Highly Dissatisfied-4.3 XXUEMK4 on N7100. - Galaxy Note II General

Hello Friends...
As we all have updated our N7100 to official Android 4.3 XXUEMK4. The update is high dissatisfaction as compared to 4.1.2. Many people are facing problems. No proper procedure for root access. Extremely slow charging. Worst app KNOX. Many other useless apps Goolgle Play Books Games Hubs, etc.. Though the interface is good. I'm totally dissatisfied. My friends too. Express your views friends for the worst ever 4.3.

i think knox app is good...really good actually.
the nuisance is it come with knox bootloader.

Try custom roms and stop crying. I'm extremely happy with mk4 base. Rinning phoenix v15.7

KNOX is not even installed, you can hide the app in the stock launcher easily.
The boot-loader is however an inconvenience if you want to use custom roms. For me since i don't use s-pen features i'm not very affected by the lack of the new N3 features.
However i am disappointed by the fact that they did not update the weather widget. On my tab2 on 4.2 they updated it. And i think that this is the reason they "forgot" to change it for the S3/N2 since those devices skipped 4.2 they also skipped the weather widget update.
Summing it up, the 4.3 as far for now, the battery is great, witch is the most important thing, the performance and overall smoothness of the rom is good (and ofc it is since is a N2) GSM/H+ signal and speed are great, GPS lock si fast, wireless connects fine.
P.S: The SNote app could have been updated though, i mean only interface wise, excepting the new features.

IMO, 4.3 has failed us all...all the note 2 users.. As mentioned above, loong charging time with shorter back up, lagging ui, knox curse, lack of any useful note 3 features and all, samsung has hurried through this update only to try their last desperate luck on gear sales. I was soo late to discover that and for me, i have tasted this **** and looks like we all have to continue tasting it with the knox bootloader lock curse...

Good for me
:good:4.3 update sees good to me.
Although initially it was difficult for me to root now I found an easy way.
Stock rom was pretty stable and no lag issues for me. Battery backup was a little low than 4.1.2 but charging time is same.
It takes upto 2 hours 15 mins to charge from 0 to 100. I recently installed Criskelo rom and results are pretty amazing. Battery life is hell lot better than stock,
no lag issues, imported note 3 features and heavily debloated . Its my daily driver now and i will stick to it till I find something more better.
You guys can try it...I have tried almost every 4.3 rom..but this is Criskelo is best.
anyone of you with any better custom rom?
thanks

Simply root your phone and remember first go in knox mode and uninstall it from settings in knox mode and than download philz recovery v5.something
And than install supersu than when you reboot it says knox have blocked superuser/su dont worry just go to playststore and upgrade supersu and it will uninstall knox permanently and than flash ditto note 3 rom awesome rom guys around 99%features of note 3 with no error believe im using it!

in many countries wifi is not available just anywhere and everywhere, so phone doesnt need wifi....

Yup. I do wish people would learn to read up on things before just blindly flashing them. If you're not a regular on this site then that sort of thing is to be expected, but regular visitors to this site that have been caught out by Knox REALLY should have known better than just installing the latest Stock willy nilly.
Serves them right, really. I have no sympathy at all.

highly satisfied with the update, no joke, my daily driver for sure

Rom Addict But...Is this too good??

I've had the Note 2 now since the release in the UK and all I can say is perfection! The barrery life is the best I have ever had! Normally end day at work still on 80-90% (My One X would be dead!)
It is smooth as silk everything works as it should! Its got the latest software already on there...
Im normally the first to root and custom rom and get rid of everything to keep pure google..but with this I dont even feel like putting on a custom rom simply worried that it may ruin it!??? Anyone else keeping away from modding their device or is it just me??
Yep. Dont see the need so far.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
I can understand you, but I rooted the fcuk out of it as soon as I got it! Too many hexcellent apps out there that demand root
Have to agree.
I've not even bothered rooting it yet, which I'd normally do on day 1, and I'm now on day 8.
I will still root at some point though, mostly for the root only apps though.
Note 2 - Android how it should be done!

