Hi Folks,
I've been enjoying my Nexus S but I've had a few problems so far and I wanted to see if they were singular problems or more widespread, so if you don't mind indulging me?
Signal - I've been having all manner of fluctuation with the signal. My Wife's Desire Z, which is also on Orange, is showing a far better reception in all areas, both indoors and out. I've even had a few total drop-outs, where I've had no signal at all, even though my old N900 and the Missus' phone are still showing at least 2 bars.
Wi-Fi - I've found the Wi-Fi signal to be awful. Again, other devices in the household are showing full bars yet the Nexus is showing 1. It's so bad that if I sit next to the router to get full signal, if I turn the device to face away I drop down to 1 or 2 bars. This isn't normal, surely?
Camera - Everything's blurry. Even the faintest hint of movement from a subject and the whole image is a mass of blur. Which is annoying to say the least.
App Issue - This is an extension of the signal problem really. When I go into a game, say, Angry Birds or Squibble, when I come out of the game I have no signal, and it doesn't come back for about 4-5 minutes.
What are your views?
Cheers and Merry Christmas,
I have none of the issues you seem to have. Might want to get it replaced

My only issue is my cell reception, but that's because T-Mobile sucks in my area.
Everything else is fine.
My WiFi signals do the same thing, but reception remains great. Are you actually losing connection speed or no? Because I checked and I'm not.
I don't have any of those issues. Only issue I have is that I still can't send picture messages to my friends on AT&T
Thanks for your responses people.
I don't think I'm losing speed with the wifi issue, l but I haven't checked if I'm honest (I've been up to my eyeballs in turkey ).

Wifi seems pretty strong here, no complaints at all. Have yet to put in a similar though so can't comment on cellular signal. Camera wise, I think its the norm... any movement with these sensors screws the picture totally. If you pics are blurred when the subject is stationary, worry.
I did a still pic side by side comparison and for some reason the nexus s was significantly more blurry than the nexus one, both shots same object sitting still. Prob just a software bug as the nexus s camera is very good in general.
For cellular signal, other people reported the same weak performance with the nexus s. My question is, do you actually compare the dBm or just the bars? Cause each company displays bars on a different range, so the only way really is to compare dBm vs dBm on each device.
There have been reports of weak signal and dropped data connection though.
past 2 days, I'm having an issue w/my nexus The screen won't tilt sideways when txt messaging, fb, watching youtube, etc.. The problem is temporary but a hindrance..also got a dead battery charger. I'm not the type to return stuff but might need to, I just love my nexus and the screen quality..hopefully the replacement won't have any screen issues like some ppl have complained.
I seem to have issues with my back button being no-where near as sensitive or responsive as the other buttons...anyone else?

I wondered about this too but I now think its just the way I'm hitting it as I'm nit used to it being where it is. Could that be it?
My wifi connection is poor as well depending on the type of router it seems

There are a slew of issues with Gingerbread, of which the most frustrating to me are: ringtone and other alarm tones will randomly change; new photographs will disappear in the gallery; sometimes typing is still laggy/unresponsive.
I reported the disappearing photos to Google here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13419 If anyone else is having this issue, please visit the link and star it to bring more attention to it.
In general, I'm disappointed these bugs exist.
With regards to Wifi, i found that the router was issuing 4 ip addresses to my phone via DHCP, and my phone was not getting good data streams, it kept cutting out. So i went to the router and set up static DHCP based on its mac address (you can set this up via LAN services on your router) This fixed my wifi problem
JD
I had the exact same issue with the back button. It was much less sensitive compared to the others and I had to click it quite hard to work. Its definitely a hardware mulfunction in a small percentage of phones. I ended up replacing the phone and now its fine.

Thanks for all the feedback people. It's been a great help. I've made a few changes so here's hoping I get some improvement.
If not it's going back to CPW!
Oh well, a day on and things still aren't improved.
Looks like its back to stock and back to the shop.
I'm wholly disappointed.
Just sent my Samsung Galaxy S3 back to T Mobile here in the UK
kept dropping signal on wi fi
totally rubbish sound on video recordings
didnt like the black background on main email section, you cant change it!
loved the screen size but colours look unnatural even when on lowest setting
no way in hell i was staying in a 24 month contract with a phone that isnt what i expected, very disappointing, the video audio was the main decider for me
i think i will wait until Samsung fix these problems, which knowing them will be about 12 months
Supercurio says he can fix the audio in video recording.
I have none of the other problems you list.
You probably should have held on til voodoo was released. Awkward....

WiFi has been great
I dont record videos so couldn't comment there.
Screen looks very realistic. You can set the mode, natural, Dynamic, Movie etc as you can with a Samsung LCD TV. Very configurable for all tastes. Sharp too.
Could the Wifi dropping be your router? Ive been impressed with Wifi thus far.
Impressed with the video recording too. If I wanted better I'd buy a HD Video camera.
Sound at the moment is below par but as has already been mentioned, it can be improved by the mighty powers of supercurio.

