Hi everyone - thanks in advance for your help.
I have tried to get 4.4 paranoid android running on my nexus 4 - however, CWM is not working (can't enter recovery, nor can I flash it in ROM Manager -- it says "an error occurred while flashing your recovery"), and I do not have any of the google apps.
I have not gone into this stuff for many years (did it on an old xperia), but unfortunately got into this whole mess when I bought this nexus which I didn't realize until after was rooted. Anyhow, can someone please provide a link with a straight-forward step-by-step process for how I can get this phone working again, back to stock, with google apps and everything? In simple terms would be great, from start to finish.
I really do apologize in advance for my amateur knowledge coming into this. In essence, I am simply trying to get around issues that came up after having bought a rooted nexus 4. But now in flashing Paranoid Android CWM won't work and I can't flash any google apps as a result.
Thank you, thank you, and thank you.
Hello,
Actually, rooting yor phone is not the problem, btw you can check this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2534160 to back your n4 to stock 4.4.
You will need to unlock your bootloader before, however it is simple and the instructions is on the link too.

The bootloader is actually unlocked. Thank you for the link though, I will give it a whirl.

Hi guys.
First off, just got my hands on a Nexus 4 from T-Mobile. Got it at an awesome $45. You can't imagine the ecstasy I experienced when it got here and it was 16 GB. Going from my LG Optimus T to this is mind blowing.
Now, after researching, I'm at a standstill. According to every search I've made on this website, and on Google, the only way to root a Nexus running 4.2.2 is to unlock the boot loader. That's my first problem. I've found no guide through my searching that gave me a solid way to unlock it. Could someone link me to one?
Second, the rooting process. I've heard that it, as well, has no one solid way to be done on 4.2.2. Again, any help or links would be appreciated.
I can't wait to get a custom kernel and Cyanogenmod running on this. This is my Android dream come true.

Weird! We'll here's a link for you!
Use the nexus toolkit... While 4.2.2 isn't listed, select 4.2.1... It works.
Takes all of 2 minutes.

Thanks for the quick reply, guys! Does it root and unlock the bootloader?

rooting any nexus device is the same. in a nutshell..
1. this one line typed into fastboot unlocks the bootloader.. fastboot oem unlock. then press yes on the device when the menu pops up.
2. fastboot flash a custom recovery, cwm or twrp.
3. flash either the su binaries or a custom rom with your new recovery.
4. reboot and profit.
thats the right way to root any nexus, on any version of android, even 4.2.2. there do exist different root toolkits, but i dont recommend them. they have their own issues plus you learn zilch.

Right. Duh. I forgot that I also read that the bootloader doesn't depend on whether or not you updated to 4.2.2. I'm blonde, you'll have to forgive me. Or not. Also, the Google link. That didn't help. That thread had dead links, so it's irrelevant.
Hey guys, I'm a bit (and by bit I mean huge) noob since I just switched to Android about 20 days ago. I'm looking to flash a custom ROM on my phone, and I'm looking to keep the awesome battery life the phone brings. I was looking at OmniROM, and that one got my attention since it seems to be stable, clean and most battery efficient (correct me if wrong please!)
However, I have no clue how to proceed. My phone is rooted already, but some tutorials I was reading were for the D802 and required a MicroSD slot.
Can anyone lend me a hand? It'd be hugely appreciated

First off you need to install TWRP recovery or CM recovery. Once those are complete you can continue on. Which I can help once you get there.

Done. I have installed TWRP and went ahead and downloaded the OmniROM file. What is next?
Thanks, by the way

