I have note 3 N9005 not rooted
1- Since i have the phone when i check the battery usage it teels me that i am turning on the wifi all the time while actually it is off
i thought this problem will be vanished after updating to Mj7 but it is still exists.
2- also after upgrading to MJ7 firmware the battery usage of the internet surfing only website increased significantly. as 6% of the battery drained during only 30 min of internet.
Well that's an issue

Settings, Wi-Fi, advanced. What does the Wi-Fi optimization tick box do?
I'm periodically losing my connection to Google services while my phone is idling on Wi-Fi. Would this help? Would it drastically increase battery consumption?

afaik this option reduces the speed of wifi when the screen is off.

OK so it shouldn't actually shut it off completely though, right?

Hmm, interesting. I think I'm seeing the same thing with GrooVe IP periodically disconnecting from Google Voice. I had an extended email thread with a support person for GrooVe IP, and one of the things he suggested was to turn off Wi-Fi optimization. As far as I can tell, neither "on" nor "off" had any effect on how frequently the connection to Google Voice dropped.
I'd be very interested if anyone has another suggestion.

Did you notice any change in battery life with it checked vs unchecked.

If there was any change, it was too small to notice in the limited testing I did.
I've noticed that I'm getting disconnected pretty frequently from gtalk when the screen is off. I just turned off Wi-Fi optimization to see if it makes a difference. I have my wifi always on during sleep so I can't think of anything else that would affect this.

I'm experiencing the same problem too but it doesn't have to do with the Wi-Fi optimization setting. Apparently it has something to do with the 4.2 update and our routers. Many others are having the problem too as there's a issue title for it already

That doesn't sound like the issue I'm experiencing. For example, the description there says, "Have to toggle wifi on/off to get it to connect again." Whatever is happening to cause GrooVe IP to lose the connection with Google Voice, it repairs itself automatically; GrooVe IP always reconnects within 30 seconds after a disconnect without any manual intervention on my part (not even opening the app: I'm just watching the status icon in the notification bar).

The problem with GrooVe IP/Google Voice does not occur only when the screen is off; I have watched GrooVe IP disconnect and reconnect with no provocation while I was reading an RSS feed, for example.
GrooVe IP call disruption
I have been noticing GrooVe IP calls getting disrupted all of a sudden while I am on a call on Nexus 4 (4.2 update) as well. There would be no sound for may be 15 seconds or so and then may be the call would get back to normal. Also, in GrooVe IP my bluetooth headset(Voyager 975) voice has been quite "crackly". That is, my voice via the bluetooth headset mic.
uncheck it!

I must thank OP for bringing this to my attention. This past week my N4 have had hard time connecting wifi when I am on different floor from the router. Yesterday i read this thread and then unchecked wifi optimization. Since then, my N4 can always stay online :good:
Thanks!!!
That said, two things I can confirm with my own experience:
1, uncheck it increase wifi reception
2, battery drains slightly faster, but not much. check it only when you are very close to the router.
Similar issue but only on N4
I am having perhaps a related problem with my N4. I do get intermittent disconnect from Wi-Fi, too, but the bigger problem that I am having is that the link speed between the N4 and the router is at 1 Mbps. The status icon shows full bars with "Excellent" signal, but the actual speed is at 1 Mbps (perhaps below).
What's perplexing is that my N7 doesn't have this problem. Same exact OS (4.2.1). I see 65 Mbps, 72 Mbps, etc., on N7 while the N4 next to it shows 1 Mbps. This essentially makes it impossible to do anything in Wi-Fi including VOIP calls.
Are there routers that are known to work well with N4? My router is old and I wouldn't mind changing it if there is one.
Same issue here stock unrooted. Speeds slow to a crawl. I found to get 1mbps I can put the phone in airplane mode and shut off GPS the rest of the devices in the house on the same router get 15-20mbps