Dave

Pure perfection does not exist but like most here I guess there is general concensus that this is truly an amazing device we got. Though to myself how boring something that works as good as that. Anyway I use omega and also perseus kernel lovely if you want to try OC an its limit though its fast enough or even beter under volting and this furthermore seems to show how great the HW is.
Things I just dont like is the high 320 dpi funny on tab 7.7 it was too low now here to big for my taste....so waiting with hope to see changes there dreaming about paranoid with full pen support.....

I haven't modified or put any custom ROM every in my life and won't do it on my Note II as well.
The simpler it is, the better it is.

+1 I agree fully, this is the best out of the box Samsung device i ever had. Do not feel the need to root at all, let alone flash a custom rom wich atm adds nothing to what we allready have. Kudoz to Sammy in this case
yep agree, no need for a Custom Rom on this. It has everything you need.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
For the moment I don't think root is necessary (i can live with titanium apps not being restored, can be manually done but without its data).
I think I will root only if development breaks through the split screen multitasking to add more apps into it.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
I rooted it but after using a couple different roms I don't see any need for them. I really only wanted root to be able to remove anything I really didn't need and to be able to use any apps that require root. I might eventually use a custom kernel but that's pretty much it.
I have no desire to root my Note 2 at this time as it does everything I want from it and does so seamlessly.
Once I have my T-Mobile provided Note 2 I may well keep the international/unlocked version to toy with new ROM's and root apps. Selling this unit OTOH puts $$ back in my pocket. To be decided later. My daily carry Note 2 will remain factory stock unless a firmware update reduces its versatility or usability.
I will get my Note2 later today and the first thing i will do is root the baby. If it was only for Adfree Android and some other indispensable applications.
I will see about aftermarket ROM's later. It will depend on the usability. And if I hear you guys talking about I think that won't happen for a while.
Rooted 15 minutes after I opened the box. I needed to transfer data from my s3
That's the only thing that is badly needed to this android. Anything else can be avoided even from a flash addict like me. ( a flash my nexus 7 twice a day to keep me sane )
There are some useful mods like skip track , call recording etc. I am with wanam 1.1 and everything looks great.
Rom is a choice for note 2 but root is necessity for android.
Come on, you are in xda , you hold an android device , chainfire already gave root and you want to stay unrooted?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
I have bricked my first Note because of flashing addiction first and because of trying to get rid of some of its shortcomings like slow Contact app scrolling etc.now that the new one adressed all of the issues I was complaining from I didnt even see a need for a root so far, the stock ROM seems to be sufficient enogh.
I root all my devices, usually for AdAway, hate ads when browsing. Titanium backup pro as well for back ups. Usually custom roms and kernels bring user fixes to shortcomings in OEM software.

Yea this phone is really amazing. My only gripe atm is no polaris office which I was sorta expecting. Hopefully soon they will release it. But having to switch from S3 to Note2 I am really satisfied.
With s3 i had to custom rom it on the first day. With this I dont mind the bloat, cause i still have tons of free memory.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
I rooted mainly to swap ext sd with int sd so I can install more stuff
also i cant live without the 15toggle & titanium
Its still as smooth & stable with root. I think samsung has outdone itself this time. This product is just perfect.
The battery life is awsome. it feels like its twice better then Note1.
I gave my wife my SGS III yesterday and got the Note II. I am loving it, right off the bat it does seem smoother than the S3. With that said, I immediately rooted it and installed Omega. Not so much because it needed it, more because I'm pretty much obsessed with the removal of bloatware and apps that I don't use.

