Hi, ive been roaming around the forum for a while now, and I honeslty got to the point where I feel the urge to ask someone who really knows about the subject.
I recently tried to root my Samsung S4 1337m from Telcel Mexico's main carrier, and what I did on the start was that I tried to root using Odin and the CF Autoroot method, but i used the .tar file for gti9500, (which i tought it was my model at the moment, i later figured that i was wrong), so, since i used a diff tar file, it didint work, odin crashed and i got stuck and couldnt reboot my phone, so i downloaded a boot.img and a kernel XXUADMK for GTI9505, which i succesfuly (i dont even know if i should be using this word), patched using odin, both of them, then i got myself to samsung s4 logo, but i got stuck there...
So, basically, i need help now, to get past that samsung logo, i dont know if i screw up my phone or what, but i d really appreciate some assistance from someone now, i seriously got lost, i even tried a factory reset and a cashe wipe, which did nothing,
Help please?

My original issue got resolved thanks to s15274n. This mans ROOT walkthrough is amazing!!!!!
NOW I have a problem getting my ROM to load.
Im trying to Install the Malice ROM. and nothing is going quite as smoothely as I think it should.
This is attempt 2, the first time I waited an hour to try and install this rom, straight from SD, and I think the furthest it got was "installing ROM"
nothing. pull the batery out (I assume thats a total noob move, and at beast ill-advisable.) rebooted, went about my day. well, im trying again, and now the furthest ive gotten is "Installing update" the status bar is never filling or scrolling though.
Whats the problem? (going on about 15 minutes with no change btw)
You must use Odin to either
-Flash back to stock so you can reinstall packages
or
-Flash a voodoo integrated kernel so you can flash roms w/ CWM/Voodoo Recovery
Download a voodoo kernel and flash it using odin.
ok, I have the kernal and I have ODIN. once again I have never used ODIN< I definately used a one click root.
does anybody have a link to a thread with *detailed*, hold my hand, walk me through it and pat me on the butt at the end Instructions on this? It's a learning process and damn if im not learning something by the time this is all said and done lol.
last time it sat still for me when it said installing update, it was a bad download. I redid my download of the rom and it went through fast and smoothly. Thats how i fixed my prob maybe it will fix it for u.
I really need some help i want to cry

do you have the .pit and .tar files? Also, are you turning your phone off? There is an awesome guide by s15274n called the noob guide. It goes over very specifically how to root, it also has a small tutorial on rooting using ODIN3. Search the q&a forum, i believe thats where the guide is.
Also just to clarify, im not saying ur a noob or inept, im just saying its a super awesome guide. My phones neen rooted for three days now, ive flashef a bunch of roms and i always flash nack to stock...REALLY helpful tutorial. Good Luck!
Hello, I am new to these forums as well as owning an Android device, and was directed here from Reddit when I posted my question there. to save time, I'll simply copy/paste my explanation of my predicament from Reddit, but if I seem to be leaving something out, please tell me so I can offer up as much information as I can.
"I've owned a Galaxy S5 for a little over 2 weeks, and for the past 4-5 Days, any time I try to Turn it on, I receive a message that says "Secure Fail: Modem", in red letters at the top left of the screen, and in the middle there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation point with the following text underneath "System software unauthorized by verizon has been detected on your device. please shut Down and go to the nearest verizon store" I'm 17, and currently staying at Governor's school, so I didn't have a ride until yesterday when my Dad and Uncle came to help me try to fix my phone. We went to the Verizon store, where they said that it looked at though I had tried to "root" the phone, which I haven't. My theory is that this is the result of a pokemon game I downloaded from the internet for an emulator. We Called tech support who couldn't help us, but after a little Research, I tried downloading Odin and flashing it with the Stock Rom, but every time I do that, I get the same Error message, regardless of whether I wipe the phone first, or Remove the sim card or whatever, so I don't know what I'm doing wrong and thought that maybe reddit could help me."
I've tried to flash the stock rom several times as per the following video: apparently I cannot link to outside content; however, the video is titled "How to Flash Stock Firmware for Galaxy S5 [All Variants] by Odin3" on youtube
if anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Restart your phone in recovery mode by shutting the phone down and then starting it back up by holding the home, volume up and the power keys until you see the blue text at the top of the phone saying recovery booting. When it boots into recovery use the volume key to select wipe cache partition and then press the power key to run that. Then select wipe data/factory reset and run that. When that's done select reboot system and see if it starts normally. If that doesn't work try Odin with the tar and pit file.

