since google has recently released their official new android version , aka , kit kat (4.4) , many devs have also started to port and make new roms for our beloved galaxy s2. but . to flash such roms on our device , i9100 needs to run the proper and compatible recovery which can run the kit kat custom roms . i searched a lot and also found a few people stating in a few posts , about the required recovery . i have done no efforts whatsoever . thank the guy (max lee @ galaxys2root.com ) for extracting the kernel/recovery from cm10.2 and making a flashable zip . attached the file below .
Copy the .zip file onto your sd card and flash it from your cwm.after flashing , reboot your recovery and ... voila ! you'll be running cwm recovery v6.0.4.5 ! thats just about it folks ! thanks a lot for your time .
Press thanks if i helped you .
Sorry to pop your bubble, but this topic doesn't belong to Original Android Development section ( I GUESS). Anyways, thank you for the recovery.
Kit-Kat official
Guys,to be honest, why in the world google has stopped the support for SGS2 back to 4.1.2 ? running custom ROMs on 4.2 or 4.3 shows us that the device is supporting greater versions of the Android. I just wonder...I got my SGS2 after i compared this phone with an iPhone 4 that i owned. After i saw that SGS2 is way better,i trade my iphone for s2. This device need more official support in my opinion. sorry if i post this a bit off-topic.

Market Strategy is why I switched from IOS to Android. Apple and his main product sucks big time,Iphone 4 is less performant than an average android phone ( i keep telling iphone users that an huawei phone can beat an iPhone easy ) so whatta hell ? I understand that every manufacturer needs to make money, but shutting down the support for a 2 years phone in order to promote your latest devices is just unfair. THANK YOU XDA FORUM FOR EXISTING ! :victory:

Its still better and popular than any other 2 years old phone and even many latest phones. Samsung should not stop its development just because its a two years old phone its still a powerful, popular and capable device so it deserves more updates

Thanks. Exactly what I was looking for. As a side note for those coming from latest official stock JB (4.1.2) like myself there is an intermediate step: flash this first.
CWM last version
Hi, Where can I find the latest version of CWM? Thanks
Thanks for sharing.
you can find the latest cwm recovery in any latest kk rom available for our device ... the one i attached is an earlier version of cwm ... or you can flash @ Gustavo's kernel for cm11 , slimkat , or omni .. which i think i has the latest cwm recovery ( v6.0.4.7 )
All the best !
Good job
thank you
Is kernel included?
Thank you.

Hi everyone!
I'm starting this thread because I need to know how many of you have I9192 like me...
I finished porting the @dsixda's kitchen (actually it wasn't that hard, since the mount points are the same of serranolte) and started trying to mod my first system
I want to try to port CM10.1 to our phone, for that I need your help, since I'll need other testers and ppl willing to help.
I would also like to thank a few ppl from xda which have helped me a lot:
@dsixda for creating the kitchen
@Vierko for being patient with me and answering my posts
@cheatman for creating the rooted kernel of i9192 and creating KyleOPEN ROM (which my girlfriend uses and loves xD)
I decided to mention someone else here that has been very helpful to the Galaxy S 4 Mini community and when I re-read this post earlier, I thought it was not right not to mention him...
@arco68 Thank you for helping everyone here a lot too!
Hello Dijinn, I'm planning to buy this phone soon. My only concern was CM support for it. Now my hopes are on you!

+1 I am also planing to buy it so would be a good idea to have CM for it. I am now using Kyle OPEN ROM (4.0.4) on my 7562 and I am very excited to replace it with a bit more powerful dual sim phone. Not many other options though .
I have one and I am glad to help anytime

It would be Custom ROM for Dual-SIM at last
I would like to get the DuoS version of the S4 mini, the only thing that's been holding me back is that dual-SIM in general is very poorly supported by custom ROM, so if there would be a CM ROM for the S4 mini DuoS that would be heaven!

You see, the problem on custom ROM for dual chip is that dual chipping is not supported by Android itself...
Google doesn't have any support to dual sim, which means that each of the companies that make dual sim phones create their own way to use both sim slots and etc... Some phones like samsung you can't even get the methods they use to connect to the sim slots using reflection, which makes thing quite hard...
I'm doing my best on trying to figure out what are the modules and stuff needed to port CM but IT IS GONNA TAKE A WHILE! (caps so ppl don't get mad at me later on xD)
I've figured a few things up taking a look at the stock rom and it seems that the biggest problem is the lack of apks that work with dual sim...
For example, the phone application for dual sim samsung phones is a different version of the phone application with 2 buttons to make the call, same goes for sms and mms apps...
I think that even if we port CM to this phone, we are gonna get stuck with some stock apps....
I'm too as well!!
Custom ROMs....???
I am also der bro...I am having S4 mini i9192...!!
Is der problem only with CM...??
Can we get other custom ROMs..??
I was using Xolo Q800 before...it is also a dual sim phone...but, developers are many to make a lot of custom ROMs...I sit possible here..??

