Hi guys,
Anyone encountered your Note 3 hanged and you unable to swipe or press the back button.
The only way to swipe again is to press off and on and you be able to do that.
My phone is brand new and even after I factory reset it still hanged.
Same Hangups with me
The same happens to me with an unchanged Note 3 9005, Vodafone Germany branded; Suddenly the especially the screen freezes.
some buttons still work. Sometimes it works again, sometimes only a reboote works.

And i thought it was a launcher that causing this. Seems like I'm not the only one.
Note 3 hanged

Anyone facing the same issue?
anyone? no one having this issue?
My T-Mobile Note 3 did it once, so far.
NOT rooted, stock launcher and browser.

Yes, same problem here with a completely stock and non-rooted international (Germany) Note 3. I have had the device now for a little over a week, and the problem occurs quite frequently several times a day. Very annoying, so any fix would be VERY appreciated!
German Unbranded LTE... Apex Launcher, no such issue so far.
Try cleaning your system cache in Recovery.
I get the same problem.
No response to back, menu, home or power button.
If I wait about 10-20 seconds, it will start responding again.
It happens several times a day.
Very annoying. Never had this problem with the Note 2.
N900 in Thailand, not rooted using Nova launcher.

I tried this yesterday, but I'm afraid it didn't fix the problem. A couple of hours after cleaning the cache partition I got the next hang.
I gave up on this and decided to ask for a replacement phone. Bummer.

My non-rooted N9005 crashed several times as described below. However I can't replicate them on purpose. It just happened randomly.
On boot-up, when the lockscreen is shown, the device keeps restarting on its on, non-stop. To resolve, I'll need to quickly unlock the phone when the lockscreen is shown. Sometimes it would just keep restarting before the locksreen is shown. When this happens, I'll need to remove the SIM card and the phone would start normally. Then turn it off, reinsert the SIM card, boot-up and quickly unlock the lockscreen. This occurs randomly, but when it occurs, the would keep restarting. Else, phone would boot-up with no issue.
Recorded a video and stopped the recording. Camera hang. From then onwards, can't use camera until reboot.
Enabled the "one-handed operation - use for all screens". Switched to one-handed mode. Not sure what happened, but camera was started when I exit camera, screen is reverted to fullscreen. It should remain in "one-handed" mode. Touch responded to area where the "one-handed operation" window should be. No response to area outside this area. To resolve, re-enter "one-handed" mode and exit.
Phone just hang when games are started which the audio loop playing repeatingly.
My Note3 got hang when I was using facebook...
I m curious it related with RAM... when I check the RAM (after it responds again) it was 2,4 GB of 2,66 (max available)..
After I clear the Memory, then problem stops...
Same issue here..
i'll be scrolling facebook or browsing and i cannot click on links or scroll
weird thing is i can press the back button to close the app or the home button..
there are some other major glitches as well such as Gallery opening VERY SLOWLY.. quick pic is my work around..
waking up the phone with the power button takes longer then expected as well..
coming from a Z10 with less specs and listening to people bash it.. the 3GB quadcore Snapdragon 800 chip with 4.3 jelly bean is deeming to be disappointing..
don't get me wrong i love the device.. just didn't expect so many glithces and slow downs and hangups
Same issue on exynos.

I tried something new today, I've been clearing the Ram memory every 15-30 minutes of constant usage and every time I start using the phone and it seems that I haven't had that problem yet. Makes me think it is related to a process.

Really weird, doesn't seem to happen when the tablet is stressed or something. On the other hand happened more often with heavy memory stuff like big pdf's and when i live youtube videos loading, maybe I have an issue with the 2 gig's of ram? it's there any way i can test that?
Sometimes the tablet isn't doing anything an restarts. Like when the home screen is blocked. Anyone else had this problems?

I would suggest you try flashing the nexus 10 factory restore image and see if that fixes things. If it's still randomly rebooting I'd send it in for a replacement.