I haven't rooted mine. I was also a ROM addict on the S I and S II.
But with this TW build I don't really see a need yet. It's really good. I know a lot of people prefer the stock experience, but I personally like many of Samsungs additions.
And yeah, battery life is amazing. Not having to worry about battery life at all is probably the greatest feature of this phone.

loss of features if not using stock rom?

just ordered my note 10.1 yesterday. should be here next week!
i have an s3, and i just updated it to the latest version of AOKP.
of course i'll be rooting it but i was wondering if anyone thought the tradeoff to using a different rom was worth it. i got the note for work (mainly notes and powerpoints) so i'd hate to not be able to use any of the features that really set it apart from other android tablets!
My personal experience left me inclined to stay with a touchwiz based custom ROM, some extra power and flexibility without losing anything. CM and AOKP are nice as always, but on this particular tablet I really find features like multi window, smart stay and air view to be well worth their weight. There's a growing selection of roms that retain all of the Note's features. I really liked Android revolution a lot, am currently on Collective edition. You can even enable all apps to multi window, which is just savvy!

Yep, I Cant Understand Why People Pay Premium $$$ then Go Vanilla Android And Loose All those Features They Bought The Note For In The 1st Place.... Each To Their Own...
Just Be Aware Too, Because Of All The Tweaks And Things Running In The Background You Might Find Your Battery Draining A Lot Faster... At Least, That Was My Experience. Went Back To Stock Rooted And Battery Lasts Longer...

I bought this tablet for the Wacom technology and s-pen, combined with the excellent hardware. All of that is perfectly fine in AOSP. Palm rejection, s-pen support, etc.
I did not buy this tablet to have multi view, but I can see where that would be a non-negotiable.

I tried "Android Revolution HD" and "Omega" ROM, both are very nice and are touchwiz modified roms.
You should check them out.
Android Revolution HD
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119547
Omega
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2131474
One or both of them may use Aroma installer so may want to stick to Zedomax "HighOnAndroids CWM".
Zedomax also has a post "How to ROOT Galaxy Note 10.1" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831152
And here is one of his many .coms that he has that has an embeded step by step video on how to root you note 10.1, his root method includes CWM that does work with Android Revolution HD and Omega ROMs. http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-note-10-1-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-10-1-easiest-methodcwmmethod-2/
TIP: I download the video of Zedomax root process onto my computer along with the files needed to root so I have them all in one place.

Whoa! Thanks!!

+1 - It Must Be The Custom ROM He's Using; Perhaps The Keyboard Is Broken In It
Kidding aside though, normally I only deal with AOSP-capable devices, but you have to admit that the TW version (and features) we have on the Note 10.1 are pretty nice- so I'm using ROMs that are as close to Stock as possible (namely, Darkman's ROMs and lately AR HD 5.0).
Also, most complaints about "bloatware" are completely unfounded and appear to come from users who read not-quite-fully-understood posts on forums like these. I've never used Crayon Whatever-it's-called nor the Music Hub, and the effect of either is negligible. They don't take up much in the way of storage either (esp. on devices with at least 11GB of free space out of the box).
Actually it's the stock rom for Australia... Was using my note to post... Samsung seem to have a bug in JB they released for us poor buggers down here. Only real problem with the stock rom though...:silly::laugh:
Not gonna complain too much though, It took them long enough to release it...

99% of the time its being used it's to keep the All-Share Cast Dongle working, which (due to DRM reasons) won't run if the flash counter is greater than 0. It really doesn't affect anything else, AFAIK.

Weird lag experience on the phone.

Anyone experiencing weird lag on the note4?
I bought two note4 for my lines since one was to be given to father. I rooted both phones on the same day of purchase. I realized that for my phone, I'm experiencing some weird lag moments. Sometimes I would type fast enough to finish the sentence but the keys don't register until a few seconds later. Sometimes scrolling through a page, it would stop and wouldn't move until a few seconds later.
I'm hoping that this is just software issue. Can't wait til we have a custom recovery and rom to flash.

