Google EARS - Nexus 5 Themes and Apps

I used to have this version on my nexus 4, but when i changed my google account and moved to nexus 5, its not working anymore.
it fails to be installed.
tried this also, but same issue.
any help with a working version?
i really like ears, better than shazam, and it helps that can be put as widget in lock screen.

Have you tried getting from the play store directly? Here's a link for you.

doooh
due to my location in EUROPE, the playstore app is not available.
On my phone search it does not appear, and when i go to it on PC, it says "NO ELIGIBLE DEVICES FOR APP INSTALL".
thats why i had to try with the apk from xda. but now...that one does not work either.
i click the apk to install..it starts..and then..app not installed. thats all.

I'm in Italy and on my N5 was installed by default...
Here it is my apk: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3p60sht7mbiq5fa/GoogleEars.zip
If you are rooted just extract and put the apk directly on system folder, then set the correct permission. rw-r--r--

I am 100% stock unrooted. i will give it a try, though...i doubt it will work.
thanks.

that works, thanks!

I removed it from the system/apps. What does it do anyway?

I'm in Canada and noticed it was already in System/apps, after clicking it gave me the option to install it and it worked. The widget now appears in the widgets area. I'm not able to purchase any music through it even though I can use Google Music, but the song search feature seems to work great, saves me from Googling lyrics every time I want to know the name of a song.

Yeah same as what they do, just a bit better IMO and no need for another app. If you want to be able to purchase the music I believe you need to live in the U.S.A

Obtaining Incompatible APK's?

I've purchased a fair number of applications I'd like to use on my N7 that are listed by the Play Store as incompatible, particularly Machinarium (which I'd really hoped to get into).
Of course a simple Google search of [application name] + apk + [rar/zip/mediafire/other obvious piracy related search terms] will likely get me what I want, but I'd really prefer not to go that route due to providence and, frankly, the fact that I paid for this, I'll figure out if it work or not.
Definitely have the SDK installed, definitely not very great at using it. Any help is well appreciated by my rain drenched weknd.
Are you rooted on your other Android device? You can use root explorer to pull the apks, then just dropbox/email them to the Nexus.
So... Download the app to a compatible device, go into the folder where they keep the app data, copy the apk go your sd card, and then email it or upload to dropbox.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Nice. I most definitely am. Cheers.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
No problem! You should find most apks in the/data/app folder.
Some are hidden other places, so you may need to "search" the file name.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
You don't even need to be rooted. You can backup apps with astro file manager and then find the apps in the backups folder and send them to dropbox or however else you wand to send them

I ran airdroid on the phone and accessed it via chrome on the tablet to get a load of apps. Worked well just ticked the ones I wanted and downloaded a zip file.

Is there any chance this happens because i'm not from the US? im from latin america
if so any way i could get it?
I doubt this will work in Latin America. I saw a pulled apk of this somewhere in the forums.
You could sideload it probably without issue but hen Google would see your IP and likely tell you it isn't supported.
Its no big deal anyway.
Sound hound , shazam, etc... same type.

They've changed name. I remember downloading GoogleEars.apk few months back on here. When I googled it, I got sound search instead. It can't recognize humming or things that you sing to it. Still using SoundHound.
It's there but you need to use Titanium Backup to defrost it - and again after every reboot.
seems that i'll need to buy shazam, thanks anyways

Using Google Hangouts on One with Bloatware

I guess some of you noticed that google just updated Google Talk to replace it with Hangouts. A nice WhatsApp Clone with some beautiful features. I guess cross platform chat (Phone <> PC) is the most interesting part.
If you are an owner of an One which has Google Talk preinstalled as bloatware there is no chance to update this via Google Play unless HTC delivers an update. Too bad we're not able to uninstall bloatware / preinstalled stuff on non rooted devices...
But if you open the Play Store via browser on your computer to instruct it to install Hangouts on your phone, it will overwrite the Google Talk and you're able to use the new Hangouts app

That's what I did myself I wondered why it wouldn't update

I really wish they integrated it with sms/mms app like Facebook Messaging can do... or just made it like iMessage. But I'm happy for the upgrade.
It might not be showing up for folks because it is probably still replicating across the Play servers.
UI Layour is quite nice, hope it gets popular, but i really wanted that it could send sms , like imessage , or sms atleast so i can use that app for all.
edit.

i went to play store on my pc and was able to install it from there on my phone and it replaced my talk app and it seems to work fine.
I opened a thread like this, Hangouts, with how to install and other stuff.
I saw this thread after.

