[Q] 16gb flash on 32gb device wrong PIT? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've inherited a phone that looks like someone has tried to flash a 16gb firmware on a 32gb phone.....
Symptoms are at boot the phone immediately shows 'process system isn't responding (may not be exact wording) stop or wait'
If I choose wait I can get into Settings which shows Total Space of 16GB but Available Space 25.xx GB (I think it's 25.64).
I can't get into Status at All
Looking at the Download screen gets this.......

The phone usually reboots after about 10 seconds while in Settings
My guess is someone tried to 16gb PIT it and in doing so has broken root or swap areas?
Ideas?

Just to make life more fun I can't access the device via adb as it's not authorised and I'm not getting tye popup (I assume because system process has hung) also my files isn't there so very stucksville unless anyone has some ideas
Help (in a plaintive voice)

These two things sound exactly like what I had happening on my phone, an issue which I now believe may have been triggered by trying to downgrade too far (MJ7 to MI7), causing modem issues. I would also get immediate system process not responding and a reboot (usually 30 to 60 seconds).
You might find a solution in one of these two threads where people have reported similar issues: one, two.

Tried those ideas with no success.
Has anyone got experience of applying a PIT to a device when the wrong PIT has been previously applied?
Also has anyone got a current and valid PIT for the 32GB UK BTU MJ7 Firmware possibly?
Thanks

I'd already tried that PIT file but it looks like as it's prior to MJ7 it won't apply it....
So if someone could extract their PIT file from a MJ7 BTU phone and let me have it I'd be very grateful.

Hi @all
I extracted already a Pit file from Note 3 but PIT Magic give me errors, because the command I use is only to 16 GB.
See HERE my problem. I need new parameters bs, count and skip for 32 GB on this cmd:
On Terminal Emulator --> su -c 'dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/out.pit bs=8 count=481 skip=2176'

Heimdall will pull it w/o need for dd if you can go that way.
PS: I unknown the Heimdall !!!

If anyone of u guys are successfull with pulling out a pit file from mj6, mj7 BTU or later, pls upload it here.
Thx in advance.
In this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46178667#post46178667, he took control over his pc and note 3 to pull it out. Some1 could ask him nicely if he could do it again.

Thx for ur post ValenteL. I tried but no success. Flashing fails with odin. Maybe its because i have a demo unit?
@ Pinsb
Tell us if its working for u or not. Your device, is it a full Note 3 or also like mine a demo unit?
Before i screwed my pit partition i had the exact same problem as written in ur 1st post.
I flashed a lot of firmwares but every firmware showed me 16gb instead of 32gb.
Now i'm confused and dunno what to do next :S

Sorry I've been away for a couple of days.
Tried as suggested no success.
Mine is a proper unit (I didn't think there were demo units of the Note 3 yet?).
I'll do some more ideas tomorrow.

I have exactly the same problem ....
- shows 16 GB storage ( but only in Samsung task manager ) - dialer no work , rebooting after 30 sec ...etc
I fighting with it from October ...
- changing mamy roms
- using many pit files - even from my second n3.
- adb wotks but only from custom cwm.
I tried copy every mmcblk0 partition from my working note 3 to broken one ... still broken.
I REALLY HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO REPAIR IT......

[MOD] Custom Boot Screen (for Gingerbread ROM's)

Well I had been getting asked a lot lately about the GB ROM's and my original boot screen packages that I had created where I modified a param.lfs to contain no boot image and allowed a script to place whatever image you wanted in it's place for a custom boot logo. In the past I had edited the param.lfs for the AT&T i897 bootloaders which does not work with the GB boot loaders.
This is not the boot animation, nor the kernel logo, but the first logo your phone displays when it's turned on.
Anyhow, I re-wrote the param.lfs to allow a blank for the logo.jpg that Gingerbread calls upon in the bootloader and it works great. So for all of you that used my boot screen package in the past for i897, i9000 and t959 2.1, 2.2 and 2.2.1 ROM's, here it is again for 2.3+ ROM's.
This should also work fine for Vibrant but I will check in case any T959 people are scoping this out.
These will not be compatible with CM7 (due to the proprietary fs used on param.lfs)...
Big thanks to TRusselo for being a BETA tester, tossing in the latest ODIN package and writing the readme as well as contributing the JPEG's offered in the package. I decided to keep the Canadian boot screens for you northern neighbors on the Roger's network up there...
Donations are always welcome but not required, press THANKS, follow me on Twitter or like my cause on FaceBook.

