Hey everyone, anyone know if there is an app that wakes the screen on incoming text? I'm always on silent mode at work and need a way to know when I get a text.
I looked and couldn't find anything that looked like it.
I'm using paranoidandroid 1.9.7 rom if that makes a difference.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Can someone move this to the app forum, my bad, forgot to switch when posting

I believe go sms has that option your looking for
Also, MIUI defaults this way. You may not want to change ROMs, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
I will check out go sms. I had handcent before which did it too but there are too many features built into it that I don't want, but I like the native app because it's simple and looks nice.
And thanks for the suggestion.

I prefer to use the native app on my phone, and I often have my phone on silent as well, so I use Tasker + the Secure Settings plugin to wake my device when I receive an SMS.

I don't know if this is a option already, but is there an app or could someone make a app that used sound to remind you of a missed call or txt, something that's not annoying maybe even make it vibrate and it would give you the option to choose the notification time period (5min 10min etc.) that would seem to be a reasonable alternative to a notification Light.....if this exsist forgive me this is my first droid phone

Search the market. There are plenty of apps that do this.
I have an issue sending and receiving picture messages. Even when its one pic it shows up as a slideshow like when you sending multiple pics in one message. It doesnt even allow me to save pics because it shows up as a slide show anyone have any advice?
I have the same issue, not sure why it does that tho. Kinda wish I could change it....
Get handsent sms app or is it spelled handcent. Try both. Slideshow is the new thing on all htc devices.
The app doesnt have slideshow.

to save the pics, hold (press) right beside the pic and a pop-up should appear to copy files to sd card
I have been using android since day one of course i know to hold to save. It doesnt allow it because its a slide show. and i dont like handcent i prefer stock app. My nexus one never had this issue.
Buy auto save mms, awesome app

It's a known issue. There's a topic about it on the T-Mobile forums. T-Mobile had said that they are aware of the issue and are working on it. *shrug*

I don't get how that can get messed up in vanilla android. Seems the g2 has some interesting bugs.

Press and hold "NEXT" to the picture. It should pop up with an menu saying lock message, view sideshow ,copy attached to sd card, call ,forward ,view message details.
now if that doesnt work for you then idk because i never had that problem with any android.
^ what he said to be more clear
you dont hold the play button or the pic you tap and hold the text box where the pic is in and it will bring up the option
I have the same slide show issue, which is really annoying, but holding next to the picture defiantly allows you to save to sd card, but who wants to save every mms to sd just to view full screen? i know I dont, never had this problem with my N1
You guys are right I'm the idiot I was holding the slideshow pic like not the side. Never had this before with my other phone just hold the pic. The slideshow thing is annoying though.

ask the person to send it to your email, alot of people have email on their phones now a days. I know it isnt a fix but it does help
This also really bugs me. Im pretty OCD about things like that, and the only real solution is to use handscent which to me just isnt quit as nice as sticking with the stock app. I dont plan on rooting until 2.3, so maybe this can be fixed via rom?
I haven't experienced this problem. I hope I dont later on either.
first, i noticed something that was really important to me and that was that you cant copy past a part of an sms like you could with the gs3.
it sucks because it was something i always bragged about to iphone users who had to copy the entire sms. if you guys have any ideas on how to be able to just copy a part of the texts like a home address and stuff.
second, all share control isnt working anymore which i understand considering theyre pushing watchon, however watch on doesnt have a track pad feature that can control the mouse on the samsung tv that you need when browsing the web.
is there any other app that has that feature or an add-on for watch on that would add that feature?
thanks for the help
no one know?
does no one know of any substitutes for these features?
I use goSMS and you can only copy entire message too. Know it doesn't help but might save you from trying it.

you can use an ugly hack to copy parts of messages - tap and hold the message, pick "forward", then use the normal selection controls to select and copy the parts of text you want.

i have been using the translate feature to do it but i was hoping to find a way not to have to do those kind of detours

both in texts and contacts page
I actually like the stock SMS app of the LG G2....problem is, it always wakes up the screen, when a new message arrives. Is there a way to avoid that? The notification sound or vibrate should be enough for that.
I know, I could substitute the app with Handcent, Hangout or any other 3rd party app, but that shouldn't be necessary.
Bump... Did anyone figure that one out?

If you go into settings in the SMS app under notification, there are options to disable new message pop up and preview contents when message is received. Is that what you're looking for?
That's not what what he wants... read his post.
If you go to the Energy ROM thread in the Tmobile development section.. I posted a modified Messaging app that does not turn on the screen. I'm sure it'll work fine for any GSM based LG2... the 802 or the ATT model.
My G2 doesn't do that. LS980.

Is it the same app, just without screen light up? Or a third party app? What I also don't like in the stock messaging app, is that you can't select multiple threads to delete them, only one by one. Did you solve that problem also? Thanks!

Old thread, but i found a way now. There's an option for that in G2 Settings via Xposed. Works like a charm!

would u like to share it???? as i am also having the same issue
Isn't there a way to stop the screen from turning on whenever texts are received by using a tool like Root Browser to edit a config file somewhere? I thought I remember reading that somewhere but now can't find the thread where I saw that (I searched this site and google in general).
Thanks.
Eric
You need root to do so, here is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785118
The Wanam module in Xposed can also do this
My screen doesn't come on when I get texts. I swear that I set it up that way from the start but I'll be darned if I can find the setting for you now.