Guys, I think found a pattern: Each time I get a reboot seems to be related to the wifi connection, like if the wifi freezes the tablet. Pay atention to the wifi settings when you get reboot / restart the tablet it's like searching the wifi connection like crazy, but, if you reboot normally the wifi it's already connected. Seems like a clue to me.
I played like 4 hours yesterday Chaos Rings. Seems like a really advanced game to me, so the stressing test is passed. It's not related to stress IMHO.
I've been getting random reboots too. Took several attempts to get all the way through setup right after taking it out of the box. At first I thought maybe I just hadn't given it enough time to acclimate to ambient temperature or something, but problem has persisted even after flashing the factory image via fastboot. Haven't noticed a correlation with wifi, but does seem to happen mostly when idle. Have also had a couple freezes and shutdowns, too.
Guess I'll be calling Google this morning... Argh.

I actually haven't had any reboots yet. I haven't stressed it with any games, but installed my normal apps and used it for web browsing/xda for a couple hours and no problems for me (yet...fingers crossed)
Called Google, and after being on hold for almost 1/2 hour (I'd imagine they're pretty swamped) explained the issue as well as what I've already done to try to resolve it (factory reset, fastboot recovery image flash) and they started the replacement process without any additional questions.
Just my luck, the first time in ages that I buy a device the day it comes out, I end up with a dud... Hopefully I get the replacement quickly!
I'm really nervous at this point. Mine is perfect aside from a piece of dust in the screen. Google is sending me a new one, but now I am afraid I will get one with more issues.
no more reboots here. But i think it's a software problem.
I have had two unexpected reboots. One was about halfway through ep. 1 of Planet Earth. I don't recall what I had running the other time.
I'm still running stock 4.2, unrooted.

Mine rebooted then rebooted three times in a row before even getting in the desktop.
+1 Reboots
3 reboots in the past hour! Location svcs disabled.
Sometimes under load (gaming), other times just random.
It has happened several times caused by various apps such as chrome, play store, dolphin after downloading something. Screen freezes and system eventually resets on it's own. Is anyone else having this problem?
Build: JOP40C
Same here, restarted and frozen 3-4 times in couple of hours.
I was browsing, using apps, dowloading in background, loads of syncing etc - maybe taxing the system causes it? (But i though it should handle it a bit better...)
I had a couple of reboots but no freeze before the firmware update.
After the update it hasn't rebooted but it froze once

My keeps loosing Wi-Fi and completely shut down every time I turn it off and didn't turn back on in 5 seconds. Making things worse I have to wait several minutes until it allows me to turn it on by pressing power for a 5 seconds. In those few minutes it does not react on power button at all.
Factory reset did not help. Sadly it looks like I have no options other than return it back.
+1 reboots and freezing. Don't really want to return it since its finally rooted and cust recovery. Anyone think waiting for cust Roms will help?

Mine had been randomly restarting after installing some of my apps. I finally narrowed it down to HD Widgets and haven't had a reboot since uninstalling it.
I am not using HD Widgets and I get restarts periodically. What is the most efficient way to submit a bug report to google.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 2
Just got an RMA for mine for the same issues u guys are experiencing. Wifi disconnecting and chrome freezing and rebooting. Looks like it may not be a hardware issue. Wonder if I should just keep it and wait for an update.
Edit - It was fine before the software update. Probably should ignore it once I get my replacement unit
I am also seeing the reboots happening every 3 to 4 hours like clockwork. I didn't have the device for more than a few minutes before the first update was pushed to it, so I can't say whether or not that was related. I do have HD Widgets installed, so I will pull it off and see if that helps slow the reboots down.
I'm using BootLog Uptime to keep track of the number and frequency of reboots. If this pattern holds, my money is on some kind of memory leak... just thinking from our own development experiences. Given how much higher the resolution is on the N10, I wouldn't count out some graphics heavy apps blowing through their heap much, much faster than on any previous Android device. We'll have to wait and see.
Just called Google and asked for replacement. I hope they aired new updates at the time my replacement arrived.
BTW, I had to initiated factory reset five or six times until it finally clears all data. Never saw Google product so buggy before.
That's a real bummer. Mine doesn't reset or display any of those problems. I have a tiny bit of light bleed in one corner at full brightness and the screen seems to have gotten a little more yellow over time... maybe just the glue drying. If any of you are brave and don't want to return right away, unlock the bootloader and reflash the stock image from google and see if that fixes things. It can help if there was some sort of corruption when you updated.
You may want to wait on that RMA. I had the same trouble with HD widgets installed.
No trouble at all since uninstalling...