Done, soft-bricked (Odin failed) but got back into DL mode and re-flashed. I've got the i896 logo up there now.
Thanks a lot!
yeah odin sometimes does that... the newer odin does that LESS.. lol.
i soft bricked a few times using this.
just keep forcing the params until it passes, no need to go back to stock!
with GB button combos, and the soft brick, i found:
Vol Down + USB = Download mode
Vol Down + Pwr = Soft brick screen.
hope that helps.
Just an fyi to anyone not familiar with it, but you will have to make sure you have your screen active when running the batch file so that you can click Allow to the superuser permission request when it attempts to mount the partition.
This wasn't noted in the readme, someone without much experience might miss it.
Just a question but why are there some screens with "AM HUNG" as the name and not Samsung?

When you soft bricked and reflashed did you have to do the whole rom or just this process in particular?

Yes the file is only 96kb and yes I named it correctly. and yes I have usb debugging on and no the phone isn't mounted. I am using mosaic 1. Any ideas?

Have you rebooted the PC? ADB is known to get stuck sometimes. Also retry the process but make sure to close all the adb.exe processes using task manager.

OK I restarted the comp and made sure their were no adb processes running and still your tool does not work it says killing all adb processes and then says adb is not recognized as an internal command. I know adb works because I used cmd:adb devices and it showed my phone. So what is the deal with this program? I am on 7 but I used run as administrator so it should work.

Thanks for the video of method 2 for downgrading for root access.
Just a note that I also wrote about here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20911517&postcount=38
Basically I had issues with recovery installing the unstable 3.0.1 with my Samsung 32gb Class 2 SD Card.
I found an old 2GB SD card and the recovery worked fine.
I've had rom issues with larger microSD cards on other devices, and I suspected correctly that going to a smaller card (<16GB) would allow the rom upgrade/downgrade to work properly.

how to modify about tablet?
First off thanks you for the great video! I did this step by step and rooted my iconia a501 with no issues.
My question is how do i get the model number in about tablet information from acer iconia a500 to acer iconia a501? and under baseband it says unknown?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Hi! Thanks for tutorial, but I have a problem.
After installing update.zip from first link, I am constantly getting message "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." And, have to FC it...
What can I do to fix this? And to try whole root process from start.
Thanks in advance.

Hi there.
I am having some issues with getting the recovery to boot up the update.zip (link 1)
It loads and then the ! in the yellow triangle inside the android comes up.
I have tried both a 32gb (class 10) and a 8gb (class 2).. (I also just tried another 8gb class 2... nothing)
I am holding the vol down + power on just like in your video.
Can you lend any assistance?

I am guessing that you renamed the file you downloaded to update.zip instead of unzipping it...
the link one file is a zip file and that will need to be unzipped again and you will get "update.zip"
Copy this to the external sd "mnt/external_sd/update.zip"
let me know if this helped

Hi I have been hunting for a tool to do a "complete" backup of my S3 so I can restore it in one go after playing with other ROMS and get back to Stock easily. So seeing this looked fantastic. I have run steps 1 , 4 and 10 .
The ROM i get is only 27,161 KB , and as the stock rom I flashed was over 1 gb I wonder if I have done something wrong and I am afraid to try flashing this with Odin . Especially when I did a NANDROID Backup from S3 Toolkit and this is 1.6gb .
Any advice would be well received .

You forgot step 5! configure tool, compile and install zlib and compile ext4_utils, and got empty image system.img...
is there a chance of a port to cygwin?
I like how the title says it supports any device and then the first post says it supports less than 10 devices.
Creating .tar.md5 will create images that increase binary counter ?
Edit:
Only with custom recovery

Hi and thx for a great tool
1. Any chance when I run 6. that it stops when it is mounted and I can edit/add content in the output.img before it creates a system.img?
Would be nice to be able to edit before system.img
2. Possible to edit a factory system.img that I have on pc?
Thx for your time

