A'right ,here is the question, If I want to update my S4 via "Kies" how much would be the firmware size? (the new XXUEMK8 build)
I've try to update it via kies, but it did not show the "download size". Is it over 1 GB? or less?
(it is important to me). If you know please let me know, too. I am currently at android 4.3 XXUEMJ6.
And I also know that if I want to update my S4 via odin I must download the stock firmware (which is almost 1.5 GB) which is not my answer!
Second question, Is it worth to update to the latest version? for me, It doesn't seem to have problem with current build.
Yes.. It seems to be more than 1GB.. It took 2 hours to download via Kies.. I was getting Maximum rollouts exceeded message on OTA.. So updated via Kies...

'ello geeks,
I know Kies has been infamous for just about every reason a piece of software can be..Perhaps before investing in S4 I should have gone through Kies reviews as well and not just phone's.
Anyway, the issue I am facing is since Samsung released the firmware upgrade for Galaxy S4 , I have been trying to upgrade via Kies (I do not have a wife router) and faced with below:
1. While it downloads the firmware data, it randomly shows phone's disconnected and I have to restart the download.
2. On one instances, it did go through the upgrade procedure completely but only firmware ID got updated as none of the features came in...on top of that ability to change unlock effect in settings got disabled for some reason. Post this I had reset the phone.
3. Another question is, for around 350 mb upgrade, Kies keeps on downloading 7 gb+ data,,,is this normal? and why would that be for?

Please let me know if you people have a different experience and whether anything can be done to mend it...or this is how the life with Kies is!
Thanks!
I am assuming that you are not rooted.
Try updating it manually via Odin
Download the official firmware file from here
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
And follow the step from here

1. Download Kies Software and run it. (www.samsung.com/us/kies)
2. Connect your phone via USB to computer.
3. Kies will tell you if it needs to update or not. (you must be online)
4. If update available, simply click on "Update" button. :good:
If you have android 4.2 you must install "Kies". "Kies version 3" is for Android 4.3 devices.
If you flash a Stock Rom via Odin, you still will be able to update OTA.

Did you rooted your device before?
If you have rooted device your device status is shown modified or custom so you can not update with kies or OTA. Use Wanam Xposed to fake this situation into "Official".
Before that you may try Triangle Away.
NOTE: Use above apps at your own risk.
I'm using a Czech T-mobile S4 GT-I9505 which is currently running firmware 4.3 (baseband I9505XXUEMKF) and am unclear about whether I'll be able to get an official update to 4.4.2 via my Singapore carrier (Starhub) at any point. I can't go via Kies, it says the device doesn't support firmware initialization.
Any advice would be welcome, thanks very much in advance.

1. Android 4.3 and android 4.4.2 use KIES 3.
2. When u conect ur phone to Kies 3, you dont need press Tools -> Firmware Upgrade and Initialization. The update, if u have any, will pop up automatically (example in pic 1 attached).
3. If Kies 3 tell u that can't update is coz the old owner installed one firmware with wrong CSC.
- Go to Kies 3 and you will see ur CSC (its your zone code) like the pic 2 attached.
- Knowing ur CSC, take a look for this firmware in Sammobile.com
- Download and flash it with ODIN (Dont flash a "Black EDITION" if ur phone isnt it)
- Enjoy
Thanks for the reply.
Actually, this was a new phone, but it was purchased as a grey market import. I should have said that I have tried to go via Kies but it tells me I have the latest firmware. So does the phone OTA update.
Could it be that the OTA update is still connecting to the update server for Czech S4 phones and there hasn't been a 4.4.2 rollout there yet? If so, it looks like I have to root it if I want to go to 4.4.2.

Hi. This may be a dumb question but I'm just learning all about android. Anyways a few months back I installed a leaked version of Android 4.4.2 (Baseband Version I337UCUFMLD) then when AT&T released the official version of Kitkat(Baseband Version I337UCUFNB1), I didn't receive an OTA update or an update via Kies (and never have since). My question is, is there a way to update/flash/install (or whatever) the official AT&T firmware so my phone is "legit"? Also, if I'm stuck on this firmware for now, will I get a OTA or Kies update when Android 4.4.3 (or whatever the next update is) is released?
Thanks for any help.
1. It's normal don't get updates (OTA and Kies don't support them either) in leaked versions. Remember install Kies 3 for equal or higher firmwares to android 4.3.
2. Way for update ur phone via ODIN: HERE.
3. Only you will receive the updates if you flash STOCK ROM original (firmware in step 2) and you don't root ur phone.
Hi guys, I'm having trouble updating my N910H. I'm almost a newbie, so please take that into account.
I have a Note 4 N910H with TTT as its original region for updates. Since that region barely receives any OTA updates, I installled the stock firmware 5.1.1 from some other region, RSU if I remember correctly, might be other though.
I received an OTA for my phone, but it fails to install. After the instalation begins, it will stop at 32% and then will reboot the phone, asking me to send a report to Samsung and so on. The OTA update version is N910HXXU2CPB2/N910HOJV2CPB1/N910HXXU1COJ2
A message tells me to try updating through Smart Switch, but once I connect the phone via USB, SS will show my current OJ4 (TTT) as its lastest firmware available.
So, this is where I stand now.
Please give me a hand with this. I appreciate your help in advance.
I'm unable to post the screenshots due to insufficient numbers of post.
Well the only suggestion I could give you is download the latest ROM for your model (H version) from sammobile.com and then flash it with Odin.
Something must have changed in system level in your ROM, that's why the OTA is failing. No big deal anyway.