I've never even touched hd widgets and have had two lock ups since I got it on Friday. Both occurred when task switching back to chrome and it was loading a previously viewed web page. Both times I was able to tap the power button to shut off the screen but couldn't wake it up. It eventually reset itself. It boots in like 5 seconds so it's not too terrible to wait for a software update, but I wonder what is causing it?
I think Chrome has some major bugs to be squashed when running on this device....mine has only crashed when browsing. That said, after uninstalling HD widgets, no crashes since...

I'd like to update my results. From last night, just like djflan, I removed HD Widgets and so far, 7 hours later, the crashes are gone. So I have my fingers crossed that I've found my culprit.
Also, I installed the HoloWeb browser and I have found it to be quite a bit quicker and more stable than Chrome. For those of you have issues with Chrome it is worth a few moments to track this app down (here on XDA) and give it a try.
Some of you may not have remembered or gone through the Android 3.x transition, but these kinds of issues were very prevalent during that update as well. Many developers simply don't or can't test on a wide enough range of devices and OS combinations to catch all the issues, or they rely heavily on assumptions or code that "always worked fine" in the past. I think we're seeing the same sorts of behaviors again with 4.2, so it will take a couple of months for it all to shake out.
For now I think I have a stable configuration on the Nexus 10 and I'm sticking with the device. No RMAs will solve issues that are software related in my case.
Removed hd widgets, no crashes yet.
I get the same random reboots and I've never used the fancy widget app. it has happened 3 times already. One I was browsing, another time deleting a widget and the last one when I tried to change the wallpaper. Everytime I had to hold the power button 5-6 seconds until it reboot

Hi,
I've encountered an annoying problem with my SM-N9005 (UK SIM unlocked - 02) running firmware XXUDMJ7 (not routed - no mods).
Periodically, the short press of the home key will not return me to the Touchwiz home screen. Long press of the home button will still bring up the task manager. When this problem occurs, long press no longer brings up the Device Options dialogue. A short press will blank the screen and holding the power button down will eventually reset the device.
Following a reboot, the device will work normally for a while until it reoccurs. I can't correlate this with a particular application being installed or used, and it occurs frequently enough to be seriously annoying.
I haven't yet done a factory reset as installing all apps will be a major waste of time. Has anyone encountered this problem and found a resolution?.
All tips or help gratefully recieved..
Regards,
Alex

No joy... overwrite with the same firmware doesn't change anything. I can't trace this to specific app to unintelligible (or not reinstall) without a few pointers.. any ideas?
Thanks,

I also have this exact problem and until I read this thread I had to keep pulling the battery every day or so to reset. At least I know I can hold the power button to reset now!
It usually starts when Com.phone.android crashes after ending a call but has also happened when the youtube app hangs. Sometimes the only way to make the screen come back on when this happens is to plug the charger in when it goes into this buggy state.
Any ideas would be great as this is annoying
Same problem here on the device of my girlfriend today. Never had this on mine (both phones snapdragon version).
Thinking of exchanging it.
Happened to me yesterday. No idea what triggered it. A reboot made the problem go away.
Maybe it's a coincidence, but my internal storage was beginning to run out due to a weird problem with the Samsung index service creating huge files for no apparent reason.

It's happened to me as well and I I'm stock not rooted. It didn't happen with my first device. But has happened with this second one. I've had freezing, crashing, blank home screen, power menu not coming up, screen not locking and few more issues. This phone on both my first and second have been so buggy I've thought about another phone altogether. So glad it's not just me. Tired of constantly monitoring RAM and closing out apps. I haven't even installed all my normal apps due to so many problems. My S3 was 10 times more stable than this phone. Note 2 definitely never had this many issues.

I'm running a MJ6 stock ROM with MJ4 baseband. It's a Three UK branded one. Unrooted.
I had quite a lot of apps installed at the time. I also had a couple of Home screen replacement apps, namely Apex Launcher and Nova Launcher, and also Toddler Lock. I enabled Nova Launcher to see if it was a problem with the TouchWiz Home app, but the home button still wouldn't work.
In addition, I couldn't get the power menu to appear. I unusually prefer to do a soft reboot via the menu whenever I can, but on this occasion had to do a hard reboot by holding the power button.
I wonder if this is related to that old Sleep of Death (SOD) issue that other Samsung phones have had. That's happened to me on at least one occasion with with phone.
I'm guessing this is firmware related. I would happily try a custom ROM to see if it solve change anything rather than bombard Samsung with tech support requests, but since they've introduced this Knox nonsense, I have fewer options to try and fix things myself. Perhaps if everyone on XDA were to adopt a policy of calling Samsung's helpdesk every time we experience a software problem, Samsung might find themselves so bogged down with issues that they would realise that allowing users to install custom ROMs probably saves them a fortune in tech support costs. (Sorry about the rant.)