I've tried all of that, even the pit file, it's still telling me that it detects system software unauthorized by verizon, and I don't know why or how it would if I've supposedly wiped the phone clear several times over

I use this method and it worked great. I suggest you try it again, to include re downloading the tar file. Follow the straightforward instructions. Leave your phone connected to the computer even after you flash the tar. It will go through the whole reboot process while connected to the computer. If you still have problems, ask mrxtc (op). I see him all over the place and he seems pretty good at helping people fix problems.

everything I downloaded was from the google play store, with the exception of the "pokemon emerald" rom from coolrom.com. I hadn't attempted to root the phone prior, I didn't even know what that meant until I googled the error message. that actually brought me to a thread on this site where somebody had tried to root their S3 and got the same message. as for the model of the phone, all I know is that it's an S5 and that I got it at Verizon.

Other than what I posted in the recovery thread and what I posted a few posts up that's pretty much it. You could try the nand erase all and efs clear options, check the screen shot and make sure your check boxes are correct. Also if you didn't download the files from the thread I posted I suggest you do. Honestly if none of what was already suggested doesn't work I would contact Samsung. I've had and seen your error before and successfully reset my phone before.

i guess my question was how did you try to run the rom? its a long shot but thinkin since technically its a rom file maybe you used it wrong.. also, theres dev edition s5 and retail s5 for vzw so it does matter which model you have and which odin files youre trying to use.. since phone is less than a year old, id contact samsung if you cant get it fixed and theyll send you a return kit and reflash the software for you.. something similar happened to someone with an s5 active on att n samsungs gonna help him.. only reason he needs to send it in however is cuz there is no s5 active tar available yet for him to odin. you should b able to on yours but hard to fix without having the device in hand and u saying uve tried everything

how do I tell the difference between the dev and retail editions?
I'll see about contacting samsung, since I seemed to have bricked it.

theres a soft brick (recoverable) and a hard brick (not recoverable).. normally a hard brick your phone wont come on or go into any mode at all.. soft brick is when it starts up but either bootloops or wont boot at all into the os (like yours).. im just lost as to why it wont work! crazy.. if u got at vzw and dont know what a dev edition is then u most likely have a retail s5 so mister odin guide should work..

Yea man it worked for me too. If you can get to stock recovery or Odin mode you should be able to do it. Factory reset and clear cache a whole bunch of times.
Just wanted to add I had the same error recently and tried everything. Nothing would fix
Seeing this twice in just a few days has me wondering if VZW has something buried in NK2 ...
I just registered because I'm having this same problem and haven't been able to solve it. I've never flashed any of my phones until last night, because of this error. I followed the instructions in Misterxtc's thread, but no dice. Still looking for help.

The only way I can do that is to get the phone to boot, which it will not get past the error stated in this thread: "SECURE FAIL: modem" I just tried to get all of that to work (sorry the late response was at work) and again it's a no go, I'm going to take it to Verizon, but I'm not optimistic about what kind of results I'm going to get there.
The phone came with the NI2 SW to begin with, and I tried to install that with Odin. gets me about half a second of the normal Samsung splash screen then straight back into the error, after that first boot, no splash only the error.
Thanks for the suggestions though.