[Q] Google Hangouts / talk

Howdy,
I'm wondering if anyone has been able to get the Hangouts app to work on their N4. I'm running the latest nightly of CM 10.1. I went to install Hangouts from the Play store and it says that I have it installed. However my app is still called Talk and has the Talk interface. Has anyone had luck getting this updated?
Nevermind heh. I just used CM File Manager to move the talk.apk from /system/app to a backup location. Then I went to the Play store and tried again. This time it installed the new version.
I had the same issue. My solution was to go onto the Web store and install it from there to my phone. Seemed to do the trick.

Interesting, I tried that first but it didnt work for me.
I wish I could edit my title so it is more descriptive...
Just uninstall the original Talk app first (using Titanium or anything that's capable of remiving system app).
Seriously i rated this with 1 STAR.
It must say: "Replaces Talk AND REMOVE THE F$$$ING VOICE-CALL FEATURE FROM YOU Talk".
Its best to remove Talk and then install Hangouts.
Does anyone know how to get this working with the N4 if it's not rooted?

Nope - I have two stock, unmodified, new Nexus 4's... one upgraded no problem with the new Google Hangouts that properly replaced Google Talk... and the other, upgrades with Google Hangout but in the app list and everywhere else, still shows Google Talk but no Google Hangout. Under all apps, Google Talk is still shown. If you open it from there, the old Talk launches. If you search Google Play for Google Hangouts, it shows 'Installed' and if you open Google Hangouts from there, it launches the old Google Talk.
Very strange.... gonna try clearing some app data and what not to see if it resolves.

Please let us know if you figure anything out. I'm on stock as well and I'm starting to regret it because of updates like this. I bought this phone for updates but so far, it seems to be behind on that(4.2 OTA took a week). I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling google+ and that didn't work. I thought it might be tied to g+ since Google is trying to make it more involved with Android. I might root this weekend if I don't get it soon.

Google said:
NOTE: If you aren't yet able to install Hangouts on your phone or tablet, or the Play Store "Open" button takes you to the old Talk app, hang tight, we are rolling out Hangouts to everyone over the course of several days. I was having the same issue as others. It shows as installed on the phone (v 1.0.0.1) and via Play Store in a browser.
I was able to use a browser and install it to my wife's Nexus S though.
Here is the APK for v 1.0.0.678017 which I was able to side load and works fine on my N4.
Due to APK file size, I had to upload it in a ZIP archive.

I made the same mistake. I removed the update "3.6.1.44747389", but now the market pushes "3.6.0.44338848" instead. Not sure what the difference is, but I side loaded a backup of the newer version.
The apk SpookyTunes posted worked for me, I have it on my Galaxy tab 2.

[REQUEST] Tapatalk version before the major change

As many of you probably know, the new version of Tapatalk is a hot mess. I wish I've read the comments before upgrading.
Anyone happen to have the apk of the version prior to the major change in the UI and functionality?
I'll dig around in all my backups.
There are so many issues with the update:
1. The app is now ad-supported, but it's free! I paid for the app so I wouldn't see ads.
2. Forum navigation is cumbersome. Why would you force users to tap the most difficult spot to navigate?
3. Everything I load XDA, the "failed to connect to forum" toast pops up. I believe that renders the mark forum as read button useless.
4. 2 start new topic buttons while the mark as read button is hidden in a menu.
5. Color scheme.
6. There's no way to sort your subscribed subforums.
7. What's with the collage at the top once you connect to a forum? All that does is force users to scroll just to see what they want.
8. I could go on by I've got better things to do.
Yeah, it's a complete disaster. Check the attachment, that's version 4.9.5, right before the major UI redesign.
Anyway it just got updated to version 4.10.1.
^ Thanks!
I also paid for the Pro version. The strange thing is that out of the blue (about 2 weeks ago), the Pro version won't allow attachment uploads. It displayed a message to download the version from the Play Store and logging in with a Tapatalk ID to have that functionality and also (coincidentally?) the app force closes every time it's opened shortly after.
That pretty much made me install the version from the Play Store. I smell something is going on to force the current users to download the current ad version. I don't think it is fair for the ones that paid to get rid of the ads.

I believe I saw it in a drop-down menu somewhere. But I'd gone back to Tapatalk Pro temporarily so I don't have it handy to check.
I've also gone back to the Pro version. It is so much better without all the unnecessary bloat.