This is a link to the second post of the omni rom thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47236432&postcount=2 . It gives step by step instructions on how to install using TWRP. This method is usually the same for all ROMs
Hi everyone!
I'm new so bear with me, please.
I have an AT&T S4 that had been unlocked even though I use it on AT&T. I rooted my device specifically to remove bloatware that came with it. Which I did. Eventually though I grew wary and decided I wanted to take everything back to stock like it was when I first got the phone. Didn't have any luck. After some research on here I found that I needed to flash it to NB1 using Odin and that's what I did. The phone booted fine, setup fine and even began updating apps. My problem is that it won't let me update to NJ4 again. The Software updater claims that there is no updates available when I know clearly there is. I'm not sure what I may have done wrong but I could use any help that anyone is willing to provide.
P.S. I rooted using Towelroot v3 following this method in this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/how-to-root-i337ucufnj4-4-4-4-11-13-2014-t2939553/post56738573#post56738573
Thanks in advance!
Troubleshooting section of first post of the thread you linked has steps to manually update to NJ4
i followed the guide mentioned .. I had to sideload the update as OTA was not detected by the phone
Now everything is working like a charm
OP, try this and all will be good

Thanks for the replies everyone, some very helpful information. Ironically, it seemed to have fixed itself this morning. I put it in it's usual place on the nightstand and when I awoke this morning, the notification was there and it successfully updated to 4.4.4 and everything seems to be going smoothly.
Thanks again for the quick replies. Should I ever need additional assistance I now know what forum I can turn to.
Hey guys.
I am not that new in the whole rooting "scene" but it seems that I am unable to find a proper guide for rooting my (updated) phone. Every guide I have found, not only in this site, is outdated for like a year or so or just for older versions of the firmware, and if there is one thats for D802H(international model, I'm from Greece) it's probably in really bad english or directed towards pros. I rooted my G2 when I got it last year but decided to unroot because of some problems with the screen so I could use my warranty and haven't rerooted since. So it would be really helpful if any of you could point me in a certain guide or just run me through the whole process of rooting my phone, what to download, what to do to my phone, the recoveries etc. I would really like to use Cyanogen Mod or a G3 mod. Certainly, my choice for these two is because they look awesome. If you have any other rom on your mind that might be better than these, please dont hesitate from telling me. I really need all the help I can get, last time I got stuck on a boot loop and didn't know what to do for many hours before I reflashed to stock. So basically I would like a root guide ( found one from a member called somboons, seemed nice but wasn't really thorough as to whether I should wipe all data or just wipe dalvik cache and really wasn't noob-friendly) and a link to a ROM download page with a guide for flashing it. Not really into kernels, so if you could suggest a different one from stock that provides better battery life etc. that would be great. Any other info that you feel I should know will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys and sorry for the trouble I'm putting you,
George.
P.S.: Would like to avoid wiping data if at all possible.

Oh well that was easy, thanks man. Rooted succesfully, installed SU and now have TWRP. What about the ROM? For CM, should I just go in their site and pick one for my phone? Is a release here that's stable?

if CM11 .. try the latest Milestone ... as for CM12, it is still alpha stage, so try at your own risk

Guys, I know the thread is kinda old, but I gotta give it a try as I too want to revive my atrix 4g
I tried to flash CM11 from the original post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/atrix-4g/development/rom-cm-11-android-4-4-4-atrix-bigpart-t2847281), however, when I perform "FASTBOOT flash recovery recovery_olympus_kitkat_bigpart_finalv2.img", the "Android Recovery" crashes when selected from the menu and I get stuck in a loop where it tries to initialize the option unsuccessfully. Can you please shed some light?? I`ve already tried flashing the hporsche32 recovery and still no success...it`s becoming a bit frustrating.
My phone is a bell atrix D00, already rooted and unlocked. I am currently using the NottachTrix rom, and it installed fine from my original cwm-based recovery (v5.0.2.7-atrix5).
The last attempt I made was trying to install the zip from my previously installed and reliable recovery (v5.0.2.7-atrix5), but it fails with "some symlinks failed"...I'm guessing it is due to not having used the bigpart recovery.

Hey guys, first of all, thank you Z and P! my atrix is now revived and I can enjoy it once more! what a great job. So far, really stable (although the screen don't light up until de end of some calls). Battery is doing great!
After some reasearch I found out I should be using the hporch32 recovery. Turns out I also needed to flash the hporch32 boot with "fastboot flash boot boot_olympus_kitkat_bigpart_hporch32_finalv2". I know it was silly, but the guides don't really cover this situation....
Anyways, thank you very much for this gift! Hope this helps other noobs!