I understand why people are not happy with the video recorder sound. There is no point in pretending its not a problem by comparing it to a 4k HDR camera. If they can do 1080p 30fps you'd think the sound would be at least on par with the visuals.
Fact is the SGS2 had much better sound and so too does the iPhone. Samsung have achieved better in the past and its disappointing to take a step back in the area.
Again with the whinges about the sound. Its a software problem. It will be fixed eventually.

What's the problem with the sound??? I did a video at a bbq at the weekend and the sound is excellent.
On second thought, don't tell me, as it will have me looking for little green men in my usb port next...

Running Franco's kernel with sound improvements I have no audio issues at all.

I've definitely noticed a decrease in service compared to my previous phones, especially the T-Mobile Galaxy SIII. I'm not sure if its poor Radio firmware, or the materials, but it's a noticeable drop. Using a signal booster in my house, I used to get full bars in my bathroom just two rooms away on the GSIII. The Nexus 4 barely gets 1.
Anyone else having issues, and does anyone know if newer radio firmware will be released soon?
feels the same for me, if not better than my galaxy nexus.

I can't really compare how my reception is with my nexus since I am on a new provider, but I did notice something odd with how many bars I have. I assume there is some kind of battery saving function because when I am not really using data I will see 3G, as soon as I use data though it will switch to H. But what I noticed is when I am on 3G I will have like 2 bars service, but when the phone switches over to H I have full or close to it..
Maybe thats normal just thought it was odd?

Normal. Saves data. That's how T-mobile does it. Not sure about the bar part, unless it's switching towers for some reason? Ha.

I seem to be having the same reception problem the iPhone 4 had, namely that when I hold the phone, I lose reception.
Flat on desk: -82dBm
Fingers on either side of phone, still flat on desk: -99dBm.
Is anyone else getting the same phenomenon or is it just me? I wanna do a replacement if it's just me, but if it's something that everyone is experiencing, then I'll live with it.
I notice 2 things, 1) in general the reception is lower (4bars with my sensation/hd2 = 3bars on my n4) but I haven't done any real testing so it could be the bars are incorrect 2) big death grip problem, as soon as I grab the phone the reception drops and can cause a call to drop
For the most part I get good reception but yeah in certain parts of the house the phone is unusable.
I wonder if a simple bumper fix will do

Keep in mind that bars mean nothing. Check the dBm / asu, the lower the better. Over ~110 things get dicey/unusable.
When I had my N4 on AT&T, it got better reception than my Capitvate and Atrix 2. I'm on T-Mobile now, and I'm still experimenting.

I have a tpu case on mine and it hasn't made a difference, actually the thing that works for me is switching to 2G + wifi when I'm home and of course 3G when out and about, I just wish nfc task launcher or tasker could access that "toggle" on the stock rom.
Hi
Different phone different reception patterns. No two phones will be exactly the same in terms of their signal strength, you might find an improvement compared to a previous phone, you might find it is worse, most will see no difference and it's very dependant on environment. I've seen no difference personally. Given some time and feedback from various carriers can improve things with radio updates, such as the phone being more or less aggressive in switching between cells, or protocol fixes that help prevent drop outs during higher error rates when the signal is lower and cleaner/quicker hand-off to adjacent cells.
It should be noted the main antenna is at the bottom of the phone like most mobiles these days, so holding it at the bottom cupped in the palm of your hand will see the signal reduce and battery consumption increase as it tries to transmit through flesh. There are diversity antennas towards the top of the phone, but these are for reception only and do not transmit.
A bumper is unlikely to help unless it was extremely large to make the distance between a hand and the antenna several inches! The iPhone was a different issue, it was because the antennas were not insulated and were being de-tuned and shorted by being touched when the phone was held.
Regards
Phil
So im a S4 user for 4 months so far so good i was satisfied with the phone, now im thinking of getting a note 3 (9005) i like the design and the bigger screen and s-pen.What should i look before buying a note 3 what are the biggest flaws of this phone i mean factory defects?
Home Button feel loose or crooked..
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
Crooked home button.
Do you play a lot of games on your phone ?
Will you root/flash roms and kernels ?
Some minor things I hated about the phone upon using it (Doesn't bother me know or I've found a way around it ) - Also to "note" i came from a note 2 - Pun intended.
a) Loudspeaker isn't as loud as the note 2, its placement is a pain in the backside when playing games too ( sometimes your hand can block it )
- Fix - Spigen cases seem to fix this issue as when you block the port with your hands inside the case, the speaker itself isnt blocked so it finds other ways out
2nd fix - Flashing another Rom you can install Viper sound mod, this massively increases the phones volume and quality of sound ( headphones, Bluetooth included )
b) The crooked Home button - I returned my 1st one, 2nd one was barely noticeable
fix - Ive learned to deal with it, people say that the black ones are less prone to this ?
c) Knox warranty ect - but you are most likely aware of all this as youre coming from a S4
fix- screw the flag, tripped it anyway and enjoyed my phone
d) The DPI was like a toy Fisher Price My first Phone !
Fix- Rooted and changed to 330 dpi...ah thats better.
I think thats it ...otherwise its the best phone Ive ever had !
Also forgot one thing that is constantly circulating through my mind is can the s pen from constant use damage the screen and can i use the s pen with a screen protector?Maybe a stupid question with damaging the screen with the s pen as it is made for the device but i read a few posts about that on gsm arena and i owned every S but this will bi my first Note.
Also to answer @Ry2mkk
I play a lot of games most of them very graphic intense
I flash roms but not right away when i buy a device mostly after a month or two when i get bored with the stock rom .
a) As for the loudspeaker is it at least as on the s4 im not using my speaker for anything related multimedia a few songs somtimes but mostly i use my beats headphones.
b) I will be carefull when buying the phone to avoid the croocked home button, also getting the black hate the look of the white version.
c) anyway i dont care about knox and warranty
d) DPI not a bigg problem for me

