Samsung keyboard FC - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yesterday I have received my new Note 3 and I really like it, up to now...
Came with MI7, I rooted this build via URDLV. Then I used Mobile Odin Pro (to retain the old bootloader and not trip 0x1) to flash to MJ8. After that, I was unable to use the WiFi, as it tried to turn itself on but couldn't. Figured out that I should flash the corresponding MJ8 modem, did that, but WiFi continued not to work UNTIL I did a factory reset and voila: it worked! But now I have another problem which is far worse, every few seconds I receive a message that "Unfortunately, Samsung keyboard has stopped"!!
Checking the version (*#1234#) I noticed that I am running both AP and CP as N9005XXUDMJ7 but I am missing CSC! It used to the Open Germany = DBTD. Coupled with the MJ7 that I downloaded (named N9005XXUDMJ7_N9005DBTDMJ4_N9005XXUDMJ7_HOME.tar.md5), there's suppose to be DBTDMJ4 together with it, but I don't see it after flashing. Am I missing something?

No, there must be another way.

Well it won't trigger knox for official rom

Are you sure? I have read at several places, that flashed via stock via ODIN trips it. Isn't that also the reason why everyone uses Mobile Odin to flash to MJ7? If I flash stock MJ7 via Odin, how do I regain root?
Do you have any idea, why I'm missing my CSC and how can I flash it back (without using stock ODIN approach)?

Thanks to Killberty everything is working great now! knox 0x0, latest MJ7 modem and built and root retained:

Does flashing a different region stock trigger knox flag?

I'll have the aussie model in couple of days and I want to flash a stock ROM from a different region onto it (to bypass some of the dumb lock downs the aussie one has...)
Questions:
Will this trigger the knox warranty e fuse flag?
And
Will i then need worry about regional locks?

I *think* its ok, provided the firmware you're loading isn't an older one than what you already have.
Even more sure if you don't have a knox firmware currently...

I've also got an Australian Note 3 and in the past with my previous phones (Note 2 and S4) I flashed the UK stock ROM to get around the restrictions imposed on the Australian ROM. Before I do it again, I want to see if someone has tried it without any negative impact.
I started a previous thread with this question:
"I have a Note 3 n9005 XXUBMI7 firmware with csc N9005XSABMI1 (Australia) - unlocked, no carrier.
Will the Omega ROM V1.0 work on my phone (ie will, it support English(Australia)?)"
I am interested (ultimately) in experimenting with custom roms - as I did in my previous Note 1. This process will require a root and TWRP/CWM and will almost certainly void warranty because Knox Security digit will be set from 0 to 1 - unless someone finds a workaround.
What I am not sure about is the region coding - it seems that Samsung has a firmware version for every region (Australia is XSA)

All I know is that after being boot looped, I was able to load the mexican firmware... but then after trying to flash SuperSU, which caused nothing but bugs, I tried to reinstall that same firmware and got another boot loop. I am now unable to install any available n900w8 firmware successfully. Some type of flag has been triggered on my phone that's preventing me from using a stock kernel/firmware... that's all I know.

I'm pretty sure that Samsung's strategy is to make their devices a Samsung managed (and standardised) product (ala Apple and Microsoft) by locking owners into their firmware and even going beyond with region control. The only options, I believe, are either to stick with them at their behest or void warranty and support for personal freedom of choice. My view is that if software does not physically damage a device then I should be entitled to warranty claim if there is a manufacturing fault.
I was really referring to stock ROMs rather than custom.
Custom ROMs will flip the Knox switch.

Do not try and flash stock firmware from another region. It will not trigger the knox flag but the flash will fail in Odin and then you'll have to flash back the correct stock firmware for your region in order to be able to boot the phone again. The only way around it is to install a custom recovery and flash modified firmware which definitely will trigger the Knox flag.

The mexican stock for sm-n900w8 went through fine as a Bell/Canadian user... but only the first time. I tried it because there are no Bell firmwares available. After trying to flash SuperSU, and having it crash constantly, causing me to re-flash the firmware.. it no longer worked.

If your Knox flag is already set you may as well try the custom recovery and ROM option since it sounds like your phone is buggered.

Got the same question, I want to switch from the swiss unlocked (AUT) stock rom to either the german (DBT) or UK (BTU) one. I even compared the files of the AUT and DBT tar.md5 and only cache.img.ext4 and hidden.img.ext4 are different, all others a binary identical.
Could I limit Odin to only exchange those two data files and nothing else?
In Android-Hilfe.de an User tried it..

I had to do a device wipe from recovery menu to reset the CSC from EVR to BTU.
Then I got the FOTA update to MJ1 so it seemed like my phone is now indistinguishable from a SIM-free device but...
Kies still knows something's up. It reports the CSC as BTU but says "Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies".
I wonder how Kies knows? Any ideas?

