I want to make sure that all root users who use Music Beta to know this:
I am rooted, of course... and it turns out that every time I wiped data on my Xoom, and then signed back into my Music Beta account on a fresh new install, it would end up adding my Xoom to my list of allowed devices again. My Xoom was actually listed 7 times on the Music Beta device list, followed by my Droid, which is a total of 8 devices, and is also the maximum amount that you can have. I could not get the Xoom to log into my account after another data wipe until I deauthorized a device from my list. (Screenshot attached below)
IMPORTANT LESSON OF THE DAY:
If you own a Xoom, are rooted, wipe data a lot, and you use Music Beta a lot... you will want to make sure that you check out your device list right away. I can guarantee that your Xoom is listed more than one time. If there are multiple device entries of the same thing, just remove them off your list. It's that easy!
And if you don't do this... eventually you will end up hitting 8 devices total like I did. Then you will have to remove at least one device entry from the list before you can use it again, because you are only allowed 8 devices at a time, even if it just so happens to be the same device listed 8 different times. Just be aware of that situation and you won't ever have a problem.
HOW TO FIX THIS:
Just log into the desktop version of Music Beta by clicking here, go into settings, and then you'll see a place to manage your devices. Just remove the multiple device entries from the list by deauthorizing them, and then... presto! We're back in business!
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Well, with the Tiamat Rom receiving a good number of updates recently requiring full data wipes... you will run into this problem soon enough, trust me, especially if you are a big user of the Music Beta app. I jumped Roms quite a bit and it added up very quickly until I finally realized that this was happening. In case you didn't know about this, you do now. Over time you will want to check back and remove the multiple devices just so you don't have any problems in the future.
If anyone has found this information useful or informative, please give me a thanks. Also, leave any comments if you have any. Thanks all!

yer my xoom was on twice. Thanks for this.
Music beta is cloud storage... Not just media app. And yes, there are alot of good media players available.

Indeed. Media players such as PowerAMP (which is my favorite) blow Music Beta out of the water in terms of the UI and features. The reason people use this is, you are right... it's a cloud music player. No other app out there can connect to the Google Music servers. I personally like Music Beta and it's UI. And it's always a plus when you don't have to store all of your music on the SD card. Thank you cloud storage!
Although I would like more customization... I do enjoy using the Music Beta app. It's a solid build, and I am sure more updates are on the way to improve upon it even more.
Same thing applies if you're a Kindle user. My nexus was listed four times at amazon.

I fell into that trap with my phone.
took me like a day to figure it out
except the phone didnt give me a useful error - just said that i couldnt download and cache music
I'm having an issue with Google Music Beta. When installing the app on my Xoom WiFi it syncs without problems, but after a while the sync disappears and the music app indicates that I have no music. The only way to resolve it is by downloading and installing the app again - but then the same happens after a short while again, even if the Xoom isn't rebooted.
I have checked under Music Settings in my online account and only 4 devices are connected to the account, the Xoom not being one of them. I also deleted the data in the app to see if that helped. Has anyone experienced a similar issue?
I'm running the latest Tiamat rom.
Btw, it appears it's now possible to link up to 10 devices to the Music account.
Hi All
I know this has been discussed quite a few times before in other posts, but the offered solution doesn't seem to apply to my new S4.
I want to 'find' the music that I've downloaded from the Google Play Music app. I've clicked on the little map pin icon in the app and I can see the track downloading. However when I go to the 'Android/Data/com.google.android.music/cache' or 'Android/Data/com.google.android.music/files' (depending on which post you read), the track ISN''T there. I've repeated the download exercise a number of times, but still can't find the music.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks

you are not doing anything. I assume our friends from google have hidden the file well.
I have the same issue: the pin is orange (so the file should be on the phone), but it is nowhere to be found. music player does not find it either..
The bizarre thing is I *can* see the track in the Google Play Music app

Yes, searching for it doesn't find anything either - weird!
i can see the files (their names are numbers) but i cant play them in ANY player (unsupported format, even if it clearly says .mp3) and on the pc aswell. Ideas?
I have All Access n google music
Google Voice search won't launch android music player. If I use the right command "listen to", it offers music player as a choice but then doesn't pass the query to the player-- I select android music player and it starts playing a random song.
Also, when using a bluetooth earpiece, pushing the call button brings up Google Voice Dialer (and not google search). It doesn't respond to anything I say at that point. How do I get the native Google Voice assistant to come up instead?
I'm running MDOB 1.8.
I just moved from Iphone so it would be great to get these quite basic features to work on my S4...

Why don't you use S-Voice--just asking--it does all I need extremely well
I'm trying to get rid of the bloatware. The S4 is unacceptably slow until you strip the junk out. And I thought Google Voice Assist was much better than Siri-- but it seems to be broken on many phones right now.

Interesting, mine is extremely smooth and fast even before I rooted. I still have not removed any apps. It was a long process to decide to root and flash twrp as things were going very well.
Did you set animations to .5 and check disable hw overlays in development section of settings/more?
As far as S-Voice it is far better than any other voice to text I ever used. Esp when speaking addresses in Maps--
Hope you get it sorted
Hello,
I have posted this in previous forums with other devices but I figured since this is a new device for me maybe I would get different responses. Does anyone else seem to notice that the directional arrow between Google maps old vs. new is off by about 15°? It's very annoying to me and I hoped it would be different with a new device (coming from Nexus 4) but same result. I have an old version of Google maps not connected to the Play Store but would like to use the new one. Any thoughts, workarounds, setting tweaks, etc?

