Hello guys,
I'm new to android, I'm doing an simple app as an requirement for college project.
The app uses tab navigation as demonstrated in " androidhive tab swipe"
Its required that each tab to be an drop down menu as I have multiple pages within a tab.
Please assist me on how can I get the tab into a drop down menu and content into the pages inside the tab.
If you can provide me on how this can be achieved - it will be very useful.
Alexis

Do you want the tab to be a drop down menu (aka Spinner) or should the screen then show a drop down menu?
Hi, thanks for the reply. The screen should just show a drop down menu from which I want to select and navigate to different pages. Means each tab should show a drop down menu. Please assist.

Are you sure that this is the right tactic? Two selection items are often too complicated. If you've got some time, watch this video on app structure: http://youtu.be/XpqyiBR0lJ4
If you still want to do it like you described, you can try this: Add a Spinner to the layout and below that add a ViewPager which you add different Fragments to, depending on both selections. If you don't need swiping to get to the next screen, you can simply add the Fragments below the Spinner.
Hi, thank you for the reply. I will try the solution you pointed, and update here.

It's in the Market settings.
In the market, touch My Apps, then the icon in the top right corner that looks like 4 lines. then uncheck "Add shortcuts for new apps".

Given your forum name and your post I had a lol. I remember I got a bunch of O'Reilly books for $3 or so and by the time I switched back to the desktop it was covered in icons of animals.
Hi, I have the international 6800 here in the USA.
When i zoom in on cities in the US,
I get no hotels. i get schools, restaurants, libraries, etc.....
but no hotels....
Can someone help please?
thanks
Select local from the menu and then select hotels.

hotels don't show up... only capes, bars, attractions, and restaurants under the 'local' menu..
thanks for your reply
Hit Search button, select "hotel". That will create layer you can turn on/off as needed.
when i hit the 'search' button.... all i get to do is to type in hotels... and it shows all he hotels in the map that showing.
doesnt create a layer tab or button. but
that is a work around..
thanks...
i wish i could get a hotels tab or button to show up....
ps.. the search button is only a dialogue box
You can type "Hilton" or "Motel 6" to get more specific results. This is not specific to 7.7. Screenshot is from GNex.
My Wi-Fi didn't work in a hotel properly

You can do the same thing with Widgetsoid, and probably anything that lets you make a shortcut.
I'm not sure why but one of the hidden menus is com.android.hiddenmenu.SprintMenu
When I open it, it is blank and the header is 1x Engineering. Ah, looks like it's just part of the data menu from the main section.

You can toggle LTE off with an app calle Phone Info. Under Device Information you select preferred network type. Not a toggle but it works.

Thanks. But I'm interested in utilizing the functionality available in AnyCut as there are so many additional customization options.
How do you get to this menu

I also would be interested in doing this via AnyCut
Because Phone Info seems to switch it to VZ LTE instead of EPHRD when switching back to 4G. I'd assume Any Cut since it works within the system would be "nicer" and not cause this.
Maybe it is a stupid question, but suddenly I lost the software buttons on the bottom of the home. Is there a way to restore them?
Thanks

what launcher are you using? ...
you need to use your launcher menu> First you may need to long press the phone , contacts and message apps to bring them to the desktop, than use edit to place them in the Dock ( will depend on launcher and settings will vary according to their menu)
If too confusing just download a different launcher from play store and use it
This is stock Touchwiz, right? Looks like it, so I'll assume so...
Go into Applications.
You should see the icons for Phone/Contacts/Applications along with your other apps.
Press the menu button, and click edit. Now you should be able to move the icons around.
Drag the phone/contacts/messages icon down to the dock. It should drop there, and then you'll have your shortcuts back.

It worked. Thank you. It was realy a stupid condition I was in.
Thanks again.
By the way, what is "stock Touchwiz"?
Touchwiz is the stock (or default launcher) that comes with the phone

Hey guys,
Hoping someone can help me out, not sure why this doesn't work for me...
I want to create 1 of my home pages similar to my previous phone, which is a full page of individual internet bookmarks (the same size as app icons). How I have gone about it (and how I have always done this), is open the basic internet browser (not chrome), go to a webpage, and then save them in my generic "bookmarks" folder.
After I have done that several times, I go to the homepage where I want the bookmarks, navigate to widgets, then drag and drop "bookmark 1x1" onto the homepage....A new screen opens titled "choose a bookmark". On this page I can see a folder "mobile bookmarks", so as there are no other options, i navigate to that folder....again nothing in there except the folder "samsung mobile", so i nav to that folder....nothing inside. There are no other folders or locations I can navigate to. WTF?!
I thought I may have saved them to a separate folder, but even when i go into the bookmark and select "edit" i can't change it to any other default folder (also tried creating a new folder and putting them in there, didn't help)
I tried going into CHROME and setting bookmarks (then saving them) and selecting them as a homepage widget, but again, i can't find anything. Along with the HUGE disappointment of no FM radio chip, I am finding the more basic options more difficult on this phone which doesn't say much for Samsung in newer generation phones. I also don't think I am a complete dumba$$, which is exactly how I feel when i ask a very basic question like this. WHY wont this work?
Thanks anyone who can help.

Phone is unbranded i9505 (4G) AU stock.
I'm using also the stock browser and if you press the menue softkey you can choose 'create shortcut'. This will create a shortcut on the homescreen It is pretty simple and works good for me. Hope this helps you.

Bookmark 1*1 point to chrome, and sbookmark point to the old android browser. Both work correct for me, and as other said, just create a shortcut (this function since android 2.x)
And for chrome just keep pressing the bookmark icon you want, then it will give you a menu to add it to home screen

Aha.
So bookarks are out the window these days, we just navigate to the webpage we want, then select "add shortcut" that seems to be the only way to get that link as a 1x1 icon on the home screen. Thanks mate, +1 for you

No.... When on a homescreen press Menu (or long-press the screen), press Add Shortcut, select Bookmark, choose the site you want.
A 1x1-sized bookmark icon shortcut will be added... :good:

Negatron. This has been answered, but I will respond to your post. On the i9505, long press homepage (or menu key), provides options:
- add apps/widgets - wont work this way
- create folder
- set wallpaper
- add/remove page (this is add or remove a homescreen page)
Long press screen options:
ADD TO HOME SCREEN:
- Apps and widgets
- Folder
- Page
None of these items/options work, so only works, for me, by going into the internet explorer app, hit menu key and then "add shortcut" instead of add bookmark...

Okay. Works, as it should, on my 9505 so no issues here :good: That is, using Apex Launcher as the option you look after is indeed not working (anymore) in Touchwiz...
Its working for me even on touchwiz..
