I was happy to find the s2 on the official supported devices here http://dl.omnirom.org/
but then was disappointed to find that Omni does only support the variants of the s2, and the original I9100 isn't supported
is there any plans for supporting i9100 soon ?!
To be honest... dont know..
Since n7000 is supported... I dont see 9100 far from here...

That's what made me shocked
n7000 and i9100 are nearly 100% identical in hardware
both have Exynos chipset with a Dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 with a slight different clock speed
and the same gpu
Even the i777 is supported which I think has the same specs of the s2, doesn't it !?
Hope the i9100 gets supported soon

What I feel why note made it so early was due to fact that its owned by our beloved developer xplody..
Secondly why note 2 made to list is that its owned by our admin pulser_g2.
They both can build and kill bugs by themselves
Or else wait for exynos devices for official omni nightlies would have been longer. So u should be happy that a exynos device made it to first list
My hypothesis
Entropy said once or twice here that i9100 will get Omni practically the next day after n7000 is ironed out.
And n7000 is quite close to being fully functional: the only major bug left is enforcing SELinux, which won't let you install
some of the PlayStore apps, and also doesn't allow for apps to be moved to SD card. After that, n7000 is fully operational
in my book. I know Entropy will never agree with my statement being the perfectionist that he is (hwc broken, Yamahell etc),
but everything important is working out of the box except SELinux.
So, don't worry, i9100 should see Omni fairly soon.

At some point next week I'm going to gerrit up a set of commits for i9100.
The thing is, pretty much - I own an n7000 and i777.
xplodwild owned an n7000 and i9100, but I think his i9100 might be dead or he's just too busy
It really comes down to - those who do own this device seem to prefer putting up unofficial builds as opposed to going to Pulser's "merging/forking request" thread to get i9100 forked (I'm not sure why it wasn't forked when i777/n7000 were.) then getting their bringup commits up on gerrit. That's why there is no official support. (I just PMed plodey and pulser to get i9100 forked so that people can gerrit stuff for it...)

4.3 is, in theory, brought up. It built but is untested.
4.4 support for the 4.4 branch is on gerrit ( https://gerrit.omnirom.org/#/q/status:open+project:android_device_samsung_i9100,n,z ), and will remain in review until someone tests it and reviews the patches on gerrit. Similarly, those patches (you'll need all of them) build but the results are untested.
That was fast:

Hello everyone. The time has come. Today Samsung announced their new flagship device GT i9300 A.K.A. Galaxy S3. Now, if you are a big fan of pure AOSP and his aftermarket distributions like I am you certainly already know that ICS based CyanogenMod 9 is out there and running and its pure fresh blazing awesomeness. That said, I decided to start this pledge to gather money to give Teamhacksung members codeworkx and xplodwild the next Samsung Galaxy S3 so they can develop for it and port CM9. As you probably know, Teamhacksung is the official CM mantainer for Samsung devices.
Im daily in touch with Teamhacksung members and they are already aware and fully support this pledge.
We running for two devices here. The ammount already includes Pledgie taxes. The donnations are going straight to xplodwild’s paypal account.
We count on you that, like me, is certainly going to buy this new beast called Galaxy S3 and want to see it sporting CM9 and future Google AOSP releases.
CM9 on Galaxy S3 for the WIN!!!!

****[UPDATE]****
People,
Im very proud to come here and say that
WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!!
I want to thank all of you very much for the collaboration. We did it and we did it fast. We are TEH community and we always prove right that we have such amazing power together. Thank you very very much again.
Now devs have what is needed to start the wild porting workx. Stay tuned! I will reach you with more news when I have them.
going to donate! this is definitely needed!
As soon as xplodwild at teamhacksung received the galaxy note, we received the cm9 official build instantly.
and we raised funds in just 24 hours where we could get them the galaxy note, love the community spirit. lets do it!
s3 needs to pimp the cm9 for sure!

I'm not entirely sure I will want to put a vanilla or CM on this phone right away... the stock Touchwiz ROM seems to have a lot of nice features.. Unless these can be incorporated into a ROM that is based on CM9 or what-have-you I think I will try running a stock Touchwiz ROM with root access.. I have never used Touchwiz but even if I had I couldn't definitively say I won't like this because it's new to everyone.

Awesome.

To each their own.
Thanks for being so sarcastic. I guess things went a bit too fast.
Actually, while the Galaxy S3 will have many great features, they're all software-based. And after looking deeply, there's nothing that prevents us from adding these nice features to an AOSP ROM, for instance CyanogenMod 9.
Hence why, Galaxy S3, once running CyanogenMod 9, will profit from a community effort started recently to bring manufacturers' features to all CM9-enabled devices. This can include actions triggered by motion, and other features so-called "natural".
You can find out more details at http://opendesign.blamesamsung.org/. Details on specific features, as well as the ability for everyone to request this kind of features, will be available on May 10th.
I can only thank once more people that will help Team Hacksung and CyanogenMod getting a Galaxy S III, to help all CyanogenMod 9 devices.