Loving my Note 4... but
IT IS VERY LAGGY!!!
As it is, this incredible phone is completely spoiled by a jerky experience, and this is using Google Apps which are usually very smooth, like Play Store, Gmail, Hangouts, Google Plus, and other well made apps like Pulse and Facebook... all usually very smooth, but not with the Note4 I got yesterday. My nexus 5 was much smoother, with a much slower processor.
Do any of you in the UK have the update yet, I have not had it yet?

You guys should read the "root and what works" thread, because this was already solved. Wanam causes a conflict with Shealth and you have to go into Wanam, security hacks, disable secure storage. then go to settings/apps and clear s health data and cache and then reboot I've done this on the latest update, and now have no lag issues

Ah yes, the ability to search and read has been getting worse and worse.
I'm also getting random lag, even before root, xposed and wanam. Seems to be the same as the s4, s5 and note 2 previously. Once custom kernels are out with better scheduling, it should be remedied.

My phone is not rooted yet... if it cannot work without lag with the stock rom, I will not keep it and it will go back to EE... so I am hoping the update comes very soon. I suggest everyone who has just got their Note 4 does NOT root it until they are satisfied it works as well as they expect it to... it's a lot of money and you have the right to return it within 2 weeks if ordered online (in the UK/EU).

This is the United States.. If I don't like the phone, even rooted... I can return it.. If they don't let me, just file a credit card claim. I paid the phone, I own it.. I can do whatever I want to the software.
I hate it when people jump in scared of Knox or voiding warranty.

Will check it out.. I don't even use s-health so I didn't think this was the issue.
No lag here
Mine is VERY laggy, throughout all the menus in comaprison to my note3, running cm11 or hyperdrive.
I have xposed (which I think is the main issue, but I need it to run xprivacy), nova, the new firmware update, its rooted (post update) and wanam installed in order to get shealth working.
The phone itself is great, but the over all software implementation is pretty poor. No way a device from a major manufacturer, should be outdone in responsiveness by some AWESOME hobbyists.
With the same setup, as my note3 (side by side), screens change slower, scrolling is slower, and apps open a tad slower. The overall experience is just no where near as smooth as quick.
Now I am comparing 1yr of ROM development (hyper and temasek) vs a 2day release(stock note4), so of course some tweaks need to be made.
If you have a note3 rooted, might want to wait a few weeks before dropping $750.
Also I had to manually up the core speed to 2.7 in faux clock, mine was set at 2.3 for some reason.
The screen is AWESOME, the speaker is surprisingly nice, build quality and feel are top notch (no gaps, or peeling paint, or loose buttons!!!), and the camera really is nice upgrade that I didn't expect I would be happy about.
I only get 42,921 on antutu, which was what I get on my note3 at 2.3ghz ( not over clocked)
That's pretty bad overall performance out the box IMO.
Disabled a lot for me to get rid of the lag. Tons of background apps. Buy main resource hog is the tmobile apps

share your experience to help me tranfer from ios

hello dear xda community!
it has been a while since i was last here.
i owned a gs2 but made the move to ios with iphone 5 and currently use iphone 6.
I am considering buying note 4 (c variant with exynos)!mostly for the great screen ,battery life and not overheating( almost all other androids can cook your hand)
i lurked around here to do some digging and i keep seeing members having big problems with battery drains, overheating and slow down...( i will be skipping on note 5 as it will not come to europe and mostly because of no removable battery-micro sd)
have i missed something? is the big res scree bogging down the phone?
owning an iphone, performance is a given for me.
Please share your honest views since you own the device and help me make the move!
got sick of same damn thing and restrictions (ios)
My best advice to you would be stick with iOS. I own Note 4. Previously owned lots of flagship android phones and before that iPhone 3GS, 4S and 5S. I will shift to 6S when it will be available in my country because I am tired of bloated SW solutions from big firms and sick of flashing custom roms that almost never match the performanco of camera with stock. iOS is still the best SW you can get and I will stick with it for a while.
Regarding android IMHO Note 4 is the best you can hope taking other 2015 flahships in mind that are not worth the upgrade specialy with SD 810, no microSD and non-replacable battery that is getting smaller and smaller despite constant *****ing about it's insufficiencuy. With latest 5.1.1 it is realy fast, takes great pictures and battery life is awsome. I have no problems with it and till now it is as close to iOS experience as it gets.