Hi Wonderful People at xdadevelopers,
I'm puzzled on how my new Axon 7's wifi, data, and GPS performance lags behind my Samsung Galaxy S3, which was released 4 years ago. I got this phone thinking that it would be an overall upgrade from my S3 but instead I'm left with a device that is slower in performance in terms of GPS accuracy and online speed. (Both data and wifi connection are slower). Is this something that ZTE can improve/fix with software updates/tweaks or it is bad positions/sub-par hardware? Any inputs on this is greatly appreciate it, thank you!
What model do you have? My A2017U was alright on B20, and the B27 made it even better

I had a look at your profile and noticed you were on T-Mobile in the United States. Where are you located (Southern California, Texas, etc). If you are with T-Mobile do you have the T-Mobile binge-on feature enabled or disabled? I'm a prepaid T-Mobile customer with two Axon 7's in Southern California and before I disabled Binge-on (T-Mobile's YouTube buffering) I suffered with DATA performance. Now I have no issues at all with DATA or GPS (I use Waze and Google Maps every day for about 2 hours in the car). I'm not sure whether this would affect GPS but I have a feeling it might. Either way I'd try disabling Binge-on (can be done through the T-Mobile app under services | opt out) and see if that helps.
If that doesn't solve the issue I would recommend
1. Going through your APN settings and making sure they match up with T-Mobile's recommended settings
2. Making sure that Google has all the permissions it needs to access your location. Go and check your APP Settings and make sure nothing location based is disabled.
3. Resetting your phone.
If that seems like too much hassle just exchange it for a new one and if you have the same problems with it get another phone (Oneplus etc).
Hi All,
I have the A2017U B27 and yes, I'm on T-Mobile and currently located in Nor Cal. Will try out the recommendations and see if there are any improvements. Thank you very much!

I think there is. I saw pictures taken with Isocells on par with Sony's IMX sensors. It's all about how good the devs (ZTE) code the Camera software.
I agree that in low light conditions the "snap and shoot" can do better. I was able to take good low light conditions pictures in manuel mode.
What we as users need to do is to keep contacting ZTE and state that we want those improvements. Especially in the early month's of release. Because after a year or so. Their dev team will be focused on the next ZTE Flagship and the Axon 7 will be almost forgotten in term of Software updates.
But that's what we paid for a 400$ Chinese Flagship.
after long time spending time with the zte support in germany my a7 still can´t connect to wifi. (B03) also its not possilbe to use LTE with this phone. (soundcloud or youtube most time stuck...), i think i will return it this week and wait for the V20 oder zenfone 3 deluxe....
I saw your same post over on the ZTE forums under the mrfobber username, so I'll just copypasta my response:
The thing is, other people disagree with you (myself included). I realize that you're not the only one claiming that WiFi and cell service is "bad", but it doesn't seem to be universally true.
Obviously some devices are going to be better than others. Hardware, software, and overall design play a role in this. But some comparative tests show no issue with my phone in my area. I get identical cellular reception with my G3, Zenfone 2 Laser, and the Axon 7. I get slightly better WiFi throughput and signal strength with the A7 over the other two, all of which are maxing out my 50Mbps service.
I'm wondering if there's a QC issue here, or if it's just very much dependent on where you live. I mean, where you live obviously plays a role in what your service is like, but it does seem strange to get wildly different performance from two phones under identical circumstances.
I haven't tested the GPS, specifically, just using Google Maps and it's been fine. What sort of test are you doing to compare the two? Cold-start fix times? Number of satellites? What app are you using?

The only issue I have is that it doesn't roam between those to cells seamlessly.