[Q] CX919 II Firmware

Hey guys,
Hopefully someone can help me...
Background: I bought this CX919 II, setup the device so that it displays in 1080p, install XBMC, and it only shows 720p. Do a bit of reading and find out that it's probably upscaling and there's a separate 1080p firmware, so of I go...
Problem: So I flash the stick with the steps below, everything seems to go okay, except when I plug the stick back into the tv, nothing happens... How do I get my device back?
1 ) Download Rockchip Batch Tool and extract
2 ) Put the USB cable into theOTG port of the CX919 II, hold the reset button and plug it into the pc.
3 ) Windows looks for driver, I send it to the correct location, it finds the drivers, no problem
4) Add SUPPORTLOWUSB=TRUE and FULLSPEEDUSB=TRUE to the config.ini file (otherwise it doesn't detect the device)
5 ) Start Rockchip Batch Tool v1.7. It finds the device and shows a green box
6) I select the 1080p firmware (which I got here)
7) Click on the restore button and wait patiently for the success message
8) Success message is displayed.
9) Unplug device, plug device into tv
10) Device has power, but tv tells me that there is no device connected.
So, where did I go wrong? And how can I fix the device?
I did manage to get some sign of life by using this firmware (I assume that this is the manufaturer), except all I see with this are just four flashing penguins in the top left corner.
Before it died, this is what the software info looked like..

Hi
I've got the exact same issue as you. After trying to root my CX919 CYX_809III V5_2 I ended up with no HDMI signal :crying:
After downloading (so fare) 10 different firmware, I've only got one of them to show 4 flashing penguins in the top left corner.
Hopefully your linked firmware in post #2 will work. Had difficulty getting the download page loaded, but it seems like I'm able to download now through South Korean VPN.
I guess the file contains only one .img file to be flashed as system file in Rom Flash Tool.
Do you mind telling me what ROM you used to get correct Loader, parameter, misc, kernel, boot and recovery files.
Regards mjolne

If you have any problems, let me know. I'll share it with you via simpler methods.
I didn't use anything special, just used batch tool (which I think is included in the zip) to flash the firmware file, and everything worked.
Stick working again

I have the same one.
Seems to work okay as far as I've seen. Haven't had any problems, although I haven't found many ROM's that actually work for me to compare it to

IMEI Null, Baseband/Modem unknown, missing files

Hello guys.
I am really tired of looking for a fix for my problem. I am asking for help rarely and today is that day that I need your fast help with fixing my phone.
So...
I wanted to create a backup of 2 partitions - modemst1 and modemst2.
I have used the command "reboot nvbackup" - phone restarted, but no files created in backup and restarted already without IMEI code, and then I realized that phone is not recognizing SIM card.
First thing I have thought of - okay, lets reflash this thing. That's what I did, never with a success. I have tried flashing the original Samsung software into my phone, no help.
Tried to enter to service mode to fix it - nope - just blank window with rows, probably because SIM is not recognized.
Full wipe? Didn't help. Busybox and GSII_Repair neither.
Then by browsing root stuff I found out that I am missing 2 files:
- /dev/block/mmcblk0p10
- /dev/block/mmcblk0p11
I think that might be a problem which needs to be fixed. (I have tried to backup those two files, with no success, and as it seems, I have probably deleted the accidentally)
I was thinking if someone can back those blocks up and send the images to me so I can somehow recover those two files (Lollipop)
I have no backup of EFS folder.
I have tried to flash the modem.bin from stock firmware, no luck, no fix.
So I am looking for help from you guys, you are my last hope to get that thing fixed.
Problems to fix:
No SIM detected
No GSM signal
Unknown Modem version
Null IMEI
Missing files in /dev/block folder
EDIT: I promise that I will create a guide if I will fix it. But I need to fix it by tomorrow.
It will be nice if somebody can make an image of working EFS partition of his/her Note 3 and send it to me. After that I will check out if it works.
Almost 100 views, and still no answer? Is it that bad?
You need download file PIT and flash fw

one more solution.
You need download firmware have 5 files. inside have file .pit and flash it using Odin. Step-by-step flash it. this is wrong/error partition EFS. or you need download file .pit for your device exp: .pit N9005 using only for N9005, you choose PIT location on odin. Remember you need tick to Re-Patition.
Good Luck!

Your stuff didn't help me at all, sorry. It was the same after these things which You told me. But I have fixed it and you can mark this thread as solved. I am currently writing a guide what to do to fix that stuff.
