Keep WiFi on during sleep (never) issues - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I went into the advanced settings of WiFi and choose "never" to keep WiFi on during sleep and it stays in WiFi when my phone is sleeping. It doesn't go to 4G and connect back to WiFi when I unlock my phone like it did on my note 3 and s4.
Anyone else noticing this?

[Q] Wi-Fi drops after being in deep sleep

Hi all,
My brand new Nexus 4 doesn't seem to hold a wi-fi connection with my Netgear WNDR3700v2. I've set up a 2.4 Ghz network connection on channel 1 with an AES security. Added the Nexus 4 with a static ip. It will hold the connection for maybe an 20-30 minutes, but if I don't use the phone for a while (like an hour), the wi-fi connection will drop as soon as I press the power-button. The wi-fi icon just disappears and connects after a few seconds, or it turns from blue to grey, disappears and reconnects.
It's really irritating. My Gnex (Android 4.2) en my girlfriends Gnex (CM 10) both have a stable wi-fi connection with the router, all the time. They have the same settings and my Nexus 4 has, just as my old Gnex, activated the wi-fi optimization setting and disabled avoid poor connections. All phones have keep wi-fi on during sleep at always.
I was wondering if someone has similar problems and maybe have an idea what could be the problem here. Thanks!
is sounds like the same issue on the nexus 7

Check your wifi sleep policy in settings. If its set to "never" it will drop when phone is in deep sleep. Try setting it to "always" and see if that helps.

Thanks, but my posts says "All phones have keep wi-fi on during sleep at always."
I rolled back my router firmware to V1.0.0.12 and everything seems to be ok now. Going to run a few more tests.

Wifi Sleep Policy Problems

Has anyone noticed the wifi sleep policy has no effect on the Nexus 4.
I've set mine to keep wifi on during sleep only when plugged in. However wifi remains on all the time. My wife also has a Nexus 4 and exactly the same thing happens. However my Nexus 7 and Galaxy S3 both disable wifi when sleeping.
I've had this problem on lots of different phones,. in the end i used Juice Defender which sorted it out. My Nexus 4 at the moment is behaving itself. On my Motorola Xoom (AOSP) i did a factory reset which fixed it.

Doesn't work on any android phone I've had. Sad truth

I'm pretty sure it worked on the Galaxy Nexus.
Let's put whether its working or not to the side for a bit.
Why would you want to turn off WiFi during sleep in the first place?
I understand why on a WiFi only tablet. Phone, not so much
Only way it works is when you disable the Location settings - all of them + turn off Google Now.
My Nexus consumes too much battery over night with all its WiFi goings on.
WiFi uses less battery then cellular. If you turn off WiFi it it uses the cellular data connection which uses more battery.
If you turn off WiFi and leave your cellular data on it is counter productive to saving battery.

Can you turn off your cellular data and keep wifi on?

Whenever your device has a wifi connection it uses the cellular connection only for phone calls, nothing else. that's what albundy meant.

You can turn on airplane mode, then turn on wifi. That will disable your ability to make calls over the cell network though (I used to do that when I was at home and use Groove IP). Not sure if that is what you are looking for.

[Q] to anyone with 3g nexus 7

i got my 3g nexus 7 a week ago and its been fantastic. thee is, however, a minor annoyance that im curious if anyone else has experienced
i usually cut the mobile data off when using it on wifi, and ive noticed after long periods of inactivity, the mobile data will turn itself back on.
is this a known issue? im running completely stock at this point.
Just put it on airplane mode than turn on WiFi.... That way you're sure that mobile connectivity is disabled.

I do the same thing. You'll see the WiFi icon and the airplane icon both on the status bar. Without airplane mode, the cellular modem will still be on and connected to the cellular network all the time. If you have WiFi available, you're wasting battery power on the unused cellular connection. Also if the WiFi turns off to conserve power, it may start using the cellular data. That is not good if you have a limited data plan.
I've posted a question before asking if anyone knew how to create a widget to toggle the cellular radio on and off and received no response.
I generally do use airplane mode when on WiFi, but it was one of those little quirks I noticed and was wondering if it was happening to anyone else
As for a toggle widget for the 3g, I use power toggles. It seems to work, but I've wondered I'd that is actually the culprit. I could get rid of it and see, but it's such a minor issue ATM

Disconnecting from Wi-Fi randomly.

I have had my note 3 for a day now and for some reason it disconnects and reconnects to Wi-Fi randomly. I am about 10 feet from my router. Does anyone else have this problem?
Yep. No idea why. Using high output D-Link DAP-2310 10 feet away.

Haven't had any issue. How is your WIFI Advanced menu look like? Here's how mine is configured.
Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep: Always
Always allow scanning: Unchecked
Auto network switch: Unchecked

That's exactly how mine is. It has had to disconnect at least 4 times since I made this post. I hope there's a fix for this. Its pretty irritating.

'Keep wifi on during sleep' switched on or off?

I keep noticing that when I bring my phone out of sleep mode that it takes a while for wifi to re-connect. Sometimes it doesn't even show a network signal either.
If I leave 'keep wifi on during sleep' switched on will this run my battery down quicker?

Being connected to WiFi uses less battery than being connected to a 3G network I think (depending on your signal)
It shouldn't make much difference if you make sure to turn off your WiFi when your not connected to a WiFi network.