I would hope most people would have tried that long before coming to the forum to complain about the issue.
The issue is WiFI closing & not auto signing back in whether mobile data is on or not.
It's simple option is in settings wifi
Yes the switch is simple but has nothing to do with the "closing WiFi" issue some are experiencing.
BUT I DO NOT KNOW Enabling this option AS MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE FOLLOWING HAVE SOLVED MY GUIDE

unchecking this doesnt do nothing....im sitting across from my router and its telling me my signal is weak.
Browsing on vzw 4g lte is faster than my 50mb comcast wifi connection? lol if i browse with wifi its a slow lag.
Same for me. Moreover, with the new firmware, if it loose the connection while the option is unticked, it says that it will be re-ticked automatically...
This WiFi bug is really annoying.
My phone has stopped dropping the connection & is behaving well. But I have no idea what solved it. I factory reset router & phone. But it made little difference but after a day it's behaving perfectly & it's currently on my wifi & has not dropped for 12 hrs & no more constant pop up messages.
I have no idea what cured it. But one thing I did last night was went to play store & updated every app on the phone.... maybe there was a conflict in one of those apps.. that's all I can think. I left "adblock" off this time as that routes wifi data but I'd removed that several days ago.

I'm curious what Access Point you are using and how old it is? Are there firmware updates for it that you have not applied?
I've read somewhere that cancel all existing WiFi connections and make them as new (with the new firmware), could be of help. I'll give it a try.

Wifi problem
I've tried all the solutions on here, and nothing works. Very poor samsung for such an expensive device. If a £30 roku box can have perfect wifi why can't a £600 device
I must admit that wifi performance is quite poor for the moment.
I get 6 or 7 Mb/s out of a 25 Mb connection. My S4 , Note 1, and Ipad 3 al do around 20Mb/s while testing simultaneously

You can probably find what it does on the Internet (Google), but it doesn't truly help. My guess is that these performance issues are router dependant. I'm waiting to get my hands on the new Asus RT-AC68U router to upgrade my yesteryear 300 mb/s router. In fact I just ordered it, it will arrive tomorrow. Will post here to let people know if it helped...

Well I was right, my shaky Wifi connection using my Sitecom WL-351 router is a thing of the past. Both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz connections through my brand new Asus RT68AC router work excellently!!
What this very probably means is that the Note 3 uses a Wifi chipset that doesn't work all that well with certain other (older model?) router chipsets. The Asus I bought to test this is quite expensive, but I am sure a regular router can work well given it is compatible. What needs to be done is verify (through a Poll or by researching known chipset incompatibility problems) what chipsets and/or routers / brands work well. Unless you expect Samsung to fix this in software, which often is impossible - unless Samsung can force an update of the chipset firmware.

Unfortunately Brand names don't mean compatibility since various models use varying router chipsets.
I have had my note 3 for a day now and for some reason it disconnects and reconnects to Wi-Fi randomly. I am about 10 feet from my router. Does anyone else have this problem?
Yep. No idea why. Using high output D-Link DAP-2310 10 feet away.

Haven't had any issue. How is your WIFI Advanced menu look like? Here's how mine is configured.
Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep: Always
Always allow scanning: Unchecked
Auto network switch: Unchecked

That's exactly how mine is. It has had to disconnect at least 4 times since I made this post. I hope there's a fix for this. Its pretty irritating.
I went into the advanced settings of WiFi and choose "never" to keep WiFi on during sleep and it stays in WiFi when my phone is sleeping. It doesn't go to 4G and connect back to WiFi when I unlock my phone like it did on my note 3 and s4.
Anyone else noticing this?

On my Galaxy Tab A a game called June's Journey won't start, says there is no internet connection and to check wifi settings. The tablet is connected to wifi and a browser speed test shows big mbps. I went to the app settings and the only related settings I see are Allow background data usage and Allow app while data saver is on, both are enabled.
What could be causing this one app not to have access to internet on this tablet?
Thanks
