How to turn off screen-wake for new incoming messages? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I actually like the stock SMS app of the LG G2....problem is, it always wakes up the screen, when a new message arrives. Is there a way to avoid that? The notification sound or vibrate should be enough for that.
I know, I could substitute the app with Handcent, Hangout or any other 3rd party app, but that shouldn't be necessary.

Bump... Did anyone figure that one out?

If you go into settings in the SMS app under notification, there are options to disable new message pop up and preview contents when message is received. Is that what you're looking for?

That's not what what he wants... read his post.
If you go to the Energy ROM thread in the Tmobile development section.. I posted a modified Messaging app that does not turn on the screen. I'm sure it'll work fine for any GSM based LG2... the 802 or the ATT model.

My G2 doesn't do that. LS980.

Is it the same app, just without screen light up? Or a third party app? What I also don't like in the stock messaging app, is that you can't select multiple threads to delete them, only one by one. Did you solve that problem also? Thanks!

Old thread, but i found a way now. There's an option for that in G2 Settings via Xposed. Works like a charm!

Do a long hold on the picture message and it will give you option to save to SD card
I already know that. But some pic messages don't show up and show up as a download button. No matter what I do I cannot get the pic
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
try using handcent sms. long hold and click copy attached to sdcard or view the pic.
in your stock android messenger click menu and uncheck notification so you don't get a notification from the stock messenger and handcent sms.
Just tried handcent sms. Still can't download the pics

I had this problem since my G1. Happened on my N1, but its yet to happen on my G2. I never found a way to download the stuck pics. I ended up just having to ask the person if they could resend.

GingerBlur messaging

Is there any way to go back to the way it looked before? (text in bubbles)

Gingerblur deletes the Moto messaging app and replaces it with the stock android one. The two ways to get back to bubbles that I know of are to go into the .zip bloatware file and find what you're looking for, or you can download a third party messaging app (I recommend Handcent) that will do it for you.
That's great app, thanks.
Go SMS Plus is a great alternative as well.

I love go sms pro

+1 for Go SMS
YUP -- I tried both Handcent and GO Sms based on the referrals in this thread. I must asy.. GO SMS PRO was the handsdown winner... very customizable, fancy transitions, ease of set-up, no lag, and fast sync with my facebook contacts. Good stuff.

SMS conversation view

Running
UNITY 3.1/V4_Kernel
Silly question.. but how do I change SMS to look like a conversation? Right now it shows all received on top and all sent on bottom within one contact... It looks like this:
rec1
rec3
sent0
sent2
I want it to look like:
sent0
rec1
sent2
rec1
Get GoSMS from the market. Wonderful App.
Thank...
One more question.. How do I stop it from showing me 2 notifications (the one from stock SMS and the one from another app that I downloaded (like goSMS))

Go to your Stock sms and disable its notifications through the settings menu.

Screen wake on incoming SMS?

Hey everyone, anyone know if there is an app that wakes the screen on incoming text? I'm always on silent mode at work and need a way to know when I get a text.
I looked and couldn't find anything that looked like it.
I'm using paranoidandroid 1.9.7 rom if that makes a difference.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Can someone move this to the app forum, my bad, forgot to switch when posting
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 4g using xda premium
I believe go sms has that option your looking for
Also, MIUI defaults this way. You may not want to change ROMs, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
I will check out go sms. I had handcent before which did it too but there are too many features built into it that I don't want, but I like the native app because it's simple and looks nice.
And thanks for the suggestion.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 4g
I prefer to use the native app on my phone, and I often have my phone on silent as well, so I use Tasker + the Secure Settings plugin to wake my device when I receive an SMS.

Does Lightflow work on this device?

Hey everyone! Got my G2 today. Got it rooted in like 5 mins. Almost done setting it up. One thing I can not seem to make work is Lightflow. It's kinda weird I've done everything I normally do. It's set up the same way as my Nexus 4. LED is enabled. I've tried unchecking all the stock system LED'S etc. Stock works. I've Googled it already and it doesn't seem like any kind of known issue. Accessibility is turned on. Root enabled. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I love Lightflow.

Yes, it does work. However, it took a while for me to figure out the proper configuration. You must leave the G2's stock LED notifications enabled, but disable all the individual apps/notifications (incoming call, missed call, etc) except for the one labeled "Downloaded apps" (make sure that one is enabled/ticked).
In Lightflow's settings, have "root mode", and "Run in foreground" enabled. Seems that "Nexus 5 force LED reset" is enabled by default, so I left that alone. "Reduce wake" is optional...seems to work either way.
For some apps to work properly (Like Facebook Messenger) you must have "Accessibility Services" enabled for Lightflow as well.
I think that should do it.

This seems reasonable enough. The only question I have is that I don’t see a "downloaded apps" option under the LED settings "see screenshot" is it located somewhere else?

Hmm, well I'm on the Verizon variant, so maybe that option isn't available on yours...? It's underneath the other notifications...
Maybe try some of these troubleshooting steps.

Dang. Have you been updated, or was it that way from the beginning? I'm on the T-Mobile variant. Thanks for the help anyway. Maybe someone else will chime in on this too.

On the latest JB update. Not sure if it was that way before the update, since I did the update the day I got the phone (before rooting or installing any apps).
Hopefully someone else can help you.