Nevermind. I've taken the plunge and trying it. I'll report back.

Ok.
I flashed the latest Unknown Country ROM (XSI) from SamMobile which was "N9005XXUBMJ1_N9005OJVBMI2_XSI". Originally, I was running a Vodafone Australia ROM (VAU).
I used ODIN 3.04 and reset the device in recovery after the ROM was updated.
The CSC is now XSI and the KNOX warranty trigger is 0x0 (Woohoo)!
With the new ROM, it also bypassed all the Australian restrictions. These were:
- Unable to change dock applications
- No auto rotate in gallery
- Unable to silence camera shutter
- Shortcuts not available as an option on lock screen
HD Voice is also still working.

[Q] N9005 Bootloop using Kn0x0ut

Hi guys
I wanted to try X-Note on my Note 3 which was Stock rooted MJ7.
So first I used kn0x0ut to do a backup of System, Data and EFS, then went ahead and installed X-Note, did the usual data/cache/dalvik wipes which the script does.
That didn't go too well, for some reason I got a boot loop, not like I have now, but where it wouldn't even get to the OOB wizard.
So I decided to just restore the backup I made, which also didn't appear to go very well because now I have a phone which is acting very strangely.
After the restore screwed up, I used ODIN to restore my original MJ1 ROM. Previously, I had gone from Stock MJ1 to Rooted MJ1 with RDLV, then updated to MJ7 via Mobile Odin Pro.
Basically what's happening now, is it will boot up to the OOB wizard, then I'll get a message that says "Process system has stopped responding", usually followed by "Samsung keyboard has closed".
Wifi doesn't work, it says I don't have any sim card installed and my baseband is "unknown". I've only got about 20 seconds to look around before it will reboot. Most apps that I try to open like the dialler just FC as soon as they open.
What I've done so far (which I REALLY wanted to avoid) is installed TWRP so I could at least flash something else, not via ODIN or Kn0x0ut (which I will NOT be using again!). I managed to restore the EFS using dd but it didn't appear to do anything. I've also tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507403 - that didn't help either.
I'm pretty stuck now, since I have a voided warranty and no usable phone....
Any help would be great, I really need to get this thing working again!

I guess mj7 upgrades the efs in some way that's incompatible with mj1?
I did try xnote mk2 and got the same issue, but that's obviously not stock, so I'll get mj7 and mk2 stock downloaded and give it a go.

Can I update from the official KitKat firmware through Odin or Kies and *not* lose an

Hi, I am a total noob in the area of updating my Note 3, so please guide me.
I want to update my Note 3 with the official firmware of Poland through Kies or Odin ( I know how to do that)
But one thing I'm afraid of and don't know is whether I will lose all my data (apps OR Phone data) if I update through Odin or not?
Just a note, I am trying to keep my Note 3 totally unrooted, untampered with in any other way. So will updating through Odin also increase my Knox number?
Thanks.
Best regards

You 100% need the new bootloader for it to work and even boot properly, and you will lose root. MOP won't work.
Anyone thinks android 4.4.2 can be falshed with mop, keeping 0x0 root and it will start withthe old bootloader?

[Q] Rooting on Vodafone UK

Hi,
Wondered if someone could please help, as I wish to root without tripping knox, as it's important I have secured work emails.
Just upgraded from Xperia Z, and got experience of rooting that in various ways, along with rooting other Android phones. However, been a while since I had a Samsung phone, but not had one with knox before.
Phone has come with the following firmware:
PDA: N9005XXUBMI7
Phone: N9005XXUBMI6
CSC: N9005VFGBMI1
I've done loads of reading on the subject, and appears that I can use Root de la Vega universal 0.5 without tripping knox with the above firmware.
Could someone please confirm what I believe that it's possible to root the above firmware without tripping root?
Assuming that it is possible, Vodafone have also issued the following firmware update, which I've downloaded to pc from SamMobile, but not yet installed:
N9005XXUDMJ6_N9005VFGDMJ1_VOD
Is there a way I can then flash this update, say with Odin, without tripping root?
Really appreciate any assistance thanks

It sounds like you want to stay with official Vodafone rom versions.
I didn't see any need to, so I flashed MJ7 BTU (UK) using MOP as the next step, which worked perfectly.
I flashed mk2 btu wheb that came out in the same way.
Fir kitkat, like most others, i flashed the Polish XEO NA6 official rom. Like I said kitkat flash is a little more tricky due to the extra bootloader flashing step. Personally, kitkat release isn't quite ready for prime time so samsung haven't rolled it out in more regions. There a few little quirks about it, e.g. genuine s view cover not working for all. I'd suggest waiting for the official BTU release before flashing by which time they may have ironed out the little bugs.
Good luck!

