N9005 power-off with multitouch+Home - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

To some it happens the same thing?
If you try to wake the phone using the Home button while you move something on the screen, the N9005 power off.
Root with CF Auto Root
Please, help me

Weird. I tried replicating the video, with 1 thru 5 fingers moving all over before and during waking it up via the home button. Nada. Works exactly as it should no matter what I did.
So far I've been able to replicate zero of the issues people post on here with my phone. Either I'm extremely lucky, or there are a lot of unlucky people on here...

[Q] Does anyone have a power button bug?

I am current using PA mar11 build with franco r102 kernel.
I have issues bringing the menu up when you hold the power button. My power button is not broken, because after a restart (using power toggles) it works again.
Happens randomly. I have searched the forums and have not seen anyone mention this, has anyone else experience this?
Update: Do a fresh wipe, problem will go away
What issues do you have exactly? I mean, what exactly do you see when you long-press your power button?

after a long-press no menu comes out and my screen turns off like I pressed it normally.
I have the exact same problem, except that my nexus 4 isn't rooted and I can't use toggle buttons to restart. So basically I cannot restart my phone unless i let the battery running out or i reset the phone.
Weird... I just got this too... restart and it's working again... but for how long.... and I never would have noticed if I wasn't trying to take a screenshot!

I have exactly the same problem running slimrom 6.5 and anarkia kernel.
After a reboot the reboot menu always comes up. After a while it doesn't work anymore. Turning on/off the screen always works, the problem only affects long press.
Has anyone a sultuion for that?

My Nexus 4 is now having this same issue
I thought I was the only one! It happened after a bit of rain with my phone in the pocket and I thought that was the cause but after holding it down and seeing it reset I see that it is not. Wonder why this is happening.
Note: I am running completely stock 4.3 at the moment with a locked bootloader, but this has also happened on 4.2.
I got this issue with franco kernel. putting back the original kernel fixed the issue for me. I was able to reproduce the problem with another nexus 4 phone. there's maybe a config to tweak or i'm messing something up.

[Q] Note 3 hanged

Hi guys,
Anyone encountered your Note 3 hanged and you unable to swipe or press the back button.
The only way to swipe again is to press off and on and you be able to do that.
My phone is brand new and even after I factory reset it still hanged.
Same Hangups with me
The same happens to me with an unchanged Note 3 9005, Vodafone Germany branded; Suddenly the especially the screen freezes.
some buttons still work. Sometimes it works again, sometimes only a reboote works.

Yes, same problem here with a completely stock and non-rooted international (Germany) Note 3. I have had the device now for a little over a week, and the problem occurs quite frequently several times a day. Very annoying, so any fix would be VERY appreciated!
German Unbranded LTE... Apex Launcher, no such issue so far.
Try cleaning your system cache in Recovery.
I get the same problem.
No response to back, menu, home or power button.
If I wait about 10-20 seconds, it will start responding again.
It happens several times a day.
Very annoying. Never had this problem with the Note 2.

I tried this yesterday, but I'm afraid it didn't fix the problem. A couple of hours after cleaning the cache partition I got the next hang.
I gave up on this and decided to ask for a replacement phone. Bummer.

My non-rooted N9005 crashed several times as described below. However I can't replicate them on purpose. It just happened randomly.
On boot-up, when the lockscreen is shown, the device keeps restarting on its on, non-stop. To resolve, I'll need to quickly unlock the phone when the lockscreen is shown. Sometimes it would just keep restarting before the locksreen is shown. When this happens, I'll need to remove the SIM card and the phone would start normally. Then turn it off, reinsert the SIM card, boot-up and quickly unlock the lockscreen. This occurs randomly, but when it occurs, the would keep restarting. Else, phone would boot-up with no issue.
Recorded a video and stopped the recording. Camera hang. From then onwards, can't use camera until reboot.
Enabled the "one-handed operation - use for all screens". Switched to one-handed mode. Not sure what happened, but camera was started when I exit camera, screen is reverted to fullscreen. It should remain in "one-handed" mode. Touch responded to area where the "one-handed operation" window should be. No response to area outside this area. To resolve, re-enter "one-handed" mode and exit.
Phone just hang when games are started which the audio loop playing repeatingly.
My Note3 got hang when I was using facebook...
I m curious it related with RAM... when I check the RAM (after it responds again) it was 2,4 GB of 2,66 (max available)..
After I clear the Memory, then problem stops...
Same issue here..
i'll be scrolling facebook or browsing and i cannot click on links or scroll
weird thing is i can press the back button to close the app or the home button..
there are some other major glitches as well such as Gallery opening VERY SLOWLY.. quick pic is my work around..
waking up the phone with the power button takes longer then expected as well..
coming from a Z10 with less specs and listening to people bash it.. the 3GB quadcore Snapdragon 800 chip with 4.3 jelly bean is deeming to be disappointing..
don't get me wrong i love the device.. just didn't expect so many glithces and slow downs and hangups
Same issue on exynos.

