a simple tablet, but waited to release the RT. I own a smartphone (Note2) which I use when I am on the road. At office I depend on my GN 10.1. Since I love technology I constantly change devices. Nevertheless last february I started with Vaio Duo 11 which I returned in a week, got a Samsung XE700T, which I sold to a friend in two months. I was a bit confused and about windows 8 and the tablets had not been matured... until Haswell. Now I am also a proud owner of a Vaio Duo 13 which I love. I am not using my GN 10.1. It just sits there on the table. After 8.1 update and the recent wifi driver update Duo 13 has been my first choice in mobility. With 8 gig RAM, 256 gig SSD and a i7 processor... I think we will see more windows tablets, hybrids in the future. I am an Android fan, but seriously they are just toys and gadgets.

Not really. Standby time of Vaio Duo 13 is quite good, not as good as Ipad or GN 10.1, but 10+ hours of continuous usage, near 2 days standby getting e-mails or social media updates.
As for MS... Gates is only good at marketing. In mid 90's he said multimedia was not important, later he didnt care about Internet, but every time he made a comeback. We know that there is a huge decrease in desktop and laptop sales lately, but this is also a great danger for the future of technology, unless portable devices would be capable of doing whatever those machines are doing. If PC market dies who will financially backup the future supercomputers? Are we going to send men on Mars relying on Ipads?
Although I make my living developing/building Android devices, I hope the Windows Tablet market remains viable as without competition you get stagnation, which isn't good for anyone.

No, but I suspect they'll be using more ARM chips (i.e., Android/iDevice) chips than x86 chips (PC/Surface) to do so as time goes on- your question will likely be more reality than fiction.

Dell Venue 8 Pro is $229 now at Walmart. I so appreciate the roms here but sometimes wonder if Android is too limited.
I hate Windows 8 and avoid it on my desktop. I run win 7.
Sometimes websites just dont work well on android and flash is always a problem.

No. The resolution is too low, 8" is slightly too large for most of my pockets and I don't miss Windows 8 applications while I'm on the go. I have an 11.6" 2in1 convertible tablet with a digitizer for my work related stuff and my Nexus 7 is purely for entertainment and consumption. For that, Android is well enough and the pros it has far outweigh the cons for me.
Now, if the Dell had HDMI/DP output, full sized USB ports, a normal SD slot or at least a 128GB SSD and a digitizer with a quad core Kabini, that might have swayed me.

8" is too small to run windows in a desktop environment. I can hardly find my way around with big fingers. so then you need apps to make the tablet usable but then you remember win8 apps are non existent.
I agree with all - 8 inch is way too small for real Windows desktop. Android is perfect for 7, 8 inch tablets.
Also, media consumption isn't where it should be on windows tablets, yet.

I checked that today.
the Dell seem to be a nice tablet but 32gig is not enough for window 8.
for now I stick with window 7 on a old netbook and my n7.

What are you talking about? Windows doesn't lack media options at all. In fact, it's one of the few platforms that can play basically everything. Even 1080p 10 bit h264 plays without dropped frames on a Dell Venue 8 Pro.
I have a Venue 8 Pro I'm playing with now, and I'm so tempted to switch at times. Metro performance is way ahead of any Android device in scrolling and loading. Metro IE is actually amazing fast and Chrome on desktop is about Chrome on Android. And despite running a full desktop and apps, it seems to keep programs in memory longer.
Unfortunately, while Metro app performance is really good, it's still seriously lacking in basic apps. There's basically 1 choice for IM outside of Skype. Only Metro apps have connected standby and get notifications when the tablet is asleep, so it's a major drawback. The virtual keyboard also doesn't seem to do any autocorrect on desktop, making typing a major pain.
I'm really torn. The 2 problems I have with it are major problems for me, but on the other hand, there's the performance and the ability to run basically any old program.
There's also a 64 GB version and microSD, so storage isn't that much of an issue.
No way. I'd get one of the Galaxy tabs. If only for the reason that the Windows devices don't have much market penetration, and they are not at least semi open source like Android. Fragmentation has become less of an issue in my opinion as Android matures.
I just read an article yesterday that Windows 8 use dropped, just a tiny amount, while Windows 7 went up a bit.
Windows tablets will be like the Windows media players. While working well enough for purple who prefer them, their numbers will plateau at a fairly low percentage while the numbers for Android/iDevices will go up. To me that matters.
And I like Android, a lot.