Actually I was unlocked within a few mins of making the call - unlock code got texted to me. And it was free - most likely because I was within my first 7 days of a new contract.
If it's not a new contract phone, then some others have reported chainfire's region lock away to work:

Root GT-N7100<4.4.2> without tripping KNOX

Hi XDA people,
Just found this workaround for rooting latest 4.4.2 stock firmware without tripping Knox.
This method downgrades the firmware(System & Kernel) on your device to N7100XXUEMK4 except for the bootloader.
Dont even try to downgrade the bootloader as this isn't possible.
What you need:
1.Odin v3.09
2.Stock official N7100XXUFND3 firmware on your device.
3. A device with Knox Warranty Void: 0
Procedure:
1.Download N7100XXUEMK4 Stock Rom from HERE
2. Open the downloaded file. You will find 4 .tar.md5 files and an Odinv3.09 zip file inside.
3. Extract the Odin file and setup Odin on your PC.
4. Next extract the file named AP_N7100XXUEMK4_2099172_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5
5. Load this file into AP tab on Odin. Connect your phone in Odin mode and flash this file.
( Note : You have to flash only the AP file from Odin. Do not flash the other files namely CP, CSC, BL)
6. Now once the phone has rebooted go back to download mode and check if Knox has tripped or not.
7. Next use Saferoot from HERE to root your device.
(You would find the guide on how to root using saferoot easily over HERE
8. Now if saferoot was able to root your device then you must be rooted without tripping Knox. :good:
9. Now you can easily flash your official firmware through mobile odin. Select Everroot option on Mobile odin while flashing the new firmware. In this way you wont lose root access.
Known Issues:
If after rooting you want to flash custom recovery via mobile odin, or via DR.Ketan's utilities app please note that it will trip knox.
Knox remains cool until your recovery is stock. The moment a custom recovery is detected knox goes 1.
Credits:
@k1mu for saferoot

Make sure status is ok (use triangle away if not)
Flash latest 4.4.2 bootloader via Odin (pcOdin)

Surely it can be done that way.
This is for those who already upgraded to the newer builds.
Edit: FYI Triangle Away cannot reset Knox.

Ok.
What i mean was use Triangle away before you flash the 4.4.2 bootloader to get official status and binary count 0, the knox in MJ5 always stand 0.

No idea about N7105
Do you know any N7105 stock firmware which is root able by saferoot/kingoroot without tripping knox?

But wouldn't flashing 4.4.2 BL trigger Knox? I got bit confused with @robalm method
@smeet.somaiya didn't some guy over at general forum under galaxy note 2 india told us that he downgraded from official 4.4.2 to stock 4.3 and his bootloader was downgraded as well?

I don't think flashing ND3 BL will trigger knox.
Most of the users already flashed ND3 BL from MJ5 while they were on DN3. It doesn't trigger that way.
And yes about that guy, he never mentioned any detail that he downgraded from ND3 to which firmware of 4.3.

infact you were the one who brought it to mine and haybill's attention that upgrading BL to ND3 triggers Knox ,i'll just ask haybill to send me a screenshot from phone info

I did read them. They got knoxed means they got a BL with Knox warranty Void 0. And @paarkhi confirmed it to me
And I really don't think it would trigger knox that way because the bootloader doesn't check the integrity of the firmware on your device when you're flashing the bootloader itself.
Also it doesn't trigger Knox while it boots up the system and finds unauthorized firmware.
Because we don't have Kernel lock and secure boot like on Qualcomm based N3.

Okay this is all too much for my brain to absorb at this time of the night ,i don't think i actually understand the difference between Knox warranty void and being Knoxed ,i guess since we install de-knoxed ROMs we can't get Knoxed ,just that our warranty goes out the window and we cannot downgrade beyond a certain OS right? If what i stated is wrong then i'll go to bed and dream of knox

Lol. It's paritally right.
Don't worry buddy I'll help you learn Knox
Being Knoxed is getting that extra line in the download mode.
But this doesn't throw away your warranty. Warranty is lost only when this extra line in download mode ends with 1 instead of 0

I cant say for sure if flashing only the new 4.4.2 bootloader via odin will trigger knox, i have not tested it myself.
My post was more of a question from me.

In my opinion that shouldn't trip Knox.
Let us know if you test it.

Have you got any feedback yet?
I do not have the balls to try it, my warranty is still valid and i may need to have it on service in future.

No feedback yet. But one thing i can say for sure that even if this method fails it won't hard rick your phone because we ain't downgrading the BL here.
And I found a similar method on S4 active forums. It seems it works very well.

Yes it would trigger by flashing unofficial firmware.
But here we ain't doing that too.
We're just flashing a older kernel+system partition (the whole PDA from MK4) that was vulnerable to root without tripping knox.
