Trouble rooting nexus 4 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted my nexus 4 and I can get into bootloader and even clockword recovery, but whenever I try to reboot the device it just stays on the boot animation. Why? I had stock 4.4 by the way.

data / cache wipe may help.
if not just flash stock again and root again.
btw - what root method did u use?.i´ve seen lots of ppl getting their n4 on bootloops just by rooting, witch dosent make any sense(to the way that is meant to be rooted).
PS: 1st boot take lots of time, remember if u rooted u wiped your data.my 1st n4 boot after i root took 23 or 24 mins(23.something)

I prefer cwm touch which you can get from the site. Or you can flash the button version from rommanager
Twrp does work tho, but I've read issues with restoring backups.
Booting into recovery on the device in a way is messed up. The button combo method to enter using the bootloader hangs when not connected to a PC, so there are two options on getting into recovery.
A. Connect to a PC and use bootloader
B. With a working OS, reboot to recovery using an app such as rommanager or goomanager
If you ever flash a rom that won't boot, u need to connect to a PC and boot into recovery via bootloader (button combo).

I use TWRP and had successfully restored now a couple of times. Once was a complete device replacement where I restored the TWRP restore files from my workstation.
How I do my backups to ensure I can restore from a total loss.

Ah, I was curious if this bug still existed or not.
I'd go with CWM, quite stable, easy to use, and you can flash the touch recovery, speeds it up.

Thanks, I read somewhere that if you go into system/ and rename recovery-from-boot.p to recovery-from-boot.bak, fixes the bootloop...can anyone confirm this... thank in advance

Try it. Bootloader issue still exists regardless.

I'm a TWRP guy all the way. I have never had an issue restoring a backup, and the ability to compress my nandroid is invaluable.

TWRP has definitely converted me.

[Q] Nexus 4 won't boot after flash

Hey guys, I seem to have a problem with my Nexus 4
I installed Odyssey ROM (4.3) coming from Illusion (4.2.2) following the usual procedure of wiping etc...
It didn't boot, stuck on the Google logo....
Strange thing is that it stuck when I tried to reinstall Illusion and also when I restored the Backup I made before the install.
What couldve cause this problem and how can I solve it?
Thanks
I don't know the cause but try this:
1.Go to bootloader.
2.Use adb fastboot to flash to stock.
3.profit

Go into recovery:
- Wipe cache and dalvik cache and reboot or
- if that`s not enough do a data factory reset and reboot. That should do it.

OK guys.... Slight update... I get it to work but it seems to only boot ROMs after a factory reset..... Even now, Odyssey, PA etc no matter what ROMs I'm on if I reboot it hangs at the Google logo.... Forcing me into another factory reset.

Flash the factory image, so completly stock. Then you can go ahead and start running custom roms again!:highfive:

I'm having this same problem with a friend's Nexus 4, my Nexus 4 I can flash whatever and it boots up no problem. With his it doesn't matter what ROM I flash it will not boot up. I have done the full wipe and installed factory image from Google Dev website at least 5 times and then installed customer recovery and root several times. I'm using the latest CWM touch and it will not boot. Any ideas? Thanks.
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
Now boot to new recovery
adb sideload nameofrom.zip
adb sideload gapps.zip
Reboot
May is suggest the latest twrp recovery and latest slimkat and their all in one gapps for this as well
Also be sure you have the latest bootloader and modem
Best of luck

I did all of this except the adb sideloading, I just flashed the ROM and Gapps in CWM, I'll try it like this, thanks.

[Q] Nexus 4 (SOFT BRICKED)

Hi,
I recently bought a Nexus 4 and rooted the device using the WugFresh Toolkit 1.8.0
Everything went fine and ROOT was successful.
Then I installed a custom ROM named LIQUID SMOOTH which when started went into Bootloop mode.
Instead of wiping the Dalvik Cache and Cache, I formatted the phone in a hurry.
I had got a backup of the previous ROM in my Nexus but before I could transfer it to my PC, I wiped the phone completely.
Now I am able to get into only RECOVERY MODE.
Could I get some help for the issue I am facing now?
Thanks in Advance.
You need to flash a ROM. You can either flash the factory images though fastboot, or use adb sideload in a custom recovery to flash a ROM of your choosing.

Nexus 4
Well I tried the ADB Sideload Option first.
Did not work out.
Tried flashing a ROM, but for the flashing procedure according to WugFresh toolkit, I need to get into bootloader mode.
But I am not able to get into Bootloader mode.
Any idea what to try out next??
Turn off your phone, press volume down + power and hold. That should get you in the bootloader.

Phone reboots to recovery.

I have TWRP recovery, and stock rom.
Thing is, I sold to phone to a guy, he tried to install the update and now the phone reboots to recovery. I told him to restore the backup, he did so, but he says it still reboots to recovery everytime he tries. He doesn't boot to bootloader or recovery, but presses power off and then manually turn the phone on - still to recovery. I can't really help him because I can't see what's the problem.
What should we do?
If you have custom recovery you shouldn't take ota search for g2 ota twrp and you will find some helpful threads

Ok but my question is why when I restore it still boots to recovery? If I restored it then it should reboot regularly.

Nexus 7 (2012) WiFi Reflashing Issue

Hi guys!
I just want to get some idea of what could be the real problem of my Nexus 7. I can boot on its bootloader, i can access also it's recovery menu. The problem is my Nexus is in boot loop. It can't pass through the nexus boot animation (5.1.1) and I am trying to downgrade it to 4.4.4 or at least fix its' boot looping issue.
I tried reflashing a stock ROM via cmd and Nexus Toolkit, still it didn't resolve the problem. It looks like the whole partition was in READ ONLY that right after completing the flashing procedures and rebooted it all went back to the same problem. Bootloader is Unlocked
I would appreciate if someone can give me an idea on how to resolve this. TIA

Check if cache partition is there if not create in recovery

Cache is present also..
Thanks for the input..

My N7 has latest Pure Nexus, GApps and Parrot Mod. Try flashing it by first formatting system, data and caches. Recovery is TWRP 3.0.2 If it boots performance will be much better than stock

Will try that.. Thanks!