Stick whit IOS my friend ....
My 910f is realy awsome whit 5.1.1, no overheat, no lag and superb battery, but ios much much better in stabiliti and before android 5.1.1 it has better performance.
you see, the thing is..what made me consider moving was the hideous battery life (iphone battery is epic bad-like..bards would sing of its loussiness).
and couple more every day stuff that really halt your schedule( try attaching two different file types-say 1 xls+1pdf on same mail in ios)
i guess i was hoping that it would be better with note 4, but from what you guys say it lacks stability on a very profound level..

I have a Note2 , Note3, and ... Note4 ( ........cannot say anything much, about Note5 ..!!)
All my devices battery ( removable ) life is good/acceptable , no overheating , smooth running and customized to my liking !!!!!! This is what i want and enjoying it .!!
I do not own a Iphone and thus cannot say much about it .!!

Everytime i just put it down and say no i am happy with my Note4 .
All i can say is , in the end it is "what you want from your device...its you choice ."
So is it an an option ..... to have/own both ?
i want freedom of choice, ( customize etc ) and cannot see myself been tied down .
My message is only ,there nothing "wrong " with Note4
Hardware ,specs , removable battery and to do real multitasking on a device ? ...etc
Also i am on Android v 5.1.1 and device working very, very smooth .No issues .
However i have noticed some forum members have /had certain issues
good luck with your choice .
post entry
my observation of reading post and " my opinion" ,
regarding battery drainage in Note 4 is that a some members have either
3rd party apps or wrong settings or some" mod/theme " on phone responsible for this ( yes, i know not always ) eg facebook, whatsapp , gps location enable ,data always on ,etc... in some setting etc ( battery drainers ) or just badly coded apps or games .sucking away on battery.I had Note4 since October 2014 and had odd battery drain and always ( when investigating ) found 3rd party app or mod eg Xposed framework or module etc responsible for this .
Bottom line ,
is you only read mostly in threads, when members have a "problem " and hardly read post of members that is happy with performance/etc of device ?
good..this is what i want to hear..opinions based on real owner experiences!
just one more question!
is it true that since knox , i cannot root the device without it being permanently recorded? i mean, i remember being to erase such things on gs2 with stuff like triangle away app.. i dont care for flashing roms, rather than using my paid titanium app, adaway, root explorer and be able to freeze bloatware.

hi,
yes, thats overall true eg. if you use dev @ chainfire CF auto root it will trip Knox.(this CF auto root method, is what i used overall. except in Android v5.1.1 it does not work so i used another method ) However you do get certain root
methods that won't trip Knox.
Don't ask me what method as i really was never interested in rooting this way.
My personal opinion of Knox is.. i see it as a "bogey man" it does not worry me as i got no interest in Knox features. .. or the attitude... "o what is Samsung warranty going to say.?"
That said...
I do however respect other members view on Knox.!
I wanted to enjoy my user experience and rooted my device way back in October 2014... never looked back.
My viewpoint is,
If something "happens" well then it "happens" an i will deal with it accordingly or get another device.
I just wanted you to get my viewpoint over, that overall Note4 is a very, very capable device..good at multi tasking, good battery use (overall) no overheating issues and very smooth and fast (just tweak right)
Good luck with your choice
to be honest as long as it works and battery performs , i am happy camper..i am familiar with androids plus and minuses..
I wouldn't get it now. On its stock rom the dpi is way too high, everything is so big on the screen and there is no added real estate from a phone such as the S6. As for performance I've never been happy (N910F) until 5.1, but on 5.1 I can't use per app dpi. Do not throw your money at Samsung, opt for a Moto (or even the new Sony Z5 series), they're much more consistent performers. You could even wait for the new Nexus 5 or 6 coming out next month which will have biometric sensors. The one on the Note 4 sucks haha.
If you want to use the Samsung apps then stay with Touchwiz and root it, I would currently recommend using this ROM
I know you said that you are not into flashing ROMs but I would recommend that you give CM a chance or if you want extra personalization then try other custom roms.