Yes! It's really frustrating! I don't have a G2 either, it seems google really messed it up.
Edit: Do you have an issue with the maps not as accurate as before either? Let me explain a little:
The other day I was driving and the maps needed me to get in the right lane because it separates from the rest of the road. I did so but it thought I didn't get over, and started to reroute and show me still on the main road. It never used to have an issue with it or similar things until the latest update.

I've noticed those discrepancies too. I can just use the old version of maps but if I do that and I click a maps link, like in Google search for example, it says there's no application to open this item. Because the version of maps is one someone kinda hacked to automatically not be detected by Google Play for the upgrade. So it's kind of a trade off. Convenience vs. Accuracy.

What are the recommended apps to disable and/or get rid of? I did a factory reset because of nasty wake locks and trying to figure everything that can be disabled without losing features or anything. I know some of this is subjective, but still like some ideas. Thanks.

Until I can completely remove some bloat, I have the following turned off so far. It's by no means a thorough list.
Accessories
Audible
BlurbCheckout
Calculator (installed 3rd party Calculator)
Caller Name ID
Cloud
FamilyBase Companion
Google Play Books
HP Print Service Plugin
Message+ (Didn't even bother to figer out what this is before I killed it)
Messages (installed Hangouts and/or 3rd party messagin app)
My InfoZone
NFL Mobile
Smart Remote (downloaded the latest WatchOn app from Samsung)
Swype
Verizon Location Agent
Verizon Support and Protection
Verizon Tones
VZ Navigator
As far as the text-to-speech deletion goes, just uninstall whichever ones you don't anticipate needing.
Settings>Language and Input>text-to-speech options>Listen to an example. Really it's personal preference, and uninstalling unused tts voice data only serves to free up internal storage. For example, the "high quality" female English US voice for Google TTS is 244MB, The Samsung high quality voice data is around 90MB per language/gender.

Samsung has launched s5 devices with less permissions do to whatever you want! So maybe you have to root your device (which is not possible right now bcoz it will cut your warranty out) So another solution for it is try to search for an app on play store which disables system applications! Without root
I've turned off the following:
Accessories
Audible
Blurb Checkout
Caller Name ID
Family Base Companion
Flipboard
Google Play Books
Google Play Newsstand
IMDb
Isis Mobile Wallet
My InfoZone
My Magazine
NFL Mobile
Samsung Link Platform
Slacker
Smart Remote
VZ Navigator
This is my complete list... everything still works (except the Samsung bloat crap like S-voice and the verizon garbage pre-loaded). I did turn off some Google apps that were needless, and the Samsung fitness stuff (e.g. ANT+ connection, fitness, etc.), in addition to other things (S-pen, fonts, etc.)

I believe samsung billing is for app purchases through their proprietary app store
Samsung Link is a protocol for connecting only with samsung TV's/laptops - has functionality for screen-mirroring, DLNA only with samsung branded devices.
Samsung Galaxy... I'm not entirely sure what it does to be honest. I've tested fairly extensively if any functionality / apps / services are broken as a result, and everything still seems to work fine. I have a suspicion that this is related to a tutorial/demo function.

Ah ok, thanks! I see that you have the "Downloads" app turned off. What does that app do? I know it's part of media, which is giving me a lot of wakelocks. The three things that are part of "Media", can you uninstall all three, and what does each one do?

Downloads app is just an app that shows a history/list of everything you've recently downloaded (e.g. in the downloads folder). I prefer to use ESFileExplorer as it's more versatile as a file manager, and I don't care for an app that tracks file downloads/history.
In previous android versions, I believe the Media app was part of what cached/listed files such as images (thumbnails), music files, docs, etc. I vaguely recall disabling it in the past to find that all my MP3's and photos no longer appeared in the gallery/google music app. I would not disable it if my memory serves me correctly.
Yeah, your battery usage looks about in-par with mine. I came from a GNex and was used to seeing display always overtaking androidOS/systemUI (man, that phone had atrocious battery life and screen-on time)... the GS5 has such a great power-sipping display that I came to the same surprise as you to find it ranks on-par/sometimes below OS usage in a normal day. The battery life on this phone rocks.
EDIT: Media usage will sometimes spike if you've recently added a bunch of new files (photos, mp3's, etc.) to your device, as it's scanning/caching/indexing lists to the files. I'd give it a day or two if that's the case, and you'll see it won't consume much of anything once things are static on your phone.

Oh OK. I see. So perfectly safe to disable downloads. What about the media app itself? Do you have it disabled? That screen shot with the high media usage, I'm not sure we have it was so high. It's first time it has been like that and I haven't added any more music. Another question.
Do You Know What The Chrome sandbox is? And does your keyboard ever do that thing with the capital letters?

I don't have the media app disabled and wouldn't recommend it. I also wouldn't disable chrome sandbox ( though I'm not sure of its function, its installed alongside the app so it may be a plugin for other apps).
Not sure what keyboard caps problem you're referring to. I use only the android keyboard (not Samsung nor Swype).