I'm in the same boat. I've tried everything to get this issue resolved and I'm not having any luck.
Anyone know how I determine which tar file I should be using (NE9, NCG, etc)? I've got a SM-G900V and I think I've pretty much tried all of the tar files via this link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880.
My Verizon S5 (but being used on T-mobile) was charging in my car when it decided to turn off and reboot and it's been stuck on the Verizon boot screen ever since. I've tried countless times to clear the partition cache as well as factory resetting, with no change, still never goes past the Verizon screen. And more recently I've used odin to reflash the BOG5 .tar, which it was running at the time that the problem occurred, and which odin says was successful, but the phone still never boots past the Verizon screen. I've also tried flashing just the .pit file alone and the .pit file with the .tar file, but the problem remains. This phone was just running the standard ROM at the time of the problem.
I am about ready to throw in the towel, but would be grateful if anyone had some pointers.

In order to help you, can you tell us where you download the OG5.tar?? I just wondering if you actually flashed the stock OG5 tar or the modded OG5 tar. There will be different options depended on which one you used.
It was just the stock tar, the same as before the booting problem. I downloaded one from samsung-updates (can't post links) and another one linked from these forums with the same result. Both files were named G900VVRU2BOG5_G900VVZW2BOG5_G900VVRU2BOG5_HOME.tar.md5. I also tried to install one with an older version bootloader, but it failed, as to be expected I believe since I'm already at bog5. Thanks for the help so far.

Did you try Kies?
I did, but maybe I'll try again. Kies never recognized the phone, I figured because the phone never fully boots up. Should I try to put the phone in download mode? It also looked like Kies only reverts back to a state saved in Kies, but I've never previously done a back up in Kies. Is Kies still useful for me?

Hi Guys. I'm new to this forum so do excuse me if you find my question stupid or in the wrong thread. I have a Galaxy S5 (SM-G900W8) which I tried rooting some time back. But as a result of the rooting, it has gone into a continuous boot loop. I have tried going back into recovery mode and resetting everything along with clearing the cache but that didn't work, Then I tried unrooting the device using ODIN and the stock ROM downloaded from Sammobile. But it showed failed at the end of the process. I thought that it may be because I may used the wrong ROM so now I'm trying to download the ROM used for unknown variants. My question is if there is any other way that I can use to unbrick my boot looped phone or will I have spend money and take to a service centre?
Any help or advise will be sincerely appreciated. It is worth mentioning here that I don't know anything about whether the phone was originally a Sprint or AT&T or Rogers or Bell etc phone.

Try TWRP recovery and flash with ODIN and unpin autoreboot in odin
Thanks for your valuable advise senzatiOn. Much appreciated. I have read about the TWRP recovery and in fact wanted to do that but I believe that there are specific files that are used for this type of recovery. I tried finding the ones suitable for my phone (SM-G900W8) but couldn't. So now if you could please please help me with getting the files and also the procedure to do the recovery using the TWRP method, I would be sincerely obliged.
Thanks

Just use Odin to flash a stock rom.
Install stock via Odin and try again.
If at first you do not succeeded, try and try again.
Out of interest, When you installed the ROM, how long did you wait before restarting the device.
(How long did you leave it on the Samsung Startup logo)
I know Stock modded ROMS when first install can sometimes take upto 10 - 15 minutes to Boot for the first time.
(I remember waiting 20 minutes one time on my note 3)

Thank you
My phone come back to normal thank you very much guys
The way to fix this is pretty straight forward and there are many tutorials online on how to do this.
You will need your stock rom (can be acquired from SamMobile) and Odin (i recommend using 3.0.7) and then plugging your device in to your windows computer (does not work on any other os) and reflashing back to your stock rom. This will 100% work and you should just go to YouTube and search for "How to reflash stock Galaxy S7" after downloading your stock rom.

You must choose the firmware that is correct for your model for example if I had a Galaxy S7 and the model number for it is SM-G9358 i'd then choose the one that says its for the SM-G9358 as well as my carrier for example Optus if there is no correct carrier version then just choose one that is from your country it wont make a huge difference you'll be fine.
If you do not know how to find the model number for your phone it should be somewhere in Settings>About or when you are booting on your device.
Let me know if you need any further assistance.