i'd have no problem with flashing but custom roms never really get the camera app right or work well with ril files etc..
CM is very far from my taste although it has a sink ful of features.
i am almost set with giving up the iphone 6 for note 4.
just gonna wait till ios 9 gets previewed on wensday.
cant wait for a note 4 like battery, coming from i6.

I was not really happy with my Note 4 N910C until 5.1.1 came around.
More happy when I installed a stock pre-rooted ROM from Wanam and ultimate kernel then installed Note 5 theme and multi dpi for app.
My phone is very fast now, great battery too!

that i could do!!
without the changed kernel..no matter how good, once tinkered there always is a bug hiding..would the stock pre-rooted triger the knox counter?

[Q] New Samsung Note 4 owner, things I should know?

HI all.
I'm a new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 owner! Recently upgraded from a Note 3. Phones are years old but are decently priced and still good phones when you're not looking for something too fancy.
Honestly, the Note 3 was the best phone I've ever had and was looking forward to a Note 4 upgrade (was looking forward to the fingerprint scanner, even if not the best, and to the metal edges)
Now, I'd just like to ask for a few pointers on this device. Any custom ROM suggestions? Anything I should know about?
I am doing my fair share of research, I've been reading a lot of posts regarding this device, posts that are months old, posts that are years old and I've gotten myself a general idea of what to expect.
But I think even with all this reading, I probably won't be able to compare what I learn from these posts to someone that has owned a Note 4 for months, possibly years! Which is why I'm posting this thread, to ask those who have had this device for a longer time and will probably continue to use it for a longer time since this phone is amazing!
I just want to ask you Note 4 owners, if you bought a brand new Note 4, what set-up will you prefer? Custom ROM? Stock ROM? Any kernels you would flash?
I know the best ROM will always be stock ROM, but is there any worth-while N7 ports for the Note 4? I'm a big fan of the off-screen memo, the smart screen capture (scroll and screen-recording that records gifs) and also enjoy tweaking the kernel (overclock) for smoother game performance. I've also read that the most common problem with ports is the fingerprint scanner. I'll probably end up doing the work-around since no custom ROM has gotten this fixed (from what I read it's almost impossible without leaving a lot of the stock ROM's assets which defeat the point of a custom ROM).
Currently, I am downloading stock EQI2 6.0.1 which is the latest firmware for the N910T variant. I know that the T-Mobile variant has it's own forum but I usually see that the "Samsung Galaxy Note 4" thread is the most active and sometimes includes things for the T-Mobile variant (was the same case with the Note 3, the T-Mobile forum was dead and the international forum was alive and well)
It's running 5.0.1 software right now, hopefully 6.0.1 is better.
Thank you for your time!
I kindly invite you to try the unified trlte build linked in the [ROM] [UNOFFICIAL] [7.1.2] LineageOS 14.1 [SM-N910F/G/P/R4/T/T3/V/W8] thread.

Thanks for your input, I am currently trying out a Note 7 ROM port, but if it doesn't work out I will try it out
Personally, I prefer to run the stock OS that comes pre-installed on my device and update the OS to the latest version provided by the manufacturer. As I know for a fact that Custom 3rd Party OSs do not have the best post imaging software. Which hinders the performance of the camera sensor on your device.

