[Q] About updating from 4.2.2 to 4.3 using odin - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Ive searched and searched and cant find anything, i have just acquired a SGS4, I9505.
First of all... you will need to know this:
AP: I9505XXUDMGG
CP: I9505XXUDMGG
CSC: I9505VFGDMG3
Im on a understanding that this is on Voda (UK) software, however the handset isnt locked to Vodafone. I recieved this second hand and have a Three network sim on it.
My question:
I see on Samsung-updates.com and SamMobile that there are loads of 4.3 software variants available to download and flash, would i specifically need to look for a MGG one? (If so i can only find 4.2.2 ones) or would any UK Variant work? I was wanting to try this before i think about Custom romming the handset. . . Also, if i am available to do this would it lock the phone to Vodafone (If the handset was ever unlocked before i got it)
Thanks in Advanced guys.
Rob

There is a whole lengthy thread dedicated to UK firmware and discussion, all the information you could need or want is in there, if not, that would also be a good place to ask these kind of questions.

Branded THREE UK - unbrand

Hello,
I need to ask if There is any possibility to remove branded applications, and general system
three.uk operator, so that seemed normal as the normal S4.
I bought a phone with root, so this is not necessary, but I'm not sure if it's somehow going to make
and do not know how. TouchWiz does not bother me so or if there is a original samsung rom.
Thank you very much for your answers and advice

You can Flash with the BTU version of XXUBMGA and keep a pre Knox version of 4.2.2 If you want 4.3 you can Flash with a Knox version of the BTU Rom on XXUEMJ7. If you want 4.3 pre Knox you will have to read the forums to find the best option for you. Both of these options definitely work on a 3UK i9505 Galaxy S4

samsung galaxy s4 i9505 kitkat update uk, when will i get it?

hi all
i have the samsung galaxy s4 i9505 in the uk, i just want to know when will my phone recieve the 4.4.2 update as iv heard it has been release for the model but both OTA and kies doesnt detect it yet
currently my mobile runs 4.3 i9505XXUENAA
am i correct in say that the 4.4.2 update is called i9505XXUFNB9 if so i can download and install manually carnt i
thank you
Arnie, you just have to wait!.UK unbranded phones will undoubtedly be last to get it (as usual).
If you cant wait, then get that german or russian one.
I'll be back.....
But isnt i9505XXUFNB9 the international 4.4.2 if so I can manually download that
Have a look here, theres an open europe one in post 2.

I cant say much about it as Im not using it.Just wait for someone to confirm the best option for you, as you could end up with useless crap on your phone (I.e csc related).

Hey guys..
So I was trying to install a Korean Note 3 4.2.2 firmware (SM-N900S) on my Australian Note 3 (SM-N9005) using ODIN but was a failure.. It wouldn't proceed, saying "failed" so I gave up and instead of that I've installed UK Note 3 4.2.2 (SM-N9005)..
But I still want to install Korean firmware on my phone!!
So does anyone have any idea why this was a failure??
Is it because the model name is different?? (Will changing the model name by rooting help?)
From my past experience, I was able to install international firmware even without changing the model name..
About my device:
AP: N9005XXUEND3
CP: N9005XXUENC2
CSC: N9005OXAEND1
If you need any information about my phone (version etc.) Please ask!!
So I'm currently on UK BTU 4.2.2 (SM-N9005) and trying to install Korean SKT 4.2.2 (SM-N900S).
*This isn't a custom rom!!
Please help..
Thanks!!

The boot sequence in modern phones is secure/restricted (and Odin also tries to enforce it even before the boot - to stop you from writing bad stuff).
Basically the bootloader is different (something that you can also see even on the same N9005 model when going from 4.3 to 4.4 - 4.4 does not work with old 4.3 bootloader and currently there is a restriction which stops you from downgrading the bootloader).

But I'm not trying to downgrade.. Will it still not work..?
Also then, is there any other way to break this restriction?

No, you can't flash Korean rom on your N89005...

[Q] Vodafone UK Galaxy S4 ROM issue

Hi all
Firstly, I'm sorry if this has been posted elsewhere but I haven't been able to find it. I have a Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 (the non LTE version) on Vodafone UK, I had the latest update on Kit Kat (I think it was 4.4.2) it was behaving very oddly and freezing multiple times through out the day. I tried to flash a Vodafone ROM using Odin, but it failed, and keeps failing - I later found out that this is because the version of the ROM I was using is earlier than the version I had, which is why its not working.
My phone is now stuck on the Firmware Upgrade encountered an issue screen, but I can't locate the most recent 4.4.2 Vodafone UK ROM - is there anyone that can help me please?
Thank you very much in advance for your help
Find here all you gotta do is select your country and model ul get United Kingdom vodafone in country list select that and it'll give you the download link