I tried something new today, I've been clearing the Ram memory every 15-30 minutes of constant usage and every time I start using the phone and it seems that I haven't had that problem yet. Makes me think it is related to a process.

4.3 issues after update

Hi all... 2 nagging issues since updating to 4.3. I am stock, never rooted this phone and simply forced the ota update.
When clicking on Google search to open Google now, it will randomly force close. It starts to load my cards, then shuts down. I've cleared app data and same results. Happens randomly.
Works fine when first opened, but kill it then try and reopen it. Half the time it closes on me. Un-installed latest version and reverted to previous update and works fine. I saw someone else complain about the same issue in the play store and I also read that perhaps I should factory reset.
I also noticed the following... if you have ripple effect checked for lock screen, when your phone screen is off, then turn your screen on either with power button or with the home button and swipe to unlock immediately, upon screen waking up, the phone does not always do a smooth transition into the home screen. It seems like the majority of the time it flashes a quick black then into home screen. This behavior does not happen with lock screen effect on none or light.
Can somebody be so kind to test these two issues above (try it several times as it doesn't always happen on first go) and let me know if you are experiencing the same issues before I try a factory reset?
Thanks so much
EDIT: DId the factory reset, and still seeing the above issues. Must be 4.3 bugs. Would still love to get other user feedback
Google search does the same thing to me sometimes. If i click the search bar and start to type or hit the mic too talk it will force close on me. But if i just open it and dont touch anything for a couple seconds and then start typing itll be fine.

Thanks for answering. Can you also test the second issue with ripple effect and unlocking the phone immediately after? At least I cleaned the phone up by doing a factory restart.

Ripple effect is pretty smooth for me and goes straight to the home screen or whatever screen i was on last.

It is for the most part for me, however turn power on and almost instantly as screen turns on swipe the ripple to unlock. See if you get the flashing black.its very short flash.

I don't see it lol i dont like the Ripple effect tho it was cool on the s3 but the light effect is so much better looking

Problems I am having are:
1. Downloaded apps install icon over another app.
2. When I turn on WIFI I get a warning that an app tried to access system without authorization and has been stopped.
The only one that really bothers me is the WIFI problem but the other one is kinda annoying as well.
Never mind, I factory reset and problems went away.

[Q] Annoying bug - short press home key and long press power button not working

Hi,
I've encountered an annoying problem with my SM-N9005 (UK SIM unlocked - 02) running firmware XXUDMJ7 (not routed - no mods).
Periodically, the short press of the home key will not return me to the Touchwiz home screen. Long press of the home button will still bring up the task manager. When this problem occurs, long press no longer brings up the Device Options dialogue. A short press will blank the screen and holding the power button down will eventually reset the device.
Following a reboot, the device will work normally for a while until it reoccurs. I can't correlate this with a particular application being installed or used, and it occurs frequently enough to be seriously annoying.
I haven't yet done a factory reset as installing all apps will be a major waste of time. Has anyone encountered this problem and found a resolution?.
All tips or help gratefully recieved..
Regards,
Alex

No joy... overwrite with the same firmware doesn't change anything. I can't trace this to specific app to unintelligible (or not reinstall) without a few pointers.. any ideas?
Thanks,
Alex
I also have this exact problem and until I read this thread I had to keep pulling the battery every day or so to reset. At least I know I can hold the power button to reset now!
It usually starts when Com.phone.android crashes after ending a call but has also happened when the youtube app hangs. Sometimes the only way to make the screen come back on when this happens is to plug the charger in when it goes into this buggy state.
Any ideas would be great as this is annoying
Same problem here on the device of my girlfriend today. Never had this on mine (both phones snapdragon version).
Thinking of exchanging it.
Happened to me yesterday. No idea what triggered it. A reboot made the problem go away.
Maybe it's a coincidence, but my internal storage was beginning to run out due to a weird problem with the Samsung index service creating huge files for no apparent reason.