So true, this was an inspired moment We will give you more details soon. I'm pretty sure you will all like it. But we will need more peeps to help. This won't be done by xplodwild alone. this is a community work. Once done, this will revolution the world of mobile and of every CM9 maintained phone. xplodwild linked the website, it's still under developement, but you learn soon what it is .
And to answer CoNsPiRiSiZe, touchwiz always deceived us. I don't see why it would change now. A proverb says : "You don't have to taste **** to know it taste like ****".

I was under the impression that teamhacksung is at odds with Samsung
All i see on twitter feeds are disgruntle posts about not having access to the source
Hi Guys,
SamMobile Tweet Samsung has stopped developement for the Galaxy SII and Galaxy Note.. No Android update
Oh well, kinda expected for this to happen.
Unfortunately with the Exynos code unavailable, most likely community development will also die down bit by bit.
What we want is an OFFICIAL statement regarding the issue, not this.
Sammobile was the one to say that 4.2.2 would be last on s2.
Now they say something different
My point - dun try until its official
I doubt the thieves and liars over at Samsung will even have the balls to post an official statement. They will just remain silent.
But we will remember this. 4.2 came out on 13 November 2012. 4.2.2 on 11 February 2013. So NOT #2years.
SGS IV now out, what you expected?! They should develop new software for new phones and new phones. I know SGS II the most complete phone in the world (in my opinion) but this is business
Waiting for my Nexus 7 2013 to arrive and i'll keep my SGS2 only for phone calls, sms and tehering to N7 if needed. Then i'll wait for Nexus 5 or something similar. Never going to buy a Samsung device again.
Even if they did, it could be that theyll release exynos source code now..
Costum Roms where better anyway

They had to explain why Galaxy S wasn't getting ICS:
Official statement:
http://samsungtomorrow.com/2043
Some translation on
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_explains_why_galaxy_s_and_tab_70_wont_get_android_ics-news-3567.php
So they will have to jump on and explain the issue if Galaxy SII is staying on 4.1.2. Honestly, any reason they could give will be ridiculous and they will probably damage their image more in terms of money that what they would waste developing a 4.3 update and stopping there.
Also, actually both Galaxy SII and Nexus S started on 2.3 and Nexus S died on 4.1.2. If Galaxy SII gets abandoned at 4.1.2 also, Samsung will lose a great chance to overcome a Nexus in terms of updates (and if Samsung seeks for something, its for statements such as those).
In any logical terms killing Galaxy S2 would damage Samsung for than updating it..
I think that after finding all the bugs on there HW, couple of mounth ago, they won't publish there cpu code because there must be so much holes ' bus and traps that there reputaion will damge even more
Well it was nice while it lasted. I'm grateful to Gokhanmoral, Chainfire, the Cyanogenmod team and all the other dedicated developers that enriched our SII experience for these past two years.
With the promising Nexus 5 around the corner I'll be looking forward to see more from y'all!
If Samsung don't release a new update for S2, they will buy more new devices. It is all about business not because our S2 isn't capable to run (4.3). I think Nexus is a best alternative to Samsung.
Couldn't understand

It's one of the most sold android devices out there, even if its 2 years-old.
Imho the most sold (S2, S3, Notes) should get auto-support, that would mean covering like 50-60% of people alone

Huge amounts of users doesn't mean that anyone who has worked with them is getting really tired of them being a pain in the ass.
These devices being marked for CM10.1.3 stable simply because they had "lots of users" and not because they were actually stable is actually one of the contributing factors to why most of the former Exynos4 maintainer team were involved with founding Omni.
I got Omni running on I9100 and N7000.
On both these devices I had to replace the kernel with a CM kernel I built from sources to get it to boot (the kernel was too small compared to what it should be). Also I had to replace the updater script and binary since the installation halted with an error about missing file_contexts.
I'm no expert on these things but thru trial and error I finally managed to get it running.
What doesn't work:
WIFI, BT, GPS, DATA, INTERNAL NOR EXTERNAL STORAGE
The rest is ok. The camera works but you cant use it since it requires storage.
GSM calls work ok. The network is correctly detected and the data transmission type is there too but data doesn't work (might be as simple as editing apns). I briefly went thru the settings and options, all of them seem to be working ok.
I cherrypicked multiwindow and it works pretty good!
I'll try to get things to work but I'm slowly out of ideas. If only I could get some hints from @Entropy512 or @XpLoDWilD, they must know what could be the cause Maybe it's something with the kernel image on s2/note which has the recovery inside it as well?
BTW. I used modified CM device trees and edited them accordingly to match the Omni specs.