Been snooping around and messing with a couple of custom ROM's either with Note 7/8 features and S7 Edge/S8.
I really like the look overall to the stock Note 4 UI, but I seem to have a very bad luck with random reboots and some features missing (fingerprint) or not working (night clock).
I was really afraid my phone was doomed with the eMMC failure I keep reading about that plagued the Note 4, but I don't have any problems running stock.
Yup, I guess my motto came true. "The best ROM is always STOCK ROM", even if it looks a bit out-dated.
I'm currently running stock and a custom kernel I found for stock MM. I'm pleased with the results so far, just kind of wish I could boot straight in to camera with double HOME press
Best advice I can give you , owning the phone for 2,5 years, is to never use quick charge and never update the phone or flash custom roms while the phone is being charged.

That's interesting, the first time I've ever read not to use quick charge. What particular reason do you have to suggest this?

I am amazed you are not aware of the motherboard brick problem of the note 4 !
Do a quick search and read about the motherboard Emmc problem on a lot of Note 4s.
Cheers!

I did read about it, I just wasn't sure what was the root cause for it. So I guess fast charge is the culprit? Every place I read this people seemed to blame an update either from KK to LL, or from LL to MM. Wow... I gotta think about this one. One of the reasons I love this phone over my Note 3 is because of the quick charge. Man :/
Gotta think about trading that feature in for... you know... a FUNCTIONAL PHONE

IMO the culprit was a heavy update(eg. from lollipop to Marshmallow) being installed , while the phone was pluged in being quickcharged.
This pushed the temperatures to exceed the max threshold of a bad emmc solder on the motherboard on some specific batches of the note 4.

So you think regular quick charge should be fine? The phone doesn't heat up with regular quick charge, so I really hope it's safe. I know that just to be safe, I shouldn't use quick charge. But I guess I'll roll the dice.
I updated from LL to MM via Odin, so it wasn't quick charging :victory:

In my case , my phone gets really warm while being quickcharged even if I am not using it at all.
I live in a warm place though!
If you want to use quickcharge , I suggest you go ahead and use it but without using the phone during the charge.

Yeah, I'll take my precautions. Thank you for your input
I have an exynos version so can't tell you much about the snapdragon versions (also never heard of emmc problems on exynos devices, the only problem I have is IR blaster stopped working some update ago and never worked again since), but here's little general advice :
Stock ROM is perfectly reliable and very smooth with little customization :
I recommend a package disabler app like EZ disabler to get rid of bloat. I disable anything that doesn't have a clear use for me . If something breaks functionality I enable it back.
If you don't want to root you can use adhel to block ads in very efficient way .
If you do want to root I recommend magisk . It's the best way to do it because if anything goes wrong you can just uninstall it and everything is fine again , it doesn't affect system partition.
Also system less xposed works great if you use the proper version . I love youtube background mod.
In my experience you should never use apps that claim to save battery like amplify/greenify etc . (In some cases they drain the battery even faster with their continuous background services) The better way to save power is to not install power hungry apps in the first place or disable them with EZ disabler . Also disable animations and just disable functions when you don't use them : Sync/Location /Bluetooth etc .
Last but not least : download and use Samsung game booster : it's amazing for our old gpus : you can lower resolution/frame rates to make games more playable and battery last longer .
These were my quick tips . Hope you enjoy your new phone !

The only small problem I have with stock is that it looks outdated. I know visuals are the least you should look for in a ROM, should be more worried about stability and battery life, but I simply can't deny that visually, stock TW UI bothers me.
But I guess I'll have to get used to it anyway since all the ROMs I've tried have issues here and there, but most importantly I get random shut downs and reboots with most custom ROMs and I lose the fingerprint scanner.
As for games, I heavily play a game called Shadowgun Deadzone. It's not that graphics heavy, but I need it to run smooth. I haven't tried Samsung's game booster, I've only messed around with custom kernels and changing the CPU governor, overclocking, etc... and it runs fine for a little while, but starts chugging after a few minutes in.
If the game booster can fix this, heck I can stick with stock ROM without any problems.
When you say it looks outdated
Are you talking about the launcher?
If so why not try the many other launchers out there? Like nova launcher..

A launcher can only do so much. I'm referring to mostly on things like the notification drawer, the settings and stuff like that.
