Hey guys,
I was wondering, is there any type of root and/or rom for the Claro Puerto Rico variant of the LG G2?
The model is the same as the T-Mobile one, D801. It also has LTE.
Could any of you tell me if the t-mobile root would work, and if so, would a T-Mo rom work too?
Here is some of the Hardware and Software information from the phone:
Hardware Information:
Model Number: LG D801
Memory: 32GB
Software Information
Android Version: 4.2.2
Build Number: JDQ39B
Kernel Version: 3.4.0
Software Version: D80110a-AMX-XXX

Use d803 stuff, i. Bricked and fix with laf.image of d803

I'm also curious about this, given as this phone identifies itself as a D801. It would be grand if a T Mobile rom could be installed, given that I could certainly benefit from wifi calling.
Speaking of which, if I wanted to install a custom recovery such as TWRP, I wonder what version I would need to use, the Roger/Wind version (these phones are usually Canadian) or the T Mobile one (as the phone identifies itself as a D801...

Exactly. I'm just waiting for an answer, I wouldn't like to risk it yet and I really dont have money for a replacement :/
Just got to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887
download the root files, and follow these instructions. You will be rooted in no time.
so, here are the steps to get root on a Wind Mobile G2.
1) Open root.bat in notepad
2) Do Crtl+F and look for ":ATTTMORoot" without the quotes but include the semi colon
3) a few lines underneath that line where you found ":ATTTTMORoot" you'll see a line which looks like this:
.\adb.exe push g2_security /sdcard/g2_security
4) replace that line with this:
.\adb.exe push ytiruces_1a_d803 /sdcard/ytiruces_1a
5) Save file and close notepad
6) Double click root.bat and follow the instructions as usual.
Then go to playstore and download supersu, done.
For recovery you can download Flashify from playstore and use that to flash the Rogers TWRP wich is the one that works. As for roms, d803 roms are the ones that work, any other variant will have to have a kernel change for it to work. Any more questions feel free to ask

Any idea where can I find the stock rom for this phone? I've searched high and low and came up back with nothing. The closest I got was flashing a Wind mobile stock rom, but since Wind mobile doesn't have LTE, the LTE icon is nowhere to be found (I DO get LTE, but the icon stays at 4G).

Omega, did you try any of the suggestions? and if so, did they work? Planning on installing the D803 Paranoid Android Kit Kat rom if the things they said work
I appreciate the responses, guys, thanks, just need to make sure everything is working before I shoot the gun
Yes PA kitkat works for claropr variant if you use the d803 version. I have used it. As for the stock claro rom it can easily be found through google

Got it already from the previous link you posted, thanks for these anyways! The only reason I want the stock rom is to see if the LTE icon sticks from the stock rom after flashing Clean ROM on top of it; did this on top of the Wind variant rom, and the LTE icon is nowhere to be found (even though I get LTE). Now, if there was a way where I could swap the 4G icon for a LTE one, that would be gravy; unfortunately, the only guides I Seem to find are for deodexed roms :/

I got my G2 from Claro a couple days ago and managed to root it by combining the manual root method by autoprime HERE with the advice @prking07 gave on POST #6
I followed these steps:
1. Download IORoot15 from HERE
2. Extract it to a new folder in your desktop.
3. Open command prompt (cmd) in that same folder. You can do this by typing "CHDIR C:\Users\'Username'\Desktop\'FolderName'" in cmd. **Do not type quotations in the cmd
4. Then on your phone enable developer options and USB Debugging. If you don't know how, watch THIS video.
5. Connect your phone and make sure its drivers are installed. then check if the phone is online by typing "adb devices" in cmd. It shoud show the device's ID.
6. Then follow the commands in the autoprime's manual method that I linked above and on step #2 type "adb push ytiruces_1a_d803 /sdcard/ytiruces_1a"
7. Unplug usb, go to developer options and disable USB debugging. Now disable (OFF) Developer Options. Turn On Developer Options. Enable USB Debugging. Once you've done that, re-plug your usb... IF YOU DO NOT TURN OFF THEN BACK ON DEVELOPER OPTIONS IT WILL NOT WORK!!
8. Finally follow steps 3-8 from the manual method and your phone should be rooted.
Here are some screenshot on how the command prompt looked like and the confirmation that it's rooted. These are basically the steps you have to follow once you open command prompt from the folder.

