Insane screentime. - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm getting 8-9h screentime, It's absolutely insane! I got barely 4h with my Galaxy S4. This is from 100% till 14% no charging.
Share yours? What is your longest screentime so far? And how is it possible Note 3 can have so much better batterylife, 3200Mah ain't so much bigger than S4's when you think the screen size.

Yes, I work out that I can probably get 10 hours overall, same as you seem to get. That is unless I play action games, where it would be more like 5, but with a fully used CPU most of the time.
I am very impressed, especially after the very poor screen time of the Note 1 I was used to. Now I use it for playing games, and even navigation (screen on all the time), and I never even think about the battery.
I also find that the usage graph is often almost flat when not being used. I lose 1 or 2% if I have not used the phone for hours, sometimes it is still at 100% when I first use it in the day.
I have WiFi or Mobile Data on all the time, BT all the time, emails checked every 15 minutes.

Coming from a 4s, I am truly amazed at this battery, lasts forever !!!

Here is the thread for this mates - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2459947

Battery full, no resets or power off, just plain screentime, wifi on, if mobile data used, screentime is reduced to 6-7 hours, although I used mobile data, made calls, watched movies, browsed web, played Nds emulator..Its crazy how this battery lasts.

How is the battery life ?

Everywhere I read about this phone, I don't see it mention the battery life. With a big battery there should be some baterry review.
Galaxy S II has 4.3" screen and 1650 mAh battery,
Galaxy Note has 5.3" screen and 2500 mAh battery.
it looks like Note's battery life is not much but longer than S II
Got mine today.
Charged it to 100% at 7pm.
From then i used it almost all the time with the display on (now it's almost 12pm here)
Batterie has now 75% left.
Looks good...

Stopped charging at 7 a.m. at 100%, surfing, making 2 calls, doing some fun stuff with the pen (drawing, making some videos for youtube to show), playing some Fieldrunners HD, now 40% left.
At home since 4 p.m. and connected to the Wifi hotspot.
This is great news! Thanks for sharing. Hoping to order mine soon.

Sound awesome....
Our battery rundown test (playing a video in a loop starting from a full charge) achieved an impressive 9 hours and 36 minutes, putting the Galaxy Note right into iPad territory.
got mine and will be testing it whole day tomorrow, will update how it turns out

How long does it take to charge from drained to FULLY. I have the the infuse and it takes forever to charge, it is not fast charge like HTC is or any other smartphone. Samsung seems to take forever to charge compared to other Smartphones.

Time to charge will depend on the
1. battery capacity,
2. charger and
3. settings about how fast the battery can be charged
1- no control.
2- chargers are mostly 1mAp . Default charger for samsung gives only 650mAP ( at least in SGSII ) . So u can use a more powerful charger.
3. Kernel changes can be made to make charging faster
Downside of faster charging : Lower battery life in the long run.
Day one with a full charge in the morning.
Ofcourse I used it more than usual, its new you know....
I guess battery life will be sort of the same as the Galaxy S2, about 1 day of moderate use.
I think thats too short, way too short. (had a mophie juice for all my iPhones, and the Samsung S2 official battery pack)
3500 or 4000ma would be so much more convenient..... Room enough in the case of the note I guess.... Who cares about the few extra grams....
My Nokia E61, now that had a battery LIFE.... 3 days was normal...

That makes perfect sense then why your Wifi is on all the time.
If you change it to 'When screen turns off' it should then terminate Wifi when your not using the phone.

I leave mine set to when the screen is off, that way I know full well when my screen is off the wifi (which is the biggest killer of battery life) is also off.

SGN 10.1 battery endurance is phenomenal !

Yesterday we had a day grey in grey and I started my morning as usual with my SGN 10.1
Emailing, Newspaper reading, some drafting for my next lectures, updating apps and then I found some really funny cabaret streams .......
Well, my Note was constantly on and streaming YouTube and some other sources
What shall I tell You: just in time I went to bed it was down to 5%
14 hrs !
No other tab can beat THAT
I found a quick way of gaining 5 hours battery per day: I bought my 5 yr old son a Galaxy Tab 2 (early xmas present). Now my note 10.1 lasts me all day, every day It even works with my phone, a Note 2
My note 10.1 has so far been running for 23 hours and 10 minutes and has 26% battery remaining. It's definitely on a par with my previous tablet, an ipad 3 :good:
Last week, took mine off the charger Sunday morning and didn't put it back till Friday night. I didn't use it much, just about 4 hours of screen time. Total time on battery was 134 hours 27 minutes. Still had 55% of the battery left. That standby time if phenomenal.
yeah my last charge was 5 hours 40 mins screen on time and more than 13 days standby. Battery was at 34%. It uses next to no power on standby, absolutely amazing.