Thanks for the input Entropy
I understand that the "Exynos 4" pair of words already remembers you (devs that suffered them) the worst, but.. think that even after that, both starting facts are still true (They ocupy an high % of the android share and most of the people with them are really happy and didn't switch to another device yet, since they're still enough for most of the stuff). With this I mean, if omni objective is to gather android %, it is a must even if its still an inferno working with this.
I understand that the "auto-stable" move on CM wasn't correct at all. and I'm not asking for such a thing here, jut support.. but it's not a lie that we can't ask you to suffer with exynos again so it will depend on ya all .
Would like to see this ROM on i9100 too
+1 for Ommi in I9100
I hope there shall be an OmniROM for i9100. Hope that does not bring too much pain to the devs, as most of the hard work for Exynos4 is already completed. I might be mistaken, but thanks to the team we already have open source cam and sound. Further, there is not so much difference with i9300/Note2 in terms of CPU/GPU which may get further official updates from samsung. IMHO it is important to keep the results of all that dev hardwork on exynos4 platform and carry them forward to Omnirom, not just loose it as CM support for this device will most probably be dropped.

With this news, I am scared that our beloved device will be forgotten by cyanogenmod too. Android L is such a huge upgrade and I cant wait to get it on my S2. Hopefully CM wont drop the official support!
Luckily CM is not the only custom rom in the world
Yeah, but they all are derived from CM sources aren't they?? Correct me if i am mistaken. Although I am more than optimistic that S II will get it, because Galaxy S still gets official support, and S II is miles better than S1.
You are right about CM sources.
SII has exynos CPU?? Then... So you can understand why S1 still has official support.
Sources are different from CM, OMNI and SlimRom
Omni is not using any CM sources, I think.... I hope they can give us an L build... That would be great...

Because S2 has Exynos chipset which has closed sources, so can't be made to work with new versions of Android.
S1 chipset is open sourced and easier to port new roms to. Same with S3.
Then how come we have Android kitkat on our S2? Who made drivers and stuff ?

Unfortunately, You might not get your hands on it with an S2... Most Custom ROMs are dropping support for i9100/N7000... CM is probably dropping support, though not confirmed I think... AFAIK Omni is surely dropping support... And PA as well...
But, you know... We can't expect the future.. Maybe some talented devs could help us get L.. Who knows ?

Yeah, I know, I come a couple weeks later... But wanted to answer the question.
CM doesn't use Samsung's binary blobs (or drivers), because it's unknown how to communicate with those, so someone had to do some reverse engineering and create new blobs that try to emulate as close as possible the behaviour of Samsung blobs, sometimes grabbing the Nexus one and adjusting things here and there. Thing is that because of not knowing the complete specifications of the Exynos SOC, these new drivers will never be as optimized as Samsung's, and will also be heavily buggy (that's why some games don't even work in the i9100 CM).
It's no fault of the developers, tho, I'm actually impressed on how good they turned out to be, given the difficulties, but this makes development really hard and the CM experience lacking, compared to other phones. Mind you, with all this in mind, I have been using CM in my S2 for years now, can't stand the laggy feel of Stock Touchwiz, even if it has better drivers.

EXACTLY!!! And one of the devs has done it albeit with major bugs but AFAIK he has left the 9500 development without even sharing the link!! And last year we got the HUGE update (Lollipop) in less than a month, by the end of Nov. However now, it's more thn 2 months M has been released and altough it's a relatively small update compared to L, nobody has done it. I hope the devs will soon turn off their hibernation mode and get on track. We know this isn't their job, but they can do it! Our devs are the best!!

EXACTLY!!! And one of the devs has done it albeit with major bugs but AFAIK he has left the 9500 development without even sharing the link!! It's because you got a ****ty device with a ****ty chip and no documentation on the chip. Same story with the S5, S6, S6edge etc. Exynos sucks. So it's 10 times harder to develop a rom for you device.

I know it is much harder and I got a $#itty device, but if I knew these stuff back then, I'd rather die than get 9500. However, done is done, you can't get back infortunately :crying:
But the fact that it is already partially developed is burning me cause it's not being released to the public. Furthermore, N3 exy also has CM13 and released to the public even though it has a slight laggy touch input bug

There is no point at all releasing a rom that is far from usable. But you just have to be patient. There probably will be a working version eventually:

Thanks man! Just contacted him btw and asked if he could give me a link to download it.
@Azar_98
It isn't even released yet. You can track GearCM's GitHub and see what changes are made for our device-tree, rather than request a blind build.
