Any chance of porting kit kat on hero ? - Hero, G2 Touch General

I was just wondering that as we know kit kat is very light on older devices.... Is there any chance of any d developer interested in porting it to HTC hero ?

That is not possible, this device struggled on JB 4.1, it doesnt have a 3.x kernel, no ION libs, no ION kernel, extremely low RAM, extremely low partition sizes

That's sad

[Q] Android 4.3 for GS4 GT-i9500?

Hello everybodie!!
Well i start this thread just because i´ve allready searched the web quite long enaugh to find out no concrete answer about that if is it possible and secure to upgrade my GS4 GT-i9500 from 4.2.2 samsung touchwizz ROM to the google play edition 4.3 pure android ROM.
I'm awared that some hardware features as some of the sensors are not fully exploited, but i´m an old android user and i'm new on samsung, and the truth is that i miss pure android. I dont use most of the touchwizz features anyway.
I just want a simple, neat and beatiful android phone with the power of the GS4. The thing would be simplier if i'd live in the US, i´d probably just buy the google play edition and lalala. But it's not available in my region. So the only chance i got is to modify my classic GS4 to get what i want.
There are some forums on the web that provide the way to do it, but i don't trust them just because those methods aren´t published here, the place i consider the most reliable one to get info about anything related to these matters.
I´ll be very thankfull if someone can help me.
Well unfortunately, since you have the GT-I9500, which is the octa-core version, you cannot install any of the Google edition Roms for your device as those Roms are for the Qualcomm snapdragon 600, which is the GT-I9505, so unless someone ports it to your specific device, no you cannot install 4.3 unless you want a shiny brick

To get yourself a pretty clean Android experience. Try CyanogenMod 10.2 for the 9500. Its stability is improving quite fast and its suitable to use as a daily driver as of now. It's just the camera thats not working. But apart from that you get Jelly Bean 4.3 and a super clean and fast UI.
Its worth it!

The camera not working doesn't convince me, so i'll just wait untill CM devs fix it.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat

What do you think about the new android version. In my opinion, it's great , with better UI( if the leaked photos are true) , less RAM usage and new kernel. What do you think about the S2? Will Samsung update our phone ? In my opinion Samsung will not update the S2 or the Galaxy Ace or Mini...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No they will not update our phone. And im also not too sure about new kernel. We do have dorimanx kernel which is light years ahead of most kernels... We have 3.12.rc1 while the Nexus have 3.4?
I don't thing Samsung will just think about updating the S2
It's an old device, it still an amazing device though
But updating it will not benefit Samsung
So no updates
But we still have AOSP

I think you may be misunderstanding the sites. They say its possible for 4.4 to run on our device. No updates mentioned.

S2 will run it
Samsung will not update it
Cyanogen will port it
Everithing will be ok except the fact that samsung will not give another update for s2 even 4.2.2 or 4.3 ... why they should think about 4.4?

4.2.2 and 4.3 are full of bloatware...that's why our s2 can't run it....in fact 4.4 will be slimmer...Most of the sites, say that android 4.4 will be released in October 14, which in my case is tomorrow....

Huh I find no issue with 4.2.2, its the best thing yet! We have spent so much time optimzing 4.2.2 that it is so stable and usable. Fast forward to 4.3 which is much newer we have spent much less time on it so for sure it is not as good. However I dont understand which part of either these versions, 4.2.2 or 4.3 is bloated care explaining? Even if Android 4.4 has so called less RAM usage and kernel improvements it would not really matter to us. Take kernel changes for example. We can't just port AOSP code and use it for our devices correct? Remember the time when we only had official 4.0 and 4.1 was released by Google. Everybody wanted Project butter. Due to Sammy not giving us official 4.1 and its source code on time (thank god they actually gave the source code..) we would never have gotten close to full project butter experience which we still lack fully. So if Sammy does not give us what we need then we can use 4.4 without its so called perks like "less RAM usage"
Yeah 4.4 should have lower hardware requirements. However, it doesn't matter because our exynos device still lacks proper drivers. That's worsen by the fact that we currently have no Galaxy S2 devs left working on CM to port new android versions to our device

Yes I know that. But our phone has no problem running 4.2.2 or 4.3 that are AOSP based...... So whats the purpose of this thread anyway.... Cus Sammy has no intention of ever updating this phone to a higher version...