I agree. I'm coming from Asus Transformer Infinity and SGN 10.1's battery is beyond belief. It seems like it's running on nuclear energy. Amazing for such a light tablet.

guys why my screen always say it uses 75/80% when i look at battery usage ?
it makes my battery drain very fast
The amount of time your screen is on is the usage percentage shown eg if you tablet is on for 10 hours and out of that u were using it for 8 hours then the percentage would be 80
Screen is the biggest battery eater which is the case with any device so it effects your battery life the most

I got mine yesterday and charged it, hardly did anything with it except download and play a game for less than 10 minutes and have a little doodle with sketchbook pro then left it on standby over night then did a little browsing this morning.
Found the wifi to be slow and sluggish and wouldn't even show all images even though my broadband is 100mb speed.
The battery lasted 13 hours, don't know how long it would last if I'd actually used it a bit more cause it seemed to go down pretty fast even on wifi bout the same life as my s3.
Hardly call that phenomenal.
I'm really disappointed to be honest after reading all the reviews.

Probably just needed a full charge as I only charged it from half way as it came half charged and if that doesn't work I'll do a full discharge and if that doesn't work I'll send it back
Full brightness is too high for me and auto is too low so had it at less than half way.
Only really got it so could use it to take out with me and do some paintings but was worried about it switching off that's why not happy.
Thanks for your reply, really like this tablet and it really is what I thought it would be but if it hasn't got the battery then it's not good.
I'll see how it goes.

Make sure you set WiFi to turn off when the screen is off.
Odd though that the WiFi was slow. It makes me think something is wrong with the WiFi itself that's causing problems.

Personally, I've noticed that the s-pen digitiser, when it is switched on, drains a considerable amount of energy. So do not expect extreme battery life if you use a lot the s-pen. Anyway, do check that the energy saving option under "Options - S Pen" is ticked. This way the digitiser will be off when the stylus is in its receptacle. This will save a good amount of battery when you're not using the pen (provided you insert it in its receptacle). Of course, this setting will have no effect whatsoever while you're using the pen.
In any case, a tablet like this is full of features and components that are potential battery killers, so how long the battery lasts, it's really up to how the owner uses it, and not only how much. For instance, I may be surfing the internet and checking emails all day long without using the pen, and consider it heavy use. How long will the battery last in such case? 15 hours? Ok.
Now, a seemingly opposite case could be this: I may have the tablet constantly standing by, but with the pen off its receptacle. Since I have never used the tablet, I have full right to swear that my usage of the tablet is extremely light. Well, only because I've left the pen out of its receptacle, my battery will run flat in just about 13 hours or so. And what's more confusing, is that if I go checking the battery stats, I will see no trace of the pen being the responsible for such a high drain, so I probably will end up getting the (wrong) idea that the battery life of this tablet is extremely poor.
Another case, among the many, is when the tablet tries to sync using the 3G connection, but gets no answer from the network because of problems of the mobile operator network (server not responding). This causes the 3G radio to remain constantly on and drain the battery very fast. Again, it is very difficult to understand the reason for such a quick discharge. Such an issue happens in certain areas of my city with Vodafone, for instance. When I go to that areas, I have to take care to switch off 3G data connection, or else my battery will be empty in a matter of a few hours.
IMHO the problem is, that android os is very incomplete when it comes to providing information for analysing power consumption, and this has always been the cause of big confusion and frustration.

Nexus 10 battery life

Hey everyone. I ordered my Nexus 10 in late March and just had a question: How much actual battery life do you get out of your N10? I found that I was barely able to get a day out of mine and am awaiting a RMA replacement. I did a Netflix test, where I charged it to 100%, unplugged and played Futurama on Netflix. I got about 5 hours 12 minutes before the device shut off. I have my screen brightness at 50% and no apps that would cause heavy background usage.
That is pretty good battery life for 50% screen brightness. I still cant comprehend why people need their brightness at 50% or even higher though.

Mostly web surfing, youtube, gmail, G+ and facebook. Not too intensive, I suppose.
I have all sync on except for facebook and display on auto brightness. I also have a strong wifi signal most of the time.
When my tablet is AT HOME WITH ME instead of off cavorting around Samsung repair centers, its day starts about 6:45am. With all my apps and syncing, it lasts me through a work day and then some, going as late as 11:00pm and still being at 30% battery or more, depending on how much gaming I did.

When I am inside it is at minimum (which is still too bright), outside is between 25-35%
For the people who have really low battery, I have a good hunch that the problem is how much wifi sucks up. When I have wifi on I can feel the tablet is much hotter than normal, which means it is dissipating a lot of power. I suspect that the wifi traffic is the 2nd biggest battery drain for people who are browsing all day, the 1st most being the screen itself.

