Rooted INC

Hello everyone. I just rooted my INC and downloaded the tethering APP. It will start up and I can start the tethering process. When I get on my mac (OS X 10.5) I can see the phone and can select it but there is no internet connection. I have been reading around and its being said that you have to make sure your kernel is tether enabled and that it supports netfilter/iptables. I have 2.6.29-cc1c2268 does anyone know if this kernel works with the tethering app you find in the marketplace. If it is does anyone have any idea why i cant get internet on the tethered device? I have tried changing the channels and I have tried to turn access control on and off with no luck. Any ideas on where to go from here?

I was having the same problem. I'm on Windows 7 64bit. What I did was follow these steps from unrevoked. http://www.unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php?id=public:adb_in_recovery
follow the steps at the bottom after outside of recovery. download that .bin file. make a folder on your sd card labeled "android.tether" and put that .bin file in it. after i did that wifi tether worked no problems.
Thanks for the suggestion, I tried that but it doesnt seem to be working. Im not sure what they are doing with all the commands that look like a DOS prompt are they doing that in recovery mode or something? Im on a mac i just downloaded the file placed it on a created folder. Was there a step I missed? I am new to the world of android phones coming from a BB so I may be misunderstanding this at some point

I didn't do any of those steps. I just hooked up my phone to my computer and set it as a disk drive so my computer could see my sd card. I went into my sd card and made a folder named android.tether and put the .bin file in that folder. after that wifi tether worked for me.
Damn well it doesnt seem to be working here Ive tried my mac my pc and my Ipod with no luck just wont connect what Kernel are you running?
OK OK so I might be a total idiot but I haven't relabeled the drives (both showed as unknown) when they show on the screen and I installed the file on the internal memory not the SD. After switching this IT WORKED! You are a genius man thanks for the help! I know it was a stupid mistake.

Tethering HTC-HD2 with Android

Hi,
I can't seem to get my HTC-HD2 (T-mobile) working for tethering. I just flashed my phone with the Android 2.2 OS successfully but when i plug my phone in via USB, Windows XP can't install the driver manually or automatically. I Installed the Google USB Drivers via SDK Manager for the "Android Hardware Found" message but for some reason it tells me the driver was not found.
I don't know if i doing this right. Do i need a driver for the HTC-HD2?
I am trying to connect to the internet with the phone instead of using the hotspot which interferes with other wireless devices. This is prohibited at my job so I was wondering if tethering would work with my HTC-HD2...
..Sorry for posting this in the wrong section.
Thanks
Nevermind...Fixed.
Should've have done some searching first before i posted.
Thanks
I am having the same problem but with Windows 7. Can you tell me what did you do to fix this issue?
for pdmj, please dont say "nevermind i figured it out" If you are going to make a topic at least post to it what you found instead of causing yet more topics to pop up without answers.

maan it was "theshadow1234" who figured it out and its pissing me off much too that he wasnt able to post a solution to this mo******in problem Oo
I got "Wi-Fi Tether v3_0 pre14" working on BOYPPC-SHIFTPDA Gingerbread SD Build V7.
But only in AD-HOC mode. I think, it will work on any ROM. You just need to specify connection mode from 'master' to 'AD-HOC' and your computer will connect without any limitations automatically. Good luck!

[Q] Having trouble getting Mac OS X to see N4 with adb and fastboot

Hello,
My N4 is soft-bricked. Well, hopefully that's all it is.
I want to sideload a ROM onto it, via Mac OS X 10.9.3
I have found plenty of instructions on how to do that with a Mac.
But I can't get ADB or fastboot to see the device.
When I go to the system information on this Mac and looked at the USB devices, I see the Nexus there... along with its serial number, etc. But in Terminal I get a device not found error in ADB and nothing at all in fastboot.
It is my understanding I don't need to install any special drivers on Mac for it to detect the device. Is that correct?
If not, does any one have any suggestions on how I might get this device connected properly?
Thank you...
With further research, I have made some progress. I found this: http://stackoverflow.com/a/7169048
It says:
Also, if that does not work, check to see if the device shows up under USB in the System Profiler (included in OS X). If it is showing up there, but not in ADB, try adding the USB Vendor ID of the phone to ~/.android/adb_usb.ini
This file can be created if it does not already exist. The Vendor ID of the Nexus S is 0x18d1. Please make sure the last line of the file is a Vendor ID, do not leave a blank line at the end.

After doing that, I can now see my N4 listed. Well, at least it does when I am in recovery mode.
Now I shall see if I can make some progress with pushing a ROM to this thing (I am new to all this, so I'll see how this goes...)
Can you get to the bootloader screen? Only there fastboot will work.
Way easier if you just set up a virtual machine and run Odin from Windows.

Installation and run Kali linux

Hello,
1. Downloaded kalilinux.FULL.ext4.20131031.zip of around 2.2 GB.
2. Extracted zip on sdcard in kali folder and I got kalilinux.FULL.ext4.v2.img of 5.59 GB.
3. Installed Linux deploy from play store.
4. In the Linux deploy tap on right bottom download button and selected Kali Linux as distribution option, installation path /sdcard/storage/0/kali/Kali.img (I renamed the img).
5. Clicked on install option from menu option. Did not worked, got message something like Mounting Partitions... fail.
6. OK. I left this way and installed Linux deploy and reinstalled Linux deploy and installed kali Linux from Wi-Fi connection, it seems it got worked and after seeing many retrieving, validating, installing and configurating messages in Linux deploy, it seems me got installed.
7. But, I don't know how do I access Kali Linux on my this one plus one device which is running aicp 7.1.1 ROM.
Kindly tell me what step(s) need to run Kali Linux on my phone. I am interested to use above Kali.IMG, so that a fresh new installation can use this IMG which have bundelled many pre configured modules.

Thanks for your reply. Yes sir, I have installed vnc app too, but I don't know what settings I need to have. I tried by localhost and Kali for connect, but it is saying "The port on which computer is listening for a connection could not be contacted". I don't know which "computer" is it talking about and what port I need to use?

Ok, no problem. Please share with us as and when you get success by installation and running Kali on the phone. I would like to request to other xda experts to please tell us how they are able to install Kali with offline .IMG file and other vnc settings.
May I ask here?
After installation kali runs as a normal operating system, not as an app, correct?
Does it run as a dual boot OS?

Well, it does run as a normal operating system, but it's sandboxed into an app. It's like a virtual machine.

I tried it a couple weeks ago and it's surprisingly functional. Here's my settings: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B1HrmNJiLNhjb04ydWlpaktPNkU
Press the button at the bottom-right, configure, then go back, press the three dots at the top then press install. After it's done, go to your VNC app of choice (I use VNC Viewer), add IP address localhost:5900, connect then enter user password. Ta da!
Btw, the reason you couldn't get it working is because you downloaded an image and used that, when Linux Deploy does everything for you.

Thanks for your reply. I will try your way when I will be in WiFi network area. Since, in my region network issue exists, I want to learn Kali installation by offline downloaded zip file so that :
1. Network issue can be override.
2. If I changes the ROM, I can play with zip on different ROMs.
So, please give a try by installing zip file as and when you gets spare time and kindly post your offline steps.

Thank you for your help. I could boot windows using the recovery option, it was quickly and very easy, However, I don't have the drivers.
Is there a way to install the drivers using the rar posted by Sandsman? or where can I download the drivers, or an utility that auto install them.
Regards!