Samsung adds a lot of bloatware to their official roms which make the device slow
that's why I never use stock rom
Yea but what about cool features like multi window smart functions and motion ?
If this doesn't mean smth for you .... what about drivers? 4.2/4.3 have a lot of glitches with graphics and cuz samsung dont release exynos source code our beloved s2 will die one day in a near future

Android 4.4

I heard a rumor 4.4 is good for old devices as it has better memory management and takes as little as 512mb of RAM. I can't wait for devlopers to make one for the dream/sapphire devices
this is the article I read: http://blogs.computerworld.com/android/23053/android-44-kitkat
Um, the dream has far less than 512mb, but still may run better than ICS or jb I would hope... But those willing to develop for the dream are few and far between

Too old to run Kit Katt.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
if they do , it would be great . but i don't think it could be possible .
I don't personally own a Dream but the fact that it was the first android and still has plenty of love is nice. My last phone was a droid x and we never did get jb just a lot of ICS love and kk was ported few months back and it is very smooth. Since the dream got a cm10 port it should be easy for a dev to port cm11 to it. Even if someone made into a "proof of concept" ROM haha
Tap'd from my P.A.C.'d Bionic

think KitKat 4.4 is possible in X8?

Okay! newest version of Android 4.4 has been released and its the most feature packed Android yet! as always
things! we as X8 user need to NOTE is the latest iteration of the Android has been super optimized
and able to run on a phone with lesser Resources that than JellyBean has to require, possible on a phone
with minimum RAM of 512MB, but we X8 user magically able to run Jellybean unofficially in form of CM10 created by our legends
that requires more resources than current KitKat. If we look at the X8's resources and side by side comparison
between Jellybean and KitKat, Theoretically we able to run KitKat much faster, smoother, responsive in our X8.
So if all the previous great and experienced developer hands on X8 again could we enjoy KitKat inside this
tiny device and extends its Development Community life?
or
JellyBean is the last for X8
it's not possible becasue Xperia X8 is too old and too weak for android 4.4 KitKat and there is someone to be finished built rom and kernel in my opinion.
Ya I agree x8 is too old, but in my opinion if we have the great past developer's and vibrant community again, we eventually could get it since logically 4.4 is very lightweight compared to current jelly bean, even galaxy nexus don't get Android 4.4 but anything possible in development community

1st of all an experienced developer who can work on the rom like nAa!
2nd - a kernel (something like the performance of alfs kernel) from good sources.
3rd -many people have ditched their x8. i still have it. so the remaining people should become testers.
I have played with kitkat and it is just awesome!!!

Yes we have great developers but, can not work as a team that was able to work together.
Sorry to say, but now we have great and RETIRED developers. All developers who made significant things in the x8 section now not working or working with newer phones. nAa and dx stopped everything, alfs looks like also inactive, daveee10 busy with his real work (and he have a galaxy s3, so probably he will not return).
Only few member try to make something new (for example afi1982 try to build 4.2, but not 4.4), and few modders active now...
I have Xperia Z and if I don't manage to get cm10.1 on our beloved x8 then it's time for me to move on..
In my opinion ĆM10.1 is to high for X8, whe have ĆM10 and it's TOO MUĆH really. Better save some money and buy phone like Xperia J, it's better idea than waste time for dev for legendery phone and dusted phone in old users

i noticed that on other phones like Galaxy Grand and others. Android 4.2.2 is way faster and smoother than 4.2.1 .
Please provide the rom soon. MINICM7 though fast , is really boring.
Also which kernel are you using it with? and how much free ram are you getting? I hated 4.2.1 keyboard because it always showed a pop up when adding words. I hope 4.2.2 doesnt have that problem.
I'd like to help with testing working builds

I know really need lot's of hard coding, and kernel modifications. But it's that KitKat running in a newer Linux kernel?

Depends on how YOU use your phone. You will get praise for both kernels but it does not matter what others say until you get your hands dirty and try them both out for yourself. YMMV
Good Luck!