It seems there is a common trend with people who have long battery lives - low brightness. My eyesight is pretty bad so I really can't stand setting it any lower than 40%.
I get about 7 hours before it needs a charge and that's mostly browsing with wifi, which sounds around right according to claimed stats by Google. I'm on around 20% brightness, doesn't need to be higher.
About 8 hours, which is a full workday for me, mostly Evernote/webbrowsing/mails - no gaming. I usuall have ~20% left, so there's 1-2 hours more for emergencies.
I just ran both my original and RMA units side by side, factory reset and unrooted on Youtube playing a 10 hour loop video with brightness set to 100% and at 5h 6 minutes my original N10 hit the 15% warning, the RMA a few minutes later....so I feel kind of bad for wasting Googles time.
I think kernel and ROM have something to do with battery as well as WiFi. I have great signal and use 5ghz and I get great battery life with little drain. Before ras came to the n10 I was using cm and got amazing battery on the kernel it came with but horrible life on paranoid (early build). Also the first trinity kernels had poor battery life for me.

S4 GT i9505 Snap Dragon Battery Problem

Hi all, I recently purchased a galaxy s4 1.9 Ghz quad core snap dragon and last night I turned off the phone with 26% battery when I lit morning I found a 23% battery! Other thing when i navigate on facebook, with half brightness I consume a lot of battery, for example if i have 5 minutes on facebook consume 4, 5 % battery go! Is it normal?
A different battery level between turning off and back on is nothing unusual, especially only 3%. It's the first release and things will improve as the firmware is updated.
I have no issues with general battery life myself - it is much better than my I9100 ever was. With normal use I go from fully charged to between 30 and 40 percent in around 16-18 hours and considering we're talking about a phone with a 5" 1080p display I don't think there can be any complaints about that. I have never had to recharge during the day.

What settings do you leave on? I usually don't pass the 10 hour mark without having to recharge. I leave mobile data, sync, screen rotation and multi Window and turn the rest off. The battery life is horrible especially for someone coming from a Note II

Facebook on S4 is a battery hog for sure. On the 10-11 hours my phone was on, Facebook accounted for 50% of the battery usage, and the screen 26%. Turn of Facebook sync and such, that will improve your battery life.
I don't use Facebook on my I9505, but I have to concur the battery life on this phone is utter garbage.
With mobile data, power saving and sync on, this thing still drains like crazy, there is definitely something wrong somewhere with the S4's battery in general. I've only heard very few people saying it's actually decent, other than that, mine and pretty much everyone else I hear commenting about the S4's battery life agree it's horrible.

NExus 4 Battery

HEy guys
I know how much we love our nexus 4, but I am really getting irritated at its battery now. How much is everyone else getting on a normal day usage which involves 3g usage half day half day wifi, song listening, google now on. I just wish to know if i am doing something wrong.
Cheers
My nexus 4 runs with ~3,5 hours screen on time through the day. Heavily listen to music, chatting, browsing news and internet but without google now and gps off.

I know how much we love our nexus 4, but I am really getting irritated at its battery now. How much is everyone else getting on a normal day usage which involves 3g usage half day half day wifi, song listening, google now on. I just wish to know if i am doing something wrong.
Cheers

google now disabled , nfc disabled , location disabled , brightness set to about 30 % and using hells doctor kernel on default settings i get about 4 hours of SOT which involves playing san andreas , listening to music , reading news and reviews on chrome browser some sms texts here and there, so if i just listen to music and use chrome i can squeeze about 5 and half hours of SOT i.e using wifi , and my nexus 4 is more than year old now so its still going strong as before i think oh yeah even if i used google now it had little to no impact on battery life for me
Everything turned on, full power screen, about 3 hours SOT. I'm using Hells Doctor kernel and an untouched phone drains less than 1% power hour.

GPS sucks a lot of batterie. Do you use location service in batterie save mode aka high accuracy?
Why would GPS use a lot of battery when it's not being used?

Unless you disable it, GPS will kick on from time to time if you have apps running in the background, like weather widgets.

When I bought the nexus 4 I would get around 3-4 hours of sot(screen on time). Its by this number people judge their battery life.
However I use paranoid android with their stock kernel/ Franco kernel which boosted my screen on time to 5-6 hours.
If you want a better battery life, my opinion is to flash a new Rom.
Another great app that did wonders for my battery was greenify. If you could get the donation package combined with xposed installer, your phones battery life would be extended by a large amount.
Hope this helps!
For have the best battery ever turn off your phone