Thats exactly what I did, and then flashed TWRP with Flashify. I'm using Cleanrom with the Xposed Framework, plus Gravity box and the G2 Xposed app and Nova. Everything is running smoothly.
Btw, Dont flash the Paranoid Android rom or Slimbean. They all have issues, such as grainy camera or Huge battery drain.
Here's what I got til now.
Related
OK what you need to do is the following. I will be using Rogers as an example as it is what I am using. I will be flashing the Australian Jelly Bean ROM but I assume this will work with any of the Jelly Bean ROMs. I assume you can take the "modem" and "FSG" files from any of the stock ICS ROMs and simply replace the ones in the Jelly Bean ROMs.
**note that you will require an unlocked bootloader which you can do for free through Motorola, although it voids your warranty**
1. Download the "Rogers" (use whichever ROM is from your provider) ICS ROM from the thread in the Android Development Forum about the ICS ROMs. Download the Australian Jelly Bean ROM (again, use whichever stock Jelly Bean ROM that you want). Here is a link to the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943879
2. Extract the "modem" and the "FSG" files from the Rogers ROM.
3. Replace the "modem" and the "FSG" files in the Australian ROM with the files you extracted from the Rogers ROM.
4. Extract the XML file from the Australian ROM. Open it in notepad and find the line of text that has the word "getvar". Delete that line entirely from the file. Save it in a new location and then drag it into the Australian ROM .zip file and overwrite the existing file. Save the .zip file as you have now updated it.
4. Flash the Australian ROM using RSD Lite. You will need the 6.1.4 version. Put your phone in fastboot mode by powering down then holding down both volume buttons while pushing power. A menu will come up. Push volume down until "fastboot" is selected then press volume up to choose it. Hook your phone up via USB to your computer and you should be good to go. You will need the latest USB drivers from Motorola. Now open up RSD Lite and flash the Australian ROM.
5. Set up your APN. For Rogers it should be ltemobile.apn. If you google it you should find the details for Rogers.
Good luck! Let me know if you need any more help.
Thanks to o2qc418 for helping me figure this out!
**edit** I just realized there is another thread similar to this! Why his thread title says "upgrade" when you're doing a fresh install is confusing to me. Perhaps have him edit that title and then just keep whichever guide is more clear and easier to use.

It's not an upgrade. An upgrade is when you do an OTA update or flash a .zip for a daily build or something.

The LTE logo shows as 4G. It works fine here for me. Did you test using speed test? It could just be the logo that's confusing you.
There is also a setting under mobile networks that needs to be changed so that you have LTE sometimes.

Hey @ll. I've just gotten a new SGH-I337M (build number JDQ39.I337MVLUAMG1) from Bell in Canada. I've been trying every root method I can find on the net and they all fail. I started with motochopper running from linux and eventually tried a manual method running psneuter on the device and no go. Tonite I've gotten a winblows vm going and tried odin. FAIL!... I've finally noticed (with a magnifying glass) that when in download mode, the last line of the tiny text in the top right says: WRITE PROTECTION: Enable. From what I've read, I think this means it has a locked bootloader. Is this right? Has anyone heard of this happening with Canadian Bell phones and is there any way around it?
Thanks in advance.
I just checked my download mode.
It says the same, so I think there not locked. But I can flash whatever I want.

Yeah, cfautoroot was the latest one I tried which uses odin. The phone was recognized in the vm and connected to odin just fine so I don't thing using a vm is the problem. As I said, I tried a few methods on the linux system with the phone directly connected as well and got the same results. Everything seems to be working until the point where something has to be written to the device and it fails. Even a manual method where psneuter is transfered to the device and run from there and it won't work.
Well the only thing I can say is try a reall windows machine not some windows vm

if it is a 337M (with the M) it does not have a locked bootloader. PERIOD

Well thats encouraging. It does have the 'M' but several attempts at rooting with recognized methods have all failed. What else could be the problem?
According to the CFAutoroot thread, MG1 should work just fine. You might want to go to that thread (or go back to it) and make sure you read / re-read the entire thread to make sure you are using the proper procedure. Good luck.
did you download the NEW cfautoroot? it was updated for our phone last month or so...

I just purchased an S4 BELL SGH-I337M which was on AMG1 when I received it. I flashed TWRP on it and then decided to install stock firmware AMDJ. Then I flashed GUMMY ROM which is pre-rooted. Since I did all this flashing, that also proves it is unlocked so I will have to go along with TRusselo. It is unlocked. :good: I won't say period though, BELL and canadian carriers could change their minds and start locking them.

