AOSP based custom ROMs stuck at roaming data on my GT-I9505 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I apologise for posting this here but no-one's been able to help me with this in the ROM specific threads. I wonder if anyone else's had this problem?
My mobile data connection keeps on slipping into roaming on AOSP based ROMs (on stock it's perfectly fine). It connects normally half the time after a reboot (if it doesn't it starts at roaming), and after I turn wifi or airplane mode on and off it slips into roaming again. I have this problem with 90% of AOSP based ROMs (AOKP 4.3.1, the last stable CM 10.1.3 and CM11 port are in fact the only ones that don't have this problem). I have tried everything, and I mean everything, to get data to work normally. I've used different gapps, recoveries, earlier versions of ROMs, manually setting APNs, everything.
I refuse to believe my GT-I9505 is somehow special and ROMs don't work too well on it. Other people with GT-I9505s don't seem to have any problem with theirs.

Wifi Stuck w/Certain Roms.

Hi. I'm having wifi issues with my Nexus. It started after flashing MIUI. I was using TWRP to flash, it took a while for the google logo to disappear and to get to the Xiaomi bootlogo. After it finally booted, the wifi was stuck to "turning on", but never ultimately firing up(couldn't get it to turn on nor off, even having turning it off). I've also noticed that I have the same EXACT issue with CyanogenMod. I completely returned to stock, i've relocked the bootloader and everything. I tried CM installer today and i'm rooted again with CM, but still I have the same exact issues as before. I don't have these issues with some other roms such as stock, official Omnirom and such, i wouldn't think it would be exactly a hardware issue, since it works just fine with certain roms. Would anyone have an idea why my phone is having this issue? It wasn't always this way. Specifically, I haven't been having issues with 4.4 roms. Does anyone think it could be something related to bootloader, or something?

i have a similar problem... i rooted my nexus and flashed a custom rom (PACman) when it boots wifi is disabled, also bluetooth doesnt work neither any sounds, no music, no speaker, nothing, so i flashed Paranoid android (both based on 4.3) and i had the same problem
so then i flashed stock, everything ok, then CrDroid (based en 4.4) everything ok, then OmniRom (Based on 4.4) everything ok too...
i posted it here and got no replies, hope someone could help
Yes, right now I'm running an unofficial CM 11, and no issues. I wonder if something needs to be downgraded, in order for things to be okay again. I would still like the option to be able to run 4.2/4.3 based roms. Maybe I could try flashing to stock 4.2 or 4.3, then reroot, and test my results

What radio/baseband version are you using?
Hi, I'm using AOKP last nightly builds and since 2013-10-18 Wi-Fi started to stuck, settings ui errors and other problems. So I just tried franko kernel with official AOKP releases and Wi-Fi now is working fine. But i've faced skype problems). After 4 minutes it hangs and i need to restart my phone.

[Q] Unable to connect to mobile data

I finally got superuser working by flashing Echoe Illusion, the full touch-wiz version with Android 4.3. At first it seemed like I had everything working but the next day when I left the house (no longer connected to home wifi) I quickly realized it was refusing to connect to mobile data. I also cannot send text messages, and likewise I can assume I can't get them either. I have tried flashing the nightly CM11 build and 3G connected although LTE did not. I wasn't in an area where I expected reliable LTE anyway so that's not even an issue at this point because I'd very much like to use this Echoe Illusion rom, or another Touch-wiz based one. I just can't go downloading a bunch of them because I have a severe restriction on data usage and have already downloaded Echoe Illusion AND multiple other things. If it matters, my baseband ends in MJA.
I have also attempted to flash different modems with Odin, although all of them failed completely to flash at all and at this point I have to honestly admit I don't know what I'm doing. This is most definitely not my first time rooting...I'm just used to HTC phones, the Evos in particular. Thanks in advance if anyone can help or provide useful tips!
oh and P.S. I can't go back to the stock firmware because I must have flashed an incorrect kernel, and it borked the phone. I only got it working again by flashing a separate rom (Echoe Illusion) and have since flashed other kernels with no ill effect. I had a nandroid backup of the stock rom before I borked it, but every time I try restoring it, it stops at the yellow Sprint screen and won't boot.

[Q] Phone process not working

ive been messing around with a few ROMs after being displeased with HellFire (for my LS980), and in none of the roms ive flashed (CM11, Mahdi, Paranoid Android) have i been able to use the phone app, upon calling someone the screen goes black and eventually drops the process saying its not responding. I have full 3g and wifi available, and can text and browse the web, just the phone process itself does not work.
Ive tried a few different kernels and modems/radios (currently using ZV8) and nothing can remedy this in any ROM i flash. Am i missing something here that anyone can think of?
anyone at all?
phones kind of useless without being able to call people...
have you tried to install stock rom?

[Q] Best modem for AOSP/CM?

I have run a bunch of AOSP/AOKP variants and am currently on Nameless ROM and what I have noticed is that there is just no way to have a stable data connection or bluetooth connection.
I have checked out a few app store apps that reset the connection when data goes down, but they do not fix the problem. I lose data, and randomely get lte in places where stock it would always be on lte. I assume it is the modem, but I have tried NAE and am now on NG2. Is this a modem issue or is there another resolution? I have read some people experience these problems on CM roms and others don't. Not sure what causes it.

[Q] Dropping Calls

I have two VS980 phones that shipped to me stock with the 26a firmware. I have rooted both phones and have updated to the latest TWRP recovery. They both work as expected as long as leave them as they are. However, as soon as I install any custom ROM, they will both drop phones calls randomly.
I have tried almost every custom ROM available on this forum (Stock, CM, AOSP) and all of them will drop phones calls within a few minutes. I have also tried changing basebands and flashing my EFS backup without success. Data, Texting, Wifi, GPS everything works but no phone calls, even with full signal bars. As soon as I revert to stock, everything works like normal.
I have searched online and on the forums but I can't seem to find an answer to this. I am at a complete loss. I don't want to be stuck on the stock firmware forever. Does anyone have a suggestion?