I think it depends on what you want to use that tablet for. I agree with the others that the screen is too small for it to really be a productivity tablet, so then its more for consumables and I'd pick the higher resolution of the 7.

I actually did the total opposite! I bought the Dell Venue Pro 8 and after a few days, returned it and picked up a N7, and I am very glad I did. The v8p is a very nice device, however I found that I prefer Android...and if one is using android then the N7 is boss!

In case anyone hasn't noticed, Dell Venue 8 Pro will be on sale next Monday morning(Dec 9) for $99 at Microsoft Stores.
Just get both.

Trust me, I have a touch screen laptop. You use the touch screen for Metro apps. the occasional scrolling/zooming, and that's about it.

I have to say after picking up the HP Omni 10 Win8.1 tablet, I've grown to prefer it over Android. I can actually watch any movie files and things just work and not in a limited way. Everything is smooth and no crashes...yet but it's still windows after all. Still have the N7FHD of course for app games and such.

I have the venue 8pro. And a Nexus 7 2013.
Market penetration means nothing when it comes to personal use and functionality.
They are totally different devices.
Windows 8 isn't the best tablet os, but it's great if you want a portable device to do Microsoft work.
For regular use I prefer the Nexus because Android allows me to install
3rd party keyboards and I've grown accustomed to using SwiftKey. So for the Windows 8 tab my opinion is that the keyboard needs vast improvement if you're gonna use it like an android tab.
Speed wise venue 8 pro is not bad. I recommend getting the 64gb version cause 32 fills up fast!

Yea. Windows RT isn't even full windows. Just a few Microsoft mobilized apps and some apps.
I honestly see using an 10" iPad or Android Tab for normal use, and remote desktop into a Windows 8 PC for business.
I do this now and its great. 1 PC at the office and I can manipulate my files and email them out all from my couch or hotel room. Sure its not going to allow graphic artistry or anything crazy, but Office and Email is perfect. I can operate our ticketing application with ease.
With this method you get the best of both. A solid mobile OS with tons of development and entertainment, and Remote Desktop for work stuff.
You can't remote desktop into an Android or iOS device.

Dell Venue 8 Pro runs Full Windows 8, not RT.
Hey guys I might be getting a hp stream 7 in a few days and was wondering if anyone here has one and if there any good, I'm only hoping for a bit of browsing and movie watching and light games, I've got a TF300T and a nexus 7 (2012) at the moment and was wondering if it would stand up to them for what I want it for, cheers for any info guys

Yes I did get it mate and for the price its really good, it can handle casual games well and browsing is very good but on a 7 inch screen you tap the wrong think now and then but I'm used to it as I use my nexus 7 a lot, s I think its a great way to try windows 8.1 on a tablet and it didn't disappoint me

This tablet isn't windows RT. It's full blown windows 8.1. But, I am quite disappointed at how windows 8.1 is on this tablet.. All the text and buttons are so small it's so hard to use. I have a kindle fire hdx with google launcher installed and it is a much more practical device for 7in touch screen. Windows 10 better have a more appropriate design for touch screens.. Otherwise, things arent' gonna look good for MSFT.
Yeah that's the biggest issues I've got to but it was cheap and I wanted to see if it was worth getting a bigger better one and I think yes it is

I just won one and tested quickly and you need a keyboard and mouse to really take advantage of it. i think is great to have full office running on it or whatever app you want.
Have you got a good keyboard and mouse solution?