Stock, Sprint MJ7. 2nd phone, last one had bad screen. The last 2 days the clock app stopped and the alarm didn't go off and then I had this behavior.
Go to settings/controls/auto adjust sensibility. Set it out and on. Problem is resolved.
I got a solution.
After a lot of beating around the bush, I called Samsung care. Explained them my inability to operate the Home Key short/single press to go to home screen. I was advised to back up the phone and do a factory reset. I did so and WOLA...... The single press on home key works now.

The downloading screen is just a bootloader screen for flashing rom while odin. If you isn't flashing rom, you don't need to wait for it since the phone is doing nothing.
Got a reboot once on PAW FW. Nothing after.
Yep had one yesterday after using bbc iplayer, tried to go back into iplayer from multitasking and it froze then went black . .used the volume and power for 7 secs and everything came back on . .
Hoping this is just software. .
Mine is UK version and got it on the 8th . .
Read that the S6 had similar problems
Anyone have a fix for this or do I need to take it back to Verizon? I'm in the US and have the same issue. It has happened to me multiple times.
I get automatic reboots as well as full screen lockup for 7-10 minutes where it reboots itself. Both seem to occur when I'm trying to do something immediately after doing something else. Examples are when I hit send on a text/tweet and then pull down the task bar while it's in the process of sending the text/tweet or when rotating screen to look at a picture in landscape mode in Facebook and immediately tapping the center of the screen to get rid of the text on the screen.
This has now happened every day I've had the phone (Friday, Saturday, and now Sunday). It's getting quite old. Any help would be appreciated before I take my phone back to Verizon tomorrow.

i experienced the same issue, freezing up, i reset my phone and someone told to me to install an optimizer to help my phone by freezing up

Anyone have an update to this thread? Has anyone gotten a fix for this? Or should I just send my phone back and get another? Thanks for any help.
Just had another freeze and shutdown . .doesn't reboot but requires me too use power on and volume keys for 7 seconds to restart phone. .really hope its a software problem ..seems to happen on multi tasking
same for Galaxy S6
i have the Galaxy S6 and i have the same probleme, my phone keep freezing and some time rebooting, i try the safe more but still freezing, i delete the new installed app with no luck.
some other wesite say this is an apps crash that make the phone freezing, but i don't know.
Don't worry, Samsung will fix this with an update. Only had 1 reboot and it was on PAW fw.. now that I'm on pb4 it haven't happened once.
I have a verizon S7 edge, and have had multiple reboots on the phone, with no consistent pattern. It has done it while sitting on the bed untouched/unused. It remounts the SD card every time this happens. I'm really stunned there is no word from Samsung about this issue
I have had the same issue. I worked with a Samsung support member who was helpful in attempting to troubleshoot and log the issue. I ran my phone in safe mode for a few hours in hopes that it may have been an app I downloaded causing the freezing issue but unfortunately the phone froze again while in safe mode. According to Samsung, my next step is to go to a Samsung Experience shop in a Best Buy and have them do a software flash. I'm heading there today and if its successful I'll be sure to post about it.
samsung s7 edge freezing
i have a samsung galaxy edge 7 and it just froze on me too the screen froze and non of the buttons worked for the rest either so i popped the sim card n it unfroze.
Hey, this is software problem. Dont take it back phones. Maybe chrome, messenger freeze phone. Just send feedback Samsung. Samsung will fix this with update. Its not phone problem. Easy guys...
Most of the time, my Note 7 is instantly responsive no matter how heavily loaded it is.
Every few hours, though, it gets into a mode with serious UI-feedback lag. In this mode, when I tap any key or icon, the corresponding click-and-vibration feedback is delayed by up to one or two seconds. Often I can type several characters with no feedback, followed a second later by a rapid-fire sequence of the delayed clicks and vibrations.
When the phone is in lag mode, the lag occurs in all apps and with both keyboards I've tried (Samsung and Google). And it's not just during typing; tapping on any icon produces the same lag. Lag mode is not fixed by closing all apps, turning on Airplane mode, clearing the clipboard, switching to a different keyboard app, or clearing the keyboard cache or data. (Clearing the clipboard did seem to fix the problem on one occasion, but not subsequently.)
Rebooting the phone does fix the problem--until it comes back again a few hours later. I've tried booting into recovery and clearing the system cache, but the problem still comes back in a few hours. I have not had time to try a factory reset. But the phone is completely stock (APH1), no power-saving turned on, no debloating or esoteric settings or apps.
As I said above, most of the time the phone doesn't have this problem, no matter how many apps are running. And when the lag occurs, the phone is not hot and is not draining the battery. So it's not a matter of the phone being overloaded; rather, it's a specific bug in the UI feedback.
The problem arises at seemingly random times. I have not noticed any pattern as to what triggers it.
Here's a video demonstrating the problem, both for typing and for icon-tapping:
https://vid.me/iYya
And just for contrast, here's a video of the phone when it's working properly, with no UI-feedback delay:
https://vid.me/GF82
Again, when the phone is in lag-mode, it lags in all apps, for typing and for all icon-taps, etc. The videos show only one particular app for illustration.

