Need help installing CWMR - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Been staring at the CWMR thread for a while and I consider myself pretty wellversed in most things when it comes to messing with my phone, but the instructions seem to be written in another language.
Can anyone break it down in simpler terms what one does to install CWM on a VS980?

Install flashify from market and install cwm from flashify

[Q] TWRP or CWM recovery

I have TWRP 2.0 on both my Kindle Fire and Evo 3D. I'm new to rooting and have yet to use CWM recovery. Can anyone explain what is the difference and why it would be better to use one over the other. Thanks.
use this to install cwm

Recoveries - opinions

Just out of curiosity what would everyone say is the best recovery? What would be the most versatile and easiest to use?

CWM is my favorite. Always works, never had troubles with it. Not a fan of touch recoveries.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
CWM is by far the easiest and the best recovery you could have.

Twrp is what I've been using for as long as I can remember. Never had an issue

twrp! hands down!
I've never used TWRP before I got my S4 but I'm loving it~! Version 2.5.0.2 works very well.
Philz Touch hands down. Customizable UI, advanced features, multi zips, love it :good:

Is oudhs considered cwm? It does have touch feature but you can use buttons if you prefer.
Asking if people prefer twrp vs cwm is like asking do you prefer blondes or brunettes.

Redheads.
Oh...and 100% TWRP for me.
I had never used TWRP before this phone but I am loving it. Easy to use. Idiot proof. can flash multiple zips and lets you wipe only the partitions you want. And just plain looks great too.
Official CWM for jfltespr is available through ROM Manager now, so I'm going to flash and see how it goes.
Official CWM is no bueno for now. 50/50 chance whether it'll flash a zip
Flashing anything with rom manager is definitely my last choice.
I use twrp or cwm no diff to me. I guess I lean toward twrp since goo manager actually works.
twrp is perfect except when I constantly have to pull my battery because it freezes on the title screen and I cracked my case because I'm frequently needing to remove it in order to restart the phone.

TWRP Backup

So I made a complete backup with twrp today. My question is why do they give you the option to backup your recovery? Isn't twrp your recovery? If I was to backup from that stock backup would I be replacing twrp? What kind of inception is this lol.
Thanks.

I wonder the same thing but maybe it's if you flash cwm you can flash back to twrp but I tried to flash to cwm the other day and it said it was my recovery but would only boot into twrp. So I pretty much have no answer to your question, just more questions.

You added to my question. Also its interesting what you said. I prefer twrp over cwm. How did you flash cwm?

I used flashify. Can adb push too. I prefer CWM.

Because you just never know how badly you are going to screw up. Besides, you can check it off the list if you don't feel like it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is. If I mess up my phone that bad that I damage the recovery then the backup I made is useless no? If I messed up my twrp recovery then the backup I made of everything can't be flashed anyway.

No, because you backup your perfectly good system BEFORE you screw around with it. It's your safety net.

Yeah I understand that. But if I obliterated my recovery how would I even go about using my good backup? I would have no way to flash it.

Since TWRP is skinnable and otherwise customizable, I'm going to assume the thought was that the backup saved your customization within TWRP.

Need Some Help Please!

Im having a huge issue getting TWRP 2.7.0.1 or any version of TWRP to install. I am used to flashing HTC style and now im just confused and getting frustrated- i used flashify and downloaded the zip and extracted the img, flashed and rebooted- when the phone reboots i get an error message that is like 3 lines long in either red or white text. Any help would be amazing, thanks

if you are on kitkat you cannot use flashify to install recovery, you need to use AutoRec
Which file?

actually we used to be able to use flashify with most of the 4.2 firmwares of g2, the kitkat update overcomplicated a lot of things for us here but we are still going strong
Yeah ive been doing a lot of research and I'm amazed at how many obstacles y'all have overcame- so glad that I'm apart of the community now! One more question that I havent quite found a definite answer for- now that im rooted, have TWRP 2.7.0.1 and have downloaded a rom/gapps on phone... Do I just reboot to recovery, backup/wipe, install rom and then gapps and reboot system and thats it? Or will I be soft bricked... Thanks in advance for any info

Which rom to be more specific ?
Always try reading the 1st page of every thread, then look back for at least 4-5 last pages to see if there were any issues.
For non stock roms you would require to flash "aosp kk baseband" by dr87
Also watch the thread if your variant is actually supported.
New, updated roms(non stock) are also maybe updated to 4.4.2 sources and don't require the upper "aosp kk baseband" but you will learn how and why in no matter of time, cheers
I troll the OP/threads and Google for hours and hours before finally posting a question. Going from the Rezound to the G2 is a massive difference in procedures lol added a pic of the zip i was thinking about flashing. Thanks

Favorite Recovery?

I wanted to make this to see everyone's opinion on the current recoveries. CWM, TWRP, Philz touch, safestrap, etc. Just put what you think is the "best" recovery in your opinion. And explain, if you'd like.

Agreed. Philz looks very cool as well but I haven't had the chance to use it yet. And you say Theme-able. How would I go about changing the theme?

PhilZ is basically CWM with more options. I don't like the way they're structured. Not that they're bad, just not for me.
TWRP... first smart phone was the droid 4 which used safe strap so it's just what I'm used to...

Twrp I used Cwm and philz before, Cwm mod was simple but I didn't know what I was doing most the time other than put rom on sd erase install new rom, then philz which I learned how to use aroma what some of the options were, then Twrp is easy and super convenient.. Because of the interface I prefer to sideload roms and other packages, and I feel like I have more control over the device

Agreed with all of the above! Haven't themed it myself, but TWRP I find is more intuitive to use than CWM.
