I have a choice of like 2-3 roms Common we need more development the g2 is a great phone! We need to get the word out!!!
Why don't you learn to develop yourself? Problem solved. Or do some research and learn to flash a d802 rom plus at&t kernel on the d800 instead of complaining. Not trying to be rube but just saying.

Just a thought to the mods the google edition roms seem to be taking over from the Samsung roms in the s4 section at the moment. Would it maybe be a good idea to open a sub thread for google edition roms, kernels and mods? Might save some confusion for noobs. Just a thought anyway
I'm a noob there's so many roms out there I'm not sure what to do which ones to go for

No auto update yet. But in theory it should be possible!
Me Gusta!
i dont think the mods have seen this yet. dont want anyone to end up with an expensive paperweight coz if you dirty flash over a touchwizz rom bad bad stuff happens and its getting full in the forum now of google 4.2.2 and 4.3 roms
As long as you're flashing a I9505 rom on a I9505 device you won't brick your phone, regardless of whether it's CM, GE or TW. Not too sure what you mean by dirty flash, I'm presuming not carrying out a full wipe, this might cause issues but won't brick a phone. The forums are already fragmented enough and noobs really should be reading before they flash anything.

by dirty flash i mean the lazy way and not wiping and yes this can cause soft bricks which make people panic and i fully agree that people should read but i think we can all agree that the forums are full of people that dont read. at the moment in my opinion for a noob it might be a bit confronting and confusing to see all these options. it was just an idea for the mods anyway to try and help

Hey everyone!
So I'm finally going into a Sprint store later today to pick up the GS4. I'll be coming from HTC and I know that there are some differences between the two companies when it comes to rooting. I've read a bit about ODIN, but I'm not really sure what it is or if its even necessary, can anyone explain it to me? Also, what are your recommendations on Roms/Kernels that are out right now, or do you think that stock is currently the best experience?
Thanks for the help everyone.
You need Odin to root. Check out the video by QBking 77 that is stickied on android development section. It works for both MDL and MF9 (latest OTA).
And when it comes to the "best ROM" there is no answer as all the Roms have there great attributes. So I recommend you take your time and read the description of various Roms and find one that catches your attention. Flash it and see if you like it.

And do try the stock ROM to see if you like it. Personally, I like some of the features that Samsung has included in TW enough to make me want to stick with the stock (rooted) ROM for now, with a few mods installed.

I also came from the og evo.
Odin is an application that helps flash recovery, firmware, modems, etc.
The first thing I noticed is the difference between sense and touchwiz. It can be overwhelming at first but I would recommend sticking with touchwiz based roms for a little before trying aosp.
I personally use forcerom. It now has aroma which is great to pick and choose mods and themes.

I am not sure exactly when this phone was released for ATT USA. I am guessing it was not long ago, judging by the forums.
My wishlist item is a Stock D800 based, deodexed rom. (vs the D802 based)
4 Way Reboot.
Tethering enabled.
Anyone else feel the same way? If I were a dev, I would do this myself and share it, but I am not. And even if it didn't come with the 4way reboot and tethering enabled, there are other solutions for these.
Thanks.
Hmm all that's available with clean room xe except the base

Right. I'd prefer to stay on the D800 base. I had a previous issue because I installed a TWRP version that changed the kernel to a d802. Was fine until I got into a problem with the phone and wanted to return to stock....that wouldn't work because the phone was reporting both D800 and D80210 or whatever and would then report incorrect version and abort. Never got it fixed and eventually bricked the phone trying. Fortunately it bricked so bad and was only my third day with it....the store replaced it for me. Don't want to repeat
I honor your wishes and wants, but do you realize that you are in dev forum? You can post your wants in general section.

My apologies for the incorrect section. I will be expecting an email from a moderator that they have moved it. I will be more careful in the future.
Thanks
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483043 but it is D802 build. It won't report as D802 since the build prop has all the D800 entries. Has everything you are looking for.
Or
You can download the full stock ROM and deodex it yourself and what options you want. You don't need to a be dev to do that, just a hacker or moder.
My wishlist is a million bucks...wanna help with that

I am probably just being paranoid about the D802 thing and my problem most likely happened due to me using the twrp install that changes the kernel to a D802 kernel. I no longer not nor ever will touch that one again
As to the $Million, I probably have a better chance of deodexing myself than that happening.
Hello,
I've been on the forums for awhile but never posted. I tried searching but hadn't found a thread for it yet. Would it be possible to port the Sailfish OS from Jolla to the LG G2? The hardware adaptation development kit has been released by Jolla. I would try it myself but have no programming experience whatsoever. Just curious! Thanks!
Would also like to know this

I would guess that we would need to have an unlocked bootloader. I may be wrong but I wouldn't be holding my breath.

According to the Jolla guide for the build (I'd post links, but I'm unable to yet) all that's needed for an install is a phone that has official CM 10.1.x releases. Like I said, I have no programming experience so I don't know how feasible the build would be for our phone. I have high hopes for it though because the launcher is great and the interface looks fantastic.
If we did it would be unstable atleast on my variant we don't even have sound with a 24a baseband and if were 24a everything it just bootloops

Hello. I am new to the V20 but not to Android nor XDA. I live in Australia and I'm looking at using custom roms. I wanted to know the limitations to this model. Can I flash other variant roms (T-Mobile/Verizon/Sprint/etc/etc) on the US996 model and then just flash the suitable kernel and modem for my device, or is it more complicated than that? - I ask this coming recently from Samsung Note series where doing what I said is generally possible.
I am also looking at potentially bringing a new ROM to this device as I have previously compiled AOSP roms for Samsung devices and looking to try something new.
Thanks guys

pretty sure you can only flash us996 roms and theres like one out there, Weta. I flashed it and it was nice but I ended up just going back to the stock LG rooted rom. there's really nothing out there for the 996 which sucks bc i bought it since its unlocked and figured it would have most development... clearly I was wrong! lol