I377m is not locked. No Canadian handsets are. Locked boot loaders seem to be an American phenomenon

Mexican version is also i337M. Is its bootloader locked?
I rooted my i337m with CF-auto root and no problems what so ever.
Currently using Philz touch recovery 6.00.8 and Slimbean 4.3 build 2.2.
Everything you need is here on xda just need to look for "Samsung latest drivers, cf-auto root, Odin 1.85" plug your phone in and root

Hello everyone. First of all I want to say that this is a great forum with tons of valuable information. You guys do excellent jobs here. Now. I have a recently purchased S4 with AT&T. It is imperative that I get this phone unlocked TODAY. I am going in for surgery and my daughter is going to be left alone at home and I need her to have a phone to be able to contact me at the hospital if need be or in case of an emergency. I have tried all of the way that I have found on here to unlock this device and have not been successful. I cannot even get it Rooted. I tried with MotoChopper. I tried ODIN, King, and whatever the last one is. I have tried the *#0011# and it goes to the service menu but when I key in the number one, a screen flashes real quickly that says menu not exist. then back to the service screen. I do not know where to go from here. Can someone please assist me with a step by step tutorial on what needs to be done? I would be extremely grateful. I am standing by refreshing the page hoping for responses. Thanks!
I assume you want to sim unlock it? Do you know what firmware version you're on?

You're on nc1 firmware, look at your build number, it's the last three characters. Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54932702
You might have to down grade to nb1, idk for sure. If you have to there is an Odin flashable tar file in the general forum.

I tried everything in that thread also. I do not know how to downgrade. I also run a linux machine. i do not think that ODIN runs on Linux. Does it? Thank you for the rapid responses.

Odin won't run in Linux. You might be able to run it in a Windows vm. I'm not that familiar with Linux. Heimdall will run but I'm not familiar with that either. Sorry man. You could try Google and heimdall

Seems I am kind of screwed. Haimdall does run on Linux but it wont root my phone. it says that it did after I run it but then it's not. So weird.

Have you tried to root with towelroot?

Help me out guys,
Why do you need to root to be able to have daughter get ahold of you?
Why do you need to sim unlock? Are you on different carriers? Texting? etc
Can you get two prepaid phones that would work while in hospital?
Below links:
1. I used this to set up adb/fastboot on my iMac--need it to use Heimdall. I had some links to Heimdall, but must have deleted them. I can always use my son's Windows machine if needed--

2. Rooting with SafeStrap--

SafeStrap--

Those are complicated procedures and take time to learn w/o breaking your phone which you don't want to do atm.
With sim unlocking which is for using phone on another carrier I have no exp with. But, thought Obama passed law requiring carriers to give you that info. Otherwise, maybe someone else has done it on your model or Google alot.
Again, I am confused on why you need to sim unlock or root--sorry--
Hope you get it sorted in time--:good:

I do all the movements and a correct installation; but when I try to make a call a message saying "No registered" or like "no service" appears. This happens in all the iB4STiD new version of roms in every Kernels.
The carrier is "CLARO" and the kind of band is UMTS or HSPA+

Did you configure the APN settings for your carrier? If not, you can find the menu in...
Settings > Wireless and Networks > More Settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
I am on ATT, so I cannot verify if these work, but I did find these...

Thanks for reply! The problem isn't in the apn or internet conection... Is in all the carrier registration, that means can't call or send sms.
Sometimes the 4G symbol appears and I can navigate in internet but don't allow me to call.

APN settings is all I had. I have an ATT on ATT network, so I do not have too much experience configuring the phone on other carriers.
In the OP, you mentioned "This happens in all the iB4STiD new version of roms in every Kernels." Did it work on his older ROMs or another dev's ROM? If so, I'd suggest flashing one of those to see if it is still working.

Yes, yes and yes. I do all, but nothing change. I installed a old version of GE (37, 38, 38.1) doesn't work.
Now I'm trying with GE 30. First I trying SHOstock and seems work.
I got more information for you!
The problem started when I installed a KK 4.4.4 Rom, before this never happened anything and always a custom rom allowed me to call.
PD: ONLY with the stock rom (I337UCUAMDL_I337ATTAMDL_ATT) and a based 4.4.4 custom rom is installed it can use the phone for call. Not just the internet!
Anybody knows something about that???

You are on mdl firmware. It's android 4.2.2. You could try flashing a new modern. See rockrat's modems in the general forum

No, it'll just flash the modern. Nothing else will change. I'm not sure if it will help you though. It could, modems sometimes work better and other times not. It depends on where you are and what works better in that location. You can always flash back to the mdl modem, i.e. baseband

Well... you quoted me and I asked the question myself for the international version, so I have no idea. But as I understand it should work with a lot of different version. Follow the links and see if you find anything there.