I'm doing my best with sir @arco68 to figure out what's needed to make the first port of a ROM for a dual sim phone
The biggest problem is the fact that android itself does not support dual sim functions, so each company did it their own way...¬¬'
Maybe, just maybe, if we figure out how to do it for S4 Mini, we can do it for other samsung phones....and maybe, just maybe we can work things around for other dual sim phones
I bought the phone a week ago and I'm extremely happy with it so far. I'd love to try CM on it though

There is a lot of users who waits fully google-free firmware for Samsung G4-mini dios gt-i9192
Now, home-cleared from googletrash original firmware have 2 big disadvantages:
1) kernel and os android have unrestrictable parasite internet trafic(afwall+donate) which appears syncronously with good trafic of any app.
2) a big battery drain spontaneously occur even by using down clocking battery saving apps. Only reset can help.
I heared that good firmware for gt-i9195 can be adopted for gt-i9192
We will wait this modification.

Best thing people can do is stop posting things like when we have xyz and I cant wait bla bla bla and just wait for the people who are compiling ics/cm9 to do it
It will be ready when its ready and not before
You will know its ready when it is posted - not before

I think it is too early to talk about this version for our phones. I hope official KK will be rolled out for all versions and then see what and how.

I think KitKat was a sort of interim build to get low end devices to join the party.

yes, the big thing about kitkat was that it could run on devices with as little as 512MB of ram
Now i know that most manufacturers probably didnt come to the party with regard to updates, but im pretty sure that most devices had custom roms built with kitkat.
Also, the android one project is specifically targeted at low end devices and emerging markets and those devices will run L
Android L ported apps are out:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/try-android-l-apps-on-your-device/
What will L look like when Samsung puts its Touchwiz on top??...
Or they release a neu TW launcher which has the Material design etc.implemented.

Presently sitting on an old build ROM
Pixelized-OS-v2.9-20180816-SM-T230NU-FIX
That has worked relatively well even on this device with limited storage, processor, and memory. Either way, I'd love to help my unit has been rooted for 3 or so years and please let all of us know if we can help.
Please also note, I use this device only as a backup, so starting over and trying something fresh can happen quickly.

Android 10 should work with some optimization- porting the kernel to a relatively new version would likely be the hardest part.

can only try lol
I just found all device tree specific blobs and all that. Can start from there at least. Then once we get it booted and working then we can go for Android 8-10

How complicated is it to slim down the builds as much as possible?
I don't see needing all the extra TouchWiz crap that this device barely supports and had survived using Link2SD for storage. Something stable supporting at least basic apps is all I need, and most of those (Gmail, Chrome, etc) are now available from play store.
Thanks for trying and let me know if o can help! Sorli...

Hi, my advice is starting by taking sources from other variants (you can find them in GitHub S3NEO organization) and editing sources by starting from that base. For the kernel, it shouldn't be difficult to make a defconfig by always looking in matisse and millet ones. I advice you to start from Android 9 (lineage-16.0 branches) since they are the most stable. If you are really interested to work, you can write me in Telegram (same username as xda profile) and I can write you something more about what you should do.
Android 8, 9 or 10 will be nice, but right now I will be happy with Android 5. Are there any ROMs for degas higher than 4.4.4?
Are there any true Android 5 or Android 7 ROMs for this device?

For now most of the ROMs out there are based on touchwiz so they are 4.4 with themes. I hope devs can build proper Android 8+ ROM for our good old buddy

We can't because degas has different SoC and nobody of the devs have this device. So, we can't do anything.

Yeah that Marvell CPU and Vivante GPU is a real headache I guess. Why Samsung put them in it lol Maybe one day (when NewPipe stops fully working on my Tab 4) I'll grab a new Tab (probably S series this time).

I have given up on porting brand new Android versions (for now) and right now I have Android 5 running. Quite unstable at the moment.

I ask developers to make Android 5 + ROM on Degas, because there are many apps in China that can't run on Android 4.4. Sorry, my English

That problem is not only for China dude. That's why most of the people (incl. me) want newer Android to our loved Degas
Because Android development for this tablet seem to be DEAD I started to wonder if I could install Windows 10? I bumped to this thing claiming it can install WIndows to any android tablet but I'm yet to try it out...