Same thing for me as well. I've heard whispers it's an AT&T thing. Been trying to fix by turning off Battery Optimizer for certain apps and using package disabled. I've noticed it's most consistently caused by locking and unlocking again within a specific time window. Like if you're using the phone, then you put it to sleep, and come back within about 10 min, it does it's lag mode.
If anyone who's having this specific UI-lag problem tries a factory reset, please report whether or not the problem comes back after that.
I did the factory reset multiple times but it didn't solve the lag issue..

After the factory reset, did you restore using backups (e.g., smart switch, directly transferring SD card) or did you set up as a new phone. I was having very bad lag. I used Smart Switch the first time. After a factory reset and rebuilding from scratch (without Smart Switch) my lag problem is gone. There is some discussion of this over at Android Central.

This lag seems to be AT&T specific

Thanks. That's disappointing but important to know, both diagnostically and also to save everyone else the effort of duplicating the attempt.
I'd be very curious to see if an unlocked (no AT&T bloat) N7 has the same issue on AT&T. If I get a N7, I'm hoping to wait until unlocked versions become available.
I have the same problem. It's the only thing I don't like about the phone. Hopefully they will update it soon.
All samsung phones has that. A new custom rom will fix it.
Same problem, sprint... Stock, TouchWiz. Switched to nova and it doesn't seem to have helped much.
I'm finding the problem may be gone. It hasn't shown up in the last 48 hours (compared to several times a day up until then).
There's nothing I'm aware of doing differently now, other than having turned off Report Diagnostic Info in Settings|General Management. I'm skeptical that that has anything to do with the reversal (but not quite skeptical enough to try turning it back on just yet).
Perhaps the improvement is due to an app update, or perhaps it's a delayed effect of clearing the system cache (though the problem did crop up once or twice after the cache-clearing, before it stopped occurring). Has anyone else seen the problem go away?
UPDATE: The feedback-lag returned after about 60 hours. Again, no obvious trigger. Very annoying.
Hi guys,
I am having similar issues. Most of the times the UI is pretty smooth, but intermittently it starts lagging, opening apps takes 1-2 secs and scrolling the pages isnt smooth, its very annoying esp considering the device is barely few days old. Need some fix to this, or its a dead investment!

Wait, are you talking about the same feedback problem that this thread is about? Taking a second to load an app isn't necessarily unreasonable. But a one-second lag for haptic feedback defeats the whole purpose of the feedback and is clearly a bug.

What i mean is that the lag isnt just restricted to feedback, the phone seems to stutter overall, scrolling on pages and apps is jittery. And this is noticeable since when it doesn't occur the phone is buttery smooth! I tried the google now launcher and it still persists. Turning the animations to 0.5x didnt help either.
Oh ok. Yeah, I'm using the Google Now launcher too. For me, the lag problem disappeared about 58 hours ago though. Just out of curiosity, do you have Report Diagnostic Info enabled in Settings|General Management?
UPDATE: The lag came back after about 60 hours.
Just for completeness, I should mention that after the phone went into lag mode, I also tried turning haptic/audio feedback off and then back on. But the lag did not stop.
