Change led colors in kit Kat? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know of a way to set custom led color notifications in kit kat? In previous versions it was easily achievable thru a number of apps or custom Roms. None of the apps seem to work for me in kit Kat.

Light Flow works quite well in KitKat.

I'm using the paid version. I don't remember any special setting for the nexus 10. You don't need root and you will grant permission to read notifications (it asks for it the first time it's launched). Don't use talkback, notifications are better.

Enable Navigation bar/Disable capacitive buttons and lights

This is a mod how to enable navigation bar(on screen
buttons) , its very simple and easy...
Warring: if you mess something dont blame me.
Add the following line at the end of buid.prop file
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
now on reboot we will have nav-bar like on nexus 4
To turn off capacitive buttons:
Go to system/use/key layout/ synaptics-rmi-touchscreen.kl
Long press it and click open with text editor
Delete everything there
Reboot.
To turn of capacitive button lights:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.deskangel.kblight
Or
This will mess your screen brightness and it will stay on 100% all the time. You have to use screen filter app from play store or some other app to control the brightness of your screen.
Go to system/lib/hw
There find lights.msm8960.so
Rename it to (whatever you want)
Reboot.

To turn off the lights you can just edit framework-res.apk.
Don't copy other peoples posts
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39662190&postcount=1
This is only applicable to AOSP/CM ROMs this won't work on sense based ROMs.

I don't copy I had this posts from last year in other places. I searched on Google and tried to help whoever needs it to find it faster. Now whoever does anything copies from someone. Look at all the xda every place is copies of one another.

Here you go, if your rooted, extract this and put it in etc/init.d to turn off your lights on boot.
Or, just execute it with root explorer.

This doesn't work. I did exactly the way you described and still no go. Is this of cm based or sense?

Does work, been using it. On sense. If you are using a custom kernel with bln then that could be why. Make sure you set permissions though!

I'm on slim ROM so maybe that's why. Thanks anyway
It will help the people on sense ROMs.

Unfortunately i cant get the navigation bar to work?!?
Or can it only be done on CM Roms?
Im on Google Play Edition 4.3, did the total conversion as i want to stay on Stock GPE.

*Bump* this is of interest to me
I only managed to get a nav bar by using PA, fiddling with build.prop never gave me a nav bar GPE or anything else.

I think I read on the s4 forums that they also can't get this going with stock based roms (touchwizz and gpe), something about the lines of code for this to happen being removed or not there.
From personal experience, I could only get the navbar on pa. Another person on a thread enabled it on a cm based ROM.
So in the end, yes, it seems the only way to get the nab bar working is a cm based ROM. Its a pity cause that means we'll be giving up:
* good speakers - missing beats audio
* ir blaster and fantastic TV app.
* blink feed
* slightly better camera optimizations
Anyone able to recommend a cm based ROM ? Or at least alternative apps for the problems above?

Nope....doesn't work on Sense-based or GPE. Tried it like........I lost count. I kinda savvy it too. However, even on a Touchwiz I can't produce it. So probaly it only works on CM or CM based roms.

LED notification in my Nexus 4 doesn't work fully

Hello guys as the thread says, my LED notifications doesnt work after a missed call. it works perfectly after receiving an sms and e-mail, but not after a missed call. I have stock 4.3 android and stock dialer + sms. I know, that after changing the stock dialer to a custom one (exdialer, dialer one) it will work, but i would like to stay at the stock one, because i like it
Thanks
And your question is 'Why won't my LED always work at certain applications?'?
If yes, try LightFlow, you can find it at the Play Store.

what a fast and easy solution i will stay at my stock dialer and have a full working led notification Thanks mate !
there is so much stuff to learn about that phone ...
Yes it is but this is so Shame that Google didn't provide this by default

LightFlow discussion

I remember recently that there was an alternative to LightFlow being featured somewhere (forget if it was XDA or Reddit or somewhere else).
Does anyone remember it? I believe it was a bit more lightweight than LF.
EDIT: Decided to make this the general Nexus 5 LightFlow thread since that's what it pretty much became.

I could find and try this one only.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koo.lightmanager
But eventually I moved back to light flow because it works better for me in KitKat.
I prefer light flow. I like being able to set it to dismiss the light as soon as I turn my screen on. Quickest way to get the light to stop blinking.

I know that 4.3 brought in persistent notifications like with apps like LF. Still no work around with hiding it?

Uncheck the foreground option in settings. I always uncheck that and I've never seen any difference, except the persistent notification goes away.

How about getting the led to be always on?
I've always liked it better than pulsing, and set it up like that in the Galaxy Nexus, but can't get it to work on the N5 yet.
is it worth having root mode on as well ?

I see the very first app i ever purchased on the android market for my old N1 is still getting updates (sept 2013).... TrackBall Alert Pro... also Trackball Alert..
updates say it will work with any trackball (hah i miss that thing) and RGB LED.. from what i remember it was a pretty minimal app that let you choose colours/flash rate/etc...

There's an option in each notification under the "light" tab for "LED flash rate" for "always on / very slow pulse". I have it that way for when my phone is charging.

Edit: I tested in on gmail, and you are correct sir. It doesn't work.

[Q] Read LED Notifications

Hi all. I have been doing some searching around for a way to get the rear LED to light up in any way shape or form for apps, specifically SMS.
Has anyone found a way to get it on AT ALL using apps like Light Flow or Light Manager? Stock or a custom ROM? If you have gotten it on in anyway at all, please let me know! (And how you did it please)
I spent some time emailing with the LightFlow dev last night too, and he is interested in getting control over it too. So anything to get it on is great.
Thanks everyone!

Just tried, same results.
I have it half on with this app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1958939
Working on full access. Ill keep everyone updated.
To use that app install it and enable it in accessibility. Then open the app and go to auto locate. Choose your LED here. "button-backlight1" is for the left, "button-backlight2" is for the right. It will probably just show you up to the word "button: though. But it appears twice, once on the left of the screen, once on the right. Choose either side. And that's it. It will flash when you get a notification.
Light flow works for me rooted on stock Rom. ...you have to enable it in settings then enable it in the setting for the specific notification You want. .. but now blink or pulse. ....tell the light flow dev to add this option to his app

I sent him an email about this a few minutes ago. But light flow also only lights up half of the ring, the right side to be specific. If you use the app I linked above you can get either half (left or right) working and it blinks!
Ill let you know any updates I get, but at least it is half blinking now!
Worked some more with the light flow dev. We have gotten the FULL led ring to light up! It is currently solid. Ill post more as it develops.
In the meantime here is a picture of my device, using lightflow, when I receive an SMS. Enjoy for now!

[THEME/APP] KK Dark Mms.apk

Hello all,
This in my theme that I've been using since JB was first released, I like it and see no reason to change it. Just want to share with others that may like it or decide this would be a good starting point for their theme.
I'm pretty sure this will work on all phone screen sizes, I've personally tested this on the N5, N4 and Galaxy Nexus.
This Mms was taken from AOKP nighlty version 4.4.2-eng..20140513.000013.
EDIT!! Added normal back and forth version, same build version and the other.
Nice app but i cant for some reason hear my notifications , on settings its set to silent then i choose a tone but it still wont change from silent. Any ideas? Oh and thanks for this .
