What I discovered today (first day with S4) is that if you freeze Knox, the open lock and "custom" caption - which appear after rooting - on the boot screen disappear. I have no idea what Knox is for.... I can't believe how much bloat there is on this phone!

More than likely, the custom lock on your screen is appearing or disappearing randomly and has nothing to do with KNOX. It probably just changed because you did 'something" to your phone. SysScope is the process that determines the result of the scan to be custom or official. Your phone might stay the way it is now, or it might revert back at some point to custom. Search for sysscope if you want to learn more about it.

Thanks. I was just reading about knox. Loads of info out there OP, in case you're interested. It seemed like a pretty consistent response. - freeze the two knox apps and the lock disappears, unfreeze and the lock reappears. I'll have a look at SysScope....

Interesting ...I'll have to check it out..I miss my s2..seems so complicated now with rooting lol..locked bootloader,knox..so much steps

Any idea what this is and what I need to do to get rid of it permanently? It pops up every half hour or so.
Thanks!
Download airpush detector. See if you have any apps that try to phish or access private information. Keyloggers, contact info collector, etc. Also review your previous downloads from the time you started seeing the notification. Could be linked to that, read the reviews of recently installed apps. Also run an antivirus that can pick out apps that make cause a conflict

Airpush reported that nothing was found but so far the warning message hasn't re-appeared so fingers crossed it's worked.

The message came back after a while, I held my finger on it until it popped up with which app was causing it and it came up with 'SeAndroid'.
I then froze it with Titanium and so far haven't noticed anything adverse.

Yeah this comes from SeAndroid, which will bug you as soon as it sees you're rooted. I suppose you rooted your stock rom with something like CF-AutoRoot ? Because all the custom roms remove this app. You can safely uninstall the app to get rid of the warning once and for all.

Yep CF-Autoroot.
And thanks, I'll delete it completely now.
the solution that really works
Install "Root Uninstall" from the market.
Run it
Grant it root permission
Click on "User App" at the top
Choose "System App"
Search for "SEAndroid"
Click on it
Click uninstall at the bottom
Accept and enjoy
If you had this message after install a custom kernel on your rom possible that kernel was not build for the rom
or there are an trick for freeze the process with titanium backup
just check the threads for Knox removal. it is quite easy to do. It will solve your problem and still keep root.

How I Learned to Love Using my Note 10.1 2014 (High Level Step by Step)

Thank you XDA! You are my heroes! None of this would be possible without all of you! And some awesome app developers.
1.) root
2.) titanium backup pro
- freeze knox apps
- freeze S finder
3.) Button Savior Pro (for setting up your right thumb controls)
- set virtual buttons to appear from bottom right swipe up
- set buttons to back, menu, home (task switch too if you want and extra buttons to shift important buttons to the left more)
- buy the HD skin so it looks pretty
4.) Switchr with Pro upgrade (for setting up your left thumb controls)
- use bottom edge to activate Switchr (latest version is awesome for thumb navigation on tablets)
5.) Wanam Xposed (follow link to Xposed Framework install)
- remap home long press to Google Now
WARNING! I got in some boot loops messing with Wanam. I did a power off by holding down the power button and turning it back on and that fixed it. I think. I AM NOT AN XPOSED EXPERT! Wanam is not for the faint of heart. There is an undo thing you can flash but still. It's scary. But it will also let you pick what apps are available for multi-window mode which I haven't tried editing yet.
But with all this my device a lot less laggy (at least to me it is), it's perfect for two handed thumb navigation, I have virtual buttons I can always access in either portrait or landscape, I have a quick way to access Google Now and long pressing the capacitive buttons in portrait doesn't do anything that kicks me out of the app.
I absolutely love this tablet now. I'm sure this isn't how everyone wants to use their Note but I thought I would share in case somebody has similar goals. If anybody wants to know a specific setting I used for the setup of the apps, I will try my best to answer.

Unrecognizable apps and status messages

I recently got a Tmobile Note 3 that I unlocked via unlock code and since first boot, I've noticed few things that I don't understand or seen on any other phone.
1) There are a number of apps that are there that I don't believe come with stock phone and I would like to know if its OK to remove/disable them. Also would like to know what they do?
VoLTE Configuration Menu
SSConfig
[/LIST
2) Secondly, everytime I boot or restart the phone, phone shows all the different commands that it is running. I'm sure there is setting somewhere to disable that but I don't see it in Dev Tools.
Thanks

VoLTE = http://www.radio-electronics.com/in...-long-term-evolution/voice-over-lte-volte.php
SS config I have no clue, assume it's to do with building configs/development etc
The different commands that the phone is running at boot up must be due to the unlock (bootloader?) - a reflash of stock firmware may fix this

It's difficult to take the picture of the commands that are running as they only show up for a brief second or so but I will give it a try later today.
Apart from above mentioned apps, there is another app called "Samsung Keystring". Is it OK to delete/disable these apps?

I think the keystring is for service modes, like connecting to networks etc, can't really see to much about it though. I wouldn't delete it just incase

Security Policy Updates?

I just got my S5 last week and I keep getting notifications that the security policy needs updated or was updated; is there a way to disable this? If I don't, could I possible lose a chance to root? I don't want any exploits to be patched OTA

Ah. Well, I accidentally took the updates, don't notice much difference, but I am told that it could be detrimental to Rooting if you do take the VZW OTA update.

dont update the security when it pops up.. you probably wont notice a difference but might effect rooting.. then again i read a few ppl were able to set it back to its original settings by factory resetting it

I'm getting this same thing on my Developer Edition. A notification asking if I would like to automatically allow security updates. I've cleared it each time.
Does anyone know what's being updated?
You would think "Decline" means don't prompt me ever again..
II have a rooted dev S5 and took the security policy update. no changes in root status. My google 2 factor authentication broke around the same time and was a but stubborn to re-establish, but that might be completely unrelated.
I've been getting it everyday since I got the phone. I've never updated, scared to!
Now with root how do we kill it?

Everyone with repeating updates try this...
Settings, Security, scroll down to Security policy updates in menu and click, once inside that option, untick Automatic updates

Mine is unticked, but I get the accept decline message randomly. Did you click accept at some point then uncheck it? I've already frozen SDM
if you have Titanium Backup Pro, just freeze "Security policy updates SPD_v2_1402_4_1"

Is there a way to enable guest mode without a build prop edit? I had two users on my 6p for 2 clash of clans accounts and can't do it on my edge. Thanks

Don't have a knox eligible device infront of me so the steps might not be perfectly accurate but:
Settings
Security
Knox
Click the link for play store knox app
Enable in settings/security
Go through the setup.
Basically it sets up a second partition on the phone that acts as it's own phone.

I can vouch that the Knox method works, at least on my T-Mobile s7 edge. And it's actually better than guest mode; you don't need to log out and log into another account; Knox created a second instance of coc as two distinct apps. Pretty nice for switching b/w coc villages. Especially for donating troops!