It's happened to me as well and I I'm stock not rooted. It didn't happen with my first device. But has happened with this second one. I've had freezing, crashing, blank home screen, power menu not coming up, screen not locking and few more issues. This phone on both my first and second have been so buggy I've thought about another phone altogether. So glad it's not just me. Tired of constantly monitoring RAM and closing out apps. I haven't even installed all my normal apps due to so many problems. My S3 was 10 times more stable than this phone. Note 2 definitely never had this many issues.

I'm running a MJ6 stock ROM with MJ4 baseband. It's a Three UK branded one. Unrooted.
I had quite a lot of apps installed at the time. I also had a couple of Home screen replacement apps, namely Apex Launcher and Nova Launcher, and also Toddler Lock. I enabled Nova Launcher to see if it was a problem with the TouchWiz Home app, but the home button still wouldn't work.
In addition, I couldn't get the power menu to appear. I unusually prefer to do a soft reboot via the menu whenever I can, but on this occasion had to do a hard reboot by holding the power button.
I wonder if this is related to that old Sleep of Death (SOD) issue that other Samsung phones have had. That's happened to me on at least one occasion with with phone.
I'm guessing this is firmware related. I would happily try a custom ROM to see if it solve change anything rather than bombard Samsung with tech support requests, but since they've introduced this Knox nonsense, I have fewer options to try and fix things myself. Perhaps if everyone on XDA were to adopt a policy of calling Samsung's helpdesk every time we experience a software problem, Samsung might find themselves so bogged down with issues that they would realise that allowing users to install custom ROMs probably saves them a fortune in tech support costs. (Sorry about the rant.)

Stock, Sprint MJ7. 2nd phone, last one had bad screen. The last 2 days the clock app stopped and the alarm didn't go off and then I had this behavior.
Go to settings/controls/auto adjust sensibility. Set it out and on. Problem is resolved.
I got a solution.
After a lot of beating around the bush, I called Samsung care. Explained them my inability to operate the Home Key short/single press to go to home screen. I was advised to back up the phone and do a factory reset. I did so and WOLA...... The single press on home key works now.

Can't unlock device without swiping widget

This issue started long ago and has continued across several different ROMs. At the lock screen, often times I can't swipe the lock icon (nothing happens) until I swipe the current widget left or right. This happens with DashClock, ROM default, AOSP, etc. And it's not consistent. Sometimes I can unlock just fine. Any ideas? It's the strangest thing.

Does the screen freeze for a while sometimes when waking the phone up? At least on my phone it does. Sometimes when turning the screen on I have to wait up to 10 seconds or so before it lets me do anything. Are you rooted and using any custom roms? EDIT. Just saw where u said it happens on other roms. I think the problem is originating from screen off/on settings somewhere.

The reason I say that is because lately when the screen comes back on after moving the phone away from my face to hang up a call it will sometimes freeze up and i can't hang the phone up unless I press the power button to do so. This happened when i was on MF3 and still does on MK2 and I'm still on stock rom. We can't use custom kernels because of the locked bootloader and the stock kernel doesn't have unit.d support so any modifications that are usually set during the initial boot are possibly being applied when the screen turns off and on...idk. You can try using the "universal init.d" app to get a similar effect and see if it makes a difference. I'm just going out on a limb here and it may not have anything to do with your problem or mine, but it's a thought.

I'm not on a phone with a locked bootloader. Running KT kernel. Doesn't matter how long I wait, I can't unlock until I swipe the screen left or right - THEN the lock becomes accessible. Its almost like there's an invisible window blocking that part of the screen. I had an issue with Lux where it prevented my from being able to approve Dropbox access. However, even with Lux disabled I'm still having occasional problems.

Are you on the AT&T i337 model? If so you must be one of the luck ones that didn't take the MF3 ota! It sounds like an issue I had before with Touchwiz compatibility with other roms. But if your phone doesn't have a locked bootloader that wouldn't be a problem for you. I haven't found anything yet that explains why my phone acts the way it does, but I'm still looking so if i come accross a solution for you before you fix it ill let you know.
Yeah I've been running a custom ROM since the bootloader was unlocked. I noticed if I hit the power button and turn the screen off then back on, it works. Starting to think this is related to KT kernel. That's the only thing consistent between ROMs.
